For dinner I had the hibachi steak with salmon fried rice and noodles. It was decent. The steak was really overcooked to the point it was dry. The salmon had a good flavor and was cooked well. The mountain of rice was enough for 2 people to share! My waiter was an older gentleman who was pretty slow, maybe they were busy since the restaurant is split into 2 sections. This place is located at the former Los Amigos location on route 73 I. Berlin NJ. There is a shopping center with a couple of other retailers and a decent sized parking lot. Inside the place is divided into three main areas. There is a bar area to the left, a main dining area in the center and a room to the right with Hibachi grills and chefs. We came for a birthday party on a Saturday night with a group of 8 for hibachi. We were well taken care of by a waitress. She asked us for our drink order and our food order and then the experience began. We were served a very light broth based soup with some sliced raw mushrooms and a few cooked pasta. Then came the typical hibachi iceberg lettuce salad with ginger dressing. Next out rolled the chef with his little cart. We had a great time, he made lots of jokes and had everyone laughing and was very engaging. All the classics - onion volcano, broccoli flinging into your mouth. He gave the adults saki shots out of a squeeze bottle and the minors lemonade out of a baby bottle. The group ordered a variety of different meats. You can do various things from chicken, steak, to seafood. You get stir fried vegetables and fried rice. (You can choose noodles for an upcharge) overall it was an entertaining experience, the food was pretty good and the server and the chef were friendly, engaging and worked hard to keep our group happy. We were able to see a robot delivering our sushi here and the kids loved it. It would hold flat platters and deliver the sushi to our table. You could even order from it. The sushi and food was pretty good. It is close to Diggerland so we stopped by here. read more

UPDATE: 2/20/2025 We have become regular customers of Volcano Steak & Sushi, although 90% of the time we get their delicious food delivered. The food is always delicious and well-prepared. 6 years after our first visit, the quality has been consistent and we order from them almost bi-weekly, sometimes more. ORIGINAL REVIEW 2019: GREAT Food, POOR, SLOW Service We stopped into Volcano Steak & Sushi for dinner. We were promptly seated and the restaurant was busy. Edy was our server and he took our drink order and once back with the drinks he took our dinner order: Vegetable Tempura appetizer, Sashimi Combo and a Chicken Bento Box. Everything started well. The restaurant then emptied out, leaving one person at the bar and one other table in the dining area. The salad and soup that came with our order was great - hot soup, cold, crisp refreshing salad with a great dressing. The Vegetable Tempura appetizer came out piping hot and cooked to perfection. All good and then the LONG WAIT. Edy was no where to be seen for quite a while and after we finished our appetizer, we had about 20-25 minutes of waiting before Edy passed by to let us know our entrees would soon be on the way. They weren't. It was another 10-15 minutes before he returned with the Sashimi Combo platter - it looked beautiful and tasted great. After a few minutes, my entrée of the Chicken Bento box arrived. Hot, freshly cooked and with a very nice portion of rice and chicken as well as a perfectly cooked tempura shrimp and California roll. My dining partner told me that his Sashimi combo was delicious and pretty much the freshest sashimi that he had enjoyed in quite some time in New Jersey. Our food was 5 stars great and delicious. No complaints about the food and if the service was even close to the same level, this would be a 5-star review. Unfortunately, our service was 2 stars at best. Edy was pleasant, friendly but absent for most of the evening and not very attentive when he was at the table. After 2 orders of hot sake, we asked for 1 more order and he brought 2. We let it slide, paid for it and went on our way in agreement about our visit - great food, poor service. We will return one more time at some point and I will update the review at that time. If the food is as good and the service is better, then they may have regular customers; if not then that will be the last time we stop in to Volcano Steak & Sushi. read more

Been here twice now, and both experiences have been great. We even had the same waitress as last time, which was nice. The food was delicious and fresh, the drinks were amazing, and the service--like always--was really great. They also offer hibachi, which I haven't tried yet, but I'm definitely looking forward to checking it out next time read more

