I've had Vivint Solar for 2 years now and just received a "True Up" bill from Southern California Edison (SCE) for $692 and was blown away. I immediately called Vivint and requested an explanation. After numerous promises that I would be called back that never happened I requested a supervisor to help me. She made several promises to return my phones calls but was inconsistent as well. She asked that I send her 2 years of SCE statements (which I immediately did) and they would review it for compensation purposes. Come to find out that a large portion of my solar panels had not been working for almost 1 year however I continue to pay Vivint each month at about the same normal rate. They would only offer me a $120 credit towards the issue. The service department came by this morning and stated, "This is a much larger problem then we realized" and that they'd have to reschedule. It's very obvious at this point that Vivint does not care about me or my situation. They only care about about getting rid of me as a problem. Unbelievable! read more

Our reps name is Warren, and he worked with our friends who had solar installed on their home last month and they absolutely love it! They are producing 30% more than what they were originally quoted for production. We started our journey a month ago and our panels are scheduled to be installed within the next week. My experience with this company has been nothing but great. read more

I only review businesses if I really like them or if I feel it necessary to warn people away. I had Vivint solar install panels on 5 of my properties on North Shore last year. Overall everything went as they said it would except that on two of the properties their installers totally missed the beams and put unsightly lag bolts through at the wrong spots which then had to be redone. One one of the properties they caused serious leaks which caused the plaster on my ceiling to fall down and I had to have the house re-roofed. They did cover the cost of the re-roofing, but they still have not arranged a reputable vendor to come and repair the interior ceiling. In fact, they made me find the roofing company to fix the leak they created. So, more than 1 year later my ceiling/roof is still not what it was before the installation and they never respond timely to my inquires about what is going on. On the flip side, if you do not have a lot of $$$ to buy a solar system and then get a tax credit (most people don't) then their 20 year energy option isn't the worst...especially for someone like me with oceanfront rentals. The salt air in Hawaii wreaks havoc on solar systems so I never wanted to actually buy and pay for maintenance of a system. With Vivint I paid no money up-front and this year I already saved over $20,000 on my electric bill from 2014 for all my rental properties. The savings is the only positive thing I can say about the experience. The rest of it...their customer service and their lack of professional vendors is a serious problem so buyer beware. If I had to do it over again I probably would have just paid the additional $20k this year and saved myself all the leaks. read more

I'm unhappy with my service with vivint solar. The sale rep said one thing to us and after we got our first couple bills vivint solar is trying to screw us. How can to tell a customer you will only pay for what you use and when you get your bills you now pay for what youre producing. The sun is free so how can I pay for something that is free. Vivant Solar customer service needs work! Received a county notice that one-year follow inspection is incomplete, Vivant claims inspections are up to date. Took me several calls to Vivant and VM messages (with expressed irritation) to get through to inspection dept. I asked them to send my drawings so I can have the inspection done anyway since I am obligated to comply with my county or face violations. Have not received plans and do not have them in my files. This is still unresolved and once again my calls are not being returned. Cannot recommend at this point, there are many other solar companies out there. read more

