This is so disappointing. I really had high hopes because we booked our anniversary dinner here since we're staying at the Chateau. I specifically requested a waterfront view but we ended up getting seated in the bar area in a tight little corner. We did have a window...towards the street. It was probably the worst place we could've been seated and I called in twice about getting a good view. The chips as an app tasted strange and we weren't a fan. We ended up splitting the ahi tuna since nothing else on the menu looked that great and everything was overpriced. When I asked if I could add a risotto on the side, the waiter said it would be $20 CAD for a side....(??????!) what the Wolfgang Puck is going on??!! I will say though that the ahi tuna had an excellent presentation. The hoisin sauce was a bit overpowering and doesn't blend well with the cauliflower puree. For the ahi tuna dish alone, I'd give it a 4.5. The matcha cheesecake dessert was a 1.5. Strangest thing I've ever tasted and it did NOT taste like matcha at all.... Nor did it taste like cheesecake. Overall, I probably would only come back here for the ahi tuna if I was really craving it. But service was slow, despite tables being empty in the restaurant. For such a high class restaurant, I felt so disappointed. Presentation was great. Everything looked wonderfully plated. The kitchen did a great job splitting our entree but if I hadn't eaten right before it definitely wouldn't have been filling and the prices I believe are beyond reasonable. I'm sorry Vista 18.... Breakfast/brunch Summary: Stars for the service and view. Food however leaves a lot to be desired and was not satisfactory. Called and the lady was super nice and accommodating. When we arrived we were asked right away if we had any reservations. They accommodated us but said we couldn't stay long because there was another reso after us for that table (which worked out perfectly because we were in a rush.) So reservation is highly recommended. Everyone we encountered seemed genuinely nice & our server (she was an Asian lady) was all smiles. Breakfast prices were decent for the atmosphere and view but sadly lacked flavor and none wow'ed us. The potatoes though I was grateful were not greasy, however were way too dry. Though my 10 year old daughter did enjoy her kids waffles and scrambled eggs. Big difference in quality and flavor when we ate at Frankie's Modern Diner the next morning. Frankie's does not have the view but the food was delicious. I suggest maybe going here for lunch or dinner instead. read more

The view and dining room here are quite nice and the staff were all friendly and accommodating. Brunch however left a lot to be desired. Our order took almost 40 mins to come out. When we received the eggs Benny the gravy poured over the dish was room temp at best on top of barely luke warm beef and prawns on top of a rather dry, dense biscuit. Was almost like the Benny's were left on the side for a while as the potatoes caught up. Sounded delicious on the menu, but in reality not so much. The kids pancakes was great value and a hearty kids meal while the adult pancakes were a stack of 5 with fruits all good sized. The restaurant did take a percent off after being made aware of the issue. Between having to wait again and restless kids, sending it back for a better one wasn't really an option at this point. Visited here on a Saturday evening and was looking forward to the gorgeous views and nice dining experience. In short, you're definitely paying for ambiance over quality. The food isn't bad, but it's well overpriced for the average quality. Our favorite part of the meal was actually the charcuterie board, as we found for $20 it was a pretty good steal. None of our restaurant searches really even mentioned this place. Thank goodness our Gorge Tour captain did! It's on the 18th floor of a hotel and has spectacular views of the city. We were seated promptly with at a window seat with a view of the straits. We hadn't eaten since breakfast, so we were pretty hungry. My husband had the raw oysters. They were honey/mustard/lemony broth with what looked like caviar, but I believe were tomato based. He ordered 4 as an appetizer...then ordered two more. I started with their green salad with a champagne vinaigrette. It had foraged veg like purslane. It was so refreshing! For our main course my husband had their maple glazed roast beef sliders. The buns were well toasted and fresh tomato and plenty of lettuce. The buns gave it a nice crunch. I had the mussels in a tomato chili broth. It was an appetizer, but pretty small just the same (only 7) but a couple of them were pretty big and the broth was tasty. Since we dined on appetizers we liked luckily had room for dessert. My husband had scoop of their bourbon vanilla ice cream and I had their peach bourbon crème brûlée with cotton candy garnish. Husband said his ice cream tasted mostly vanilla. My crème brûlée was mouth watering and, I'm a cotton candy fan, so that little treat at the end was the perfect ending. Staff was attentive, food was really good and unique, and view can't be beat. Our family went there March 5 2025 for a birthday dinner for my daughter; started off well with good happy hour appetizers, miso chicken wings, calamari, mussels.....then it went downhill quickly from there my son's steak was cooked well done and he asked for rare, root vegetables were undercooked; his girlfriend and I ordered scallops, they were off (could smell the fishiness), and well over seasoned made both of us sick. My daughter's chicken was a very small portion and was very poorly cooked. My wife and my daughter's boyfriend had lamb which was actually decent but slightly overcooked. Peter was our server. This is a very nice restaurant. Service was nothing less than superb. Entire wait staff was great. Peter on the other hand was the perfect professional. We had two appetizers, the cheese charcuterie and the Octopus. Both were good, the Charcuterie was odd but I think that was just me. For dinner my daughter had the pork loin with noodles very good she couldn't eat it all. Both my wife and I had the Sole, I skipped the salad under it, they gave me beans and fingerling potatoes. The first visit to Vista 18 was incredible! The food was great and the service was even better than that. We were there for date night and we were sat next to a table with loud kids running around. Without us even saying anything, the server asked if we'd like to move to a different table that had opened up with a better view. For food, we had the Vista 18 Greens, ahi tuna, and the steak. All were excellent! We ordered a second bottle of the wine we really enjoy and the server let us know that it was their last bottle in case we were planning to order another afterward. We were already making plans to return and wanted that wine, so she suggested we call ahead before returning because shipping times are wonky during covid. We said we would. Fast forward about 6 weeks and we really wanted to return to Vista 18. As the server suggested, I called the restaurant explaining that we wanted to make a reservation, but only if Pergolo was back in stock because I know they ran out last time we were there. She put me on hold and, after a couple minutes, told me that they do have it. Perfect! We arrived and were seated in a much less impressive section than our first trip, but they say right up front that they can't guarantee tables when you reserve. Fine. The server comes over and he asks for our drink order. We order a bottle of Pergolo after laughing with him about how crazy we are that we called ahead to make sure they had our wine prior to coming. He seemed confused about which wine we were referring to, so we pointed to it on the menu. He returned to the table a few minutes later with glasses and a bottle that didn't look right and it almost looked as if he purposefully turned the label away from us as he began opening the bottle. (And I'm pretty sure every server knows to show the customer the bottle and label prior to opening a bottle of wine.) We asked to see the label before he opened the bottle and instead of telling us "Here's Pergolo" or "We don't have it," he said "We reserve the right to change bottles when we're out of stock." It was Mionetto, which both of us don't like. We didn't care for the other bottles on the menu at that time and said we needed to talk since we weren't sure what we were going to do and that we may just leave. He said "Ok" and walked away never to be seen or heard from again. If our second experience had been like our first, this would be an easy 5 stars. However, we haven't been back since our last experience with no plans to return. read more

