I was surprised - but it all made sense when after adopting my cat I had to take her in for a nearly $7,000 emergency surgery. Our new cat had what appeared to be a piece of a toy causing a blockage. At this point I knew it wasn't anything from home. I reached out to the Woonsocket Cat Sanctuary to see if they were aware of the issue, or could recognize the toy. They were very standoffish about this, and avoided my questions. I then asked if they were able to share a gofundme to help us pay for the medical bills, they refused as it was "against policy". In the case of adopting a sick cat by accident they will not be any help or provide any support.

We assumed that "priority" meant we would have an opportunity to choose from the kittens available, especially after such a long wait. That was not the case. The breeder would not allow us to visit or meet the litter, and she was adamant that she would choose our kitten for us based on personality. We sent photos and clearly explained the calm, affectionate temperament we were looking for. Since we could not meet the kittens ourselves, we trusted her judgment. On the day we brought our kitten home, we were told she was one of the most vocal of the litter and more stressed than the others, essentially the opposite of the temperament we had requested. Five years later, she remains very anxious and does not have what we understand to be the typical relaxed, affectionate Ragdoll temperament. She has also had ongoing issues since we brought her home. We were left feeling as though we had been given the smallest or least suitable kitten in the litter, despite paying a premium price and waiting so long. Our concerns were repeatedly dismissed, and we were told she was not only a great personality match but also "competition grade." Over time, we came to feel that this description did not match what we received, including her uneven markings. We truly love our cat and cannot imagine life without her. This review is not about her. It is about the breeder's process, lack of transparency, and the feeling that what we received was not what we waited and paid for. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this breeder.

I worked three jobs and volunteered every Friday morning and whenever else they called me to come in to scoop litter. The cages are not the cleanest and are actually sorta cramped. There are TOO many cats for the size of the place. One time they took a cat who was positive for FIV (Feline Aids) and had it in a cage squished between all of the other cages! They put blankets to isolate it but it seemed way too cramped and dangerous to me! Obviously the place is run by volunteers. I congratulate them for trying to help the cats in need. Cats need all the help they can get and I am happy this place exists. Whenever someone is looking for a cat I tell them to go here. The only problem is, the owner is the biggest asshole on the planet. Every time I tried to adopt a cat she would make up a reason it couldn't leave the shelter, even going so far as to take one of the completely healthy cats to her house! I filled out an application, brought in the $100, brought in references for one cat. When my boyfriend and I came in she harshly said the cat isn't even ready to be adopted and that I had been turned down by whatever authority looks over the papers. But I know it was just HER! She said her reason was that my mom had brought a bird back to PetCo one time and claimed I'd do the same to a cat. It was ridiculous. I argued with her because I was so hurt. I had been looking forward to adopting the cat for a month and my boyfriend and I had gotten the house ready for him. My boyfriend is a dog handler and a very kind person. I have owned cats before and love them with all my heart. But she still turned me down and said I was unfit to own a cat! That was 2 years ago and to this day I still remember it. Very offensive, rude, pushy and she can't take care of that amount of cats. One even escaped into the ceiling. I knew how to get the cat to come out and she wouldn't let me do it my way so the cat stayed up there for a week. Make sure you're 30+ years old when adopting cats or she'll be very prejudice based on your age. And apparently I am unfit to own a cat, but worthy to volunteer to take care of them... I now have three healthy, happy, loving cats. Wish I was able to adopt the cats I had liked at her shelter, but mine are just as great.