Not liking this company. Many promises, most broken. The main one that concerns me is that we have no way of monitoring what the system is doing. I just read too that we are charged for what the panels produce, not what we use. Wow, does that make sense? It seems that we are saving some money, not much. My brother who runs his AC a lot has not been home a lot. And yet the Vivent bill went up!! It seems everything about this company screams "Cheat!" I initially signed up with Vivant solar because they promise cheaper energy and "outstanding customer service". However, since signing a contract with them back in Oct 2014, all I can say is everything they promise their consumers is anything but. Below is a list of problems I have encountered that many other consumers may want to consider before even thinking about choosing this company. 1st- it took 5+ installation dates OVER THE COURSE OF 8 MONTHS! (which is a lot more then they say it will take when signing up with them). 2nd- Now that I am activated with them- there wifi signal is terrible between the meter and system - and after over a month still has yet to be rectified. This is BAD for the customer because when their wifi signal is down they "estimate" system production in which they over charge the consumers!!!! 2A----and this " consumer maintenance free" system they "brag" about is also anything but as they initially tried having me work and solve the issue to a system I know nothing about. After my first attempt failed I have only been ignored in my emails and phone calls. My systems wifi has been down since June 22 with only 1 person have been in contact with me since. I keep getting promises they will call back but never do. 3rd- opposite what my sales rep told me....the KwH overage your system produces DOES NOT get credited in KwH with your utility provider for "bad months".....in fact it is quite the opposite. I am paying 10.5 cents per KwH.....and in my months since being a customer I average about 500 unused KwH per month that I am paying for but am not using....HOWEVER, instead of those 500 KwH being stored on my utility account for when the system has a bad month due to weather, I end up getting a monetary credit of only 1.6 cents per KWH.....that's right- I'm paying 10.5 cents for unused kilowatts and only getting 1.6 cents per in return.....add that up with my monthly average of 500 and I'm loosing over $40 per month! UPDATE Vivint over the past few months has been very helpful. They fully 100% reimburse me on a month to month basis on energy I paid for that I am not using. So if I am paying 10 cents per Kwh and only getting reimbursed 2 cents by National Grid, they reimburse me the addition 8 cents per KwH. They have promised to continue this until new legislature comes into effect in which local suppliers the energy is going to has to reimburse the full rate (i.e National Grid, Nstar etc..). I am so disgusted with this company and way it is run. It rips off customers without blinking, and is nearly impossible to actually have any coherent contact and discussion with. We bought our first house of our lives rather 'late' in life, and the house had an already installed Vivant system which we had to assume the contract for for the next 20 years. Our house, as well as multiple other houses in our neighborhood is way 'over paneled' and our electric bill, when our payment to vivant is factored in is almost twice what it should be. The price of Kwh has dropped considerably for HEI customers, but Vivant will not adjust down to make it equitable for their customers. The 'credits' we build up are so high thata we use a small fraction of them over the course of a year, so the 'savings' from them is minimal and only applies to a couple months out of the year. We pay about $1000 more per year than we would if we just were normal HEI customers. Vivant will not remove panels, and in fact is nearly impossible to have meaningful contact with. Blatant, non caring rip off. It is our fault for buying into it, I understand that, but the house was the only one we could afford, so we pretty much went forward. Everything about the house is great except this company, and we are stuck with it for a looonnnggg time. Our advice, if you care to listen and learn from it is: Do not support this company through their solar or home protection systems, because they care nothing for the welfare of their customers. This is a great system for people with rental properties or those who don't have $20000 to buy their own system. My sales rep James made the whole process extremely easy. He was able take care of any paper work that I was either having trouble with due to my HOA or too busy to do myself. With electricity costs that are almost half of what HECO charges and nothing down, you can't go wrong with this system. read more

I've had Vivint Solar for a couple months now. When my husband originally told me about them, I was very skeptical. Only because it just sounded too good to be true. Well I was right! When we signed up (mostly against my better judgement. I only did it because my husband was so adamant about it) we were told that if anything was wrong about with our panels (like they were not working) Vivint would be monitoring them so they would catch the error and let us know. Well...our panels were down for more than half the month of October and nobody called to notify us. It wasn't until we got a bill from HECO for almost $500 that Vivint realized the panels were not working. So not only did we have a Vivint bill of $187 but now we also had a bill from HECO for $500. I was not having this! I called Vivint and spoke to Angel, who was very polite and apologized over and over again and said she would look in to this. She called me back to let me know that our panels were off from the 9th to the 31st. She didn't know why. But proceeded to tell me that "They are working perfectly now!" I told her that they needed to do something about my HECO bill because if the panels were working properly, we wouldn't have this huge bill. I was told that they would credit me back the $187, which btw is also pretty high for 9 days. Call me greedy or whatever but I wanted more! It just doesn't sit right with me that we got stuck with a huge electricity bill because their panels malfunctioned. And I told her that and also asked to speak to a supervisor. She placed me on hold for 8 mins (per my cell phone) and then finally Brittany picked up. Brittany immediately started spitting numbers at me talking about kilowatts and a whole bunch of stuff I didn't understand then finally tells me that my HECO bill was high because of the amount of electricity you used and since your panels were off it falls to HECO. Duh!! I know that! That's the whole reason I'm calling. Because your panels were not working correctly, we were forced to have to use electricity from HECO! And if you panels were working...our HECO bill wouldn't have been this large. Brittany told me that "They are not responsible for my HECO bill". I then replied with "Yes you are! It's your fault that my bill is so high!" She just said there was nothing they could do about HECO. And that they will credit me my $187. I told her that I appreciate that but that I can pay the $187. I need them to cover the HECO bill because thats what my issue is about. I stressed again that if it weren't for their system (which might I mention...I still don't know why it was down. They never told me even though I asked multiple times) Brittany said that she would submit my complaint to "higher ups" and I asked is someone would be calling me back regarding that and she said "Ummmm sometimes" I told her that I wanted to have someone call me back. This is just not sitting well with me. What I want is for Vivint to acknowledge their error and take care of some of my HECO bill. I even said that I didn't want them to pay the whole thing but at least a portion of it. IT just doesn't seem fare to me that I have to pay for their mistake. And the worse thing about the whole situation is I can't go back to HECO because we're stuck in a contract for 20 years! And if I want to break the contract, then I'll have to buy the panels out right. Never letting my husband do anything anymore.... read more

