    Bakery truck

Every time I have passed by Volker's Bakery, I've hoped to patronize them, and every time, any day, whether morning, noon, or night, it has been closed. The exterior appears rather downtrodden, but I thought the peeling paint and neglected landscaping might be deemed charming, depending on what is located within. Last Friday around 2pm, I arrived in Kamas, and lo and behold, Volker's cute wooden house-shaped trailer was open just west of the bakery. This was the first time I've seen it (normally the means of selling their wares at local farmer's markets) open here, but I do wonder if perhaps they now use the brick and mortar space for food preparation only. Regardless, here was the long sought after opportunity to get my hands on their baked goods, and I quickly swerved into the bakery's parking lot, walking the short distance to the truck. On the way, I girded my loins, ready to serve back whatever attitude I received from the snarky woman I expected to find inside, based on pretty much all Yelp reviews. Happily, this was entirely unnecessary, as she was nice and helpful, even offering suggestions when I struggled to decide between two items. Offerings consist of about ten bread varieties, filled pastries, and their house made dips. I selected a rosemary garlic cheese loaf, almond pastry, and blueberry pastry. Individual items are not marked with prices, but I paid about $15 for everything, so...a tad high, in my opinion. The almond was my favorite, and rather than the usual marzipan-esque filling, it featured chopped almonds, with a decently flaky exterior. The much raved about bread was disappointing. Fine, but the texture reminded me of much-too-soft super white Wonder Bread. I do have a high preference for crusty and toothsome sourdough loaves, so take that as you will. In an attempt to keep things fresh, all items were either pre-bagged, or covered in plastic, and I do wonder if that contributed to the limpness of their offerings, and if, fresh out of the oven, they might offer a crunchier exterior and better texture all around. Still, if your desire is baked sweets, you only have to venture a 1/2 mile to Kamas' famed Chevron, where you'll find superior treats at a much lower price. As far as bread goes, at least for me, I'll stick to the homemade version. Some of my favorite (and honestly, much more skilled) versions have been baked at home by those dear to me.

Volkers was at the farmers market in Salt Lake City and I was pumped to try it... but I was very very very dissatisfied. First, it started with the man working. He was very unpleasant. He acted like he was annoyed from the second we asked a question about the pastries. Nothing was labeled but he acted like he didn't want to tell us what things were. Next, the prices were kinda high. I think these came about to over $15 just for these two items. Lastly, the items weren't that great. They strudel had great texture, but some flavor was missing. Same for the ham and cheese croissant.

Volker's had a food truck in park city last winter that my mom and I enjoyed. Bought so much bread and pastries. Everything was great! Came to the holiday gift show at the event center and purchased ham and cheese croissant, an amazingly yummy fruit topped pastry with blueberry cream as well as 2 focaccia breads. Artichoke, pepper and parsley as well as pesto and olive. I warmed half of the artichoke focaccia in the oven for about 15 minutes and then we attempted to pull chunks off of it to eat with our pasta. It was raw. Still dough. I've made focaccia quite a few times myself and know what the texture should be like. It should be like bread. Not raw dough. Hoping if we cook the other half it will turn out ok. Also really hoping the pesto olive loaf I froze for turkey day isn't like the artichoke. What a waste of my hard earned money!

I've tried...many times with Volker's but all my experiences have been very similar. I went to the Park City Farmers Market today (9/22/2021) and the Volker's stand was prominent and I decided to buy one of their breads. I spoke with one of the guys behind the counter and I decided on the Jalapeno/cheese bread. I bought it without looking at the underside and lo-and-beyond it was barely cooked and a very light brown, very "doughy". This is not the first time this has happened to me at Volker's. They don't seem to know how to bake/brown the bottom to make their bread crusty and it always turns out barely cooked and doughy. Very unappetizing and I wound out throwing the entire bread out. I'm being generous by giving Volker's 1 star as I would have given them zero (0) stars if available. I definitely do not recommend Volker's breads and I suggest going to The Market in Park City and look at their Red Bicycle Bakery breads.

The pasty I had from here was ok. Nothing special to make up for the lackluster customer service or the fact that I purchased an expensive sauce, only to get home and discover that it had a rubber band floating around in it that just ruined it for me. I'm not fond of EATING RUBBER with my bread. Wasted money and lack of quality control always raised other concerns as well. No thanks.

They have a new manager and she was happy to share with us all the different options that they had for the day. Everything is baked fresh in house. This is more of a European style bakery with some delicious hot lunch items and hot breakfast items that include breakfast burritos made in house as well as breakfast sandwiches. They also have the most delicious bacon, turkey and cheese sandwiches that are hot and grilled to order. We decided to try some of their fresh pastries, as well as a hot sandwich and a breakfast burrito. One of them had incredible flavor. The pastries were flaky and light. Strongly recommend stopping into this bakery. It's sort of a hidden gem and off to the right hand side of the resort when you arrive and there is a small sign that is lit up that says open. I first learned about them when I was gushing over the dinner rolls at Z's restaurant for dinner. The server told me that they get the rolls here, so I made it a point to come back the next day for breakfast. They serve Starbucks coffee-which might be a selling point to most people, but I prefer something local. Starbucks isn't my cup of....coffee. The pastry displays were full of delicious options and I was excited to see such a variety of seasonal (Halloween) goodies. So fun! I was drawn to the gargantuan sugar donut but was later a little disappointed to find it gooey in the middle. The flavor was ok, but I couldn't finish the unbaked treat. Perhaps a smaller version would have cooked fully throughout. I'd definitely return for the dinner rolls or to try that fruit tart I saw in the case. Maybe another time.
