I wish there was more stars to give! Vitae Weddings was so great from the first contact I had with them all the way through to now! Starting with a pre-wedding video call, emails in between and follow ups right after the wedding. Stacie was there to answer any and all questions (even with Callie getting married right before our date-she was with us the whole way). Stacie and Becca shot the wedding and they were both absolutely AMAZING. Vitae Weddings recently shot couples portraits of my partner and I. I was so happy with the photos and my partner loved them. We ended up shooting in Griffith Park and DTLA, and Stacie got some amazing portraits of us with our dog as well. I was incredibly happy with the service I received, and both of the photographers are kind and respectful and fun to work with. When I received the photos Vitae Wedding Photography took for our engagement, I cried...and they weren't tears of joy. My fiancé, who's in the military, was deployed three times, and always reminds me, "if you're not getting shot at, it isn't important," took one look, walked away, and refused to talk about them. When a GUY is that unhappy about photos, you know something is horribly wrong. We hired Vitae Weddings because the work on their site is lovely. The work we got? Not so much. Instead of the golden hour light and blue skies we remembered, it looked like our shoot took place during a supernova. There were massive light flares obliterating facial features (unlike the delicate ones on their site), circles of light on boobs (right where you don't want them), whirling rainbows of light on crotches (how romantic!), and streaks of light across foreheads. In many shots, my fiancé appeared like an extra who'd wandered into the shoot. There were photos of me and my fiancé's shoulder, me and half his torso, or me in focus and my fiancé completely blurry. We struggled to find shots showing BOTH our faces clearly. When we could see our faces, we wished we hadn't. Thanks to Vitae's unflattering upward angles and harsh lighting, I no longer need to imagine what I might look like in 20 years and 20 lbs. heavier, or what the underside of my fiancé's chin looks like. (In his words: "They made me look like Shrek.") If adding age, weight and extra chins weren't enough, his naturally brown hair appeared gray, his skin was waxy, and I looked like I'd applied blush to only one cheek and had purplish burns on my chest. When we expressed our disappointment, their explanations included: * we couldn't compare or expect our photos to be similar to those on their site (which is like saying if I hire Prince, Justin Bieber is fine too) * they were "enhancing a mood they felt compelled to convey" (WTH?!) * essentially blamed us for not looking better or trying harder * said my fiancé's hair appeared gray because mine was "warmer" It seems when Vitae takes photos, YOU. WILL. LIKE. THEM. We are not the second coming of George and Amal, but we hand our iPhones to total strangers and get pics we easily love a thousand times more than what they delivered. We even high-fived after the shoot because we did everything they asked, including all the cliché poses and cheesy expressions. Still, Vitae insisted they'd delivered "many" beautiful photos. So we shared the online gallery with friends and family. Comments ranged from: "Is that a joke?" "Were those different photographers?" "Was he ill?" "It seems like they didn't know how to manipulate their lighting situation very well hence the gray hair and washed out skin tones." (a pro photographer) We explained our friends and families didn't like the photos either, but no matter how many ways we said the same thing, they seemed oblivious. Their lack of empathy (I was heartbroken) and inability to acknowledge our viewpoint left us feeling a reshoot was not an option. Since we didn't download a single photo, we asked for a refund. They refused. Offering merely $200 of the $545 we'd paid. We'd invested even more money on hair/makeup/new clothes/dry cleaning on top of their fee, but all they'd lost was time. After they failed to produce anything better, we agreed to the partial refund, asking if we could take some of the photos to be retouched (their contract prohibits altering their work in any way). Many of my friends, after seeing their work, offered to try and salvage things. Vitae refused again. It seemed they were determined to make this as difficult as possible. Which, when you're planning a wedding, is exactly what you need: more stress! They insisted they were professional retouchers. What they returned, in our opinion, was only marginally better. My fiancé's hair was no longer gray, but now it looked like (as he said), Grecian Formula for Men. Still, we figured we'd cut our losses and use the partial refund toward new photos. When it didn't arrive, we called. Vitae notified us via email they'd arbitrarily kept it as a "retouching fee." We never agreed to that (our friends would have done it for free if they'd given consent). Plus, if Vitae had done their job, retouching wouldn't be necessary! We waited two months to shoot, another month for photos, and contracted for 150-200 shots. What we got are a handful of unflattering, heavily retouched photos we have no choice but to settle for. Somehow, they think this is fair. The silver lining is we didn't book Vitae for our wedding and can now show our wedding photographer exactly what we DON'T want. If you gamble on Vitae Weddings and are lucky enough to receive work that actually resembles what's on their site, I envy you. But why take a HUGE risk on a day you can't repeat? In our opinion, Vitae is more interested in taking money than quality photos. One last tip: don't pay until you see the pics! read more

