used to love this place--the pizza was always flavorful, generously topped, and absolutely worth the price. Every slice felt like a great value and a genuinely enjoyable experience. Unfortunately, things have changed. Not only has the quality of the pizza gone downhill, but the service has as well. The toppings are noticeably skimpy now, and what used to be a loaded, delicious slice feels more like a basic frozen pizza. What's especially frustrating is that the prices haven't gone down--in fact, they seem the same or higher. Service was great and so was the pizza. Unfortunately the whole place smelled sour, like they use the same mop from the bathroom in the whole place and never let it dry. Just needs a good scrubbing. All their other locations are great, just this one needs a good cleaning crew. Tip for the manager from a find dinning manager. Each part of the house gets their own mop and they must be hung to dry over night. Chantel heads once a week. OR Hiring a cleaning crew for the front of the house and let the kitchen crew clean to industry standard every night. Great food, great potential! read more

When I called in to place a carryout order I chatted with the phone guy a bit. His best description of their pizza is "DC style with a brown crust and the freshest toppings. I liked the pizza so much I wanted to work here." Sold. Pictures provided enough information. Depictions indicated all toppings are diced. His review and those shared by folks at my hotel swore by this pizza. From reviews and web surfing, this is a hot spot for locals. We were lucky they were open late despite the Labor day holiday. Grabbed a pizza with everything on it and an order of combination (meat & cheese) stuffed manicotti which was topped with tomato sauce and Mozz. In the container it looked like a fat slice of lasagna topped with a heavy amount of sauce and cheese. The pizza smacked. Everyone was thrilled. If anyone remembers how good Pizza Hut was in the 80s, think Priazzo time. It was that good. Pizza sauce was different. At first taste, it wasn't wet like most pizza sauces, it tasted dry almost like a tomato paste. Second try was the next day. Microwaving (hotel life)it, still pretty good but sauce wasn't present, it was drowned out by the flavors of the many toppings. The red onion and olives were pronounced. Though I wish there was a bit more of that pungent red onion. The pasta was tasty but would I recommend it, no. If you have a hankering it would do but it's not anything authentic. I was on my way to a place when I realized that I was super hungry, so I saw Vitale's on the way and decided to drop by. I got the Classic Vitale's Pizza - Deluxe, 12". On the deluxe pizza, you have sliced pepperoni, ham, Italian sausage (that is homemade), mushrooms, green peppers, and onions. Needless to say, it was a very hearty pizza. The pizza was good! It wasn't oily, which I appreciated. The amount of toppings they added was in generous portions. The veggies tasted good - not wilty like how I have experienced in pizzas elsewhere. The meats on the pizza were delicious. It lasted me three meals. The crust was good - I do prefer slightly more doughy and thicker crust, but that is just a personal preference. For the 12" pizza it was $20.90, 14" was $23.60, and 16" 26.65. But considering how it lasted me 2-3 meals, I suppose the prices are pretty decent! But if I were to spend that much money on a pizza, I'd probably rather go to Martha's. But Vitale's later hours make it much more convenient. The service was good though. I ordered behind the counter, and got to talk to the people who worked there - super nice! It was fun talking to them. For a large order, you have to place it 2 days ahead of time - understandable. When we picked our order up, some of it was not ready. I've been to Vitale's a handful of times and enjoy this local sports bar/pub. The menu includes pizza, sandwiches, wraps, salads, pasta specialties, and more. I ordered a club wrap with chips the last time we were there and Nate got the deluxe sub. The sub was definitely the way to go! I loved the soft bread and the toppings were plentiful. The wrap was decent, just your average club wrap. The kettle chips were pretty bad somehow, they tasted like nothing to me. I might get fries next time. I've had Vitale's pizza before and it's average. I think I prefer Peppino's to Vitale's for pizza at least. Our server was swamped and they were definitely short staffed so we had to ask for a couple things a few times but overall it was a good visit. I don't frequent this neighborhood spot too often but I've been satisfied when I do stop in. read more

Went there with couple friends for the first time. The place is fairly big and very clean. They have two seating areas, one is more quite and brighter than the other. The bathrooms were in okay condition, there was water on the floor. The food however was really good. One of my friend is vegetarian and the waiter was very considerate of that. He got the veggie sub which he enjoyed. The rest of us shared a pizza. The pizza was really good!! The crust was perfect, the cheese pull was beautiful. It was definitely one of the best pizzas I have had in GR. The waiter was also super nice and helpful. Had great service. It's official I'll never order food from here again, and it breaks my heart. I use to love a good sausage pizza from Vitales. The sauce, the crust, and the authentic Italian sausage was treat to look forward to. About 2 years ago I noticed a shift in the sauce. Inflation effects all so I kinda looked past it. I continued to order from here occasionally. Then the sausage changed from a sweet authentic sausage to something off brand from a back alley butcher. I tried the Comstock Park location but unfortunately they were no match to the once amazing top notch pizza I craved. After spending 2 days in the heat at Upheaval fest my friend and I were looking for a kitchen open late that was close by. Vitale's popped up and after looking at the photos of the interiori was sold. We arrived at 11pm she's the kitchen was open for another half hour. We got a large meat lovers pizza and let me tell you, we were blown away. One of the best pies I've had in a long time. Fresh from the oven the cheese pull was epic. The Italian sausage had a great fennel flavor and the sauce was slightly sweet. The staff was great being very attentive even though we rolled in almost at the cutoff. Really the only thing I would complain about was my phone (t-mobile) could not get a signal inside the restaurant. But that's my network's issue not Vitale's. read more

