I went to get a replacement driver's side air bag due to a recall for my 2013 Volkswagen Passat. I live about an hour away and was able to schedule an early appointment and get in and out quickly. The technicians were knowledgeable and were going to perform another maintenance/repair, but couldn't due to a stuck screw. Instead of stripping the screw and doubling the cost of the job, they turned it down. I'm appreciative of that because I wasn't expecting to spend any money that day to begin with and they were honest about the issue. Manuel was helpful and kept me updated and asked if I needed any refreshments during my wait. The waiting room was clean, comfortable, and nice. Only one star because I can't leave zero. Dropped my car off 2 and a half weeks ago. The cluster was fried and my radio was saying anti theft like the electrical wasn't talking to each other. It would not start. My husband has been a mechanic for 20 years and did everything he could but only the dealership can reprogram all the electrical. So we drove 2 hours with it on a trailer to drop it off. First, when we got there, literally nothing we told them was noted. They had on file we were there for a full inspection. My husband had detailed exactly what was going on and what codes were showing. We sat there all day for them to say that I needed a new cluster (which we already knew and had told them) and that part was back ordered. They told us "if we order it, it could be here in a week or it could be a year" My husband asked if they could search other dealerships for the part. They found one and it would take about 5 days shipping, $1250 for parts and labor. Actually cheaper than we anticipated. 5 days go by and we've heard nothing, called and they received the part and should have it installed by end of day the next day (Friday). Call the next day around 4pm. Now there's another part that needs to be replaced and also has to be ordered. We were fine with that considering this specific part more than likely couldn't be tested until the cluster was in. Another 5 days and we called again. The part was in and should be ready to pick up next day. Call again next day (Friday) and the tech wasn't feeling good so wouldn't be completed until Monday. At this point I'm irritated because there has been absolutely zero communication from them at all. Call again Monday and they never return our call. Tuesday we get ahold of them. Everything is done, just have to test drive and we can pickup Wednesday around 10. We get there at 10:30 and they just have to let it idle for a while and test drive. Idles for 10 minutes and dies (so they say) so now they're saying another code popped for the fuel pump module. It would be another $230 for an hour so they can run diagnostics on this issue. Well what else can we do. Wait the hour and then they're saying it's going to be a couple hours to figure out what's going on. Now my husband is pissed so we're just going to load it up and see what he can do. They had said it would start but died when put in drive. That was complete BS. When we turned it on, most of my lights on the dash were lit up. ABS, break and airbags. My radio was still showing the anti theft as well and will not start. So nothing was programmed like they said it was. Their excuse was that we didn't tell them it was showing all these issues. WHAT! Not only did my husband explain multiple times the issues, can they not see themselves that all the lights are on and the anti theft is on the radio still. Blame the customer, great business practice! So my car is in the exact same situation as when we started. They did install the cluster and BCM, so good job I guess. I will never take my car back there and will never recommend them to anyone. read more

I wanted to express my frustration with the level of communication I've experienced throughout this entire service process. The lack of communication within your own team, and with customers, has been extremely disappointing. I've brought my vehicle in multiple times for the same A/C issue. I initially tried scheduling an appointment and even explained my concerns through your automated phone system, but nothing seemed to be documented or addressed. When I brought the vehicle in again, I was informed that the diagnostic had not been completed and that we were waiting on insurance. I then brought the vehicle back with a scheduled appointment, only to find out that there were no notes in my vehicle's file regarding the previous visits or the work that had been discussed. As a result, I was placed in a loaner vehicle. My car has now been at the dealership since Thursday/Friday, and today is Monday. I have received no updates on the status of my vehicle. I'm expected to return the loaner tomorrow, yet I have no idea whether my vehicle is repaired, still being worked on, or when it will be ready. This lack of communication has already affected my work schedule. I've had to reschedule commitments and have lost income because I've made time to bring my vehicle in repeatedly. I've also called several times over the past week and during previous visits, and my calls have simply gone unanswered. This isn't a matter of playing phone tag--it's that no one is answering or returning my calls. What's especially frustrating is that the dealership seems very prompt when it's time to discuss payment, but not when customers need updates, answers, or support. My local VW dealership (AV VW) recently closed and I was looking for parts. I ordered parts for my 2007 beetle. I called a week later and ordered parts for my 2019 beetle. They did not call me to let me know when the parts had arrived for either order. Both orders were paid in full upon ordering. That is just poor customer service! Then my 2019 beetle popped a code. I thought I would give them another chance. My mistake. The woman that I spoke to told me how much the diagnostic test would cost, even though I shared the codes, and that it might or might not be applied to the cost of the repair if I had the work done there. Ridiculous! She further explained that each dealership is a franchise owned independently as if that would explain the poor business practices. I called a different dealership and was told this was a well known problem and would be covered under the 120K warranty and the diagnostic would be applied to any work I had done there. That's the difference! I cannot recommend this dealership and most especially the parts or service department. Go elsewhere for your VW needs. read more