My first time going there a few days ago and I was slightly disappointed. The service was great, I think the waiter name was Di Di, he was very nice and helpful. My friend order the hibachi salmon and shrimp and I order sushi, miso soup, shumai steamed. Everything was good, except the sushi! It was literally one of the worse tasting sushi I ever had. The rice was hard, the spicy tuna wasn't spicy at all, the rolls were rolled so tight that they were a lot smaller than normally. We came here at 5:30 on a Tuesday night, waited for the Hibachi grill to heat up, about 10 minutes. Staff are friendly, our chef was funny but not great for a Hibachi chef. The food did not taste great, WAY too much butter and oil, it was over powering. The vegetable Hibachi was so greasy along with the steak. Second time and last time eating there! Both times we have eaten there members of our party are sick that night or the next day. We did Hibachi this time. Well, it was saturated in butter (or lard) couldn't tell what the block of fat was being used. Seafood, chicken, and beef all cooked together with same utensils. Items on the cart were held together with tape. Waiter would rub eyes and then put those same fingers in our salad bowls as he was serving. The entire meal was salty and greasy. Such a shame. My review... Food: Low end Sushi place. No Quail Egg, Surf Clam, red clam, giant Clam, Toro, Faty Tuna or Salmon, no Oyster, no Uni, no live Scallop. But they had something for scallop. Some they might list, but when you ask for something, they always say they don't have it. Focus is standard and some specialty Rolls. Hibachi seems to be good. More like Chinese/Japanese places, basic sushi stuff. Service: waiter, Didi was nice. He took orders by seat # at the Sushi bar. Encouraging, but read on... Four of us went, seats S2, S3, S4, and S5 at the Sushi Bar. The waiter took orders from the opposite side of Bar (our side). We weren't served at the same time. My daughter's steak Hibachi came first within reasonable time, she finished before we got our orders, she liked it. But none of us ate together. Our Sushi orders took 40 minutes spread out. Daughter's BF (S3 seat) was delivered what we thought was his order as the Sushi Chef handed directly to him. Not the waiter. The specialty rolls look similar and no one tells you what they're handing to you. So you assume if handing to you directly, it's your order, by seat #. My wife received 1 of 3 Sushi rolls she ordered (it was right) and finished it. My order came at seat S5, It came on a hot plate! What???? Wasn't happy about that since I ordered Sashimi! The meal wasn't bad despite the hot plate and at least I got everything I ordered. More food was delivered for S3 (daughter's BF), he ordered a variety of many colorful rolls. My wife (S4 seat) asked the waiter where the remainder of her order was, he inquired and they said she already got it, but didn't, she got 1 of 3 only. Come to find they gave S3 her order + his order. but he already ate it thinking it was his order. It was a mistake they made and they insisted that she was given her order. The waiter Didi said not to worry, he understood and would resolve with the Manager. We don't know what her name was, but she is a short angry looking woman with dark hair in a Pony tail assisting behind the Sushi Bar. This was June 4, 2025 between 6:50pm and 8:15pm. We explained to her what happened and she was very rude, defensive, argumentative, and nasty to us pointing at S3 stating they gave to him and we tried to communicate that they gave to the wrong seat and should have went to S4! She didn't even attempt to understand or do anything to resolve... so my wife went without eating any further as she was upset. I was just about to order more Sushi and I told the waiter we were done. The wife and I didn't want anything more after being treated so poorly by the Manager. They need a friendly, un-confrontational Manager there at the Sushi Bar. We were very displeased in how we were treated by her. First time and very last time there. Try "To Kai" in NE Philly on Grant Ave. They know what they're doing, treat you well, and amazing selections. They have all the go to stuff like I mentioned early on. And they put the Sashimi on a bed of crushed ice! Ambiance: Average, very loud, Hibachi tables, dining and Sushi Bar. To me, nothing to write home about. Give it a shot, It might be interesting to see what your experience is. I suggest not eating at the Sushi Bar, seems very chaotic and a lot of confusion going on, they brought a spider roll to the person right to me and she didn't even order it. You would think with the numbered seats they would get orders right. they enter everything by a handheld computer device. They struggle with special requests or modifications, like brown vs white rice or simply "no mayo sauce" if you ask after ordering using the device. Waiter had to print the order, and write the request on the order. He couldn't update it. But at least he resolved it! I gave an honest review here. It's unfortunate that we had a bad experience with the manager who refused to remedy the situation. Not professional at all. Had she been polite and handled it better, we may have re-ordered and marked it up as an honest mistake. That would've made a difference and it might've earned an "OK" three stars versus the two I gave. Anyway, nothing worse than going someplace to eat, spend good money and be dissatisfied. Be specific about your order and make sure you ask what they're handing to you! If you can tell what you're being handed (specialty rolls) then great, because it's hard to decipher (so many colors and varieties) what kind of rolls you're getting without being told, by who's severing you. Since they have the seating numbers, one would think you're getting what you ordered, but not so here, folks! Message to the Manager, as the old saying goes, you get more flys with honey than you do with vinegar!!!Try to listen, evaluate, and understand the problem, then attempt to address politely instead of jumping down the customer's throat. DiDi: thanks for trying.to resolve, we know you tried, and it was the manager that failed to ensure the customer was happy, not you. Regardless, be polite, not indignant. read more