In general I luv the sub sandwiches here. Customer service is on the question side of today's visit. Not busy in the bar area, but they did have a group in the separate room. Plenty of staff for both. I sat for almost ten minutes at a table and not one person acknowledged that I was even there. I slowly got up and walked out.... There are other places that pay attention to the customers. Still luv the subs, however, I don't like to be ignored for that long.... If you are busy, just say so. Have enjoyed Vitales Pizza since it opened as Pizza Queen back in the late 60's. Only person who spoke English manned the phone & took phone take out orders. It only originally was a take out. Pizza was worth the drive. Awesome. Has through most of the years I've come here been an exceptional pizza. I know time moves on and things change. It appears this is true at Location on Leonard St in GR. Pizza I got today had a thick doughy crust that reminded me of the "Rising Crust " Pizzas they sell in the frozen section of the Grocery stores. Long time Vitale's customer, and by that I mean a good 40 years since I began living in GR. I don't know what's up since Sam retired, but the crust is horrible. No flavor and so tough to chew through. Sauce and toppings are still fine, but man, it's hard to want to get pizza here anymore since the crust has gone downhill so badly. :( read more

I loved this place for 50 yrs! Yes, I am old but not dead yet! Returned to give a 2nd chance Jan 2023 and things were improved! Their pizza has always been good. End of Nov. had attended dinner with a friend . Had been terribly disappointed. One of the few places that has Manicotti but this night I choose Mostaccioli Al Forno which has always been good. Below the mass of cheese was just a thin very oily plate of pasta instead of the rich meaty seasoned tomato sauce I expected. Waitress said they were making a lot of changes. I complained, wrote a note saying raise the prices, cut the portions 20% but DON'T change the recipes . I have always loved their pizza, entrees. I grew up with Vitales in the 70's & used to be my all time favorite pizza ever. Sadly the quality is hit or miss - doesn't matter if it's restaurant, sports bar or take out. Most times now it's burnt or wrong, and if it's "correct" it's way skimpy for the price. Tonight I ordered a sub & spaghetti/meatball dinner online & paid before I arrived. The gentleman who was running the register was very apologetic and kind. However since the take out area shares a kitchen with the sports bar, your dinner ticket (spaghetti) goes behind everyone else in the sit down area while whatever other food you have made 30-40 minutes earlier sits hardening on top of the ovens to stay warm. Id prefer my food all come out roughly at the same time & be correct, tasty & worth my time, effort & money. $25 for spaghetti, a sub and a bottle of Coke is pricey (welcome to yet another recent price increase). After waiting the 15-20 mins I was told it'd be delayed, they sent one of the takeout workers over to help the bar kitchen staff because my ticket was still 5 behind where they were. Vitales pizza used to be my favorite pizza, but I just went there and I brought home my pizza and noticed a huge clump of hair cooked on my pizza!! I called them and they had me bring the pizza back and to get my money back. It was such a huge clump and the smell was really strong of burning hair/plastic (i initially smelled it right away and figured it was just a strange cardboard smell from the box) so I do not know how they didn't notice. AMAZING BREADSTICKS. I probably would have just been satisfied if I had just eaten the whole thing of breadsticks as my meal. This place came recommended from a coworker so I decided to come check it out with another coworker. We loved the breadsticks (lots of garlic and cheese) with marinara sauce on the side for dipping. The only downfall was that it took a bit for the breadsticks to come out and the pizza quickly followed right behind it so we didn't have too much downtime in between the appetizer and the meal. The pizza was the medium 14" pizza- half sausage and half sausage and peperoni and extra sauce. We did thin crust pizza which definitely wasn't too thin which I enjoyed because I typically like a thicker crust but we went for the thin crust. The thin crust was definitely on the verge of being labeled a regular hand tossed pizza. The service was fine - not terrible but not great. I ordered a cocktail from the cocktail menu and the waitress didn't know what it even was and needed me to show her. She forgot a refill of my coworkers drink towards the end of our meal but it's okay. She did apologize for not checking up on us as often as she would have liked because she was swamped so that was nice. read more
