My hairdresser Pam just recently moved over to this salon. I like the area as there's lot of shopping places around this business. I swear when I walked inside I've been in this place many years ago. I use to live on this side of town & before I found Pam I was seeing other people for my hair. Gosh it was so long ago I can't even remember who but I really think I've had my hair done in here before....lol I was greeted upon arrival as the receptionists desk is right there when you walk in. There is also a salon station in the front to the right. That must cost mucho bucks to have a spot right up front. The receptionist notified Pam that I had arrived. I was checking out the hair products & sale that they were having on one brand. The area was nice, well organized & clean. Pam shortly came up front to grab me & brought me out back. There was another section in front of the bathrooms with about 3-4 hair stations. Pam had a spot in the back. We were the only ones in there @ first. The place is under construction right now, in the back & there was some nice eye candy to look @ while I was getting my hair foiled. Good, looking middle aged man in a tank top with some nice muscles working on an area......lol He was quiet & kept to himself. Hair station chair was comfy. There was a tiny table for me to set my drink & food on and a hook on the wall to hang my purse on. There was a nice tall mirror to watch everything while getting my hair done & the lighting was on key. The sink bowl was comfy too. Pam really likes the chairs & lighting in here and was so excited to share this with me when I asked her how she liked the new place. Now what I really LOVED is the word search wallpaper in front of the sink bowls. I'm a BIG fan of word search to begin with & I found it fun to try & find words while getting my hair washed. Even Pam played along with me....lol I hit the bathroom on my way out which was nice & clean. Viva Hair Studio was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! I went onto their website and chose to have a women's cut with bleach and tone. I was looking for a transformational change, as a result of some difficult experiences I have navigated through this year. I wanted to go from mid length brown hair to short blonde hair. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The site recommended Lucia. I decided to go with Viva Hair Studio's recommendation.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When getting there, the stylist did a test strand and said only the top of my hair would turn blonde. I was confused because I'd gone from dark brown to blonde a handful of times in my life. Plus, the bottom of my hair was getting cut off. It seemed to be out of her territory with skill set and I didn't want orange hair so I left that alone. I elected to go with just the cut. I showed her a picture of the cut that I wanted. After well over 90 minutes in her chair I was utterly baffled at the lack of experience and how the cut was turning out. I actually began to direct her with how to thin out thick wavy hair to remove the bulk. She clearly had 0 experience. My hair looked nothing lie the cut. I looked like I had a mushroom for hair. Ridiculous! She knew she messed my hair up, and as an attempt to try to make it look decent she tried to curl it. That made it worse, so then she tried to flat iron it. Didn't help. She then wet it and flat ironed it again. [[HIGHLIGHT]]During my 2 hour visit for a 4 inch hair cut, she mentioned people were not nice to her and she'd been spoken to rudely. It was a huge red flag for me. Knowing I was not the first to be hacked by her hands.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I felt compassion for her though (what I'd been through this year taught me a lot) and I knew letting her know I was upset wouldn't help. I literally told her to stop cutting my hair when this sinking feeling became overwhelming. Lucia made a couple last little clips and then.... She asked if I loved it. Not even compassion would let those words out of my mouth! I said it was short and I would get used to it. Thinking it would look better once I got home and washed it. It looks terrible. I felt bad for this stylist who had the look of terror in her eyes as I walked up to the front desk. Lucky for her, I don't have it in me at this point in my life to argue. I wanted to avoid harsh words with the check out lady, so I paid the owed amount, left gratuity and just hoped it would work out a $100 bucks later.... for a terrible cut and two hours of my time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]To add salt to this wound, I sent an email to Viva Hair Studio the next day, feeling pretty upset with the situation. I gave a detailed explanation of my horrible experience and included pictures. A few days went by with no response. I called to verify the email address with Harper, who answered the studio phone on a Saturday morning. She confirmed it was indeed the email for management. Hmm, why did they not reply to me??? No call either. Maybe they are just used to the complaints, so they don't even bother at this point[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. This compelled me to give a review... perhaps save someone else the money, the time, and a terrible hair cut. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I'm pretty curious why this stylist was recommended on their booking site, yet not listed as a stylist under the page for Summerlin stylists??? Was I the guinea pig for a paid audition? I don't know since no one bothered to respond to my email[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. It's obvious to me I cannot trust this studio to put quality experienced stylists on their team, or their booking site. Neither should you. Also, it is apparent they lack the ethics to reply to emails from customers who have a poor experience in their studio. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Bottom line, choose a different studio. I was hesitant to get my highlights done here when I saw the clientele leaving the salon but thought I'd take a chance. The colorist that did my hair was minimally experienced, made a mistake and tried covering it with toner which completely ruined my whole head of hair. Jules, the owner, said she would fix it for me at no charge. My colorist in L.A. said I needed to remove as much toner as possible before "fixing" what was done. After waiting 5 months I drove 40 minutes to get to an early morning appointment with Jules. She then advised me, for starters, it would be $550.00 plus additional money. I normally pay $700 to my L.A. colorist who is amazing, but was shocked that this owner flat out lied to me and said 7 months was too long to wait and that she would have to charge me. I waited 5 months due to having as much toner out of my hair as possible. Bottom line; the hair leaving that salon was not top rate -I should have own better. The owner should have let me know she changed her mind about "making it right" before I drove 40 minutes. After I left I gave it a few days to see how I felt about it and I regret just not taking a loss on the $100 and going back to my original stylist. In the end coming to this salon ended up costing me $700 the two aweful cuts caused my hair to be shorter and still no layers as I wanted, so I had to have buy new hair, to re add back the length that was lost. I did some research to find a Goldwell dye trained stylist and read Becky Rae's bio and decided to try her. I have had some bad sensitivity to hair dyes with terrible itchy scalp. I told her this and she ensured that she would do her best to wash out the dye. She really scrubbed the dye out of my scalp, especially the back which makes a huge difference. She cut about 2 inches off and blew dry my hair straight. She was very meticulous about parting, sectioning, and cutting my hair.