We just received our preview and I am absolutely speechless. I can't even believe it's us in those photos. Even more than that though - Stacie was incredible. My now husband is a man of few words and on our wedding night as we were talking about the day he just said "Stacie was great. There was so much going on & she had such a calming energy." We didn't feel rushed AND we were able to get all the shots while still having enough time to join the cocktail hour for a bit, which was important to us. The whole day was a blur, but I remember the photo session because it felt so relaxed. It was probably one of, if not, my favorite part of the day. I should mention we had only ever met virtually prior to the wedding day and I was nervous we'd feel stiff or awkward, but Stacie immediately put us at ease. read more

My fiancé and I had the wonderful pleasure of having Vitae shoot our engagement photos. I am really awkward in photos, so I was a bit hesitant at first and knew for sure that the only one in the photos that was going to look amazing was my beautiful fiancé. Boy was I wrong!!! The photos were amazing!!!!! We spent a couple hours in a beautiful garden, can't really remember the name right now, and just wandered around and it seemed like they weren't even there. After about 10 mins I actually almost forgot they were there shadowing us. They did an amazing job of finding creative angles and capturing the love between us. I found Vitae Weddings while searching for photographers on various wedding websites. I went to their website and looked at their photos and fell in love with them. They didn't look like every other wedding photos that I had seen a million times and that's what I was looking for! They capture a lot of candid, in the moment shots that really make you experience the feelings of your special day. We loved having Stacie and Callie at our wedding. They were great at directing all of us for the group and posed photos but also amazing at stealthy capturing all of the special moments in between. What can I say about Vitae Weddings? They were wonderful!! We hired them to photograph our wedding in April 2014. A friend told us about them so we checked out their work and really enjoyed what we saw. We were looking for wedding photographers that use natural light and have a playful use of sun flares. Their work displayed both! We don't always like the way pictures turn out for us as one of us is usually making an awkward face or pose but they were able to capture us beautifully. They really worked with the available light and made us and our families feel at ease. Our wedding was in South Lake Tahoe so we felt very fortunate that the ladies were able to travel. They showed up when they said they would and were around and made sure to got the photos we wanted. We had set up a small list and timeline for the day to make things easier since we planned a first look as well as family pictures and sunset pictures as a couple. They made the whole experience really enjoyable and I cannot suggest them enough for any work you might be considering them for. I didn't know the ladies from Vitae Wedding before that first meeting we had with them but now I can consider them friends and look forward to working with them again! I used Yelp to help me navigate through vendors for my wedding so I know how helpful reviews can be. Stacie and Callie of Vitae weddings are amazing! My husband and I are both photographers, so choosing a great photographer for our wedding was vey important to us. Callie and Stacie photographed us ALL DAY capturing from the getting ready, all the way through the end of the evening in a beautiful documentary style. Because they are 2 photographers, they were able to stay with both me and my husband beforehand to get some lovely shots of each of us with our wedding party/best friends. They also were able to get some really gorgeous shots of the actual wedding ceremony, which is actually the hardest thing to do!! I was so happy with all of the photos when we received them. They are knowledgeable, pleasant, warm, non-intrusive, but also able to get all the photos we wanted. They delivered them fast (I think it was within a month or so of the wedding - this is hard to do! I know, I am a wedding photographer!) and their edit and color are so beautiful! I had the good fortune to work with Vitae Weddings during my best friend's wedding. As the Maid of Honor and the 'local contact' for the out-of-town bride, I had a lot of contact with Vitae and we could not have had a better experience. As a near-professional bridesmaid (but never the bride! Boo!) I've seen my share of wedding photographers who can make you feel like you are being stalked by paparazzi. Vitae was the BEST at capturing all of the best moments but somehow seamlessly integrating into the day. I am all kinds of awkward about being in photos and they managed to make even me feel comfortable and forget they were there--which is no mean feat, trust me. And I wasn't even the bride and they still took the time to PhotoShop out my eye bags--how nice is that?! I love it when photos of myself don't make me cringe. These are NOT run-of-the-mill, stodgy wedding photos--so if that's your thing, look elsewhere. They have a creative eye