The cilantro rice was my favorite item on the plate at Viva Chicken. We both ordered quarter chicken ($2.25 upcharge for my breast piece). The plantains were nicely caramelized. The beans lacked flavor but paired well with the rice. The fried rice had ample veggie pieces. The breast was moist and a little too wet for my liking. My husband enjoyed the dark meat chicken, sharing that it had that Peruvian flavor that he expected and enjoyed. I would have liked a spicier sauce to accompany the chicken for added flavor to the meal. The restaurant had ample space inside, with clean tables, and quick service. We ordered takeout and the food overall was delicious. The ingredients were fresh, portions a good size and prepared in a timely manner. Minus three stars for food contamination. I understand this is a primarily chicken place but we had one order of salad that was for a vegan. There were small bits of chicken found in the salad when we asked for the meat omitted. I've been here multiple times and it's always been good and food was always cooked. Last Sunday i ordered the quarter chicken with rice and green beans, which is what i get every time. The chicken was under cooked and not even a day later i got the worst food poisoning i've ever had. It's now Sunday of next week and i'm stilling throwing up. I've been to my doctor and the ER and they said it was severe food poisoning. I'm not sure if this was something more than raw chicken and the sides were off too, but definitely make sure your food is fully cooked when eating here. My wife and I went to the Ballantyne location for dine in September 11, 2023 around 8 pm and ordered 1/4 all white chicken with Solterito, sweet potato fries. 1/2 chicken with double plaintains and the food was warm, lightly seasoned and I didn't get my solterito. The sweet potato fries were luke warm and a small portion. This is the second time in 3 weeks that the chicken hasn't been as flavorful, well marinated and well seasoned as we're accustomed to. It really seems like this location has fallen off. Viva Peruvian food! Yes a chain but worth a visit or three. Three sauce levels: Yellow, green & red sauces. (Peru is known for its pepper- not only hot but with nuances of flavor). Charbroiled chicken goodness. Amazingly tasty sides. But our favorite is the solterito salad. My chicken today had charred edges- which made it even tastier. Consistently good food. Nice restaurant setup with self-serve available to go boxes. Couldn't see fountain drinks where we were ordering- so we ordered 1 of 3 kinds of juice-type drinks. (Guessing no refills). MRMS wrestling team placed several curbside orders during our wrestling season. Placing the order online, for 40+ athletes, was incredibly easy!! The healthy kids options were perfect for the boys. Generous portion size, healthy meals, drink included for a very reasonable price. The meals come individually boxed and labeled with the athlete's names on them. Viva Waverly made the experience absolutely amazing. They went above and beyond for all of our group orders and wished our wrestlers luck when we picked up. One particular time, the milk didn't get picked up along with our order. Someone from viva called us and DELIVERED the milks. Happily! They said they wanted the boys to have their milk with their meal before the wrestling match and wished them all good luck. Above and beyond!!! If I could give the Waverly location zero stars I would. I am a regular who comes to this restaurant twice a week with my kids and I have always been treated so well. Recently there has been a change in management, all of the original staff is gone and there is a woman running the show. She is so mean to the customers, if anything is wrong, she flips the script like it's your fault and treats you like a second class citizen. She was so mean to me that I was shaking and I couldn't even eat my food. The food order was very specific and I gave very specific instructions twice and it all came out wrong. The manager was very annoyed and treated me very poorly while dealing with the situation . By the time they fixed it, the food looked old, soggy and my plantains were freezing cold. The workers looked visibly scared like they were a bunch of robots being controlled by this manager. I couldn't even eat the food, so I needed a box. I asked one of the food runners for a box and the manager asked him to come back and do his job and not talk to me. What kind of customer service is that? I am the consumer coming in to eat with a need and I was made to feel like I was imposing on them. This is the most horrific dining experience I have ever had in my entire 49 years of life. I cannot imagine that this manager can continue to get away with this. We will not visit Viva Chicken ever again until she is no longer there and I will escalate this to corporate. I urge anyone else that has been abused by this person, please report it. What a shame! read more