They can improve on everything. Every time I take the car in it takes forever. Half the time they don't communicate with you that your vehicle is ready for pick up. They won't let me apply a coupon even though we haven't paid yet just because the invoice is written. Shouldn't there be a way to edit or delete it and name a new one ? That sounds absurd. All of the bad reviews on the service side that you see ARE REAL. They charge 230 per diagnostic for "their time" for issues that have happened on my Atlas since we bought it. I asked if they can look at previous notes when they thought they "fixed it" with a software update or reset. Sure enough they did another software update, and said my car has dirt and small chips on the sensors which are causing the problems. As soon as I left the car was having the same problems, and EVEN WORSE added more problems. Now the infotainment center doesn't respond on the main screen (unless I turn it off and in a few times and say a couple of prayers), and I can't get cool air on one side even when it's set to 62. Yes they did offer me to bring my car back, but my time is worth more than the cost of continuously coming back for them to not fix the problem. I asked for refund and they told me no....because they delivered the service if dignosing that it needed a software reset and my car was as dirty. That's BS, I'm going to a legit mechanic. Oh and their time...for $230, someone connecting a computer to a port and walking away. How do I know...because the legit mechanic showed me. read more

I have bought three cars from Volkswagen Bakersfield, and I'm not sure why I keep doing it. The sales service is great, of course, but once you're past that stage, good luck with customer service. I've been trying to get in touch with someone for three weeks now because I received a notice from the DMV about tags due on a vehicle I traded in four months ago. I've called numerous times, just to reach someone who can confirm whether they submitted the bill of sale to the DMV, but I have not received a return call. The finance manager, Daniel Gutierrez, assured me that someone would get back to me, but no one has. Now, I'm always directed to a phone number no one answers or told that I'll receive a call back--which never happens. It's incredibly frustrating. This is not the first time I've had issues with Volkswagen Bakersfield. For example, the VW I purchased in 2021 had ongoing electrical problems. The service department ordered parts, but they never informed me when they arrived. On one occasion, I was told my car was ready for pickup after it had been in the shop for 30 days, only for me to discover when I arrived that nothing had been fixed, and the part was sitting in the back seat. This level of customer service is making me seriously reconsider ever doing business with VW Bakersfield again. read more

Final update as I've finally gotten the money back for my extended warranty and I can wash my hands of the situation. So after my last update a while later I got a call from the salesman I'd been working with in the past. He told me that Brad was no longer GM, they got a new GM and all new management and the new management really wanted to make things right with me. They asked me to come in for a meeting to discuss everything that happened and try to make it right. Against my better judgement I agreed since it was new management I decided to give them one more chance. I arrived about 20 minutes early for my appointment and I met the new sales manager. He said he was really busy but was up to date on my situation and my salesman would be with me shortly, we could discuss everything. I was left sitting in the waiting room for an hour, the salesman never showed. I finally tracked down the manager and told him I couldn't wait any longer, he told me he though a different salesperson was taking care of me, someone I'd never heard of before. I told him no one has approached me at all and I wasn't waiting around. I left and after picking up my check today I won't step on that lot again. The Jettas are not nearly as reliable as they used to be and the staff at VW are just so scattered and seem uncaring. I highly recommend you take your business elsewhere. I had a fantastic experience at Bakersfield Mazda, I was treated like I was valued and got a deal no where near what VW offered me. read more