I had this company install solar a year ago on my home. it is yet to work. after numerous technicians, many phone calls and e-mails i still do not have a working solar system. The customer service is the worst i have ever experienced and no one seems to be interested in getting the equipment they installed working. I even had to call the BBB to get them to come out and supposedly install their equipment correctly after a year of trying. it worked for a week then their meter was fried as the last of many technicians did not seal the box it was plugged into and the rain fried the box and outlet. Next step is a lawyer to remove the system as it has produced me nothing and caused me many hours of grief, valuable time and money. read more

VIVINT SOLAR COMPANY IS SCAM. BE WARE!  READ THE FINE PRINT!!!      Vivint solar is the worst company to go with. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE SIGNING UP WITH VIVNT SOLAR. This company is not customer service based. They are greedy and and won't budge even if they are unethical. The customer is not always right with vivint solar. The property we were living on got sold, the new buyer is not signing the transfer papers to make him responsible for the bills, VIVINT SOLAR acts like it's not their problem....I have been paying the new buyers bills for 6 months. We have been trying to avoid spending the money on a lawyer to resolve this. Vivint has informed me today that if the buyer doesn't respond or sign transfer in 30 days then VIVINT IS CANCELLING THE TRANSFER ENTIRELY.  Meaning that the buyer won't be transferring services to his name at all, meaning that I will be paying for someone else's solar power bill and that's all just supposed to be ok????!!!!!???  I don't think so! Talk about a company LACKING ETHICS. They obviously don't care how they look to their customers as long as they get paid. I have had problems with vivint customer service since day one. They ARE NOT a customer based company. They are only looking out for them. We even said we would be happy to transfer panels to our new home and continue service with them. NOPE. The only way to remove panels from old property is if we pay almost $40,000 to buy them outright. They have me and my family who just purchased a home with a large mortgage and bills in one of the most expensive places to live (Hawaii) stuck in an impossible situation. They act like their hands are tied but they have all the power. Ontop of the buyer being a douche bag for thinking he'll just let someone else pay the bill. Vivint solar is a very poorly run establishment with very questionable values and ethics when it comes to dealing with their customers. I have paid $950 to them to just try and keep the peace being that it is in my husbands name and so is our mortgage so bad credit wouldn't be good. This is not right any way you look at it and vivint is standing behind their contract. I was verbally informed when the guy came out to set us up, I specifically asked him if we moved would moving the panels be a problem and he said "HE SAID NO". It's SCAM. it's all about getting as many people to sign up, ITS ALL ABOUT QUANTITY NOT QUALITY WITH VIVNT. They are banking on people not being informed or reading the small print and then holding them to the contract no matter what....even if you don't reside on the property with the panels you can still be forced to pay the bill without vivint lifting a finger to make the buyer sign the transfer documents. These guys don't know what they are doing when working with municipalities. Apparently a date on a piece of paper has been the difference between our system being activated over the last 6 months. They tell you not to look at one star reviews because they've since evolved and gotten everything figured out regarding activation. Not true, they don't and they won't. They ask for 5 star ratings after they install the panels, not 8 months after when they still can't get the energy municipality to allow activation. We are in the process of selling our house and cannot get any help from this group. They kick the can, it shouldn't be more than two weeks and it'll be ready, two weeks... then they fallback on the contract to try and bully you. Absolutely terrible, don't listen to there happy go lucky everything is great now salespeople. They spew garbage. read more

