However another two weeks have passed and I still do not have my new glasses (after a "rush" was put on it) and I am still stuck wearing my computer glasses. She is the most talented optometrist I have ever consulted with. She can give you advice on your general well being, just by examining your eyes. No one has ever done that with me, until her! She has given me better advice than any ophthalmologist I have consulted in the past! All of my family members and I have been patients of Dr. Nina Christensen for many years. We live closer to the Grafton Costco but when she moved to Pewaukee, we moved our files with her practice. She is as caring as she is talented and certainly, is worth the extra long drive to Pewaukee. Here is one example: I had dry eye problem - especially in winter months. I went to see two Ophthalmologists. One of them was considered to be a leading Ophthalmologist in town. Both of them told me to use artificial tears, daily. They both told me, I got it because I look at the computer too much, with insufficient blinking.. and I am thinking - "Duh! Blinking is subconscious! What am I to do.. remind my eyes to blink more often?". They were explaining the problem and not the solution! When I went to see Dr. Christensen for an eye exam, I mentioned my dry eyes problem to her casually, as a part of patient history. Immediately, she said - just drink a lot of water and you won't need the eye drops.. She was absolutely right.. I no longer need eye drops! Dr. Christen is so very talented that she is the only doctor who explained to me that she can notice indications of high blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes, while examining the eye! She explained that people with high blood pressure will have pronounced capillary veins. She is the most talented Ophthalmologist that I have ever met! Once you meet her, immediately, you will see that she is genuinely interested in your well being. She charges only $60 for eye glass exam.. In the past I had paid $200 for a ophthalmologist for an eye exam and he was no where as good as Dr. Chritensen! If you are older than 50, I would encourage you to go with a designated driver and plan for 2 hours of time, so that she can dilate your eyes (1 hour for dilation) and give you a thorough exam! It would be well worth the effort.

I liked the small, local shop feel, but I found there to be some lack of professionalism as they talked among themselves and there were even dogs allowed in the office. In my opinion that's just weird for a doctor's office unless it's a service dog. I wore a mask despite being vaccinated because that's my preference and I knew getting my eye exam and trying on glasses would require me to be up close with the doctor and techs. I was told "you don't have to wear that." It just felt unnecessary. The hallway down to the actual doctor's office was a bit untidy and then the doctor's office was pretty worn looking too. The lenses they had me look through to test my vision had some damage to them that couldn't be easily wiped off, and this made it hard for me to tell if I was getting an accurate vision test. I liked the doctor for the most part but she casually mentioned that due to my astigmatism, I have a significantly higher chance of retinol detachment, which I hadn't known and her casual tone was a bit alarming. When I tried to ask more questions I felt a little dismissed and she basically just said "don't worry about it because worrying doesn't help." I would have rather known more about the science behind her statement and it would have been nice to be given some resources. I don't think Bronze is the place for me but it does beat the long wait time at LensCrafters. I also like the idea because it's a small practice you can get to know the doctor rather than just seeing someone random like at Lenscrafters. I'll be on the lookout for a new eye doctor that accepts my insurance.
