Vivint Security: $20,000 Wasted - No Video to Give Police During Neighborhood Disturbance (Milwaukee East Side) We live in a very nice neighborhood on Milwaukee's East Side, and after spending about $10,000 per house--totaling around $20,000 across our previous and current homes on Vivint equipment, upgrades, and installations--I'm thoroughly disappointed. Vivint promises reliable security, but their system has failed us repeatedly, especially in situations where footage was critical. Do not choose Vivint--it's been an expensive mistake with no real protection. The most recent example: On a rainy Friday night, disruptive out-of-town kids in a truck caused chaos--screaming, yelling, and it looked like they were trying to run someone over. It woke us and our neighbors. We and several neighbors called the police right away, but by the time officers were contacted, the group had already left, so no one came out. The police did ask if anyone had video footage to help identify or document what happened. We have expensive Vivint cameras (upgraded about a year ago for ~$2,000-$2,500 that time, with cameras around $500 each), which the technician assured us had built-in local recording to capture video even without internet. That promise didn't hold up. We had zero video to share with the police. No clips, no evidence--nothing to assist their follow-up. Support the next morning? Over 2 hours wasted: deleting/reinstalling the app twice, rebuilding the system twice, unplugging the "Space Monkey" (which they claimed I didn't have), and more frustration. These 1-3+ hour troubleshooting sessions happen every time something goes wrong. This is part of an ongoing, costly pattern: * At our previous house, installation damaged our beautiful front door, and cameras went offline constantly. * We upgraded equipment right before moving (part of that ~$10,000 per house total), not knowing we'd buy another home soon after. * In the current house, false alarms trigger randomly (even when disarming as we enter). Once while out of town, it went off; our pet sitter disarmed it--no Vivint response showed up--but they still tried charging us for a "dispatched" service we missed the text about during a concert. * Every suspicious or criminal incident nearby? No usable video because of recurring outages, internet dependencies, and unreliable features. Vivint pushes pricey upsells, overpromises offline/local recording (it still relies heavily on stable WiFi/internet despite what they claim), and delivers slow, aggravating support. The system looks good on paper, but in real life--especially with weather-related internet drops--it fails when you need it most, like when police ask for footage. One last thing they have nobody working in Wisconsin so it's very hard to get a technician unless they're installing new equipment to take your money! I'm reporting this to the Wisconsin Attorney General's office. With ~$20,000 invested and zero peace of mind, avoid Vivint. There are much more dependable security options out there. Poor service. Terrible customer service. Equipment was out of date. Not worth it. I was never able to upgrade my equipment because it was never a service agent in the area. I had to change all batteries my self and do the maintenance myself. When I decided to cancel, all of a sudden new equipment and Lower monthly prices were available to me. read more

This is the worst company. Save your money. Have had this service for about 5 years now and have regretted it since it was first installed. A host of problems with equipment. Customer service is incredibly time consuming and abysmal. Endless trouble shooting over the phone. I cannot stress enough based on my own experience do not go with Vivint. read more

I have had the service for a few years. I got service at a new location, was approved for two times the amount of the equipment costs. My debit card was used, funds deducted immediately. I'm on my 5th call requesting a manager or supervisor who tells me the reversal is approved, then says it takes 5 days. My account continues to be overdrawn and fees are charged. The worst is the funds were deducted at their error. read more

This response from the company is a real joke. The only reason that the company wants to "make nice" is because my problem has been put into words for everyone to see. When this happened I spoke with several customer service people and their only response was literally "too bad". So speaking to another person is not going to change the situation. I will see the contract to completion and never renew with this company. They are crooks as far as I'm concerned. I advise everyone to think twice about selecting this company for their home security. By the way they offer police response to alarms but this is not true; an unarmed security guard responds. I feel so stupid for falling for this this scam. And really ANGRY! I wish I would have been smart enough to research before we signed. Sales sleeze comes on Saturday night and install starts Saturday night. It got so late that we asked to come back, which he did the following Tuesday. Sales guy told us that if we were unhappy within 7 days they would come take the equipment and we wouldn't be out anything. We couldn't get anyone to talk to us within 7 days and the sales guy's phone number belonged to someone else. We are VERY UNHAPPY! The thermostat did not work correctly - would not allow AC to be controlled. My husband had to reinstall our thermostat. The door does not lock. We can't figure out which light is supposed to turn on in the kitchen. I can't believe we fell for the "We're not selling here until next month, we'll give you all this stuff and you tell people how much you like it - but you have to pay for monitoring." Now we are told we had to cancel in 3 days. I did find documentation in the back of a booklet of this, but was going with what the salesperson said. (Stupid me.) Now, we are locked into a 4 year contract. My husband did sign something to this effect, but we were not given a copy of this. A $4000 mistake! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. The worse company I've ever dealt with. For a solid year they monitored the wrong house!! Then when I was told I'd get a discount I was forced to sign another contract to continue service I could not get out of anyway because of a previous contract. Terrible!! read more

This is the worst purchase I have ever made from the worst company I've ever dealt with. Misrepresented what they do in so many ways including the sales rep saying we had 30 days to return when it was only 15. Bottom line: out $1,200 and own equipment that is of no use. read more

Horrible customer service! Half the time the equipment fails and to get a technician to come out is almost impossible!

