In my research of the Paso Robles area, I came across this cheese shop. My husband and I are cheese lovers and wanted to build our own cheese board for our stay in the area. This is a quaint little cheese shop packed with flavor. The lady at the counter was kind and knowledgeable. She asked what kind of cheeses we enjoy (everything) and began cutting samples of cheese for us to try. We tried a multitude of cheeses including cheddars, Parmesan, blues and Brie. Many cheeses they offer were flavors I have never experienced before. In addition to the fabulous selection of cheese was the service. We came in towards closing (5pm) and they stayed open, with no rush to hurry us out the door. Overall the service and the selection was A+. I am looking forward to eating all of the cheeses we picked up. read more

I sought out this place after falling for a cheese that was served in a wine and cheese pairing. Let it be known that I'm not a huge cheese fan to begin with. However, after tasting several cheeses, discovered there is at least a handful that I genuinely enjoyed. Amy helped my friend and I and expertly suggested cheeses that were suited to each of our tastes. I actually bought 4 cheeses on my own. They are delicious! This is a really nice small cheese shop in the heart of downtown Paso Robles. Came in here on a whim and saw that there was a free cheese tasting if you check in via yelp. Owner gave me a tasting of five different cheese...two goudas...a cheese dusted with espresso and i honestly can't remember the other two cheese....BUT the five year old gouda was just SPECTACULAR. I loved the little calcification crystals on the cheese that gave the cheese a salty touch. I ended up ordering some of the five year gouda and olives to take with me for snacking while wine tasting. I really liked the owner...she was super informative about cheese, wine and Paso Robles in general. Next time we're back in Paso Robles, you can be sure I'll be grabbing some cheese to go here. read more

This place is great. There is a few reviews from earlier dates stating bad service, as a local and someone who frequents the shop often I can say that the employee responsible for said bad service no longer is employed there. Too bad 1 person can ruin what should have been a great experience for others. They have most every cheese you could want, and if they dont they can find it. Plus, they sell some really great snacking meats to right along with your cheese. Keep in mind these are high quality cheeses, some imported, so dont expect to pay Kraft Singles prices. read more

I came here one afternoon looking for a half pound of Velveeta. The last behind the counter (Gina) said they didn't carry it. Uh it's the single most popular cheese in the greater Bakersfield area, how could you not carry it. Nor did they have kraft singles. To top it off, she wouldn't order me any and suggested I just go to Vonn's supermarket up the street. Great place! Courtney was great helping us find the cheeses that appealed to our palate. The aged Gouda and 12 year old aged cheddar are amazing. The coconut cheese is very good. 2 year old Holland Gouda. Definitely cleaned out the tasting plate, the bought a hunk of it to eat on the way to the rest of the wineries. It's now Vihuela's tasting room, so we had some good wine to go with it, but I personally would save the $5 tasting fee and spend it on more cheese. read more

We ordered the wine and cheese tasting. It came with 4 cheeses and 4 wines. We chose to sit outside on a lovely patio. We were helped by two different ladies, neither of whom explained what the wines or cheeses were as they came out to pour. As the second wine was being poured, I asked what kind of wine it was, and the gal read the label of the company who made the wine. She said she was new to the wine business. I wonder what her training entailed. I didn't even bother to ask what the cheese was. You'd think that a business that was selling cheese would care to explain the cheeses that they are selling. In a region that has quickly grown in popularity due to wine, and continues to grow, you must put yourself on the map and stand out among the many other businesses that are doing the exact same thing. This place was completely unremarkable and quite honestly, disgraceful. To not even explain the wine or cheese is lazy, bad business, and offensive to the industry. I will not be coming back at any point nor will I recommend. read more

