Never in my life have I ever had to deal with the most uncommunicative company in my life. We have been in business for 30 years and never would we ever treat our customers or clients this bad. If we never returned a customer's phone call I am sure we would have heard some how about it. Well VOLO BROADBAND out of Urbana is the most sickening internet that I have ever dealt with. The OWNER/CEO does not care about his customers. He will not return a email from Nov 1st about my router. So I called multiple times today about when the ETA is on my 10 am apt for no internet that we lost at 130-2 pm yesterday. And Jeff told me they left the office in URBANA at 935 am and everything coming out of everyone's mouth was a lie so of course I tell them I want to talk to OWNER OR CORPORATE and they tell me it's Peter and I have told them he's not owner I want to speak to someone else. We'll long story short they wanted me to speak to Peter is OWNER/ CEO. Omg so the guys show up at 11:55. Guess what I hung up waiting for Peter to get on the phone and it is 1:18pm and he still hasn't called me back to ask what has happened and could care less about us. There's sooo much more but I can't even type that much. But I was told if I put it on social media and Yelp he will respond real quick so we will see. What he does for me for putting up with no communication and lies for the last year. I am just tired of the treatment and would rather go back to Hughes net that treated us with respect. I have been trying to set up service with Volo for two weeks now. When I call to check in I am told that someone will be out "tomorrow" to work on it OR that they will call me back. These are both lies. I have called them almost daily for a week now. I am sometimes on hold for up to an hour just to get in contact with a customer service representative. When I ask for details such as "how much longer will this take?" or "what work is being done?" I am told that I have to talk to a technician about that. They ALWAYS say that they will call me back. The number of times I have received a callback? One. A 30 second phone call with Peter, in which he said that they would have to send someone out "tomorrow" to work on my connection. This was a lie. They did not send someone out until this past Saturday and yet it is still not fixed. I am not an unfair or unreasonable person. I understand that they have other customers and other priorities, and that I am not the most important person that they have to talk. HOWEVER, I also expect them to communicate issues to me. They do not do this. I expect them to call me back when they say that they will. They do not do this either. If there is one thing that I hate more than anything, it is being lied to. This, above all else, is the one thing that they are very good at. They will say anything to get you off the phone which means that they will tell you any lie it takes to make you go away. I will also add that when I went in to their office, they could not look up my information because their internet was down. I feel like this should tell you everything you need to know about how they operate as an ISP. They are pathetic, shameful, and disgraceful. read more

Bad and dishonest, compulsive liars, regular outages with unreliable connectivity, shady customer service, no management, mediocre prices. They will lie to you straight to your face! They will change their story mid-sentence, and send you on never-ending spirals of confusion! Their gigabit internet will only give you about 500Mbps speed or less, depending where you live. I think they throttle certain areas, and favor other areas (within campus)! Their customer service (telephone): Expect LONG periods of awkward silence! After asking you a question or listening to your concern, they become silent, until you ask them if they hung up! They also have none of your information on file and have to ask you full details every time. Their internet service: I had an outage that lasted for more than 30 days, and they had no idea what was going on! It never got fixed! The outage corresponded to the exact time that students were gone on break! Suspicious? Yes. And throughout 3-4 years of service, I got random drops and times of long outages; they never have an answer why (although I'm convinced there is something shady going on)! If you need reliable internet that doesn't have recurring outages, don't use this provider! They are selling "Gigabit speed" that is only 500mbps and usually slower. I once had these liars tell me my gigabit router and Cat-8 2000mhz ethernet cable weren't able to have gigabit speed (if I wasn't literate, I would have bought a new router and cable costing me over $150), then after arguing with them they sent 2 different technicians to find that there was a "hiccup" in their system that was the reason why, and this was after 3-months of them running in circles! This is just a short summary of the many issues I had as a Volo customer! If you need reliable internet, please don't use Volo! I hope this helps! I have fiber service with Volo and have been using them for about a year and a half. This is in an apartment unit where I paid for my own service and other ISPs were also available. I don't know if my experience extends to locations where there isn't any choice of ISP, since customers in that case would have less bargaining power. I never explicitly threatened to change providers, though. Short summary: I had problems with download speeds for a while during peak hours, where I would have rated my service as 2/5. After several months I was able to resolve it with the ISP, and I would rate it 5/5 now. I am rating 3/5 since other people may have the same issues. Full review: For a while I would have issues where my download speed (but not my upload speed) dropped very low during peak hours, sometimes less than 5mb/s. I first noticed the issues when streaming media from my VPS during some synchronized watching with other people, where the download speed was sometimes unable to keep up with playback. This was not reflected on the speed tests from speedtest.net, but I later figured out that more local connections had better speeds, including the default testing servers. I didn't record packet loss, but latency to my VPS was not affected much so I don't think there was increased packet loss, unlike some other reviewers experiences. It took a few months to resolve the issue after I started to more proactively contact Volo about it, but customer support was generally helpful and friendly. Other than this issue, the service was fine, with outages happening rarely. As with any other ISP you will have to go through a set of "usual tests" with level 1 support, but I don't think it can be helped since they wouldn't have the expertise to know whether the call should be elevated immediately, and they need to filter out simple issues to keep technicians free. As mentioned in the summary, my current service is 5/5 quality, but I rated 3/5 since other people may have the same issues I had, and I can't guarantee that you will have the same success with customer support. Also most of the time I do not utilize most of my bandwidth, so I can't say what speeds I am getting now, beyond that it has never gone below what I need to stream (between 5 and 20 mb/s). I haven't been measuring much since resolving my problems but right now (6:15pm) I am getting an average of 54mb/s, with the speed fluctuating between ~23mb/s and ~90mb/s (my apartment is only wired for 100mb/s connections). read more

