It hurts to write this review about a "micro business" :( Finally got to try Le Phant on my 3rd visit attempt. On my first attempt, they were closed in the middle of a weekday. On my second attempt, they closed at 2PM on a Sunday, so I was turned away. Weird business. I see people saying to check their instagram for hours updates but an average customer doesnt check a business' social media before visiting..... So I finally got to try Le Phant on my 3rd visit attempt, and discovered that they reduced their menu by half.....which was really disappointing to see after waiting in line to order at the kiosk. Nothing posted at the door about the reduced menu. Found out later by looking online to see that one of the owners was on mat leave. Very small interior. It was a hot day so people were crowding inside and I did not get a chance to see look at their paper menu. Ended up paying $7 for an iced tea which wasn't worth it. It was fine, but very average. read more

This is my favorite matcha by UCLA!! The hojicha is good as well. I like the boba milk teas, but the cups are a bit small so it's not where I'd go for the best value. Also, sometimes in the afternoon, the milk teas aren't available (when it's too late to brew more tea). The matcha here is creamy and earthy yet sweet. Most other matcha places in West LA have watery matcha, so I'm glad the matcha here is better. They use lactose-free milk by default. The shop is small and there is no seating inside. There are just two large tables outside, so you'll likely need to sit around strangers. Service is good, but a bit slow because of how small the store is. Keep an eye out for good deals!! They often have special promos that are great value. During promos the lines can be long, but they're still worth it in my opinion. read more

I tried the viral coconut matcha here and it was pretty good! I lowkey was expecting this to be mid and just a gimmick, but the matcha and coconut combination was actually pretty good. The matcha cream was smooth, flavorful, and not too bitter nor dry. Good quality. The sweetness and smooth texture of the coconut water was refreshing and provided just the right amount of sweetness. The two components combined was super satisfying. I also liked that it functioned as a fresh dessert with fresh coconut chunks that you can scoop and eat with a spoon. They also gave me a cup of the coconut water used which was also sweet and refreshing. The barista was also super nice and you can tell that he enjoyed his job and interacting with the customers. I ended up picking the high mountain oolong milk tea. Don't know what happened but the seating is locked up so not much of a café or place to study, which loses its appeal. Drinks were made fast, but I wasn't allowed to ask for no ice in one of my drinks? I even prefaced that I understand and accept the fact that my drink will look less than what I paid for. Wow, I am pleasantly surprised and impressed! I've been searching for a place close to UCLA that has good matcha without having to go all the way to Ktown and Le Phant delivered. We ordered the double matcha and it was absolutely delicious. It was a perfect balance of sweet paired with the strong bitterness of the matcha, which I loved. The cream top was satisfying to sip on. I would say it's as close as you can get to Rok's double matcha without having to travel far if you're from the area. Service was super friendly. First off, parking can be crazy here but luckily we came here early since I had a training to do and was in the area. We got the cinnamon toast crunch double matcha and the double matcha!! Both were really delicious. The cinnamon toast crunch is only there for a limited time so make sure to give it a try! Would definitely recommend this place. Service was really friendly as well. The inside was small and there's only a section to order and to pick up your order. There were tables and chairs outside but we were there super early so the chairs wasn't put down yet. Great to find a tea place where the owners/staff really care about their product and source good quality tea. The store is pretty inside. Not a place to sit and sip, but order and drink outside. Got some guidance on products and I got the silk top pure (okumidori) matcha, which has to be sipped within 5-10 minutes or the components start to mix together. It was really delicious. The silk top is a thickened, creamy, slightly sweet milk that you get a little bit of with each sip of the slightly nutty matcha. The flavor is amazing. Would absolutely get again. Got a sayang oolong milk tea with boba to go. Was at least half an hour before I got to try it so I'm not sure what it would have tasted like fresher but it was decently tasty. Boba was unnecessary as there was nothing amazing in its texture or taste, didn't add to the drink experience. I wanted to get a cold brew oolong which is usually brewed/steeped for 48-72 hours to get the max flavor and apparently is very tasty. But I was told that the matcha I got was equivalent to 2 matcha drinks worth of caffeine already, since it's a little more potent. A day's worth! Strongly recommend coming here, and I plan to come back when I can. read more

