Terrible management. The owner is very unprofessional. Completely fell off after the last owners…read more They need to seek some professional help if they plan on keeping that place running.

The app says at the top that I might consider "Food", "Service", and "Ambiance" in writing this…read morereview. I would consider all of those things but that would be unfair. Because I didn't experience any of them. I've lived in the next town for almost eight years. In that time I've eaten at the New Canaan Diner AT LEAST 100 times. This night was not special; just looking for a late night hamburger. It's Friday night, May 9. It's raining. The sign in the window says that they are open until 9 pm. I walked in at 8:40 pm. Ok, a little late, but I just wanted a hamburger. More than half of the tables were filled. All of the seats at the counter were filled. People were eating. All good signs. The waiter said, "We're closed," and immediately turned his back to me. Not "Sorry, we're closed." Just "We're closed," and I got his back. I looked around the room at all the people eating and said to one of the other waitstaff, "You're closed?" She looked embarrassed and said, "Well, the kitchen is closed...." She seemed to understand that her colleague's behavior was inappropriate in a retail eating establishment. He shouldn't leave this job to be a greeter at Walmart. He would be bad at that. I nodded and walked out. I'm having Japanese food across the street. I really didn't want Japanese food for dinner, but the food is always good at Hama and the hospitality is always superior. All the chefs at the sushi bar bow and say "thank you" as I leave. I'm sure that their gratitude is not deeply sincere, but it beats "We're closed" followed by an abrupt about-face. The diner is dead to me. At least for a while.
