Dr Glazer has been my eye Dr. for years. The ease of making appointments and the evening hours are a real plus. Visionworks has always accepted my insurance, even though my insurance companies have changed a few times over the years. I purchased glasses from here about 2-3 years ago. I went back once to get them fixed and the guy RUINED the frame. I cannot wear my glasses now without getting dizzy and the glass rubs against my right eye/eyelash. Every single time I went back to fix it, no avail. I haven't been able to wear those glasses since. I went to get them fixed today again, and nothing. The lens is terrible and the frame fits oddly. I am sick of going back and forth. I have been meaning to write this for 2 months. THE GOOD Dr. Glazer is the only good thing you write about in regards to the Totowa Visionworks. He is such a great man who has a great rapport with patients. He ensures you that you leave feeling knowledgeable about your vision. He takes time to thoroughly explain everything in detail and uses his wonderful touch of personalty to give you an amazing experience. GREAT MAN, DOCTOR, AND OVERALL PERSON. THE BAD I will try to keep this short and to the point. Customer service at this place is an absolute joke. The staff in general are rude and downright mean individuals. For instance, a man who spoke broken English was helping me with a pair of glasses. I found one I really like and he began to make fun of the way they looked on my face. I wont get into the specifics of what he said, but I can tell you that it was very immature of him to comment the way he did. The same man also decided to use sarcasm when I left as he said "I GUESS I WILL PUT BACK YOUR GLASSES CHEAPSKATE". This was after he continued to harass me with immature comments, as well as lying to me saying "well I met with the Dr. and he said you must have these....". I felt rushed thru out my entire experience that I wouldn't recommend this chain store but would stick to a private practice... Unfortunately my rating is low compared to my rating 6 months ago. I am baffled as to how quickly the customer service has changed within a few months. The employees weren't friendly. Everyone looked as though they would much rather be somewhere else. I asked for a pair of lightweight glasses and the employee told me I don't know you would have to try them while she stay seated. I would have purchased another pair of glasses if she had only provided quality customer service. They yelled across the room my method of payment. Truly disappointing. My two children and I had our eye exams on 8/23/2019. From the time of signing in until we saw the Dr. it was great. Very helpful staff and very patient with my five year old son. Fortunately, both kids did not need glasses. I finally needed glasses for distance. Visionworks also accepted my insurance plan which saved us a lot of money. I ended up picking out some great frames. I picked up my new glasses yesterday and I am very happy. Next summer we will return here for our annual eye exams. read more

I don't about other's people experiences, even though I saw the bad reviews I decided on giving this place a chance. I went for a routine eye exam and for contact lenses. The optometrist Dr. Glazer was kind, and funny, it was a pleasant experience. I felt confident that I got the best care when it came to my checkup and my eyes of course. The staff was then helpful in helping me choose glasses. I went in there for contacts, and came out with a pair of new glasses since they had the promotion buy one get one half off. I would say give the place a try. If you are in a rush then don't because it does take time to get the eye exam since it is several parts to it. read more

As I spoke to one of the only professional employees about something I didn't understand with the payment, Nicole, the extremely rude woman behind the counter proceeded to scream at me and humiliate me in front of everyone in the office. The staff are very unprofessional when you call - as you are asking questions they are laughing and talking to whoever is in the background or they act like you are bothering them and are very rude. I went for an eye exam with my daughter and was there over 3 hours. The majority of the 3 hours we were waiting for the appointment and then we were told she had to come back to pick up the trial pair of contacts and then come back again before they would dispense her supply - I have never experienced this before, she has been wearing contacts for 6 years and has a simple lens RX. The same thing happened to me, where is your inventory of trial lenses?? Calling to re-order contacts is a joy as you are told someone will call you back to get the information - never happened. I finally got to order them after 3 attempts to get someone to take my order. I will be ordering my contacts online from now on, easier and less aggravating. This store needs reorganizing with people who know what they are doing and who have a better people skills. If you don't want to talk to customers don't work in a store. read more

The ONLY reason for TWO stars is the older guy eye doctor was super nice and answered all of my questions thoroughly. Everyone else was so unbelievably rude. They treat you as though you are in their way and wasting their time. I'm sitting in the middle island waiting to pay and three employees are finishing up a personal chat. Only when another customer who had also been waiting at the middle island got up and interrupted said conversation did the congregation disperse and I was able to pay and leave. This is only ONE example. Something similar to this or equally rude and unnecessary happens each time I have to get my exam. I used to go to the Pompton Plains location because of insurance but they, too, were the WORST. So because of insurance I tried the Totowa location. What is the hiring requirements for the staff?! I recently visited the Visionworks in Totowa.NJ for a routine eye exam and eye glass purchase. Every staff member I encountered was extremely helpful and engaged in their jobs. I had new insurance and wasn't sure how difficult it may be to verify. Rad was easy to understand as he explained my choices. My doctor was awesome too! Jay, one of the associates, was very kind and helped me pick a very nice set of glasses. If I could give 0 stars I would. The absolute worst experience of my life. I had a 6pm appointment and the gentlemen before me was 20 minutes late for his appointment which pushed everyone back. There was no time to dilate my eyes because of the delay. The staff was no friendly AT all! The gentlemen assisting me pick of frames wasn't listening to what I was saying. I just settled for a pair of frames that I wasn't in love with. They closed at 7pm and I just felt so rushed out by the staff. Then when I go to pick up my glasses the girl that heated the frames to shape them to my face scratched the frames terribly. I'm not usually one to complain but I spent $300 out of pocket - my insurance covered the rest. So they made quite a bit of money for 1 pair of glasses and eye exam. I called the 1800 # and the general manager called me and instructed me to go to the Bloomfield location...which was just as bad. Don't go to ANY vision works. I'm extremely disappointed. read more

