Having lived in Wellesley for a while and never gone here, I always said we should try to stop by if we were ever back in the area. Yesterday, we were driving by and also needed to grab food someplace, so we stopped in. A tattooed young lady behind the deli counter seemed to go out of her way to be rude and unwelcoming because we didn't know the ordering procedure. It was inappropriate and unkind. My daughter enjoyed the ice cream and our subs were average. There's no reason to go here with so many other options close by. It's a no for me. read more

Although it's smaller than Russo or Wilson Farms, Volante has a pretty set-up. I do like their nursery and garden selection. It's great to stroll around during the spring and summer. Their produce looks good, but as a heads up, they're rather pricey. I don't really eat donuts (my downfall will come from a different source), but Volante's cider donuts are very nice. They're crispy on the outside, while soft on the inside (warm if you catch it at the right time). Service hasn't exactly been thrilling, though I've only dealt with younger folk. Slam dunking change onto my hand and not providing any verbal pleasantries isn't going to motivate me to visit here. read more

They sell succulents here including cute pink tinged ones. Big and healthy looking. $5.99 each. I got two of them, unfortunately one of them had spider mites, shouldn't be too much of a problem (knock on wood) since I found out after transplanting them. just a little sad because the succulent was putting out flowers now it looks like the flowers are dried up due to my using rubbing alcohol to get rid of the mites. read more

This is really a farm! I ordered the Monkfish tacos which were amazing! I also picked up some fresh apple cider donuts to go. Three hours later the donuts still were perfectly coated and tasty. They have freshly made ice cream here and, of course, an assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables. This is worth a visit! read more

This is a solid 3 star review! I have only been here a handful of times to try their ready made sandwiches, pies, and ready made dips (chicken buffalo dip). They were all very good. Their banh mi is good (not authentic by any means), but filling. I tried their caprese sandwich and it was really dry, and I wish there was pesto or some sort of dressing on it. The smokey buffalo chicken dip though is amazing, and I'd highly recommend. I think most other items, however, are grossly overpriced. I haven't tried the coffee, ice cream, or other pastries, and will update as we try more things! read more

They are racists! Do not buy from this farm! We had been buying food from this farm for many years, and liked this place until today. During today's visit we meet some new worker (did not see her before), and we have faced racism. Unbelievable!!! In modern USA!!! In democratic Boston!!! Be aware!!! My friend was not allowed to go to the farm to buy food for her family!!! The reason was "you are the party", we "allow only one person from the party to go to the store". But we were seeing couples and families in the store! We are the US citizens, both are hardworking national minorities' families; both have different families, live in different places, and buy different food. If my friend and I were speaking native language between each other, that does not mean we should be denied the store entrance... We are fluent in English (Master Degree from our home country + US college degree), tried to explain that we both could wait, could go one by one, or whatever resolution would work for us, that our end goal is that we both need to buy food for our families... unreasonably denied our request. My friend was driving for 40 minutes, while I was driving for 30 minutes to the farm and my friend left without buying food. Shocked and disappointed... That will be our last visit to this place. Volante Farms is a great specialty market that also serves delicious sandwiches but the only thing holding them back from getting my fifth star is the poor chip selection. While they do have like 7 different types of Cape Cod chips, they lack other attractive options. Wish they would expand the selection a bit more to go with the great sandwiches. read more

The "grocery store" section of Volante Farms is amazing. Although expensive, the products are high-quality and fantastic. The store is open & light, with an easy to follow layout. They always have amazing free samples and the service is fantastic. I don't do my regular shopping here, but always pick up a few things when I stop in We finally got sandwiches for the first time, and I was definitely disappointed in mine. It wasn't bad, it just didn't live up to my expectations. And, not surprisingly, it was not cheap. The to-go salads look good, so I may try one of those in the future. The outdoor seating is a really nice place to sit and enjoy whatever treat you buy. I am definitely looking forward to trying out the fresh ice cream though! read more

I buy the Speck from South Tyrol to save me a trip to Wegmann's, even though Volante's price is at the high end of what I have experienced. The cheese selection is mixed and not always fresh. The biggest disappointment is the beer - do yourself a favor and check the date. Do not buy if it does not have a date, or if the beer is older than a couple of weeks. Most craft brews do not age well, but I have seen beers as old as 6 months and more on Volante's shelves. I recently bought a NBPT IPA that was about 4 weeks old and was only borderline drinkable, certainly not great. I also dislike the practice of scanning your id into their system if you buy alcohol ("store policy"). Big-time privacy concerns. I recommend not allowing the clerk to handle your id and protesting this practice. read more

The sandwich I had was SO GOOD. Volante Farms allows you to customize your sandwich/sub/wrap any way possible. Its your standard Subway set up. However, they use quality ingredients. I had the grilled chicken, and it ACTUALLY looked like chicken. Not surprised though, since it's a local farm. The menu did have a bunch of predefined sandwiches for those who pass on their creativity to the sandwich makers, but for those of us that know what they like, their selection of sauces, breads and veggies are pretty extensive. Very happy about that! The girl at the checkout counter was a bit rude, but that was a small fraction of my experience and I don't normally get bent out of shape by rude people. read more

