The technicians here are skilled at their work and they are also very welcoming. The reason I took one start back is because I noticed they rushed their service on my male friend. They probably thought he was a male and thus paid less attention. I feel bad for my friend since it was his first time in the salon. He ended up tipping them really well, and I can tell the lady providing his service felt bad about rushing. Overall our experience fine. A little bit more patience would have made it more completed! read more

I had a generally enjoyable classic pedicure here. I made an appointment and they honored it on time, always a plus. The salon is spacious, new, and clean. There's a vast array of colored polish to choose from, too. My technician did a great job. My only complaint was the bin water was actually cold. She asked me if it was ok, and I was like, no, it's cold. So she added more lukewarm water, and asked how it was. I said it's still cold. So then she added hot water (thanks) and it became sort of warm . I mean, it's March, but it was snowing outside so hot water please!! I will insist on this next time, even if the bin has to be emptied because cold pedi water is a no. However, the cuticle cutting was professional, I enjoyed the foot and leg massage, and the paraffin at the end was a nice touch. The price is kind of high, $32 (more on par with DC pricing) but the pros of the salon outweigh this. I hope to return! read more

Let me start off my mentioning this 3 star review is in regard to price and overall level of individualized pampering I felt during my couple visits to Vivian Nails. Whenever I visit Vivian Nail Spa I make sure to have a coupon (they send you 20% off coupons in the mail for different months). They are certainly a busy salon right across from the Richard Byrd Library. I have to say I do really appreciate their level of cleanliness and sanitation. Their salon is huge and very elegant. I know they also reserve back room pedi stations for pampering parties like bachelorettes, birthdays, etc. which I may just keep in mind for the next birthday! They also have a wide array of color choices. I've gotten a regular pedi here and a gel manicure. I was pleased with both. They do a good job and are very professional. I just felt rushed a little and that they look to tack on $3/$5 add ons any moment they get. I didn't feel as though they took extra time on my pedi or mani. I think that may be the touch they lack, more time and attention to individual customers. Other than that, if you don't mind spending a little extra to walk out with a decent mani but not feeling over the top pampered, this salon is the spot. read more

My daughter and her little girls and her mother in law goes here on a regular basis to get their nails done. So I decided to go there and try it. I went the first time and had Bella. She did a great job. Very meticulous. I went today for the second time and I had made an appointment with her again and saw her 15 minutes earlier than my time I booked for. Again, she did great. My advice to her and her staff, before talking shit about your clients, make sure they don't understand Vietnamese lol. She was complaining why I made an appointment with her, or why I asked for her and blah blah blah. She also complained to her coworkers how my facial expression was and didn't talk. So what? I didn't go there to conversate. So her coworker looked over at me and was like " she looks fine to me" lol. And asked her why she complaining about me. I've been trying to avoid writing this review for a bit now, hoping that over time I'd get over my poor experience here. They're just nails after all. But the feelings have been looming and every time I look at my gel manicure, I am reminded. I'll recount my experience from the beginning - choosing a color. I admit, I am an indecisive person. I take longer than the average person to pick a color, but I won't cut into your service time! I'm typically a gal in the nude, but it was the official start of summer, so I wanted to change up the same ol, same ol. It's also been months since I've been in a salon due to COVID - part of the reason why I didn't want to write a bad review. However, I do feel most of my concerns are constructive. Anyway, I carefully chose a color as the tech worked on my pedicure and let the receptionist know so she could find the color. The color I chose was white with a pink/purple duo chrome finish. The color she brought back was a pink base with yellow gold duochrome. It looked different to me but it was my first time getting a chrome finish so I genuinely didn't know. She went back and forth with me saying that was the one I chose and eventually explained that they ran out of the one I originally chose, but that this one would look really similar. I said okay with doubt in my head, but let them continue, because who knows! I could be wrong. They're the professionals here! Aside from how it ended up looking on my nail (wish I took a photo), my concern was really about the nail tech. There were three occasions where she yelled at me, pulled my hand aggressively to move it and seemed to be taking her stress out on me. I tried to laugh it off and be casual because I didn't want it to be awkward. She tried to laugh with me and expressed that her heart was pounding as she was polishing the third coat because she didn't want to mess up. We laughed, it was fine. We then get to the chrome part and she started panicking in Vietnamese because she didn't know how to use the finish. First, can someone explain to me how a business can carry a product that not everyone is trained to use, but are selling it at a $15 up-charge? Secondly, I knew she was panicking because I can fully understand Vietnamese, something they were unaware of. As she was asking for help from the other techs, she also said that I was difficult and very detailed, so she couldn't mess up. This isn't the first time a nail tech spoke about me in Vietnamese in front of me at this establishment, thinking I didn't understand. I was hoping it was an isolated situation and gave this place another shot. I do want to explain that while yes, I am detailed when it comes to my nails, I am also very polite about letting my nail techs know. If there is something I don't like, I prefer to say so as we are going to save both of us the time of doing it over at the end. They had to do this last time and to save time, she electric filed my nail down. She filed it so thin that she burned me. All because she was unwilling to show me the nails as she was working. So, I'm not upset about what she said, it was mostly true. I'm more upset about the lack of professionalism and respect for the clients as they are sitting in their chair. To continue, the other techs were coaching her through it and I was fine, just waiting because as long as they end up looking nice and lasting, I could move on! She put on the pink with yellow duo chrome, freaked out more and said how hideous it was in Vietnamese. The coat wasn't even and the color was ugly, it just wasn't right, and etc. The other tech says ask her how she likes it. She asks me and I say eh, it looks fine. At this point, I had already been there for two hours. I was just going to paint over it if I hated it. The other tech says in Vietnamese if she's okay with it, then it doesn't matter, let it be ugly. The one working on my nails said no, so they try to find another color and come across a white base with blue/green duochrome. In my head, I'm thinking about the conversation with the receptionist. The other tech steps in since she had more experience with the chrome and says to me in English, see the color you chose isn't good for white, it's only good for black. I chose the nice one for you! And in my head, I'm just like.. I didn't choose this one, your receptionist did... but okay, the color does look way better than what we had earlier, that's what matters. We finally finish up. The total was $86 for a gel manicure, the chrome finish, and a regular pedicure. I tipped as regular and spent a little over a hundred dollars. I took a look at my nails when I stepped outside and noticed that the chrome coat wasn't full coverage and the shape of my thumb and pointer nails were like duck nails... Today, just a over a week later, two nails have peeled and the edges are lifted. I could've let it all go if at the minimum the manicure quality was good and lasted, but here we are. read more