This place is terrible!!! The owner is rude, acts like she doesn't want people to come in. 2 times in a row we spent over 80 bucks on cheese and were the only people there. They cater, but why have a shop if you don't want customers. Di Rimondos is much better but isn't always open but the people are the best. Great patio but agree with other no explanation. We went in for a tasting but ended up getting the cheese board instead. All of the cheeses were excellent. We also got some kokos which is amazing if you've never tried it (coconut milk and cows milk cheese). The verity is huge and the staff can (and does) explain everything to you, should you need it. We were on our way out west to wine taste then visit Hearst Castle so decided to come here for a picnic lunch to-go. The kind ladies behind the counter suggested the cheese platter and let us use our complimentary cheese tasting (courtesy of Yelp) to sample the five cheeses from the platter - two goudas, a blue cheese, a Brie, and a mild white cheese (can't recall the exact type). They were all excellent and complimented each other very well- so we ordered the platter and added the salami and chorizo. We also ordered the turkey panini. A couple of hours and wineries later, we dug in and were very happy with our selections. The cheese/charcuterie platter would have been plenty for 4 as an appetizer. I was pleasantly surprised by the plentiful honey glazed almonds, dried cranberries and dried apricots. I can't recommend this platter enough, especially if you need a snack while wine tasting in the area. The turkey panini was simple but delicious- perfect for what we needed. The only (very minor) downside was the chips. Perhaps the heat from the panini ruined the crunch and gave them a stale texture. Overall I was very happy with everything. And I have inspiration for the next time I put together a cheese platter myself! read more

If you go here be prepared to get ripped off and have really bad results ! None of them seem to know what they are doing. Great idea but can not deliver! We went on Saturday 7/18/15 to get a cheese and meat to go to eat at a winery . We paid $28 for what I would say was $12 worth ! The cut every thing with their hands no gloves keep touching their hair at one point one girl answered the phone worked the computer then ran her hand though her hair pulled her pants up and went back to cutting our cheese and put it in a container. They charge $2.00 for the addition of 4 olives and $2.00 for each meat add which is four slices ! Yikes Then they put it all in a container "to go" and when you get there you get .... See photo. My suggestion .. Go to albertsins to blocks away and do it yourself !! Not worth it at all !! I give them a year ! read more

My sweetie and I visited this place over Memorial Day weekend and were somewhat disappointed, especially after visiting a winery earlier in the weekend that had such FANTASTIC service. While the cheese was great, we were disappointed with the tasting because our server didn't really offer much of an explanation about the different cheeses. She quickly named everything off that had been put on our plate and told us to ask if we had any questions. The items were listed off so quickly that we couldn't remember everything. While I wouldn't go so far as to give this place a bad review because the cheese was so good, the service was rather perfunctory, especially since we were the only people in the place. read more

What a fun cheese shop. The employees were super friendly. We tasted a variety of excellent cheeses. Much appreciate is that the employees when above and beyond to help us find a local tomato grower open on a Sunday so we could have fresh tomatoes with our burata cheese. I love how they can give you as much or as little as you want. I have to admit that the girl that was serving us was WAYYY nicer than the owner, who had a sour-puss face and then left for the day. Maybe she didn't like that I knew about the yelp deal for a free cheese tasting, maybe you don't post it on line and then people won't come in for freebies. This is a cute place, filled with International goodies. I wanted to pick up sheep cheese for dinner. They had a Gouda we've never tried and sample named Ewphoria. Had a sample of their cheese at Jada Winery- so very good so we visited their shop in Paso Robles. So many cheeses, crackers and fun items. We asked about blue cheeses and they let us sample 4 kinds after opening a brand new package of a special French blue cheese! All so delicious and they were so very helpful and gracious. Nice little cheese shop with an extensive selection. While it can get busy on the weekends, it's a nice place to sample cheese. The owners are really friendly and welcoming. Also, there is a nice patio to sit out and enjoy drinks and food on. I haven't looked at their wine selection or tried any of their cheese platters. Loved this place! Broke up a road trip drive with a stop here. There were 2 lovely, friendly ladies minding the shop and hubby and I ordered the cheese platter. The servings were generous with a delicious combination of cheeses from hard to soft. The accompanying grilled bread was perfect. Would definitely stop here again when in the area. We visited here on our way out of Paso, as we had been to a winery which served their cheeses (Brochelle). We were served by a lady I think was the owner, and she was very nice and very generous with her time and her cheeses. She looked up which cheeses we had tasted at the winery and offered them to us as well as other cheeses she thought we might like. After reading the negative reviews on Yelp I wanted to give this shop some much deserved positive reinforcement. We had a great time and made a purchase which didn't cost an arm and a leg. We would definitely recommend Vivant and plan on returning when we are next in the area. read more