An absolutely wonderful experience by all measures! We made a late reservation for a fairly large party (7) on short notice and they couldn't have been more accommodating. We were seated at the best table in the house with a spectacular view of the harbour and mountains - a real treat for a group from NYC, Dallas and Toronto. Our server Drew was exceptional. His table side manner and ability to read our group's dynamics were as good as it gets - a very funny and engaging individual. His thorough knowledge of the menu/wine list resulted in first class recommendations and pairings. The food was perfectly prepared, presented and delicious. My boyfriend and I are visiting Victoria for the first time together and we are staying at the Chateau hotel (where vista 18 is located). I made a reservation for 8 pm because that's when the live music starts. The views of the city was gorgeous and it definitely has a romantic vibe. We were greeted and seated right away. Our server was Nicole and she was so friendly and attentive. We had the smoked pork belly and it was so yummy and tender. Would definitely recommend. For my main dish, I've never had rabbit and I was feeling spontaneous so I ordered the rabbit. I really liked the root vegetables that came with it. The rabbit itself was like chicken but a little bit more gamey. Then we had the strawberry cheesecake. The strawberry cheesecake was deconstructed and not what I expected, but the sauces were really tasty. The strawberry sauce has sprinkles of cacao, so be aware that cacao is very bitter. The chocolate sauce is pretty standard but I was pleasantly surprised with the sprinkles on top! I think they rice crispy type things. The puff pasty was really good too. read more

Vista 18 is located on the rooftop of Chateau Victoria Hotel & Suites. They have great views looking out different directions. The day view would've been better though. I was told that you can see Mount Baker on one direction. Dining room was full and I went to the lounge. It was one of those days that you wanted to have a good steak. The 6 oz Angus sirloin steak was cooked nicely in medium rare. The server was very pleasant and helpful. She offered to add some fresh ground pepper. The first bite was good. Yet the flavour wasn't there without me adding some salt. The kennebec wedges were plain and not seasoned. Yet the honey roasted spaghetti squash was very tasty with the perfectly fresh texture on every single bite. For dessert I ordered the Espresso crème brûlée knowing that the espresso flavour was not overpowering. The flavour was great. You get the perfect balance of espresso and caramelized sugar. However, the texture of the crème brûlée was more like a liquidy mousse. It wasn't firm enough. I was a bit disappointed. The gingersnaps, on the other hand, were gingery and chewy just the way they should be. read more

