Great selection, horrible prices. I browsed for a half hour and found plenty of great stuff, but there's no way I'm paying 25-40 bucks for records I can get online for 10-15 bucks. I like supporting local records and being able to touch the record before you buy it gives me a warm feeling I like. I might stop in here again because they're next to the half price books that actually has some decent prices.... but I wouldn't make a trip to go here. read more

After the Exclusive Company closed its doors, it was nice to see the employees come together to keep the store open, albeit under a new banner. At my age now 54 I would have thought my days of searching for new music would be over. But it's not it has only increased in with the loss of so many good record stores and in my opinion exclusive company is the only decent one left in the city I like their selection they have great prices on stuff and the staff is pretty cool as well. Not saying I can find everything I want because I like some pretty obscure stuff but for the most part at least I know I have one place or I can go and find something nice selection of DVDs as well whenever I'm in the mood for a criterion film they have a good selection without inflated prices. read more

I first went to half-price bookstore which is located directly next door. The place was so crowded I couldn't even look at anything. This made me go next-door to the Exclusive Company. This is a great music store located in a strip mall just north of Southridge Mall. You will find new and used CDs, vinyl, DVDs and assorted accessories here. We were greeted immediately by an employee. The store was clean and well organized. I appreciate not being bombarded by mold, mildew and horrible air freshener. There were less people so it was much easier to browse. My husband got a rare Jimi Hendrix album for $14. I got several records from the $.99 bin and I even found a Conway Twitty album for a quarter. Definitely stop in if you are looking for some good music or movies. PS. The used albums were absolutely spotless. No dust or dirt. They also repackage so the album is safe and protected. None of the used vinyl smelled moldy or nasty. Everything was very clean. read more

