First I would like to express that we love our Westwood store, but are disappointed in the Thanksgiving turkey dinner catering. For several years we've purchased the dinner which serves 8 to 10 people and told many friends how great it was in the past, but this year 2024, we were shocked, not in the fixings but the size of the turkey. We've always purchased the 10 to 12 pound turkey and received a bird 11 pounds closer to 12 pounds in the past. What we got this year was a small 10 pound bird that I can't believe would serve 8 to 10 people. I purchased a spiral ham to backup the smaller turkey. I have always loved this store, until today. . . I was shopping at the Westwood/Islington location at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. My transaction # was 4907. After completing my shopping, while on my way to check out, I noticed that the 4 pack of Sutter Home Cabernet wine that I added to my cart early in my shopping excursion, only had 2 bottles so I assumed I didn't notice that when I picked it up. I then returned to the alcohol aisle to exchange this and was confronted by someone who stated that I was seen taking a carton with 4 bottles and now there were two. I was then told to leave the store and could not pay for my full carriage of groceries. I tried to explain there was no way I would do that and where were the bottles? (I was carrying a small purse and a coat with small pockets.) I also said that I had left my cart unattended several times. When I realized he would not hear anything I had to say, I asked to speak to a manager. I followed him to the courtesy desk and waited for a manager. When I realized she would not listen to me either, I became upset and was told to calm down. She said she would allow me to purchase my groceries and there would have to be a further investigation. At this point, I was in tears. Unfortunately, I did not have the forethought to get either of these employees names. Based on the time and other information I have given you, I am confident that you can ascertain the staff I am referring to. At check out I spent $98.91 and left the market still in tears. The women at checkout Lane 7 know me from the numerous times I have shopped at this location. They were, as usual, very kind to me. I have been a customer at this location for over 30 years and actually worked here for a brief time in the late 90s when I was laid off from a corporate position. I have spent thousands and thousands of dollars at Roche Bros. throughout the area. Worst Roche bros store I've been to. Thought it was a good idea to grab a quick bite to eat, but this was the worst decision. The hot bar was expensive for the crappy food they give. Spent $30 on two plates. Food was bland and unflavored. By the time I got home (10 minute drive) the food was cold. Don't eat with your eyes y'all. read more

This fine establishment is located conveniently between Mel's house and where cold stone used to be! Tall shelves stocked FULL of groceries completely fill the store. They even have those fancy shelves that are also refrigerators. One time I was getting a broccoli and this one shelf squirted me with a sprinkle of water. This is probably to help the produce grow. I like this grocery store.... here's the rundown: 1. Not the largest around, but it is CLEAN and the coffee cake muffins are awesome. Yes, the muffins are at all locations, but they always seem to be available when I want them here! 2. Nice high school kids working the registers in the evening. Honestly, they are all so nice and I prefer them over the daytime employees because these kids are just so NICE. 3. There is now a whole aisle of WINE AND BEER!! 4. A huge selection of take-home hot and cold items 5. The bottle return area always has machines that work (that doesn't usually happen at Shaw's... they are full, and who wants to them wait in line at the customer service desk? Not me...) 6. Terrible experience. My girlfriend and I came here to get some dinner after a movie. we sat down and had some hot bar but didn't finish it all. We threw out the receipts by mistake when we threw out our trash We later went to the bathroom and as we were walking out a manager named Mary rudely stopped us, thinking we were stealing. I later came back and showed her the bank statement showing our card getting charged and offered to dig it the receipt from the trash myself. No apology from her of course. I partially agree w/ the first review. In most cases, the price is not right. I've got Hannaford's exactly 1/2 mile from my house, and 2 Stop & Shops within 2 miles. We usually do S&S, especially now that they've got the gas station on Rte 1 in Walpole. Yet there are a few reasons why I go to Roche Bros.: One - the fresh meat is outstanding, particularly the beef. I can grab a couple of 3/4-LB Ribeyes and grill them to a nice medium-rare and challenge Mortons or Capital Grille to a throwdown. Two - the florist shop is great. I've purchased some great assortments for cheap money that lasted well over a week. Three - the chicken wing bar. They usually have 5 different flavors, none of which are noteworthy except for the honey-bbq wings. They're doing something different w/ those wings compared to the others available. They are nicely sauced and the meat has a great smoky flavor. Plus, on Sundays during football season, they have Buffalo wings at the wing bar that aren't too bad, all things considered. I've never had problems w/ under-cooked prepared foods either. And they're my only local store that carries bread from Nashoba Brook Bakery in West Concord. The NBB Sourdough bread is simply the best bread there is. Toasts-up perfectly. read more