I took my 2019 VW Golf in for 20,000-mile servicing. I average about 5,000 miles a year, which means I don't drive it much, but I want to keep up on maintenance. The service included the usual oil change, air filter, etc. I also wanted the air conditioner serviced as I am new to the area, which is very dusty. About a month after the service, I noticed a little bump on the hood. After a close inspection, someone left a tool on the engine and closed the hood. I waited for my in-law to look at it, and he came to the same conclusion. I opened the hood, but there wasn't anything on the engine. I called VW of Bakersfield, and the person I spoke with said he would have someone call me back. A few weeks passed, and I called again and was told someone would call me back. This time, a manager did return my call. I explained the situation, and he said that because 30 days had elapsed, he could do nothing. I contacted the BBB and explained the issue. I provided a picture of the protrusion. I asked if VW had spoken with the mechanic who performed the maintenance. VW responded with: "The client brought their car in for 20,000 mile service on July 10 2024. The client then calls back 58 days later and states we damage on the hood of their car if we had damaged the hood on their vehicle they would have noticed it within a day or two at most NOT 58 days later. if client would have called back in 1-3 days we would have addressed this concern the client did not call for 58 days , if we damaged the hood, they would have noticed the damaged long before 58 days Jason Doyle Fixed Operations Director As I mentioned, I only drive my car sometimes, so the damage wasn't immediately noticed. I'm not even shocked this place has a 2.5 star rating If I had to tell people to stay away from anyone it would be this place. I purchased my lease almost 4 years ago.... During that time I have encountered multiple issues with the car (2022 Alta's cross sport R line) ex: brakes grinding (aka "high performance metallic brake pads", lights coming on the dashboard with no resolution, prolonged wait times when services had to be done with no loaner car... and trust me, they don't care about your time, you're there all day just stuck waiting on them etc. today I went in to turn my least in... was told there is only 1 person at the entire dealership that does the inspection (Manny) and that he is on an hour lunch and to come back in an hour... came back in an hour, waited 10-15 minutes to be helped just to be told that now Manny is in a "level 10 meeting" and they could not give me a time that he could help me. So I proceeded to wait another 30-40 minutes until I asked again. The service department shrugged their shoulders and said "sorry, we can't help you. It's not our department and who knows when Manny will be available". Like at this point does Manny even work here? Did he go home for the day and they enjoy seeing upset customers? There was also another customer in there dealing with the same issue. The customer service and quality of the car is literally a JOKE! Absolute worse experience Ive ever had. I will be telling everyone I know to avoid this place. They had my car for over 2 weeks, all because the person in charge of communicating with my extended warranty, didn't know how to use a phone. My warranty had responded a day after leaving my car. I called a few times to see what the issue was but was told, "we're still waiting for a response". Instead of calling me letting me know "You know what hey, we're having trouble reaching out, let us know if you can get a hold of them." The issues was a wrongly sent email on my warranty's part. Nope, had to sit and wait to find out they're not doing their due diligence. I wouldn't have mind calling if it meant getting the ball rolling, but nope had to wait and figure it out myself. All the while, with each call of trying to sort everything out, you can hear how annoyed they were by me. Call my warranty and they tell me "They can call us. We approved the coverage a while ago". I call them and let them know the situation and finally they get the repairs going after a week and a half of my car just sitting there. They let me know it will be done asap. After more instances of saying the car will be ready, and them not communicating because I tell then I don't have a ride so need to coordinate it, it's finally ready. When I go to pick up my vehicle, the tech lets me know I have to pay for the diagnostic out of pocket when he explicitly told me if they find an issue and work on it that I wouldn't have too. Then the kicker, he lets me know then and there my tire went flat. Nice heads up pal. Found that very odd as my tires were in decent shape. Reluctantly pay them, because without a car I'm at their mercy. Say they can't do anything for my lost time, and refuse to take any accountability but instead blame my insurance for not communicating with them, that's rich. If he would have owned up to it, I wouldn't have been as bothered. Now the fun part. I go to the tire shop and see if I can get the tire fixed. They show me the damage to the tire being replaced, and there's a huge gash on the side wall. A gash that would have made my tire flat in minutes. When I left my car there I took some time to get helped, meaning it was not damaged when I left it. These guys are the worst. From here on out I will be planning any kind of service at another VW dealer, even if it means driving a ways. Make a trip out of it. I will not be going here any more, and I HIGHLY recommend, you do not either. read more

