Rancho has been needing someplace like that for a long time. This iteration of the SF Market chain is in a spiffy new shopping center. It's a nice change to have an attractive new market to go to. The parking lot outside is nice, and is well lit in the evenings. I've noticed that the employees at this store seem friendlier and more inclined to be helpful to customers.

Merchandise was pretty well stocked and there was a good selection of products to choose from. The prepared hot foods seemed to be all "self-serve," much of the fare looked pretty appetizing. Only two of the main check stands were open when I was there, and there was a bit of a wait, but once I got to the register the clerk was friendly and helpful. The prices sure went up too. To fill a regular clam shell box was like $15 now! I wanted some of those deep fried smelts, but they said that was only on the weekends. There weren't any fried chicken drumstick deals either like before. They did have wings though, so I got some of those stuffed into my box, along with some short cut spareribs and a little fried rice. lot of empty trays at the deli. Tasting the box of food, it really wasn't that good either, not like before. I was disappointed. The BBQ pork bun selection was not much, just the steamed ones and no baked ones. I did get some roast duck since I was there. I had them cut it up and put it in two boxes. Over at the bakery, I did see these Portuguese Egg Tarts, they looked similar to the Chinese egg tarts, but more browned on top. They came in a box and I was told they just baked them today. I got one box. I'll say, this 99 Ranch location is much smaller than most of the other locations and the selection at the deli is smaller too, I guess they just don't get the foot traffic like the Bay Area or Sacramento proper. That's how authentic and unique we are talking here. Fermented laphet, both whole and grounded, for tea leaf salad. Cans of pickled vegetables you've never seen before. Condiments. Fried garlic crunch. Instant noodles. More pickles and shrimp cake in the fridge. These are not things you'll find in the nearby major Asian supermarket. And if you find yourself with too much fermented tea leaf at once, well, I have sesame dressing at home, and my go to is noodles dressed with the sesame dressing for a good base flavor, with the laphet added for a twang in the flavor, and cilantro added for freshness. Because they sell laphet by the bag on the shelf, and that's a lot, but they also sell them in packet bundles on the stand near the door, and the packets are super powerful, at least when you're cooking for just a bachelor.

On Monday April 24, 2025 I bought a 20lb bag of flour from Shreyus that I unsuspectingly took home…read moreand poured into the empty container I have for storing flour. Two days later when I opened the container I found insects crawling in it. While that's disgusting, that's not what this review is about though, things like this happen from time to time. This review is actually about how the store chose to handle (or in my case avoid handling the situation and avoid any responsibility or attempt at customer service). For a situation this basic this basic, you would imagine it would be as simple as me bringing back the flour, the store replacing the bag, taking the brand off the shelves and dealing with their supplier. Instead after 4 phone calls back and forth with the store employees over a period of two days trying to wriggle out of the situation e.g. insisting I had to bring back the original bag/packaging (I had thrown away the paper bag after pouring the flour in my container) telling me that the owners would call me (Its been a week).I have decided to cut my losses and not waste any more time with them or this business over a $20 bag of flour. Especially since there are 4 other Indian grocery stores just in Folsom, so after years of patronizing Shreyus it's time for a change. I felt I should write this review as a Pubic Service Announcement: If you bought Sher Atta from this store in the last week, please be careful and inspect your flour, chances are there maybe an issue with the whole batch. Shreyus will obviously not take any responsibility, so watch out for your family's health. I will also report this to the county health department on Monday but I am not sure what they can do in this instance.