I am very disappointed in their service. They dropped the ball. I slipped through their cracks after they came out and put eye bolts (or something like that) in my roof. After waiting for a phone call for 6 weeks I finally called them, oh so sorry no one got back with you. You will need to update your electrical panel and then give us a call back. Someone could have told me that before they wasted all my time and had a guy up on the roof and put bolts up there. I would not recommend their customer service at all and as far as their product I can only say I wouldn't buy since they dropped the ball once on me. In today's multiple solar companies, it was very difficult who to chose from. My sister recommended Vivint Solar. I called one of their sales rep, James B. In less than 24hrs, James called me and explained everything to me. I like the fact that I didn't have to put down any $$$ and it's maintenance free for 20 yrs! Solar panels were installed in my house one week later...it's that simple! Immediately after installation we were left with power surges. We emailed and called Vivint Solar to please come out and investigate. This took over 5 days. The person they sent out was not a licensed contractor and was checking our GFCI's for faulty electrical. Had no idea what he was doing. We had power outages for 3 weeks and for 5 to 8 hours at a time. Food went bad, the salesperson didn't do anything to help and refused to give out his manager's information. When a third party electrician finally came out he told us that Vivint had somehow either not tightened the main lug in our electrical box or they damaged it. He said we were lucky a fire hadn't started because it had been "arcing" and all of our breakers had been "fried". They took another few days to replace the electrical box. In doing so they had to break out quite a bit of our stucco. The stucco was new and I gave them the exact color code to fix it. They failed again, it's been 6 months and the stucco color and texture is a complete epic fail. The "account manager" claims she has contacted somebody to come fix it but it's been months now. read more

Everything is good for the first couple years, if you're lucky. If your internet connection to the solar is not working, they will still charge you. My salesman Garrett lied to me about the billing process. You are billed on what you produce not what you use. How crazy is that. If you think your bill will go down, forget it. My bill is higher, and the summer long days are just starting. They own you for 20 years, and if you want to buy out, it is at three times the going rate. They are prying on elderly people also. Like most, I was skeptic when first hearing about VIVINT Solar especially since EVERYTHING is FREE and I am not one to just sign up for anything! However, Jeff Sorensen (Honolulu sales rep now BI/Kona manager) was AWESOME and VIVINT Solar was the smartest thing that my family ever did! Not only did it save us lots of money every month, but it was FREE! My relatives also signed with VIVINT and they are all saving money!! Jeff came through from day one on everything that he said and still continues to come through on questions, concerns and follows through! VIVINT Solar is the way to go! Highly Reccommended (Especially for those looking to save money and dont have 30-50K just lying around.) read more

They came to my house trying to sell solar but i didn't want to lease but I end up going with there alarm system because I like there product but after being blind sided by there false sales pitch I went out and reviewed vivint as a company and they had the worst reviews and countless complaints in the Better Business Bureau and yelp review of them from other states were just awful. So I decide to cancel my service within the free trial period. Now a month later they just sent me a bill for 107.80. Now they are charging me for my free trial and making my pay an activation fee. This company only cares about the money and not the customer stay away and do your research first before jumping head first without any information. read more

We've signed up with Vivint a year ago. For us, our bill used to be over $400.00 but now it is under $200.00. The tax credits were not an issue because we would not have been able to use them. For us this was the best way to go. read more

Do not get Vivint Solar Panels ever! If you are purchasing a home that already has them installed, BEWARE- you will be forced into signing a "Power Lease Agreement" which is the biggest scam ever- you will never own these panels, but will pay for the power your panels are producing for 20 years when you can renew another contract.If you are buying a house that they are installed, I suggest you negotiate to take off the purchase price from the asking price. I wish I did. Vivint will not take the panels down but will tell you that you can purchase them. I bought our house without understanding what their contract meant and was told to transfer the existing contract from the previous owner, and now I am stuck. The previous owner installed who way too many panels installed so I am paying for power I don't use. I have had several incidents that the power to the panels trips the main circuit to the panels and the company still charges me for a guesstimated usage. I have to track them down because they don't monitor when they stop working, then it takes forever to have someone come to repair the problem while I keep getting billed. Especially if you live in Hawaii, BEWARE- they do not have people here all the time to service the panels and it takes a long time for them to set up an electrician to come. read more

Horrible customer service! They may be 24 hours, but their reps could use a class (or two) on dealing with their customers. After installing the solar panels, I was told I would see a decrease in my HECO bills. NOPE! I'm still paying practically the same amount. I checked with the other people around my neighborhood and some friends who also go through Vivint. They are paying way less than we are. I understand that each household is different - usage, location, etc. I understand that. I also understand that I pay for what solar energy the panels produce. However, there was virtually no reduction in our HECO bill. My husband and I have called customer service and all they tell me is that I am paying for whatever extra electricity I am using over the amount our panels are producing. I again explained it to them that we understood, but in the end I just wanted someone to be sent to the house to check on our system again. I had an agent say he would get back to us and of course he NEVER called back. Another agent, who finally agreed to have someone come to the house, said before hanging up, "they will tell you the same thing!" JERKS!!! read more