I had issues for over a year. They lied constantly and only delivered working service when reported to the FCC. When reading their report back i found that they openly lied and twisted information. I'm forced to have their service at my apartment complex and that will be the exact reason i don't re-up my lease. If you have to do business with these liars make sure you document everything; packet loss, slow service, and every minute it isn't working. I will be documenting everything from now on. After having recurring issues with a former internet provider, I made the move to Volo. I've only been using their internet for about 3 months but I'm much happier with their prices and service than I was with my last provider. Instead of waiting around for 4 hours for them to come and install everything, only to have them not show up, they gave me an hour time frame and actually arrived when they were supposed to! I should say that you might want to upgrade your router, it made a huge difference for me. read more

Installation has taken over 3 months and is still not completed. Not only do I have to keep calling Volo every 2 weeks to get an update (and they never know whats going on), but they also show up unexpectedly without scheduling to come. Excellent customer service and good connection! I just spent an hour on the phone with a customer service rep and technician troubleshooting what had gone wrong with my connection. They were both calm, knowledgeable, and either referred me to someone more capable of assisting or stayed with the problem until we'd finally weeded it out. Very happy to be a Volo broadband customer. Just got a fiber install to my apartment when ITV3 refused to provide service due to lack of signups (very silly on ITV3's part, since most students have high turnover for apartments and they have done little to garner student interest). The service is actually a gigabit, you can tell from Speedtest that the speeds are only limited by backbone fiber up to Chicago, etc. The prices are very good for the speed, as compared to local incumbent telco. The install was very quick, professional, and cleanly done. (edit: 5/31/16, ignore this paragraph) On the downsides, you are getting a private IPv4 address with no native IPv6 support, but this is only really a problem if you want to run a server. This is easily alleviated with a VPN, and at gigabit speeds, I really don't mind. The IPv4 exhaustion has been ongoing for years, long before Volo existed, and old telco companies only have the advantage because they have been around longer. If you really need a public IPv4/IPv6 to your residence, you should probably look into business or metro ethernet plans. Nevermind, read the comment by Peter below and the Volo FAQ on their website, x.x.x.254 on your subnet is DMZ'd. You still don't get an IPv6 address, but that's an easier problem to solve compared to no public IPv4. read more

Horrible Internet service that goes out all the time. Right now it's out during finals week and that's completely inappropriate for a service that primarily operates in a college town. You're on hold for hours with them which is only pointless and wastes time. Volo is not worth your money or your GPA. Avoid apartment companies that use volo too. It's stupid to pay for a service you're not receiving and have your grades suffer because you're not able to study. read more

Very reliable internet! Moved into a building with Volo in September and I have been very impressed with the speed and consistency. I had one small issue early on and I called the service number and it was very quickly resolved. Volo Broadband. the best broadband in the world. power outages every single week. highly unstable connection. technical support staff who would never get back to you even they said they would. And best yet, you paid $400/yr for it. Thanks volo. Thanks for increasing my stress level right before my aptitude test for company at 3 am. Since the start of the semester, I have to basically call them EVERY SINGLE WEEK because they have internet connection problems. And tonight, I am extra pissed because they cut off at midnight. Are you serious? So I have to call a safe ride and get to a library in the middle of the night just because you have a so called power outage again? I find this ridiculous because every time I call, the lady said it's power outage. a power outage when it's so warm and nice out, not even snowing? And HOW do you even have power outages EVERY WEEK?! if that's the case, volo broadband should just look into their power supply. The staff was really unhelpful too. They don't know possible solutions to problems, they don't know when the so-called power outages can be fixed, they don't know anything. They will just keep on repeating that they will report this to the technician. I got charged $400/yr. This is the quality of service I get? I really want to like Volo. I get their service 'free' with my rent (which just means I pay for it without the option to opt out). I've had some inconsistent internet, and the first time I called them about it, they were great. But now, my internet has gone down, without any connection for more than an hour three times in the last week. If that weren't enough, when I call their 24/7 support line, I had to wait 35 min on hold. That is annoying, but if it meant they would deal with my problem, it would be worth it. But no, when I was finally taken off of hold? It was an Answering machine, asking me to leave a message. I'm studying for exams right now, and I have material that can only be accessed online. The buses are done for the night and this is screwing me over. I'll update if they ever call me back... But for now I would highly recommend keeping away from this company. read more

I get this service for free with my rent so I guess I shouldn't expect much from it but I can't stand it. I have had issues with it the whole time I have used it. Almost every night around 10 it stops working. I'm assuming it can't handle the amount of people using it at one time. It is very frustrating. Even when it is working it is very slow. if you want to watch something on Netflix or any other service, don't bother trying to do much of anything else online simultaneously. I can only speak for their fiber service, but we chose Volo over Comcast for our apartment and couldn't have been happier. Their fiber has crazy internet speeds, and they have great costumer service to boot. I definitely recommend them if you live in the area. read more
