That home is conveniently located within minutes of the other 3 Arcadia homes. All of these homes are beautifully designed and have great amenities for their senior residents. I was also impressed with the on-site caregivers at each of the homes. They are caring, concerned and committed to serve their residents. When I visited the home at 4602 E. Camelback Rd., I had a chance to meet a daughter of one of the residents. She raved about the care her Mother has been receiving there and the variety of activities Vista offered to her Mother and the other residents. We spoke in the backyard of the Camelback Rd. house which has Camelback Mountain in the near background. Wow, what a nice amenity. The 3 other homes also offer a great view of Camelback Mountain, especially the newest house in Paradise Valley. I would clearly recommend the Vista Living Senior Care group of homes to anyone looking for a place for their senior loved ones to live.

The staff have always been friendly and helpful and the residents genuinely love living here. There is a variety of daily activities for those that want to participate, quality food onsite (all meals included), and plenty of additional amenities that help make living here super convenient. It's also a great location just east of Scottsdale on Shea. The apartments themselves are a great size and the entire facility is clean and vibrant. I'm not sure if this will be "home" for the long term for my mom, but it has been perfect for the time being.

Yesterday, I went to visit them and have lunch with them at their facility's restaurant. From the moment I walked in, I marveled at how new and beautiful everything looked. There was even a slight smell of fresh paint to add to the newness. The decor in the lobby was gorgeous and upscale, with high ceilings, inventive light fixtures, and lots of seating. The restaurant offers sit-down service. They have daily specials and a soup of the day. They had a good variety of sandwiches, salads, soups, and desserts for lunch. The brownie was my favorite part of the meal. It was decadent! This facility allows for small pets. There is a dog run area outside. There's also a heated pool and a gorgeous seating area outside with a large television mounted on the wall. My friend showed me the activity schedule. They offer many fitness and enrichment classes, such as art classes in the art studio. There are also bridge, rummikub, and mahjong groups that meet on a regular basis. This facility is not yet at 100% capacity. I would definitely recommend booking a tour if you are in the market for retirement living, assisted living, or memory care.

When they see family members come in, they act like they're super caring, but I've caught them several times ignoring the residents. Most of the residents look beat up and bruised from falling because they weren't being watched. The staff are thieves. Management could care less about anything. And your nickel and dimed for everything, you think you pay one price but your bill is several thousand dollars a month more. I was told one thing several times, but they never stick to their word they do what they want. I've never met a bunch of more uncaring people in my whole entire life. It was good for quite a while, but now (Fall 2019) it is in turmoil. It is woefully understaffed (does it even meet code?). They can't retain people at any level, from primary caregivers to department managers. Pay levels and how staff is treated are both issues. The facility is nice, opening in 2016, but their management has taken a serious turn for the worse. The ownership of this facility is Morningstar Senior Management of Denver, CO. They provide no e-mail address, no complaint channel via e-mail, web or telephone, and no one on their executive team will either take a phone call or return a message. Sadly, we are going to look for another facility.

Through experience I have come to believe that staff turnover is highly correlated to quality and consistency of care. As I searched I was looking for an intimate and clean setting with low staff turnover as an indicator that the staff were happy in their job and therefore capable of providing consistent high quality care. Many, if not most at Parkland have been there 5-6 years. It was no contest. Parkland is a great facility, built specifically for memory care patients. What truly impresses, though, is the caring, attentive nature of the staff...and I mean everyone from the executive director to the caregivers!! They actively engage the residents and are kind, attentive and respectful. I am so happy I made the choice to take her to Parkland. She recently passed but loved her time there, especially loved the staff and the residents. If you have choice, you need to look at Parkland first. Incredible!

Everyone seems like they've known each other for a lifetime and the hardworking team of employees has made a beautiful home for those living there. I've been blown away by this facility. From the attentive staff, the residents, the beautiful grounds, their activities and inclusion of all residents- it makes my heart so full. You feel like family the moment you walk in. The upbeat and compassionate energy is so contagious. They have one activity that I'm particularly touched by. Each week, Trader Joe's donates their unsellable flowers to Countryside. The residents join in the common area to create their own floral arrangements, which decorate the halls and lobby of this one-of-a-kind establishment. The smiles, the conversations, the interactions with one another...it's beautiful. As I was leaving today, after the floral arrangement activity, they had a little table set up in the lobby. "FLOWERS: $10". On the table were beautiful arrangements made by the residents that they were selling to visitors. My heart melted. How proud they were of their masterpieces and how each week, they meticulously pick out stems from the BOUNTY of flowers that were donated and put their own personal touches into their creations. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to purchase an arrangement. This wasn't made by an expert florist. This is a bouquet made by the hands of someone very special. Someone who finds joy in the small things. Someone who has a lifetime of stories to share. Someone who sees the beauty in friendships, small talk and being in the moment. Someone who reminds me everyday why I do what I do. Thank you, Countryside Living, for making each day a beautiful one for your residents.

They're absolutely nothing like the nursing homes of days gone by. These places are lovely. Long gone are those grim nursing homes hallways with that distinctive "nursing home" smell and patients moaning out for help from their room. A few years ago, my mother-in-law needed assisted living. My husband and I performed an expensive search of places in the greater Phoenix area. All of them were surprisingly expensive. To help offset some of those costs, people are often eligible for VA assistance or long-term nursing care insurance policies. With the majority assisted living places costing about the same, we focused on the quality of lifestyle that could be provided for our loved one. Sunrise of Scottsdale offers many activities, live entertainment singers + dancers, theme parties, games, field trips, etc. They even offer afternoon happy hours with beer and wine and a few nibbles too. In addition to social activities, a complete kitchen staff caters to the resident's individual dietary needs and food preferences. Importantly, a medical nursing staff is always on the premises, with a physician on call and nearby. Residents are charged a monthly fee according to the level of assistance they need. For example, if a resident can take their own meds, bath and dress independently, that would be cheaper than someone who requires a higher level of care. Should the time come that your loved one needs even more supervised attention, the top (third) floor is dedicated to those with Alzheimer's and other conditions that require extra monitoring. The doors are locked for patient safety so they can't wander off, but the residents are always treated with dignity and kindness. My dear mother-in-law has lived in the independent assisted living area for about four years. She says it's the most beautiful and best place she's lived in her entire life. She tells her old friends that that she's "living in a mansion." Her bedroom suite is private and perfectly sized for a single occupant. Her suite contains a mini-kitchen with a small sink, microwave, and refrigerator. She doesn't really need the kitchenette because she eats her meals in the dining room. However, come to think of it, she does use her suite's mini-refrigerator to stash her whiskey and fun-size chocolate candy bars. Bad habits? Well, yes, but she's 90 years old for heaven's sakes, I think it's okay to cut her some slack.