I wouldn't shop anywhere else. For those who think the prices are "outrageous", they are below whole foods and I'd rather pay a few extra dollars for my meat than to be eating whatever Shaws/Hannafords/Stop and Shop does to their meat. All other grocery stores strike me as unsanitary and non-caring. The staff at Roche Bros is unbelievable - a lot of them are young high school/college kids, and to be honest they are usually better than the full time employees I will see at other grocery stores. The produce department is constantly clean as well as every other department. Customer service associates are always friendly, and I'm impressed how they take you down the aisle to find things. A few months ago (March maybe?) I was shopping there around 10:30PM and there was a young guy in charge of the cashier area. He couldn't have been more than 22 years old, and when I asked him where the peanut butter was he brought me down the aisle himself and was very pleasant to talk to. The one down side is they recently stopped carrying Boar's Head, but I'd rather still shop at Roche Bros to ensure my meat is clean and fresh than to go to Stop and Shop for Boar's Head. Finally I cannot rave about how good their cakes are and salad bar. I wish a Roche Bros would open up in Boston so I could go there after work! read more

I posted a 3 star review. I decided to update to 5 stars. Because, really, this is is BEST Roche Bros near me. The stores in West Roxbury and Wellesley are almost as good, but this store is the largest one that isn't SUPER busy, which is really nice. There is a bank inside this store (which I visit often), and I often buy groceries in this store. Only issue is the prices, they can be high, yet the quality is superior and for meats, this is your best bet. For other regular grocery items, prices are REALLY not that much moe than Stop&Shop or other places of the sort. People often give Roche Bros a bad name when it comes to pricing, which I simply don't understand. I normally food shop at the Walpole 1A Super Stop&Shop (Roche should have self checkout and scanner guns, like they do!) which is much larger, yet still doesn't have a few items I purchase here (certain breads, and they don't have the same meats). I do wish they would start having Self Checkout like at Stop&Shop, yet that's not too big of an issue. Anyway, until next week when Wegmans opens (hmmm, will this place feel the competition?), this is my closest, good grocery store, and the one of the only full grocery stores currently in Westwood (Lambert's, Target, and Wegmans are the others in Westwood) read more

A very nice store, as long as you're not at all price conscious. As someone who until recently was within easy walking distance of a Big Y, and now has shopped a bit at Roche Bros, my basic comment is this: Almost everything at Roche is 10-25% more than at Big Y. Moreover, there's a smaller selection of better-value store brands at Roche. Both stores are clean, have polite staff and have decent stuff. That's all I've got to say. read more

Really good produce, the staff is always very nice and helpful. They have a lot of cash registers open at a time so I never feel like it waiting long. I don't do a large shop here because I find somethings are more expensive than other grocery stores however this is a great place to get your produce. read more

This location has an excellent produce department that offers a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables including organic selections. Their meat department is also very good and the butchers are visible and helpful. They now sell beer and wine also, which is a plus. The store is clean and all the employees are courteous. They hire a lot of young teenagers as cashiers and baggers and I have always found them to be polite. This is a family-run company that has grown tremendously over the last 50 years. It is on the expensive side and the stores are not as large as at some of the other supermarket chains, so there are not as many brand options. One distinction about this store is that they insist on having the bagger push your cart out to your car for you and load your groceries into your car. I imagine this is very helpful to some customers. I never found it necessary, but generally let them do it anyway as they are trained to do so. They post a no tipping policy. They have a good home delivery service, too. read more

Went to the Butcher/Meat shop yesterday and waited a long time and I was the only customer..as Big fat man and Louis discussed what I assumed was the theory of relativity in the back and just looked at me a customer who wanted to give Roche's money...Then after the conversation was Over Louis continued to unload a tray of meat in the Back. When he did come out he slammed my steak tips into a container and went back to playing with his meat in the back. Oh it gets better as I went to check out I dad to wait once again the only one in line as one cashier told the other two how she was done cooking for her husband....Now tell me why in God name I would want to go back there? read more

Roche Bros is an upscale grocery store with higher prices. The store is neat and clean, there's a good selection of prepared lunches and dinners (including sushi), selection of richer foods, and employees who help the elderly load their cars after shopping. The patrons are generally well mannered, so there is a reason why it's more expensive. I should mention that the prepared food can be undercooked, leading to certain gastrointestinal problems. In the end though, with all things considered, the amenities don't justify the higher prices. read more