This was my first time at the Viva Chicken at Waverly! We invited some family that was in town and had never been to Viva. We had a party of 9 with 2 kids. We were able to push tables together which was great. One of the employees helped us! We ordered a variety of things and everything was brought out promptly. Great place. We have been traveling to the various Viva Chickens in the Charlotte area. The he Indian Land location is our favorite because you don't have to wait to order and receive food. We seemingly always order the same a quarter chicken and the chicken soup. Both are always great and don't disappoint. I have recently found that the fruit cup or bowl is also very good. Viva Chicken used to be my favorite takeout restaurant but there has been an issue with the food the last several orders. They often just get the order wrong or leave something out, but now in addition to that, the food is getting bad and they are cheating you out of the things you do order. I am done with them! Just your usual Viva Chicken. They have become quite popular around Charlotte and you're sure to wait in a line no matter which one you choose to visit. Especially worth planning ahead at lunch time. There's an array of traditional Peruvian dishes, lots of which are rice/grain based and augmented by beans, veggies and fruit. You can, of course, add rotisserie style chicken to almost anything on the menu. My personal favorite is the stuffed avocado (full order) with chicken on top. I've been known to go overboard with both the yellow and green sauces. I've heard people claim that the green is actually spicier than the red, but I don't mess with the red. Prices are a bit high if you want what I like and if you like to add chicken to your dishes. Without chicken, you can usually get out for under $10 if you just get water. But come on, the chicken being in the name is kinda what makes it here. On the point of drinks, there are beers (including locals) and lots of tea-juice style combos to choose from too. Never mind a few delicious looking desserts strategically placed beside the cash registers. read more

I've been to Viva Chicken several times but this was my first time at this location. We came around 11:15 am and they weren't busy at all. I'm sure if it got closer to 12 it would be packed. We ordered right away and got a booth by the window. I got the 1/4 chicken with the rice and soup. The chicken was so tender and fall off the bone. The rice adds a nice touch to it. This is a remarkable place to experience some of the best chicken I've ever tasted. I'm generally on the go and don't have time to cook always, and I will order online and pick-up in the store (however they offer curbside). All of their ingredients are fresh and well prepared, and I have yet to have a bad meal here. I've never dined-in the restaurant, but many people do and it appears very clean and well maintained. The staff is friendly as well and will accommodate if you need to make any changes to your order after they fact. Like the other locations the menu is the same and all the sauces are there should you decide to need them. The chicken is delicious and the rice - both jasmine and cilantro infused are both yummy. The new Waverly location is noisy . The background music is loud and the ceilings are high which adds even more noise than you'd expect . Great food - excellent service ! This place has become one of our favorites. The menu is filled with healthy options. My usual is the Tacu Bowl, which is rice topped with pulled rotisserie chicken, cilantro, avocado and other great stuff. Three delicious sauces are available self-serve, but be warned, the hot is indeed HOT. The dining room is festive but maybe a bit too loud for some. Service is consistently friendly and attentive, and sanitation score is typically in the high 90's. Have only had good experiences here. read more

I went here last week with my brother, and I had no idea what to expect! When you walk in, you go to the counter and order your meal, and then you get a number and they'll bring it out to you. There are so many things to choose from. The salads that I saw looked huge and delicious, as do the sandwiches! My brother said that he always gets 1/4 chicken with two sides, and since that sounded tasty, I decided to follow suit. (Especially since this way I could try two sides, and we all know the sides are the best part-Am I right??) After we ordered we were lucky enough to find a table. It was hoppin' busy at 7:30pm on a Friday night! Which, I take as a very good sign. Once you've claimed your table, you can go up to the common area to get silverware, napkins, and sauces. There are three types of sauces. One has a red sign, and is hot, so I didn't even try it. Ha! One has a green sign, and it has a lot of herbs in there, maybe cilantro. That one was okay. The last sauce has a yellow sign, and it was good. Definitely the most mild sauce they have, almost more of a creamy sauce. Then we waited, it did take a few minutes longer for the food to arrive than I would've thought, but like I said, they were busy. The food was really good, and I feel like I got a good size portion for the price. The chicken had a lot of seasoning on it, definitely more than just salt and pepper! There are some other herbs there, and it gives it more of a Mediterranean feel. The chicken had a good skin, and my piece was fairly juicy. My cilantro rice was very good! It had good flavor. Lastly, the plantains. I'm a sucker for plantains, because I never see them anywhere. My order came with maybe 4 of them, and they were warm and big and juicy, and just perfection! I placed an online order, got here after 20 min and didn't find my food. I asked the cashier and he said that my order was probably stolen and they were going to prepare a new one.