If there were negative 10000000 stars I would give them that. They are quite possibly one of the most haunting and annoying things to come into my life. I don't have long to post the THOUSANDS of things that have happened since I started with them so I will describe in short detail. I signed up in July of 2012, yes, almost THREE years ago!!!!!!! And I have still not been connected to solar. I've called literally about 100 times wondering where in the world did vivant go? I live in Honolulu so maybe they got heat stroke and went back to cooler climates? Whatever the reason Vivant is HORRIBLE with following up and customer service. ALso, because I live on Hawaiian Homestead Land they have FAILED to get permits to go ahead and put panels up on homes that are leased through DHL. Wait, it gets worse!! Now I am in violation with Hawaiian Homes because I "don't exist" in their records as ever getting solar! Vivant did not even process permits or papers with DHL to let them know I was leasing solar. All of these things they should have gotten in place before coming to the islands a few years ago. They pretty much knocked on my door, smiled and said we could save on our electric bill by switching to solar with putting nothing down. Within a week they were up on my roof taking measurements and within a week after that my solar panels were up. They flew out of the cage like a bat out of hell (maybe where they actually came from) and then literally disappeared! We called and called got put on hold for hours and hours and switched over to the wrong department. Not even their managers know what their doing and NEVER EVER EVER EVER get back to me when they say they are going to call me. After almost THREE years of waiting for my solar to get connected I am going put them back into that cage they came from and search for a company that will truly care about homeowners and getting their quality of life to a better place by not paying the ridiculous HECO bills. Mind I tell you that I just found out that there is NO ONE here on the islands that represents Vivant and the guy who can actually get stuff done flies in only a few times a year!! Writing this almost makes me cry. How could Vivant be so careless and irresponsible. Hawaii solar companies I am officially shopping looking for your business if you are willing to come take off their panels and put yours on for no extra cost. I've already lost too much money with vivant. I am not one to bad mouth anyone but my goodness this has got to stop! read more

I recently moved to the Island and was bombarded with door-to-door sales people wanting me to buy their alarm systems, solar panels, vacuums etc. The information being provided was overwhelming. I was approached by a rep from Vivint for an alarm, never a solar system, but it appears that this site also deals with the alarm side. They were one of three companies that we talked to. Even after making our decision and having another alarm system installed, I still answered my ringing doorbell to a Vivint salesperson (same person who initially talked to us). I guess they didn't see the "NO SOLICITING" sign that is attached to the doorbell. When I opened the door, I was quickly informed that although they saw the signs from the company that we went with in the windows and in the flower bed, I could still have it taken out if I was in the 3-day grace period. Um, no. I just sat at home having people drill into my walls. Not gonna take it out now. I just logged into YELP to write a review for the alarm company that we went with and decided to check out this company as well (yes, they had that much of an impact on me). I wasn't going to write a review because I never used their services BUT after reading the reviews, I am glad I didn't. It seems that others have had issues with Customer Service. Did you see that it took almost a year for their C.S. rep to reply to a review? I feel confident in the decision we made. read more

We got our solar panels in November of 2015 and we were pretty excited to save some money. They didn't start working until March and we liked that we were only spending 85$ a month on power. That is until summer came and we started paying the power company also. When we averaged it out we were paying about the same as we were paying before we got solar. And then came the slap in the face. We needed to put our house up for sale, thinking the Solar could be a nice selling point. However, we soon found out it was the worst choice we EVER made. Nobody wanted to take over the lease, there was a lien on our house and when we finally ended up selling our home we had to decrease it by $10,000 and provide many concessions before the buyers were happy. We probably lost around $15,000 all together. Our sales person was very nice and gave us some good information (all the benefits), but he did not provide us with the risky information. He sounded like selling our home with the solar panels would be a breeze. Not so. At. All. We should have read the fine print better for sure. Vivint was also not helpful during the transfer process, although after several phone calls and using all of my cell phone minutes, they came through in the end. I am not convinced this is over since I still got a bill from them last month. We will see. read more