I definitely have found a wonderful nail shop and even recommended this to my mom to switch! Horrible experience today and I will not be returning after a year of going here. I have been seeing Dee mostly on my visits and today I had an appointment for SNS and I ask for oval nails with tip since my nails are really short. All of sudden she acts as if she don't know what I mean. Saying "she has never done tip for me". She couldn't be serious. I said you can go look in your system and see that you have in fact done my nails every time I came here and you have done a tip on my nails with SNS. I needed my nails done prior to my vacation and she was my go to girl now all of sudden it's an issue. If it was an issue I would have like to have known that prior to making the drive all the way from Maryland. I went in without an appt so I wasn't sure if they could do it but they created exactly what I described and had all the right supplies and skills to do so. They also offer ALOT of colors including chrome and designs. All for a reasonable price, they don't over charge. She got up and packed her things and went up to the desk saying we refused to have her service my daughter which wasn't the case. She began to argue in her language with another co worker in front of my child. My child doesn't observe this behavior at home and for it to get done in a nail salon is ridiculous. I I came here a couple of weeks ago and two weeks into my gel manicure and most nails are perfect with the exception of one that chipped. I also moved, packed, and unpacked in these last two weeks. I have been here once, but I really enjoyed my visit. I had a classic pedicure by Don who was patient and not irritated by any questions about my nail color. He also didn't force awkward conversation. Best part was the massage bc of firm pressure. My pedi was followed by a dip manicure and I was serviced by Kim who was very meticulous and also did not try to rush through anything even though it was pretty busy. I showed a pic and she explained that it was not going to look exactly the same (bc I didn't want tips and my nails were not long enough) but she did her best. These are my pink and white nails with ombré, but she showed me different versions of pink and OPI bubble bath is what we agreed on. I am definitely coming back. BTW currently 20% off one service until end of July, and I tried to call to make an appointment but it went straight to voicemail so I just popped in to see if they would take me. read more

Love the Technician but extremely uncomfortable with the front desk lady. Front desk lady was extremely rude and spoke to nail technicians in a way that was unacceptable. DO NOT GET WAXED HERE! I'm so disappointed, because I had been coming here for various nail jobs (dip, acrylic, solar) and pedi, and they are pretty good at those. Sadly, I went for body waxing service and they butchered the job. The wax was way too hot, the strips were clearly too small for the area being done, and after about an hour, she admitted she didn't think she could do it so she called in help, but by then it was too late. She has put oil on the surface and tried to apply more wax on top of the area cleaned with oil. She admitted she could not finish the job, so I had to leave with an incomplete service, and then they tried to charge me for it. It's ok if you cannot do a specific service, but then either do not offer it, or have a properly trained employee and the correct supplies. They have lost me as a customer. read more

I really liked my first visit to this salon. The decor was beautiful, the equipment looked new, the pedicure and manicure chairs were very comfortable. They place bags inside the pedicure bowls which is a bonus in my opinion and they also sterilize all their equipment. I loved their shellac nail polish selections. My service was a shellac manicure and a color change on my toes. The nail tech was prompt and did a great job. As with most salons consistency is key and sometimes it depends on the nail tech you have. I will return. read more