Needed help loading 6 bags of mulch and a hibiscus plant. The worker I asked for help went out of his way to be unpleasant and indifferent. The employee just threw the bags on the cart with many dangling off the side causing me more issues when trying to leave after paying. The cashier and other workers just stared. One of the workers even cringed as she watched how careless the guy loading the mulch was, but ended up not saying or doing anything. I had to redo his work anyway in the middle of the parking lot as the bags started to fall off. I wish I would have said something; I guess I was a bit surprised at how bold the workers were to be indifferent and callous towards helping a customer. Volante - I'll skip your farm from now on. My office being just a stone's throw away from Volante Farm is a blessing, one that I take advantage of frequently. I go there for lunch and for random errands all of the time and always have a good experience. Volante is divided into two joint businesses. On one side is their deli which provides sandwiches, salads and baked goods to the masses and on the other is their farmstand which has all kinds of veggies, fruits, dairy products and various other items. I've been a fan of their produce and sandwiches however this place being in Needham, the prices are a tad higher than I would like. The quality is there however. There's never more than a 5-10 minute wait for the food and there's a few tables available both outside and in. There's also plenty of parking in their private lot although it does fill up during the lunch hour. This place has been in business for a hundred years and it's not due to luck. Their commitment to quality shows throughout and it makes it a worthwhile place to check out for lunch, groceries or a quick bite if in the area. read more

Used to go here for gluten free sandwiches and to shop. They made awesome GF grilled cheese and BLTs. Then they stopped all GF. No explanation. Just flat out refusal. They don't carry GF bread. I've been going there for ice cream until the COVID made it hard to wait in line etc. I went yesterday and asked for a large ice cream in a waffle cone. Had this from them many times .......... but not yesterday. The server said it must go in a cup with the cone on top. I was driving so a cup doesn't work. I asked why and was told it had something to do with COVID. Hmmmm ?? Really? Makes no sense. I've never seen anything like this before but, some of their store policies appear to good for them without regard to what's good for the customer. I left without the ice cream and won't bother them again. They need to put themselves in the customer's position before making dumb policies. read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet! First off, I grew up in Needham so I have warm fuzzy memories of coming here for groceries with my mom, and picking out pumpkins etc. They have come a long way since then - with more greenhouses and space and a new building in the works (for a year round market - YAY!!!) I love that it is family owned and has such good variety. Not everything they sell is local or by them but the vast majority is local. They have everything a larger farmers market would have - seasonal fruits and vegs, cheese, desserts, honey sticks, plants, pots, and all kinds of seasonal goodies. They have ample parking and its very easy to find. ONLY complaint is there is one teenage-ish girl that works there that always seems pissed that I am 'making' her ring me up. Everyone else is so friendly and chats when ringing up my food etc (which is super nice but not required) but this chick is ALWAYS chewing gum and usually when i walk up to her register she just snaps her gum and stares at me for a few seconds, then rolls her eyes, and lazily starts to ring my items up while sighing like Im taking up her time. Yeesh. HOWEVER I refuse to knock off a star for that because she prob wont even be working there that long (Ive only seen her during the summers and she looks like shes prob about college age soon). And the pros far out way that one con. And they have a really blog online that allows me to check before I go to see if there are any specials etc. They also host events (pie contest, sample tests, demonstrations etc - Im just pissed I missed the demo on heirloom tomatoes). They have done such a wonderful job of blending the old-time feel of the place with the modern technology of the internet and really creating an online following. Bravo!!! read more

My family has been coming here for years & have loved the produce, garden supplies etc. This review is purely about their alcohol policy & poor treatment of wine buyers. My mother asked me to pick up some wine here for a dinner party as she likes the selection. I immediately noticed that they treat wine buyers like criminal elements. It's bad enough that you need to run back and forth between the various cashiers as most have huge signs that say "No Alcohol at this register" and they are very anxious if you even approach a cashier asking if you can purchase your wine there. Although I am decades above the legal drinking age, my out of state license was not acceptable so they had to then call the manager and it was a big production to determine that someone nearly half a century old could purchase the wine. When I complained of this to my mom (as I had not had this treatment in any of the other local wine shops, ever) she told me that even though she is in her 70s, they card her every time she goes, take a picture of her license, and two times now an older employee, perhaps the manager, has seen my mom purchase more than one bottle of wine and exclaimed for the whole store to hear "Look, we have a real WINO here!" My mom was too embarrassed and polite to respond. I wish I had known they are treating seniors like this as I would not have given them any business. read more

I want to give the place 5 stars, for their amazing selection, the space, the beautifully displayed produce and products. It is just chock full of goodness, with lovely products, and great staff. However, the beauty of it all and the sincere helpfulness of the staff, can get overshadowed by the snobbery and lack of finess of some employees. If there is one stickler for rules, I am almost there. But when my 15 year old, reaches into the cart, simply to help me WITH ME STANDING THERE NEXT TO THE CART BUT IN AN AWKWARD POSITION, and he inadvertently grabs the bottle of wine WITH ME STANDING THERE, to hand it to me, and the super obnoxious woman feels she has to remind us of THE LIQUOR RULES - DID I MENTION I WAS STANDING THERE WITH MY SON AND HE WAS SIMPLY HELPING ME EMPTY THE CART AND IT WAS A VERY QUICK AND SUPERVISED ACTION - I think its a little petty. She could have just stated - "Maam you have raised quite a young and helpful man, but I need to ask you not allow him to touch the liquor bottles" rather than almost yelling at him. He was quite confused and embarrassed unnecessarily, in particular when he doesn't even like liquor. I had my ID and money - it was quite obvious that we intended not to break rules. So if you need to make an example out of someone - try to exercise better judgment - such as unaccompanied minors. I just can't stand snobbery - in particular when the lady had heard me speaking in Spanish to my husband. No bueno. I appreciate your enforcing the rules. Its important. But be more judgmental and less stuck up. Its not becoming of a professional, at any level. In the meantime, next time we buy wine, we will leave the teen in the car, or make sure he is at least 20 feet away from the building - even though he makes us buy more bread, cookies, fruit, cheese and cake. First time there, checked out the produce/prices and they were not shy about charging a lot for what can be bought elsewhere for far less, even at other farm stands for less. Had to wait in the blazing sun for 15 mins to enter..they need more tents, had 1 it was not enough; husband almost had heat stroke waiting to enter the store.