for capturing the emotion and energy of the event that feels like you are back in the moment when you look at the pictures. Having made a lot of the wedding decorations by hand, we loved how they made sure to capture all the little details that we spent so much time on and that would have been easily forgotten after the event was over. Having gotten to know them through the wedding I later hired Vitae to take some portraits of my dog (who very sadly passed away not long after the photos were taken). She could be very shy, so they did a truly amazing job getting her to come out of her shell and they cared so much about capturing her personality and not just 'getting the shot.' Needless to say, those photos are some of my all-time favorites and most treasured memories. They were so kind to take on this job for me as they are not really pet photographers, but I am so grateful to Vitae that I have them! Vitae Weddings shot our wedding last November and I still look at the photos every week and re-live the joy of the night. I really was worried about things feeling to "staged" or "cheesy" when picking a photographer and wanted ours to be beautiful and stylist and capture the moments of the night so I would look back and remember how I felt. From the first email with Stacie and Callie I knew they would achieve that. They were so in tune with my vibe and even made the groom feel comfortable and have fun too. I love the photos so much. Where to start? We had the most lovely experience working with Vitae Weddings! We were getting married in Northern California, and they happily traveled to work with us. They captured everything about our day, down to the tiny details-- things that didn't seem important at the time, but now that I look back at the photos, I'm so glad that they did. True professionals, I was extremely impressed with the work the day of our wedding, as well as the finished product that was delivered. The images were beautifully shot and edited, and Stacie even helped manage our caterer, who was pressuring us to "move it along." She conducted her self gracefully and thanks to her, we were able to capture the most amazing shot of my husband and I, back-lit by the setting sun in front of an ancient oak tree. Long after the wedding had come and gone, I worked with Callie and Stacie to have hard-bounded photo books printed, with custom linen covers. These books made amazing gifts for our mothers and grandmothers, and became true keepsakes for our families. I'm also happy to say that quite a few of our friends have hired Vitae to shoot their own weddings, after seeing our photos. Just yesterday I saw the photos for Emily & Dave's wedding in Los Angeles, and they had me wishing that I could go back and relive that day! My only regret is that we didn't also work with Callie and Stacie for an engagement session-- but I'd love to schedule an "anniversary portrait" session, next year! I just got my wedding photos. In short, I wish I could give these ladies a million stars. Callie and Stacie are so talented and truly a pleasure. I will be recommending them to everyone I know who gets married...EVERYONE! And they travel, so my friends across the country will be hearing about them, too! Now for those of you who like reading... I reached out with a short time frame to these ladies because, being the world's laziest bride, I crapped out of planning a large wedding and at last minute planned a tiny one. Actually, it was more like an elopement - but with parents, because who likes to get married and disowned on the same day? Anyway, being the in-demand photographers that they are, their near term schedules were packed but thankfully they were able to make one of my proposed dates. I was on a budget since I had an impending celebration two weeks later to accommodate the rest of my gigantic overseas family, and Callie and Stacie and I went back and forth a number of times via email and phone to make something work. I was so desperate to have them photograph my wedding - I even offered to have half the number of pictures they usually take. Hell, I would've settled for ONE good photo by them, I wanted them so badly. We went back and forth, and honestly, I was surprised they were even talking to me when we struck a deal, because they have enough assignments as is, my tiny wedding and I were undoubtedly a pain, and they should know that life is too short in general. But they are the consummate professionals, and the whole time they were so pleasant and wanting to accommodate. They said they were intrigued by the idea of a wedding this small and wanted to still find a way to tell a story with it. The fact that they were still willing to make something work and were still focused on telling the story of my big day despite my limitations really shows just how passionate they are about their craft. They don't just snap a few pics and call it a day...it's really about capturing everything, feelings and experience included. Stacie and Callie also helped me decide what time to have the ceremony and when to take pictures, go in for dinner, etc. As I didn't have any coordinator for my ceremony, their knowledge of what would work and what wouldn't was SUPER helpful. It's so nice to know that your pictures are getting the right lighting...seriously, how many times have you tried a selfie over the sunset, only to blend in with the wood behind you? Or perhaps a quick pic during a nice evening stroll, and you end up looking like Casper the Friendly Ghost? I