BUYERS BEWARE! On 8/9/13 Roche Bros. ran on their weekly circular dated 8/9-8/15-'Live n' kicking chicken lobsters up to 1.25 lb. $4.99/LB'. My wife ordered 20 cooked lobsters at their seafood dept for a 6pm pickup. I paid $279.48, & sensing an overcharge we returned to complain. When we looked at the bags containing the lobsters, price tags on each bag was '1 piece $58' but never indicated the weigh w/c contained 4 lobsters each. The customer service rep walked us to the seafood section & the person who worked there said the scale could not weigh all 20 lobsters so he just estimated $58/bag of 4 chicken lobster. He also didn't want to re-weigh the cooked lobsters so he suggested the assistant store manager reduce the price of 20 lobsters by $58 but we still ended up paying $221.48. If for the sake of discussion each lobster weighed 1.25 times 20 pieces @ $4.99/lb, that's $124.75. Isn't it wrong not to weigh each lobster if they advertised it by the pound? Something terribly wrong here. read more

A Roast is a Roast and should be palatable when cooked by Roasting; instead I got STEW MEAT, from Roche Brothers! What's going on with this company and what happened to the once great Meat Department at Roche Brothers? As a child, I remember family dinners in the 1970's and 1980's where there wasn't a scrap of meat left after Sunday Dinner. Now, they seem to specialize in terrible cuts of meat with lots of gristle, especially when featured at a sale price. And, Roche Brothers has recently dreamed up new merchandising techniques and has created cute, undefined product names, like, Petite Sirloin, which chews like Stew Meat. This Roche Brothers store has been here for many years and used to offer fine meats at reasonable prices, but in past years the beef quality has suffered considerably, due to poor cuts of meat, along with poor trimming, which results in the inclusion of lots of gristle to increase the billable weight of said meat. Because of this, I have had to return meat to this location on multiple occasions. If you like Eye of the Round "Roast" that is as tough as Stew Meat, regardless of degree of doneness or how thinly sliced or angle of slicing to grain, you will love Roche Brothers Meat Department. Again, it cannot be overstated: A Roast is a Roast and should be palatable when cooked by Roasting; instead I got STEW MEAT, on numerous occasions from Roche Brothers! How ironic that a company that started as a quality meat store in Roslindale Square, emphasizing their Fine Meat, is now offering such poor quality beef. read more

I came back again to ask the unfriendly woman that works in the hot bar if they would have anymore, she simply replies, in an unfriendly way, "Not right now." The cashier wasn't that friendly either. I have found Roche to be nothing but helpful. If you have an issue, they resolve it. After all, we all make mistakes and its how those mistakes are handled that is the most important for me. Yes, they charge a bit more for their products but... they have great fruit, very nice baked goods and the staff for the most part are very upbeat and helpful. Personal service at it's best. I shop in the Westwood Roche Bros. Supermarket regularly and do so because of the outstanding service I always received there. I can depend on finding what I need or someone there to help me do so. The quality of the produce is always great as well as the fresh selections in the meat, fish and bakery sections. In proving my point, when I was in the Store yesterday, I asked the butcher at the meat counter named Louis for a specific cut of meat I had a recipe for. He told me that the cut ( a pork shoulder butt) was out of stock but then directed me to another cut that would work just as well. In addition he asked me if I had a recipe and offered a couple of suggestions. This kind of encounter happens often and is the reason I will continue to shop at Roche Bros. read more

Hot bar needs serious work. Just paid $31 for chicken that was not good. Barbeque chicken was dry. Wings weren't great and chicken nuggets were hard. If you are selling prepared food you should maintain your food bar. Disappointing. I will not get dinner there again. Bummer because their catering is really good. read more

This Roche Bros has gone downhill lately, I shop there 2-3 times a week. Today my experience with the Store Manager, Mary I believe that was what her name tag said,. was not good. She and a few other people were at the desk in front of the cashiers. I tried to speak with her about a bagging issues I have there the past couple of times I shopped there, She never looked at me or stopped what she was doing. I realize it was a little busy being the Monday before Thanksgiving but I have seen it busier on a normal Sunday. She just said "yeah, yeah, yeah" as I was speaking to her. Not what I call customer service!! At the very least I would have expected one of 5-6 others to step in and listen!!! I left there feeling ignored and dismissed. Not the way a Manager should act. I think I'll go to Needham or West Roxbury from now on, a longer ride but at least I won't have to deal this so called store Manger in the future.
