Great sushi and pad thai! They always bring out the sushi like a work of art. We got the sweet potato roll the first time AND the second time because it was unexpectedly good. We got an Exploded Roll this time which has layers to it. Sometimes, layered sushi falls apart but the sushi artists here do a great job with their rolls. I thought the exploded roll would have a little more crunch but it was mostly smooth and savory (still good!) The pad thai is soo good - we've gotten that both times now too. they serve it with a slice of lime and be sure to squeeze it on top cause its just perfection. They know their flavors. We ordered the Wokcano Burrito last time and I would recommend that if you want something out of the ordinary besides the typical sushi/noodle/soup dishes. Ichiban roll is deliciousss and the dynamite roll CATCHES ON ACTUAL FIRE?! We liked it so much the first time, we bought our Lubbock guests to eat here and they loved it. I usually have sushi in Houston and Dallas and I just moved to Odessa so for the price, this is pretty good - especially the presentation. Sometimes, I have to ask for sauces to enhance the flavor of foods in some restaurants but here they do a great job of balancing tastes. read more

Loved my experience and meal here. They have so many options, so it is a great crowd pleaser. The sushi tasted fresh and carefully crafted. They even drew a little pikachu on my plate in sauce. The service was spot on and we had a great time. My husband's noodles tasted great and was also a generous portion. This was the best Mongolian Beef I have ever had! The meat was tender and the vegetables were fresh and the fried rice was amazing. The staff treated you like you have been there a thousand times!! Eww. Not sure why this place has such good reviews. I could only force down about 1/2 if the food. Had the spicy tuna roll - gross. I've had spicy tuna rolls at several places & this mushy tuna scrape was gross. Then tried the teriyaki chicken with fried rice, which was bland all around. I told the waiter during checkout (full bill, no discount) and he said yeah, I wouldn't eat here either. Really? Never again. read more

I've been to many Japanese restaurants and tried anywhere between grocery store sushi to tsukizi market sushi fresh out of boat. I wouldn't go to this place for sushi. I recommend you to order Chinese food and rolls if you crave Asian food, but not sushi. I ordered tuna tataki for appetizer ($11) and sushi&sashimi combo ($26) for dinner. Tuna tataki had a beautiful decoration and looked delicious. However, when I had a bite of it, I noticed that it was hard (seemed over cooked or old), doesn't melt in your mouth as it should, super salty and spicy. I felt that it was over seasoned. Appetizer should encourage you to become appetite for the main course. I lost my appetite instead because it was numbing my tongue with all its saltiness and slickness with all the pepper used. It was painful to finish the first dish. The presentation of the dinner combo was marvelous. I didn't really like the flashing light under the sashimi dish because it was very distracting to the meal that I was trying to enjoy with all the rhythmic flickering trying to help me eat quick. The sushi was not fresh or cold. It was meh. The juice from sushi tasted like a freezer. Spicy tuna roll was good though. A little dry, but had lots of filling inside, not too much rice, I liked it. The server was attentive but more on the creepy side. She would snuck up from the back and ask if everything was okay into my ear. Geez I need a personal space please. When I was almost done with the meal, she would stare from the far and often made an eye contact. Also came to me about 5-6 times total throughout the meal to ask if everything was okay. That's excluding the times to take order and bring me the food and drink. I'm not sure if I would go back again. Maybe I'll go to try the Chinese menu, because the owners are Chinese and they might do a better job. We will see. read more

Amazing!!! We come to Odessa occasionally for work and have had a hard time finding really good food... until tonight. Volcano was SO good. It can be tough to find really good sushi, and to be honest I was skeptical reading all the reviews but everything we had was delicious. Lettuce wraps, miso soup, pad Thai, the volcano burrito and every rolls we tried.. everything was delicious. And the service was the best we've received in any restaurant in town. We moved to Odessa in September 2015. Our executive chef took us here for great sushi. We were very sceptical because we were in Odessa. We have had sushi all over the states and were a little nervous. WOW were we wrong! We are proud to say some of the best sushi we have EVER had is here. Unfortunately we were relocated in May 2015 to Cedar Park right outside of Austin. We have tried every sushi restaurant in a 20 mile radius and nothing compares. We were excited to come back to visit our residents and also to have our favorite sushi! We had supper tonight and can't wait to have lunch tomorrow! I was here the other day. Food was fine. Service was prompt. I ordered the Spicy Girl, the Volcano, and lastly Philly Rolls. I enjoyed my food. Everything was fine up until the next day I check my bank statement. I received a bill of 33 dollars and some change for my food and drink. Okay, fine. I paid. However, I also tipped $12.00 evening the $33 to $45. I even wrote $45 on the receipt. Tell me how the hell I get charged $50 dollars as opposed to $45?! Sounds pretty much like I got money stolen from me. It is about principle. I was generous to offer more than 25% tip and I get my money stolen from me? Only if my people from NYC, Philly, and Houston knew about this spot. We don't play that shit. read more

Went in to have dinner tonight, ordered food within 5 minutes of being seated, 2 rolls, 2 soups and a fried rice. As we're waiting many other patrons are being sat, they order their food and receive it as we're still waiting for 25 minutes with empty drinks on our table. We ask another waiter that is not ours where our food is and they never even put in the order. As we're leaving the host says thank you, i tried speaking to him but he ignored and didn't even acknowledge me. I would give this zero stars if i could. read more