This is a tea place for tea connoisseurs! They have 48-72 hour cold brews...I mean what other place do you know that does that! And then you can drink them with a Silktop (cream foam) that they make. Im a huge foam topping person--sweet foam or cheese foam, I love it all. But when I came in on Tuesday night, they are sold out of those; so, I ordered the Double Matcha which comes with a matcha foam. I ordered it with light ice and 30% sweet. Wow! It was delicious. It's made with ceremonial grade matcha, lactose-free milk, house made matcha cream, and then sprinkled with matcha powder on top. It also comes with a warming if high caffeine content ;) (just how I like it!) You get the matcha flavor with a little something extra because of the matcha cream. I immediately text my friend who works nearby, and she ended up getting the same thing the next day. The second day, I decided to try their milk tea and ordered the 16 oz Sayang Oolong Milk Tea with Silktop, 30% sweet, and light ice. This was delicious as well and perfectly balanced! I also enjoyed snacking on the candied tea sprinkled on top! I really don't think you can go wrong with your choices here. So, if you're a big tea fan, I highly recommend you try it! I came when they were sold out of their silk top teas :(. So I only got to try the barley silk top. Barley silk top was very good!! The silk top is super creamy, tea is flavorful. Wasn't a fan of the crunchy bits at the top though. Note their base price is 12 oz so you may want to upgrade the size. My hubby got the golden elephant black milk tea. He said it was smooth and creamy. Tea flavor is strong but I think it could be stronger. Both drinks at the recommended 60% sweetness is perfect. They were also sold out of tea jelly so we got no toppings. Prices are a bit pricey. Expect to spend $15+ on two drinks. Also their store hours are kinda funky. I tried Le Phant for the first time after getting lunch with my friend in Westwood last Wednesday. We originally came because my friend wanted to try their fruity teas, but the menu didn't have any fruit tea drinks during our visit. According to their Instagram, they are testing before putting some new fruit drinks on the menu, and I think they change the menu depending on the season (there were previously strawberry and guava drinks in the past). There was no line when we arrived, and the one girl who was working there greeted us and told us to ask if we had any questions. My friend ordered the Sayang oolong milk tea at the recommended sweetness level of 60%, and I got the okumidori matcha latte at the recommended sweetness level of 60% as well. A line started forming while we were waiting for our drinks, so it seems like a popular place with UCLA students. When the worker gave us our drinks, she recommended mixing well before enjoying. The inside of the small storefront has a very clean modern aesthetic and a large mirror with the Le Phant logo on it for taking cute pictures. There is no seating inside because it is not a huge space, but there are two large picnic tables outside that we sat at to enjoy our drinks. My friend's Sayang oolong milk tea was delicious (would recommend), but I do think 60% sweetness was a little too sweet for my liking (I normally order 50% at boba shops for reference) so I would probably get 30% next time for their standard milk teas. My okumidori matcha latte was a good sweetness for me at 60% though. The color was a gorgeous vibrant green, but it tasted a bit strongly of plant-based milk (felt like it overpowered the matcha), so I probably wouldn't get it again. But it was a well-made matcha latte, and I still enjoyed my drink. Overall, I think Le Phant is a great addition to the boba tea shops available in Westwood! You can tell that they care about the quality of what goes into and how they make their drinks based on the simple menu and exquisite taste. I'm a coconut water matcha fiend and this was hands down the absolute best I've tried all summer. Unfortunately yesterday 8/23 was the last day and I was amongst the last 4 to purchase. The quality of the coconut water was so refreshing, delicious and tasted so fresh. The matcha was incredible. It was a perfect amount of sweet and the matcha shined through tasting umami. It was not dry, vegetal or bitter. It did not have an aftertaste. As I said it was perfect. The interior of the shop is small and quaint yet I was still able to fit my stroller. They have a tablet for ordering and it seemed like only one person (might be the shop owner) was making all of the drinks!!! Got the Jasmine Green Milk Tea at 30% sweetness which was actually pretty perfect for me since I am trying to drink less sweet. However it was more milky than tea flavored. I added the green tea jelly as a topping - I wish it was a little chewier as I've had tea jelly from other places. This one was more hard in texture like agar boba. However they did have pretty good service, when I asked about sweetness - they said they could start me at 30% and adjust if I didn't find it sweet enough. It's a small location so not really a place for studying or chatting (no tables and chairs) but easy to get in and out fast. I do feel like it's a bit pricey for the size of drink you are getting. I'm interested to try their seasonal drinks - they said the strawberry seasonals are with handmade strawberry puree and once they are out of the puree each day, they are sold out that day. Stopped by this cozy little tea shop near UCLA/Westwood after seeing flyers for their Back to School promo of $3 premium milk teas and $4 silktop cold brews on 9/20, 9/26, and 9/27 (12oz only). I decided to try out their Sayang Oolong Milk Tea with Tea Jelly, which was described as having peach and honeysuckle flower notes. I got it at 50% sugar with normal ice, since there was an extra charge for no ice. Unfortunately, their tea was a bit underwhelming. The tea flavor was not very strong and it tasted more milky than anything. I couldn't really taste any of the peach or floral notes that were mentioned either. The tea jelly was okay, and I wish the texture was a bit softer. The shop has a clean and modern aesthetic though it is quite small inside, so it's more of a grab-and-go. I wasn't really impressed by the drinks, but the barista that welcomed me was really friendly, welcoming, and happy to answer questions. Their elephant logo is also really cute.