I purchased several records and have never had a problem. Unfortunately my purchase of 2 David Bowie records yielded some problems. Blackstar plays but is really wavy, Legacy however has a defect and clicks several times. I attempted to return the two today and explained the problem to the male employee. He starts by " Oh is that so...", I let that go and said indeed it was so. He kept repeating to me "Does it play", which I already answered. I've got several old records that "play", but I just paid for NEW, and not pre-owned. I asked him several time that I didn't want to argue with him I just wanted the remedy. Give me the mint condition records I paid for. Instead of de-escalating the situation however, he kept up with the mantra of does it play. I lost my cool and left without remedy. My youngest has gotten into music and we went in to purchase a CD today. They have a wide variety of used CD's and records. Ya know the plastic discs that play music? Anyhoo we went to check out and a register was free so we walked up. The guy with the lips tattooed on his neck told us to go get in line. There was one couple in front of us that were being helped at the other register. Then the guy calls us over? Couldn't I have just stayed there? This was the stupidest thing I have ever seen. I drove from Madison to find more cd/record stores. It has been a past time with my dad who lives out of state so every now and then I get this hankering for flipping through the crates. This place was much larger than a lot of the stores in Madison. The used selection was a bit lacking but in a world of digital download, I am finding that it is more and more usual anymore. Did not get much service but that is part of the beauty of stores like this. I did not have any questions and just wanted to look so no help was needed. That is how i roll. What a wonderful way to spend a day's pay - buying music. The Exclusive Company has long been a Milwaukee institution. They've been around since 1956 and are well-known for having many different genres and artists available. If for whatever reason they don't have it in their store, they will special order it for you. Unlike their East Side location, I never get any attitude for bringing my vinyl selections up to the counter. The staff is friendly and helpful. I could spend hours in here and gladly get lost. This particular location has been my 'go-to' in recent years for Record Store Day. Sorry Indie Kids, I think I just gave away your secret. They have a good method for getting customers in and out on RSD, and their selection of RSD items is the best in the city. They also sell videos, DVD's (not just music videos), t-shirts, some band accessories, music-related knick knacks, and much, much more. This is one of two Milwaukee-area locations of The Exclusive Company record store. I know, it sounds like a cool kid club, but if you need a solid record-purchasing location and have at least some desire to support locally owned independent stores, then this is your jam. Call me nuts, but I still prefer to buy CDs and records rather than download. There is something to be said about the hunt for new music, rare used CDs and vinyl as well as having the physical record and liner notes that will always hold a candle to clicking, typing, and searching online. Exclusive has a great staff at both locations, though I prefer the 74th Street location because the parking is better, the store is a bit bigger and has more easily defined sections. This place reminds me of the independent record store of my youth, Tracks (then Vibes; NE Indianapolis staples). Excellent selection of new and used music, killer record selection, and special featured releases (read: lower prices) depending on which performers are visiting Milwaukee. Occasionally there will be a live performance in this store (or a DJ spinning classic and new records); the East side (Brady Street) often features "in-store" artist meet n' greets as well as record signings. The 74th Street location also features 'the metal garage,' which has the best available in heavy metal, doom, sludge, black metal, hardcore, etc. You can also purchase tickets to select shows at the Riverside, Pabst, and Turner Ballroom here (great if you don't want online service fees or prefer not to visit downtown box office locations in advance). The DVD selection (both standard and Blu-ray) is solid and you also get a more than fair price for selling old stuff or trading in. On a recent visit, I was faced with the nearly Herculean task of attempting to spend $103 in store credit. Luckily, because the staff is super helpful and friendly, I was able to split the total and walked away with some new records and cash to spare. If you prefer to borrow/steal/download your music selections or just happen to grab music when you're at the mall or department store...eh, don't bother harshing your mellow by setting foot in here. I shop at the Exclusive Company pretty much strictly for vinyl. This particular location has less vinyl than the one on Farwell, however, it has a lot more modern vinyl than the one on Farwell. What a rare find for metal fans!!! The metal shed is where it's at in my opinion. They have everything including some rare limited editions. What an fantastic collection of rare live recordings. From classics like "Slayer" and "Black Sabbath" to "Mayan" and "Cannibal Corpse". The staff is extremely knowledgable and prices are very competitive...better than most retail store like "Bestbuy". The staff can order anything you want. They also sell posters, concert DVDs, and licensed music and TV shows memorabilia. I laughed out load when I saw "Walking Dead" ice cub tray. On this trip, Exclusive has earned its 5th star. Digging through some 45s, I find "This Old Heart of Mine (Is Weak for You)" by the Isley Brothers (easily my favorite song ever) for a BUCK! I took in a bin of over 70 DVDs. All of which are in great condition. I was expecting at least $30 when I left them there for over a hour to be looked through. I was very surprised when only offered $5 and some odd change for the lot. I was disappointed with that outcome but the store in whole is a great find for music buffs! A huge selection of records, CDs and DVDs. I also found their incense!! They sell the best brand of them there too! I was more pleased knowing where to find cheap movie/cd options and incense than I was to sell my things too them. Overall, the staff was nice to work with. When I don't feel like ordering my music online or just feel like browsing an old school record store this is my place. Decent selection and if they don't have it they will order for you. My husband recently ordered an import he couldn't find anywhere else and it took them a few weeks but they got it. They called the day it came in and when he placed the order they warned him it might be about $40. When we went to pick up we were suprised it was about $23. Good selection of music videos too. Personally, I like the place. It has a really wide selection of CDs, and the majority of the time, I can find whatever I'm looking for. I'm more of a fan of buying used CDs over new ones because a scratched case doesn't really mean much to me, as long as the CD is in good condition. I go there every so often, when I'm by Southridge. The prices are a little steep for me, mostly because I'm not really used to paying more than $7 or so on a CD, but sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do. The rock section for it is amazingly huge, with just about any band you can think of. Usually, when I can't find a CD at another spot, I look here, and it rarely lets me down. I'd suggest it to anybody really, because there's plenty of stuff you could want from there. They have posters, flags, movies, tv shows, t-shirts, plenty of CDs, and even shelves and cases for them. You really have nothing to lose by checking it out, because it is a really nice place. read more

I'm unhappy . I recently purchased a used Italian prog CD. Unfortunately, I discovered later in day that I was given the wrong disc. So now, I will have drive the 70 plus miles one way from Manitowoc to exchange the discs. I understand the world has bigger problems than this, but really, this is the sort of mistake I expect from a store that files Jethro Tull under "T" or Van Morrison under "V."
