Heirloom is a well-run establishment. When you see every employee completing tasks with every movement and the owner bussing tables plus talking with patrons, this is a service-oriented business. For my wife's birthday, the service was indeed excellent. The atmosphere is Southern chic. I caution you, don't try a Saturday Evening reservation by calling Friday night. Call early in the week to ensure a Saturday feast. Heirloom sources as much of its ingredients as possible from local farmers and fishermen. It was Happy Hour so I asked what was the "bar bourbon"? Our waitress, Candice, knew exactly what I meant and told me, Evan Williams. An Old Fashion made with Evan Williams for 8 bucks, Yes Ma'am to that. My wife enjoyed a glass of crisp pinot grigio with her meal. Candice service was impeccable the entire experience. We started with Crispy Mushrooms appetizer - awesome. Our entrees were very generous portions. My wife ordered the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes, two large cakes with crispy squash fritters and succotash for the sides, old bay remoulade on the side for the crab cakes. Nothing but crab with very little binder. She loved the entire meal. I enjoyed the Honey Glazed Bone-In Pork Chop with bbq beans and potato salad for sides. The beans needed work, but the potato salad was excellent with big chucks of potato. The pork chop was star though. A huge two-bone affair grilled to perfection. I had to cut it in half and take one half home it was so large. Magnificent. We finished celebrating her birthday by sharing the S'mores Tart for dessert. Graham cracker crust with chocolate ganache layered on top, crowned with sea salt. A toasted marshmallow cream on the side with Happy Birthday written in chocolate on the plate. She was delighted. It was not overwhelming sweet. Fabulous with two cups of decaf coffee to finish. My wife enjoyed the whole experience and definitely wants to come back. She believes Heirloom was the best dining delight we've had in Virginia Beach. I certainly agree.

The servers and staff are observant and focused on small details that really set Heirloom apart. I especially love the part of the dining room filled with lush hanging plants. We visit several times a year and are always impressed by the quality. We always order the She Crab soup and a Wedge Salad as appetizers to share. They are both so good, I'd probably request them as my last meal! The She Crab soup is absolute perfection, creamy and full of lump crab. I will not order She Crab soup anywhere else after trying theirs. The wedge has pickled onions, candied bacon, blue cheese and some kind of marinated or pickled tomato. Paired all together to make the perfect bite. We have tried a lot of the menu, it does rotate around seasonally, but there are some items that are consistent. The burger was absolutely decadent but not overwhelming. I usually order the "secret", not so secret Shrimp dinner that's not on the menu anymore. You get 6 of their amazing fried shrimp, a magical dipping sauce (cant' describe it!), and 2 sides. (see what's their seasonal sides!) Heirloom will remain one of our favorite places in the 757 to celebrate special occasions!

The broth was flat and still had a wine taste to it. When I told the owner, he agreed that the wine taste was overpowering and told me they got a new chef who tried a new recipe and that they will go back to the old recipe. For entrees I got the lamb chops with risotto and she crab soup. The lamb was very tender but the flavor was lacking. It was also luke warm. The she crab soup was good but too salty. The owner also acknowledged that as well. The risotto was okay. Nothing special. My husband got the grilled bronzino and broccolini. I tried some and I liked the taste but he said it could have used more flavor. Broccolini was steamed and I wish they had grilled it instead. The bread pudding was the star of the entire meal. It was made of donuts. It was moist, sweet, and delicious. Drinks: We got a bottle of champagne and two cocktails. Drinks were all very good Service: This is probably why I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 3. The service was very good. First, they called me prior to my reservation and asked if they could pre-chill any wine or champagne for my husband's birthday and I was very appreciative of that. When we got there, our drinks came out a little slow but our waiter comped that immediately. Throughout the night, the owner checked in on us several times and that stood out to me. Overall I will come back once they fix some things with the new chef. Hopefully the food will get better