If I could give no stars I definitely would. As soon as we got on the lot they were wanting financial information to run it. I hadnt even seen the truck in person yet. They put an associate, Raven, with us and she knew nothing about it. She sat in the backseat and read the information directly from the website. Then sales manager Aaron lied about the vehicle. It was posted for $23K but after I drove it and said I was interested he said the catalytic converter was stolen the night before and the listed price reflected the missing converter. The price had not been changed and did not reflect the missing catalytic, nor was it listed as is. He said no worries that he would take care of us as returning customers of Family Motors and we are all family so no worries, hes got our best interest. He said he wanted to continue the professional relationship but you don't start out a professional relationship on lies. They are not Family Motors and haven't been for a few years. Then when talking price he told us I would need to purchase a catalytic converter to be replaced which drove the cost up. The price had not been lowered as he first stated, it was just an opportunity for him to make a bigger commission. He said or I could have it replaced after the purchase on my own. It is against the law for a dealership to sell a vehicle without a catalytic converter, its against EPA regulations. He argued that it already passed smog, but CA law states that it must be able to pass smog as soon as the vehicle leaves the lot. He was clearly pissed when I told him as he walked away and came back with a "deal" on the replacement catalytic. Again, it said nowhere on the dealer website that the catalytic was missing. It also listed all the specs and included options already installed, but it actually didnt have many of them. It was as if they copy and pasted the information from another similar vehicle. It was like a ploy to get you in the dealership just to be hounded to sign so they could get rid of it. I couldn't even count how many times they told us they had quotas to meet and they are commission based sales, especially Aaron. Aaron took a backseat to the sale by allowing other inexperienced associates try to close the deal, but definitely wanted his name on it for the commission. It is very unprofessional to pass along their quota need to the customer and telling me numerous times that they are commission based. I don't like being hounded by several employees when trying to make a decision. Especially for a $26K decision. I planned on working only with Aaron because I don't like all the back and forth, it should be cut and dry with all information presented accurately and honestly with him seeing the entire sale. Long story short, it was too good to be true. The truck was not as listed and it pissed him off when I printed out the information and questioned him about the specs. He had no answer except " I don't know", " I'll look into it", and " the price reflects whats missing". Again, not as advertised and not listed "as is". Over the course of 3 days there were 6 different associates that I dealt with and all of them were pushy for us to just sign. They called and messaged me nonstop trying to instill fear of missing out so I would just sign. I decided I wanted the truck and started the process only for Aaron and Maria in finance to drop the ball. I gave all the requested financial information and left a $500 deposit just for them to run it then ignore our calls and texts. Maria called me from her personal phone and said she would work on it then ignored my messages. When we finally got ahold of her the next day she said she was busy with customers the night before. I was also a customer and I was waiting to hear from them on the deal. Basically they didn't care about our business or as Aaron said "family" as they left us hanging and lost the deal. I never heard back from Aaron or Maria even after calling the main line, his phone and her phone and leaving messages for both. He lied, they lied, and they are not to be trusted. And to top it off I still have not received my $500 deposit back. They ignore the calls and have the inexperienced associates take a message. read more

Extremely disappointed with the service at the Volkswagen dealership. I went in to return my leased car (third time trying to return it) and was met with nothing but disorganization and delays. I was made to wait 35 minutes, only to be told that Manny, who supposedly needed to handle my return, wasn't there. They told me to come back at 1:00 PM, but when I returned, Manny wasn't the one who assisted me; Nicole was. It turns out Manny's presence wasn't necessary at all, which makes the whole situation feel like a complete waste of time. As my 2014 GTI seemed to be coming to the last of its transmissions life at nearly 160,000 miles, I figured it was time to explore getting into a newer & more reliable vehicle. Immediately upon arriving I was greeted warmly by Grace and a few of her colleagues. They gave me a fair value trade in for my car & I was happy to do business with them on the purchase of their brand new 2023 GTI they had on the lot. The exact same color spec as my 2014, just a whole lot newer and massively more functional haha. Why fix what's not broken? (Metaphorically speaking). The entire purchase process was the best I've experienced thus far. Constant communication and accommodation was felt from Grace & her associates. At the end of the evening, I got a great number for my vehicle and got into a brand new car with help from a superb sales staff. My standards for a car purchase have now been elevated. The after sell experience has been awful. Now that the car is sold can't get a response to multiple calls or emails regarding things that were promised and some that are required by law. Not sure what is so hard to respond back to an email inquiry. read more

‼Terrible Service‼ Whoever is in charge of the Parts Department does a terrible job! For 4 days I've been trying to talk to someone and for 4 days I haven't even got a call back nothing. If you can't even talk to a customer let alone call them back you shouldn't be working there. read more