Horrible! My sister used this system and her system malfunctioned causing the box to explode and flames to ignite in her home! This caused the fire department and med unit to come out. And when she called to get someone out to her home to fix the equipment, the response was she will get a call in 12 hours! Seriously! read more

High-pressure salesman comes to the house and doesn't leave until you have to forcefully insist he leaves. Huge mistake letting this guy in. It was a totally unpleasant and uncomfortable experience when Trevor came around the house. Someone in our household made the mistake of letting this guy inside and boy did we regret it! He tried every piece of salesman-psychology to stick around and close a deal even though we told him half-a-dozen times that we were NOT going to be buying anything from him. At one time he'd tell us that he wasn't trying to scare us and the very next moment he'd play out scenarios of someone breaking into the home, circumventing our current alarm system, and then stealing valuables from the home. He also had a way of framing questions so that the only answer you'd want to give him was 'Yes' or give some other answer that he was looking for. If he were to ask whether or not you found his salesmanship to be "high-pressure", most people would respond "no" because they would not wish to be rude. I, on the other hand, had no problem telling him that he was. It was funny because as I had been listening to him go on I had gone on the internet and found reviews on Vivint which have described multiple complaints of high-pressure salesmanship that had been filed with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). There I was, listening to it all in real-time. He was also rude and cocky. Laughed at his own jokes. Did some name-dropping of the neighbors that he'd apparently sucked into his whirlpool of fast talking and inexhaustible circling. When it was apparent that he was exasperating my parents I stood up and had asked him to leave. When I had walked over to him to shake his hand and lead him out the door he actually had the nerve to disregard me by saying that he wasn't there to "deal with the kids" but is only there to negotiate with the head-of-household. I'm 30 years old! Who do this guy think he is? He thinks he can undermine me and appeal to my 70-some year-old father instead. I've no doubt that this Trevor character is likely to come back to the house to continue his "pitch" when he doesn't see my car in the driveway. I'd really like to go down to his office and make a complaint but there are two things that will make this difficult. He did not have a business card. He said that he ran out but I sense that this is an intentional tactic intended to keep "potential customers" from being able to put him off before he can even get inside the doorway. He might know that if we were to ask for a business card it's likely only meant to put him off so that we don't have to deal with him anymore. Since we don't have a card or a direct number he now has an excuse to come back again and continue his tiring charade! Also, when I go on the internet I COULD NOT FIND A BUSINESS ADDRESS WITHIN MILWAUKEE. I'd like to go to their place-of-business and let staff and the manager know just how much they are not appreciated. I get the feeling, however, that high-pressure-salesmen work best when there is a minimal amount of accountability. It was 8:00 on a Saturday evening and all we wanted to do was relax but this guy thought that what we wanted was to listen to his spiel when all we wanted to do was relax and enjoy our weekend evening. He would NOT STOP! When it appeared that he was finally getting ready to leave he found some more reasons to stay. There is no real way you can be nice to this guy because he will take advantage of it. He had used our good manners against us. You will need to be direct and forceful to get rid of him or, better yet, DO NOT LET THESE PEOPLE INTO YOUR HOME!!! read more

I do not recommend them to anyone, I had my service less than a month and all three of my cameras continue to not properly work I had called several times about this and they said they would send a tech out, which a tech never showed up which was two weeks ago and now a tech can't come until next week so I'm paying for equipement that continues to not work. My car got broken into while one of the cameras was suppose to be recording. My account got charged fees that I was not suppose to get charged. When you call to speak with someone they don't help solve the issue. They don't care about making the customer happy and keeping a good reputation. The equipment would be awesome if it worked properly. I told the market guy when he first signed me up that I would only be able to pay the bill a certain day of the month and he told me he was able to push it through, but that was a lie funds were drawn out my account before that and they told me it was nothing they could do about it. You get stuck in their contract even if they not holding up to their end and they don't seem to care as long as they get your money. I'm a single mom and I got the system to feel more safe because someone kept breaking into my car and garage and I'm paying all this money to not still feel safe. All I got to say is RIP OFF, save yourself the time, money and headache of dealing with ViVint its not worth it in the end. Everything that sounds good is not good! read more

Vivint does have cutting edge technology that helps makes you feel secure but they way they treat their customers after they have you hook line and sinker, they treat you like dirt on the floor. One of the worst things that could happen to a person as far as work related is to lose your house. Due to previously being unemployed for 5 months and recently getting the job that paid a lot less than I had made before, I was not able to keep my house. When the rep came to MY doorstep and I explained that I wouldn't be able to afford the plan he kept forcing it on me. I said I couldn't afford it. He then said he'd give me a few months free. I told him I still wasn't comfortable with it. He kept pressing me and taking advantage of me living by myself as a female. I was also told if I worse came to worse and I couldn't afford my house that the company would work with me. That is far from the truth! I told them I had to sell my house because I couldn't afford it anymore and they said I was locked into my contract. They could cut the contract if they wanted to but wouldn't. I feel used and lied to. I would NEVER recommend this security system company to anyone unless they can predict the future and know they won't move for at least 4 years. Fed a bunch of lies and feel taken advantage of a terrible situation. If I could give the company no stars I would. read more