The wine tasting is still my favorite part of the Cooper's Hawk experience. It never fails me. And Nightjar? That one has my heart. The brandy gives it just enough attitude to remind you that you are, in fact, an adult with excellent taste and nowhere important to be afterward. Once the tasting is over, we usually migrate to the bar, and that menu has quietly collected some serious favorites over the years. My longtime love has always been the shrimp and scallop risotto. The risotto itself is still consistently creamy, rich, and beautifully done. Unfortunately, the seafood portion just isn't what it used to be. The scallops seem to have entered witness protection, and the shrimp are often tiny and a little overcooked. At this point, it sometimes feels like a gorgeous bowl of risotto waiting for its seafood to come home. Maybe toss a little crab in there and restore some dignity to the situation? Just a thought. Thankfully, there are plenty of other winners. The burger is easily a 10/10 for me. The chicken piccata completely surprised me because I am not usually a big piccata person, but Cooper's Hawk somehow won me over. The Parmesan-crusted chicken is simple, familiar, and absolutely phenomenal. The green beans are always tender, the mashed potatoes are divine, and the quesadilla on the bar menu deserves far more attention than a quesadilla has any business demanding. Dessert and I have not spent nearly enough time together here, but I did try the chocolate mousse dessert, and yes -- she was worth meeting. The atmosphere is elegant without feeling stuffy. Depending on how lively the locals are around the bar, it can get a little loud, but that is honestly part of the charm. It always feels warm and welcoming, and somehow I manage to meet new people, make new friends, and then find myself back there celebrating with them later. That may be my favorite thing about Cooper's Hawk. I originally came for the wine and food, but over the years it has become a place tied to people, birthdays, family dinners, friendships, and plenty of "one more tasting and then we'll go" lies. The wine keeps me coming back. The food gives me plenty to love. And the memories make the reservation worth it every time.

Hubby and I were thrilled because one is opening near our home outside of Charlotte, NC. Make reservations! This place was packed and we quickly figured out why. Everything is so good. There are sooooo many unique things that I can't wait to purchase from a location closer to us when it opens; traveling with glass didn't seem too smart. Our server was great and I wish I knew her name to shout her out. Ask to sample any wine you're curious about. And let me say... the sampling pours are more than just a sip. I was astonished! I chose the red flight as rendered. Everything was good. I'm not a fan of Spanish reds and should have substituted that one. Next time! They are so conscientious about food allergies and preferences that you can customize everything (except the jambalaya). I already knew before arriving (because I look at menus ahead of time) that I was getting the scallop and shrimp risotto, especially after I learned I could have it without the disgusting peas and asparagus (but with extra spinach.... I do love some veggies). It was AMAZING and will probably be the dish I always end up getting at the Indian Land, SC location when it opens. No room for dessert so you'll have to read my next review for that. 10/10

STRAWBERRY CRUMB CRÈME BRÛLÉE : for the most part , I tend to stray away from a crème brûlée due to the lack of creativity. HOWEVER, the strawberry crunch crumbs and that dream of a sugar crust. The ambiance was nice, the open kitchen with the wood fire hearth right at the entrance added a warm cozy feel from the onset. The restaurant was warmly lit but not dark. We were seated immediately in the far left dining area in an elevated booth. After reviewing the menu we settled on the fried deviled eggs and wood fire oysters for starters and the Vincent Vega pizza for dinner. Fried deviled eggs was a first for us and it was so good! The egg white was breaded very lightly and fried and the egg yolk was piped on top with a piece of smoky delicious bacon goodness. It had a nice smoky, bacon-y taste and we devoured them. I only wish you got more than 2 pieces. I think 4 pieces would be better for the price considering it's essentially one egg but I'm not complaining. The wood fire oysters was another hit for us, the serving came with 6 half shell oysters topped with breadcrumbs (light), swimming in butter and fire roasted. I think we ate these even faster than the deviled eggs lol! Would definitely get these again. The pizza also did not disappoint. If you like bacon, mushrooms and creamy Boursin cheese, you'll love this pizza. We added crushed red pepper flakes which added a nice kick.