There was a convention in town, so everything was crowded. Getting to the hotel is awkward, and the parking is abysmal. Waited 15 minutes for the elevator to take us to the 18th floor restaurant. The hostess was pleasant and seated us right away. The waiter was indifferent and didn't seem interested in us or his job. The menu has limited entrée options. The food is good and nicely presented. The wine list is small and for the most part it is just BC wines. It does have beautiful views of the city and waterfront. We would not go again nor recommend to friends. read more

Vista 18 had a wonderful ambience, very quiet and peaceful. With dim lighting and a romantic setting, would be perfect for a special date night out. My only qualm with Vista is the 'included tip.' The tip is included into your total for you at 18%. Service was great, my waiter was delightful but they forgot a part of my dish and needed reminders, and my chicken was quite bland. I was going to tip, but not 18%. Your guests/customers should be able to choose their tipping option and not be forced to cough up 18% of the already expensive bill. read more

One of the best views in Victoria. Once you get out of the elevator your sight will be hypnotized by the 360* of panoramic windows. Vista 18 gives you simple things to let your phone alone and relax your eyes: the planes passing by, the birds, the ocean, the mountains, the architecture of a beautiful city, the clouds... The service was amazing both times we went. We went for breakfast the first time. Our waiter was extremely attentive; he was constantly refilling our coffee, checking on us while smiling. He came out to be Mexican, from Oaxaca, with 10 years of service in there! No wonder why I liked him instantaneously lol. I ordered the West Coast breakfast. I liked the contrast between the saltiness of the crab, and the moisture of the bread with the egg yolks. The bennies were well executed. The potatoes could've been more crispy. The second time we went to celebrate my cousin's birthday. Is it a better way than saying cheers with mimosas while feeling in the sky? The waitress that day was super skilled. She described that day's special in such an attractive way, that we both ended ordering it. Came here for my anniversary dinner last night, service was top notch. From the get go we were seated with a lovely view and presented with drink and food menus. The server took her time taking our orders as we were stumped with how many good options the menu had set forth. We started with the vista greens and some bread in the side which was lovely, fresh and warm to the touch. The deconstructed salad idea paid off well and looked amazing on plate. I had the Wagyu Braised Brisket while my partner had the sirloin steak. Both were remarkable in taste, texture and overall presentation. The beef was so rich I was full half way through my meal, had to slowly eat the rest over the course of 10 minutes. All and all it was a fantastic meal and lovely atmosphere. The live music in the background was the best touch to add to such a lovely restaurant. Will be returning again soon. One star since the view is nice. Spaghetti was obviously pre-cooked and just reheated when I ordered it. Sauce was a bowl of onions. Bread was sliced cold baguette. Decor is very 1990s. I wanted to like it, but I can't. I felt annoyed and ripped off paying my bill. Edit To reply: yes - that is the dish I ordered. The green spaghetti- it was mostly a bowl of onions for the "green tomato sauce". This is 100% the right to place. Maybe the usual chefs weren't working since it was Boxing Day but they didn't even fresh cook my spaghetti noodles. They were very obviously pat boiled and reheated for my dish. read more

Perfectly cooked squid and unique combinations that absolutely delighted the palate. This was my first time back since the renovations which were done beautifully. Food took awhile to come out but it was nice of them to give us some complimentary muffins and some marmalade as well as fruit compote to go along with it and our toast. Took a LONG while for our server to come though and when he did, he seemed a bit disinterested so that was a bit of a let down on the rest of the experience. We went last night and I ordered duck mainly because it came with rice balls. Waiter but down dish with potatoes and walked away without an acknowledgment or apology for the substitute. When I said I didn't want potatoes, he offered french fries (still potatoes). The manager came over and said the meal would be removed from the bill but when the bill came it was still on just discounted. The salmon my mom and friend ordered were over cooked. The manager also said he was there best server which is sad as he was unfriendly and didn't smile. serving is more than putting plates in front of people. read more

Wow! Before duck breast gets put on the menu, you need to make sure you have a chef that can cook it. Honestly it tasted and looked like it had been microwaved. It was totally cooked through to the point where it was dry, tough and chewy and the skin was soggy and gross. A beautiful view of Victoria!! Such a great place to come to for breakfast or brunch. Very tasty, customizable options for a surprisingly inexpensive deal! Their jams are made in-house, they have tasty toast (including cranberry sourdough!), and their 3-egg omelettes are made fluffy and packed with your choice of three fillings. There aren't many breakfast places in Victoria that offer Dungeness crab as an omelette choice, but Vista 18 sure does a great job of it! Their coffee is super tasty and come unlimitless!