rest my case. If you take a look at their portfolio, you'll know that these ladies absolutely know their lighting and that is extremely helpful/comforting. On the actual day, they arrived early to tour the grounds, set up shots, etc. Because the wedding gods never allow the bride to be on time, hard as we may try, I ended up being late due to hair/makeup. But they kept busy and took the time to take a lot of beautiful pictures on the hotel grounds, which I appreciated. I met them for the first time when I arrived in the hotel lobby - we hadn't done the typical pre-wedding meeting/consultation since their work on their website spoke for itself, and as it turns out, I really didn't need one since they immediately put you at ease. When getting ready in the hotel suite, they had it all planned out from the moment we walked in - what types of pictures to take and when, what they'd need for it, etc. These ladies WENT TO WORK. My now-husband and I remarked to each other a few times how we really knew we were in good hands at that point. Callie and Stacie are two best friends who work seamlessly together...they have a way of (kindly) directing those of us who aren't models, with out any awkwardness or discomfort. If anything, this part is what I was nervous about before the big day - I've met some artists who are so talented and so certain in how they want things, that they end up being a little "rough" (ever been intimidated by your own hairdresser? I HAVE, AND IT'S NOT FUN). Thankfully, there was absolutely none of that with Stacie and Callie. They have a real talent for creating atmospheres where you can just enjoy being with your loved ones, while they take pictures (but seem invisible!). Not intrusive at all. My husband is extremely private and even he kept saying how surprisingly comfortable he felt. And that man does NOT take pictures. That should say everything. The rest of the evening went swimmingly, minus the fact that the hotel elevators were broken and we had to climb up several flights of stairs. Stacie and Callie stayed absolute champs, taking pictures the whole way. I really cannot emphasize enough how thankful I am to have had Stacie and Callie photograph my wedding. The Vitae team shot our engagement pictures in Big Sur, and we had an amazing time! They made us feel comfortable, and really helped us to understand how to be in front of the camera without it looking too posed. We don't like contrived and posy shots, and we're super happy with the end result, with images that are candid and loose. They also had a great eye for location, and as we walked around, they found awesome backdrops, nooks and crannies that fitted the aesthetic that we were looking for. We planned our destination wedding in Palm Springs California for November 2016 while living across the country in Washington DC. Needless to say that finding vendors seemed overwhelming and stressful. When we decided on having our wedding in Palm Springs, we knew we wanted to showcase the awesomeness of the desert landscape. We had researched photographers online and stumbled across Vitae's photos on a few wedding blogs and just fell in love with their photographic style. On their website their portfolio reconfirmed what we were looking for- a seamless connection between the surrounding landscape and the bride and groom's portraits. The artistic merger between Callie and Stacie's photographic strengths was exactly what we were looking for. We had met up with Callie and Stacie once before the wedding weekend, and found them to be lovely, professional and easygoing. They were even more impressive the weekend of our wedding. We had asked, last minute, if they would mind photographing our welcome dinner and they were very accommodating. They really captured the spirit of the evening and got some great shots of family and friends that we will cherish. On our wedding day, they were even more fantastic then we could have asked for. They had scoped out great locations in the desert for us and our bridal party to take photos. While, both my husband and I are incredibly camera shy, they made us feel so relaxed and calm and we both really enjoyed the afternoon with them leading up to the wedding ceremony. At our cocktail hour, they did an amazing job of corralling our family for the numerous (obligatory) family photos. At dinner and the reception, they just blended in to the party and captured our evening beautifully. A lot of our guests made such comments, as "your photographers are so friendly and wonderful." Even when our time was up with Callie and Stacie, we felt that they were such an important part of our day that we extended an invitation for them to join our after-party to just relax for the evening. We received a sample gallery of our photos 4 days after the wedding and we were just blown away. Our pictures came out above and beyond our expectations! We then received all of our photos (rehearsal, welcome dinner, wedding) 4 days after this. Their style is just so beautiful! We sent the link to our friends and family and everyone keeps saying how spectacular they are. Our beautiful photos were the icing on the cake that was a great trip, intimate wedding weekend, and beautiful location. Callie and Stacie really know how to capture your special moments. They got shots from places I had never even noticed, all through our intimate ceremony and never once interrupted things. Their photographs allowed us to relive our wedding and see all the details we missed on the day.