This sushi made me sick. I ordered while at work and couldn't stay out of the bathroom. This is supposed to be crab tempura inside but it's grey and it taste awful. The shrimp on top also had an ammonia taste. I think the ingredients went bad and for that I will never order from here again! read more

Another first for me. I was 50/50 based on the reviews I read online but came with an open mind and positive hopes as per usual. Thoroughly impressed with the starters! First dish, first bite; delicious. Miso soup tasted great (yes there's a difference between good and meh miso soup). The side salad was different and delicious with their mayo/ginger dressing (I'm guessing that's what it was); well done on that. The mussels were awesome and had a serious kick, so greatly appreciated those...I could eat a dozen of those easy! The fried oysters were just as solid when they came out next. Some of the top I've had in a while anywhere; impressive! The beef negimaki on the other hand..hard pass! Dry and very unappetizing tasting and looking. I was shocked after loving everything that came out up until that point .. Onto the mains: most of the sashimi plate was good imo, tuna, salmon, white tuna were bien..the other cuts of fish were sub par in quality or prep. The salmon bento box ..california roll was nice and fresh. Fried rice was below average compared to similar I've had in the area and would do without next time ..salmon was a bit overcooked from my experience and liking but the shrimp tempura was A+ quality and prep. So..a mixed bag overall but impressed with what I did like; I may be going there again for perhaps different items and consistency. This review is for the teppan dining only. I am always amazed at how people eat sushi and/or an app with a full teppan meal - it's so much food. I digress. The chef we had was very entertaining. They love fire and so do I. I had the filet mignon, my wife had the sirloin and my parents shared the seafood trio (I think it was scallops, lobster and shrimp). The salad was the usual fare and the onion soup was meh. I ordered the fried rice and it was only cooked with egg and not the usual peas, carrots and onions most teppan places serve. The grilled veggies were pretty good but some parts were slightly burned. My steak was prepared at how I wanted it cooked. The issue I had was the teppan grill must have been running hot because there were small flecks of grill char on my meat. Not a big deal for most people, I just found it odd for a teppan place. I really did enjoy the show and the food tasted okay. For an entertaining meal, you would enjoy this place. read more

Sushi feasting in the car chronicles continues... This joint offers 50% sushi rolls on Monday. They are honoring the price for takeout (thanks Rona). Lady on the phone said ready in 15-20 minutes, but actually took 30. Two rolls: Aloha and AK-47 (strange name considering gun violence in the US) Aloha was no bueno. The spicy tuna on top had a strange taste and odor, so I had to scrape it off. The roll was fried and the tempura was thick and chewy. Stay away from this one. AK-47 roll was good. We really enjoyed the hibachi entertainment and thought all of the food was really good. The biggest problem I had was with the messiness of the place which was off putting. Right through the front door you can see the doorway to the bathrooms loaded up with brooms/mops. The curtains look out of place and tacky. The front wall in the hibachi room was loaded with random items, booster seats, plates, rags, pots, a chair, etc. all visible to everyone in the room. Lastly, the decor on the walls was very random, looked like plastic flowers on the back wall, possibly left there from the previous business. I think the staff squeezed a few too many around the grille tonight, but at least the strangers were nice. Hibachi: fabulous. Chef was fun and even tried hard to engage my quiet daughter. Tasty all around. Service: excellent. Manager kept going around topping off drinks. Slight downer: we had to wait a bit, seated tightly around the grill for a chef to be available. Manager made it up with cheesecake bites for everyone. Maybe i received the wrong menu, but each thing on my bill was $2-3 more than the menu said (about $15 total). Upon walk-in, to your right are the hibachi stations and to your left is the main dining room with bar. We ate in the main dining room at a table against the window Facing the bar. My boyfriend and I ordered hibachi. It came with soup, a salad, proteins, rice and vegetables. My boyfriends dad ordered chicken teriyaki which came in a fun bento box with a side of sushi and tempura. We all shared sushi appetizers. The food was delicious and the service was great. This is a great place for sushi! Until December 18, there is half price sushi on Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays. They also have a promotion if you check in / tag them on Facebook or Instagram and show them, you get a $5.00 gift card towards your next visit. The service is good, the wait time for sushi is pretty fast considering they are making your rolls at the same time as others in the restaurant. Full bar where you can get cocktails.