I'm pretty torn on how many stars to give this place. I know it just opened up so they are trying to work out some of the kinks. With that said, I do think the sushi is great. It's very fresh, which is really the most important part in my opinion! We have been 3 times in the 2 weeks that its been open so I have tried a pretty good amount. For the appetizers I recommend the age tofu and steamed gyoza. The age tofu has a light breading and great sauce. They offer both steamed and deep fried, we have only had steamed, but it was cooked perfect both time (and it's hard to find good gyoza in my opinion). The edamame is typical, but the portion size has been cut in half since the first time we ordered, so it's not worth $6 for a small bowl. The spring rolls say they come with 4, but it's 2 small ones cut in half.. It was also mushy inside. Everyone I was with liked the crispy green beans, but they aren't my thing. The lettuce wraps had a crispy chicken, almost like kung pao filling. Now to the sushi! We have tried and love: Salmon and eel nigiri. Wasabi roll, Godzilla roll and Philly. I am so picky when it comes to nigiri, and those were FRESH. I really like the Godzilla because it doesn't have too much breading for being deep fried, and they put a lot of tobiko on top, my favorite! The Wasabi roll speaks for itself. It's worth getting. I asked for fresh salmon instead of smoked salmon in the Philly. Of course it's not different than any other Philly, but they didn't mind changing it. We also ordered the red dragon and butterfly. The butterfly was really good, but I think the mango could have been a little more ripe. I will try it again though! I like this place so far. I do feel like some of the special rolls could have a little more added to them, but I am very glad I don't have to go to Midland for sushi anymore. read more

Chicken with teriyaki sauce e smothered calling it teriyaki chicken. as long there is money in Odessa smart people will come in to set up "exotic" restaurants as its easy money compared to towns where people are less vulnerable. this place serves one of the best cuts of sashimi and delicious rolls that won't break the bank. they also serve hibachi dishes, ramen, pan fried noodles (they even have pad thai & yakisoba!!), and different types of rice entrees. they serve lunch specials M-F from 11am-3pm. the place is decorated well with a modern feel. their service was on point also. I feel like most places I frequent in Odessa/Midland are "well, it's pretty good....for here." I'd been settling for sushi at Osaka any time I had a craving, so when this place popped up I was excited to try it. Impressed is an understatement. Finally, a restaurant in the area whose focus is sushi! Most of the menu lists rolls - they do have some other asian dishes - salads, soups, noodle dishes, and terriyakis from what I recall. They also have a full page dedicated to lunch specials (bento boxes! in Odessa!) Now the food, oh, the food. I believe my exact words were "I forgot sushi could be this good." After two years of settling for the mediocre "sushi" in this area, this place is a godsend. All of the fish is fresh, you'll be fine getting sushi or sashimi in place of rolls. Presentation is immaculate. The ambiance is great too - you're not competing for a seat at a hibachi table, or dealing with the noise/crowds from them. Also, try the Hana Lychee Sake. I just happened to find out about Wokcano by looking at recent reviews of restaurants on Yelp. I had heard no other advertising or publicity for it. Since we were in the mood for some Sushi, we decided to give it a try. It was some of the best sushi we have had. The miso soup was very good and had the authentic ingredients. The green tea had great flavor and was even made with fresh tea leaves, not tea bags. The fish was all fresh and tasty and the eel was very good. It seems like eel can be something which can get rancid pretty quickly as some places we had gotten it, it was kind of "fishy" but it was great here. Everything was arranged in a beautiful artistic manner on the plates. Also we got some Crab Rangoons which were fried just right. The only negative things, and they were slight: There is no order sheet and pencil for sushi. We really prefer to be able to write the quantities of sushi on the sheet. There is a bit of a language barrier with the sushi chefs and waitress. They were all very polite but it was hard to ask to see if they could make a special request which was not on the menu. They did not have the traditional sliced cucumber salad. The music was a little unusual and kind of loud. They started playing what sounded like Asian pop music and then American pop hits like "All About That Bass". read more

Teriyaki salmon with steamed rice was delicious. Only thing I didn't like about the food was the salmon was served on a bed of onions. Just me being picky but it didn't take away from the taste. Also the teriyaki sauce is by far the best tasting one I ever had. I had a roll with lobster and crab. Don't remember the name but fantastic. My dad got the generals chicken and he was speechless because that's his favorite and hadn't found nothing like that until now. Plus he raved about the egg drop soup. I didn't expect this from Odessa, but I had my favorite sushi in recent memory here! We thoroughly enjoyed watching our meal being prepared from our seats at the sushi bar. The sushi manager creating our meal was very friendly and clearly proud of his craft. He made very intricate drawings on our plates using the sauces, which created entertainment exceeding expectations. Of course, most importantly, the food itself was DELICIOUS! We ordered the California Rolls, Surprised Rolls, and tempura shrimp Volkano Rolls. The California Rolls were what you'd expect, but the two specialty rolls really blew us away. The presentation, service, flavor, blend of ingredients, and value were all terrific. Top notch! p.s. Our sushi chef was Ray.
