Just left Viva in Rancho and we will definitely not be back! Came to grab a few items and when attempted to purchase queso fresco... As we approached the counter, two ladies were cleaning (mopping and sweeping). One came to assist wearing her blue cleaning gloves and grabbed the queso with the same gloves on, instead of changing them. Just Fk'n Disgusting and Unsanitary!!! I normally only come here for the fresh tortillas and pan dulce but I wanted to try their meat which ended up being extremely disappointing. I got arrachera marinaded which had absolutely no flavor and tasted like it was bad. I also go some chorizo, extremely bad and looked old. Tried making some tacos with it and it just was disgusting. Terrible experience, on 01/16/2025 around 08:00 pm I came in to purchase some of what they advertise as fresh molcajete Salsa and guacamole for a potluck next day at work. I did taste the salsa it tasted a little bitter but I thought that it was because of the roasted ingredients. I tasted the guacamole it was flavorless, I mentioned it to the lady behind the counter she stated that I could add some more salt and that would give it more flavor. I ended purchasing 2lbs of each since is was late and needed it for next morning for work. I kept them in the refrigerator overnight, took them in an ice chest to work , products were never left at room temperature. Both , the Salsa and the Guacamole were spoiled by the time of the potluck around 09:00 am. I came back the store the next day. A lady by the name of Liliana, I guess she was in-charge at the moment and instead of taking ownership of the bad product they sold me, had very rude and negative attitude accusing me that I left the products at room temperature for a long time and that is whey they spoiled. First off. The employees are pleasant. But this place lacks where it comes to quality and stock. So the one thing the genius my make is the bread pudding in their panaderia. It's incredible. So much so that it sells out. I have gone in at least 8 times, and the head baker (nice guy with shaved head) always tells me "oh it sold out" and follows up with "I'll make today for tomorrow morning!" Ok. So he's said this to me three times and today I go back in after speaking with him yesterday. Guess what? It's not ready. And this is the second time he did that. He then tells the other employee that it will be ready by twelve. I asked if it's setting or if he's just baking it. And it turns out he didn't even make it! Not. Cool. So then they said it would be ready by 11am the latest. I'm sorry. I took you for your word and I came back in the morning. Which I thought it was a sure thing since he said he was going to make it YESTERDAY. Second. The produce is ... not the best. And I know it's hard times with produce but just walking by the produce ... it's questionable. Last. The carnitas. So. This place I used to bank on having amazing carnitas. Now. Not so much. It's mostly fat and you have to direct the employee to get you the meatier pieces. Otherwise they will give you the fattiest pieces. Likely to get rid of it quickly. So. Well this location has had its share of businesses that closed after a while. It sure looks like they are just revamping the shopping center. There is plenty of parking around. And now Viva is here. I noticed the sign on the building said Food Court so I stopped in today to grab something to eat . Decided on the chili rellèño combo and the super burritto. I was skeptical , but after taken the first bite I was blown away by the taste. Yummy!!! The combo was $8.99 & burritto $5.99 In the case they had several soups as well Pozole, Menudo, obrigada . Being that it was super freezing and rainy outside might be something to consider for next time. I noticed a bakery inside. I didnt get a chance to check it out . A lot of the food aisles and produce smell ROTTEN and the packaged bread are rock hard. The staff is a little distant but okay. The shop has a lot of good finds like it's many ice cream containers, fresh baked goods, and meat department (which was very nice but a bit expensive) but i'd be sure to check the expiration date and quality on everything else shipped in you buy. It used to be good. I used to go to the hot food section quite often, I like it. I started going right after they 1st opened. But it as gotten steadily worse. They seem to have the same cooks, so I can only surmise that it is management penny pinching (reusing old food), that is the reason for the bad food. And the prices in the grocery are high. Sure the place is convenient but it's not worth it. When you walk in it smells like terrible B.O and rotten produce or dirty mop water, hard to tell which. The bread usually has flies on it and the staff don't seem to care. When you ask for meat the staff gives you a stank look like they don't want to help you. To pay there is always one person on the register with a long line. They seem to be rude to customers who don't seem to be part of the Afghan community. The place just seems dirty and unkept overall. If I could give zero stars I would. The people that work here are super rude. I'm Mexican and speak Spanish when I walk into Mexican stores, and the woman working at the bakery didn't greet me or have any customer service, yet kept asking me if I was Mexican because I didn't look it. She asked me about my whole family history and compared me to my cousin who was with me, saying she looked more Mexican than me. When I asked for a piece of cake from the display she asked if it was for me and my cousin. Very overpriced. Evrytime I go there is ALWAYS a long line and only one check out open. The Chinese food and Mexican take out is really good, as long as you get it fresh amd buy early in tbe evening. Anytime after 6 and the rice is always dry. Beans are very delicious. Groceries are almost all overpriced and their selection is limited. If you ARE used to shopping at carniceria for most things than this is a one stop shop. I love this place. The Produce is always Fresh, and their Mexican Sweet Bread is the Best!

So glad we found this store! We live in Rosemont but drive over to Viva at least once a week. The produce is good quality for the price, unlike Food Source. They have a bigger selection of Mexican products than other grocers in the area. There's also a pretty big selection of middle eastern and Mediterranean products, and I found huge bag of a Mediterranean spice mix I like for $2 that was $5 for like 1 tablespoon's worth at Whole Foods. There's also at least 3 different areas just for spices! But by far, our favorite is the panadería. The pan dulce is so amazing, and my sister the concha enthusiast agrees that these are some of the best she's ever had. The dough is sweet (vanilla maybe?) but fluffy, even hours after being baked! They're not super consistent with the selection (some days have empanadas others don't), but that's fine. They're still delicious. We also tried some pre-marinated meet from the carnicería. And that was also amazing. All in all, it's a great store. Yes, some things are the same or higher price than at a standard store, but other things are way cheaper. read more