I am updating my review because the management reached out to me and made this right. I went back in today and Tori, the receptionist, was her warm and professional self. Nathan spent a good deal of time answering all of my questions and explaining the difference between the finishes, as well as the services they offer. One client even kindly chimed in and helped with my questions:) She said that she has been going there for years and that every nail tech there is very good. Another nail tech kindly welcomed me as well. I strive to be a kind and fair person; so I have no problem owning up when I've fallen short of that. Being a newbie again to nail culture (after a long hiatus while staying home w/kids & rarely getting nails done), there were several things I was ignorant of. I will list these for any other newbies out there;) *however your nails look when you leave the table is how they will look after they've dried *a French manicure is best with gel polish, which will last you 2 weeks. (The regular polish I got mine in here the first time peeled off in sheets!) *there can be a bit of a language barrier; so if you feel your tech isn't listening to you, don't be shy to make sure they understand your wishes. You should be perfectly happy with your nails! *each finish has a different lifespan and leaving it on longer (even for vacations) will damage nails--no matter what finish you have! Thank you to management and to everyone who went out of their way to get me acclimated and to make things right. This is customer service! I want to be clear that I do highly recommend Kayla and Vivian Nail Spa in general! I look forward to my next visit. Very disappointed with the visit to this location. Thought I was going to be a very relaxing and mind blowing experience. I totally understand it's a Saturday without an an appointment which the wait wasn't the issue. The technician I had was rough as hell on my feet. I was almost unsure if she even wanted to give me the pedicure. I though about telling her to stop so I could leave. I didn't because I really need this done today. Message chair was positioned in a way to were it wasn't relaxing and one of my leg went to sleep. Not a relaxing experience and I will not be return. Salon was very clean and all staff member were active about care of customers. Toes turned out great but my lady had some heavy hands for sure. Don't think this is the nail shop for me. It's been a while since I've visited Vivian, and I think Vivian is out of chances :-(. Today, I saw Dee based on her reviews. My gel nails/coffin-shaped turned out well. However, it was hell getting there. My pedicure left something to be desired. My heels look like they were never touched and my right big toe was cut during the cuticle nipping portion of the pedicure. No antiseptic was applied. She applied a little pressure and kept moving along. My nails turned out well; however, Dee cut my left pointer finger badly with the drill. It didn't bleed, but you could see the bare skin. She only apologized after I started blowing and shaking it. She never stopped, applying gel and the bonding liquid, and drilling away. No antiseptic. Ridiculous! She also proceeded to burn and cut several other fingers with the drill. I think the speed was wayyyy too high! I get my nails done all the time, I've never been burned or cut with a drill like that. To top the entire experience off, my toe nails weren't dry when she finished my nails because she had to apply a second top coat. I wore slides into the nail salon, but they weren't really the ones you can wear out if your nails aren't dry. The manager legit would not let me leave with the pedi sandals LOL. Dee was willing to, but the manager insisted I wear my shoes smh. There isn't a need to revisit. Plenty of salons that compete without issue with far less of hassle or pain. read more

I actually kinda like my nails by Dee. I checked out the salon bc I recently moved close here. I respect her art. But i think my regular salon does a much better job. And I won't be returning here mostly bc of her bad attitude . It really made me feel uncomfortable and like a kid who did something wrong. I don't know maybe bc I'm Asian. Or Maybe I'm over thinking.. either way overall bad experience. She was very bossy, kind of mean, very opinionated and kept denying everything I wanted. I didn't ask for anything crazy. I just asked my nails to be a bit longer and she said she couldn't do it. But I was cool man , I just wanted my nails pretty not my energy attacked lol. I had a perfect experience with Mary, the 2nd time at Vivian's and left with no cuts on my toes, perfect shape, and polish. I would give her 5 stars alone Unfortunately Mary wasn't available for my 3rd visit yesterday. My appointment time ran behind, which was fine. I'm pretty patient. My technician cut my toes on both feet and the top of my right foot, from careless use of the buffer. She applied anticeptic after I started bleeding, more than once, so she was aware of the cuts. Also, a piece in the pedicure bowl came off when she was rinsing my toes which started spraying water up onto my lap leaving my pants and my shoes wet. The same technician did my manicure as well and cut two of my cuticles pretty deep. She was pleasant enough and the polish and shape of both pedicure and manicure were spot on. I understand accidents happen, but I left annoyed and frustrated. I just want a pedicure without being cut up. I'm willing to give it another try, as the cleanliness, close proximity, great receptionist, and the prospect of having an appointment with Mary is what keeps me here. read more

I really enjoyed this salon. It was real easy to make a pedi appointment. Had to fill out a covid waiver form which I'm used to at this point. They had a decent color selection. The nail tech I had, I can't remember her name unfortunately but was very attentive and polite. Made sure to ask if I was comfortable with the water temperature and she was very quick yet precise.