Ruined my glasses.. took 3 months just to destroy frames and $600 lenses.. offered free Cheap frames to replace my designer frames they ruined..glasses were blurry and fit the bent frames poorly after 3 months of waiting.. had a second exam for contacts.. totally different prescription.. this is the absolute worst establishment I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with.. never again.. Recently, my husband and I went to VW for glasses. We have our own eye doctor elsewhere, and use VW just for materials as it's covered by our insurance. We had a young gentleman help us and showed us lots of frames. Besides him putting away frames that we didn't like, causing us to pick the same ones time and time again, he was pleasant. However he spent more time looking at his phone down under the desk than he did helping us. It got to the point where I had to ask him if maybe someone else should help us. Then when we return to pick up said glasses, we went on a Saturday and the website indicated that they closed at 4:30. Getting a text as we exited our car, I saw it was 4:04. Thinking we had plenty of time, I come to find the door is locked. We looked to make sure we had the right place, and weren't maybe one door off and we weren't. Now there were employees and customers in there. Finally a woman comes over and drills me in the doorway. She unlocks the door and opens it (isn't this a fire hazard?!) and asks "Me can I help you?" I reply with "Yes, you're open until 4:30 right?" And she replied with vague run around answers. She then continues to ask me "How can I help you?" and I reply with "We're here to pick up our glasses." As she allows us in, another coworker behind the desk mentions how she thinks it 4:00 when the store closes. Now I'm sorry, but how do you not know what time it closes. YOU WORK THERE! So the same woman (unfortunately) helps us and brings my husband his glasses. That was the least irritating part of this trip amazingly. As we walk out, the sign on the window clearly states that on Saturday's they are open until 4:30. This frustrates me so much. One...it's business, take it! Two...what happened to good ole customer service?! And lastly and most important...WHY WERE THE DOORS LOCKED WITH CUSTOMERS STILL IN THERE?! CHILDREN INCLUDED!! Such lazy employees locking the door early so they can get off work when the store actually closes. Shame on you. Take pride in your job, no matter what it is. In all my years going to VisionWorks, I have never had a bad experience until now. Called up to order my 6 month supply of contacts; 2 weeks later I had to follow up; apparently they were sitting in the office and was told they would overnight them. Great! I received them overnight, but after using the new lenses a couple of days, I felt my vision wasn't as it should be. Called them back to learn they sent the wrong lenses; when I receive the correct contacts, I am to ship back the wrong ones in the bubble pack provided...ok. More time has passed; I called again on Tuesday and was assured I'd have them Wed/Thurs the latest...umm, today is Friday. We went to Visionworks to order my daughter a pair of glasses before she left for a semester abroad. They came in about a week before she left; unfortunately, an honest mistake required another set of lenses. After discussions on how this could be rectified, Visionworks both gave me a partial credit due to the mistake, as well as overnighted the glasses to my daughter in London. Terrible experience. Contact lenses were fit wrong 8 months ago and I have gotten multiple corneal abrasions. Not until I went to another doctors office recently was I told that the contact lenses were fit wrong and were the cause of my abrasions. First, let me say that I've been coming here since 1979 since when it used to be the good ol' EYE Dr and I used to live in the area. What's kept me coming back all these years is Dr. Glazer. I have a Visionworks about a mile from me but I choose to drive to this one in Totowa every other year for the mandatory eye exam (to get more contacts) because of Dr. Glazer. During my last visit last Saturday, 11/4, I was pleased with the customer service of the staff, especially the manager, Levon M. They were attentive, helpful, and nice. This is what people look for that helps a business stand out from the rest and prompt people to come back year after year. They did a price match online search for me, saving me a lot of money, which is awesome. Yesterday, I received a call from Levon saying that he received my contacts, and would ship them to me free of charge, since they didn't go to the local Visionworks by me for me to pick up. The speed in which I'm going to receive the contacts is much faster than when they used to be the Eye Dr. The location is much nicer and newer, with a supply of glasses about 3x bigger than when it was the Eye Dr. read more
