Prior to the appointment, she was asked about medical insurance, which caused confusion, as this was an annual routine eye appointment. I called the office seeking clarification, but Dylan could not adequately explain why the visit was billed as medical. I was told the office manager, Chrissy, would call my wife the next day, but no call was made. When I followed up that afternoon, Chrissy stated, "I had no intention of calling or apologizing because I was too busy doing other things and credentialling another doctor." Chrissy had time to listen to the recordings of my wife making the initial appointment and my conversation with Dylan, talk to the front desk staff, talk to the examining Optometrist, and review the billing for the visit, all prior to our phone conversation. During our conversation, Chrissy fabricated that my wife "came in concerned about her cataracts and eyelids." This is flatly untrue. Rather than addressing our concerns, she focused on my tone and accused me of being rude and condescending. She also minimized our concerns by stating that, "the medical portion would likely be covered and that we would not receive a bill." We have still not received a clear explanation as to why a routine vision exam became a medical exam. During the exam, the doctor confirmed my wife's existing cataracts were unchanged and briefly discussed drooping eyelids, which my wife declined to pursue treatment for. At no point was she informed that the exam was being converted to a medical visit. My wife has been a patient at Cascade Eye for years, and her cataracts previously documented during routine exams, without the visits being billed medically. We feel it was disingenuous that she was not informed of the change in billing status and was asked by receptionist Kathy to sign treatment consent forms after the exam. My wife has since called the office and requested an itemized bill from Dylan. The staff's poor communication, inability to answer billing questions, and dismissive response to our concerns caused unnecessary confusion and stress. Instead of receiving an explanation or apology, we encountered contentiousness and contradictory information, including statements that previous visits were not billed medically because a prior doctor had "shoddy paperwork.". We invite the clinic owner to listen to the conversations I had with his staff on August 11th & 12th. In particular, the office manager completely failed to represent Cascade Eye in a professional manner, and instead deflected blame onto the front desk staff, previous doctors, my wife, and myself. This was an awful patient & family experience filled with unclear, dishonest staff communication and misleading billing. My Wife also needed her prescription checked but she also needed to try out some contact lenses. The staff here is amazing. Very friendly and helpful. We were able to pay for my Wife's Trial Contact Lenses contactless. Awesome. Less than a week later, My Wife's Contacts came in and she was able to make an appointment for the next day to check them out. The Dr was super friendly and made my Wife feel at ease. She even mentioned possibly putting in a application. I'm glad we found a great optometrist so close to my home. My Wife couldn't be happier.

However, it is always the crisis that shows the true character of a person or business, and this was true for me. I awoke with changes in vision that were concerning enough that I called them to ask if my upcoming medical eye exam should be moved forward or if I ought to be concerned. I was asked to come in for an immediate exam in 2 hours. This is the busy time of year for Foster vision, with everyone trying to use their insurance before the year runs out, but they got me in and tested my eyes in ways I had never experienced before. They fit me in, amongst all the hustle and bustle, because it was an emergency. And, when they were concerned about the results, they called an eye surgeon for me and I had an appointment there on Tuesday. In other words, they took a medical concern seriously, made space for me in a day crowded with others, advocated for me with another provider, and generally made sure I was okay. And, in the end, that is what I want from Foster Vision. When it really counted, 5 stars.

When the receptionist brought it up, I asked if it cost extra; she said yes, and then told her I wasn't interested. You'd think it would end there. After Dr. Breeden finished the main portion of the exam, she made it a point to get up, close the door, and lecture me about the importance of dilation, imploring scare tactics, and comparing it to having vitals checked. This was just insulting. It's my health, and it's my money, and I have the right to opt out. I'd like to think that professionals could take a hint that money is clearly an issue for me without me having to say HEY, I'M FUCKING BROKE, I'M JUST HERE TO GET A PRESCRIPTION SO I CAN BUY CONTACT LENSES. The icing on the cake was not being given (or emailed) my new prescription at the end of the visit. After I emailed them asking for it, there was another little passive aggressive cherry on top -- part of my prescription was left blank, and I had to dig up my old prescription to find the number (the BC, or base curve, which is either 8.4 or 8.8 when ordering contacts online). The experience has always been…read moregreat: eye exams were quick and informative, front desk employees were always helpful and attentive. However this year's annual visit was anything but. It may be due to the change of ownership (I believe it happened either late last year or this year), but my experience with the front desk employee (Sam) was not great. Per usual, the exam was quick, the new doctor was nice and informative, and the other front desk employee (male with glasses) was extremely attentive and helpful. The issue came about a few days after my exam when I decided to use my annual frame allowance for sunglasses (I've had LASIK correction for a few years now). I called the office, Sam answered and I explained what I wanted to do - I've been utilizing this allowance for years. Sam looked up my insurance and asked if it was for prescription glasses. I said, "no, non-prescription". She then quickly told me that I couldn't use my insurance allowance for that purpose. I asked if the insurance had changed in the last year because I've been doing this for years. She said no, it's always been like that and that there's nothing they could do. After letting her know to double check the clauses of the allowance, she checked and noticed that clients with lasik procedures are allowed to use their insurance for sunglasses. She didn't apologize for initially providing me with incorrect information, she just went on and asked what frames I wanted. I told her the model and she noted they don't carry those. I thought I had gotten the same brand from them the year before and said "but I got them last year from you". Quicker than lighting she had already pulled up my prior orders to correct me: no I had not ordered that brand with them! She seemed annoyed that I was even asking. She proceeded to tell me that if I wanted that brand I would have to go elsewhere and referred me to a competitor. She didn't give me options to go online and use a prescription to order them myself, or anything else. I asked for my prescriptions (mine and my husband's) and headed to their competitor. Blessing in disguise - the front desk employee at this new place was a delight, the optician helped us get the sunglasses we needed without much hassle and we proceeded to schedule our 2026 annual eye check with them. This experience may not be representative of the entire practice, but it shows you that customer retention is just about being nice and patient with your clients.
