We stayed in Cabin Fever. Pros- Staff was friendly and efficient. Our cabin was ready before the 3 p.m. check in time. The view from the deck was amazing, especially at sunset. The king sized bed was very comfortable and there were plenty of linens. Cabin was clean. Cons - There was very little seating - one two seater couch and a rocking chair. I know it's a one bedroom cabin but it's not one that I would rent again if I wanted to spend more time just hanging out. If you cook, this kitchen is definitely not for you. No cookie sheet, no casserole dish, etc. Very sparsely stocked. It would be nice to have a small table on the upstairs deck so you don't have to juggle a book, cup of coffee, etc. while trying to enjoy the amazing view. Shower heads need to be replaced or cleaned with limeaway - just a trickle of water. The t.v.'s are older but they work, they have a VHS player upstairs. VHS? That one left me kind of stumped. Since the cabin doesn't have wi-fi, it would be nice to have some menus from local restaurants. We ordered from Geppettos, which was really good and they delivered. It did take the poor delivery person 15 minutes to get out of the driveway because it was so steep. We will probably use Volunteer Cabin Rentals in the future but this definitely wasn't the cabin for us. The owner has put the minimum into the cabin and it shows. read more

I don't really know how these cabins are maintained as far as appliances and utilities, but here it goes. We've always used VCR in the past and have always received great service. Cabins have always been very clean and inviting. However, this last time really put a bad taste in our mouth. Check-ins are at 3pm, check-outs at 10am. We arrived and the cleaning crew was not finished cleaning yet. Not only that, but they left the cabin without finishing and restocking. Beer bottle caps were left in the downstairs area and no towels, TP, trash bags or soaps. While the trash (beer caps) was a little much, VCR. Was quick to apologize and give us a stock of the other items. We do not know if its just a seasonal item but there was also no blankets, we didn't ask for these but they would have been nice to have. Our cabin was advertised as having wifi but we quickly found out that while it did have a wireless router, it was not up to date nor large enough for the cabin we rented. A small 5mbps router, I was able to update it to the newest firmware hoping that would help. The fastest connection I was able to receive was .32kbps down and .21kbps up at around midnight. I'm sure this was due to the horrible dish (WildBlue) Internet service that was installed. It would also time out every few seconds and disconnect the service completly. Also the TV service (DirectTV) went out repeatedly with each passing bird. I understand that VCR can not control the birds that fly over the dish blocking the satellite signals but something other than satellite needs to be looked into. It did appear from the outside that cable used to be hooked up, so I'm sure this was to be a money saver switch. Very bad decision. Stove was in need of small repairs, stove door about to come off, eyes had seen better days as they appeared to have been used as a work bench. Front door would latch but one couldn't reopen it due to the bolt not moving. Pool cues all (3) were missing tips, no chalk either. Basement was musty we believe to have been from a previous leak from upstairs as a drain hole was in the ceiling. Some of our party couldn't sleep downstairs due to the mustiness and sinus issues. Batteries in remotes and clocks needed to be changed, some completely dead. As this review might sound horrible, I would like to point out that we did enjoy our stay. We made it work for what we had. Moved some batteries around, used just one stove eye, used the back door instead of the front and still played pool without the tips or chalk. We rain the A/C in the basement as low as it was stated to run and that helped with the smell. Would we use VCR again? Yes. Would we recommend VCR to others? Yes, just make sure that if you like to update your family or friends through Facebook or other social sites, check to make sure the Internet will work for you first by calling or have a good wireless data plan. read more

We rented The Pinnacle over Labor Day weekend and had our entire family with us. The chalet was beautiful and in great shape...the views were AMAZING and it exceeded all our expectations. The beds were comfy and everything was in excellent shape. We got married right there on the main floor with views of mountains all around us. A couple of black bears and a raccoon even came for the festivities! I hope to come back some day and celebrate an anniversary. Thank you Volunteer Cabin Rentals! The cabins aren't the best, if yours have a downstairs level there will be bugs, some windows don't have bug filters. The cabins with the pool tables are great, the beds give you a great sleep, and the hot tub is fine. Overall four stars because of the bugs and refrigerators aren't great. read more

Extremely Disappointing! We booked a 6-bedroom cabin for our annual Smoky mountain family retreat in February 2020. 19 days before we check-in we were telephoned by Volunteer Cabin Rentals informing us our cabin is no longer available to due to the cabin being sold to a new owner. Sadly, there were no options offered by VCR other than to refund our monies paid. Trying to find a similar replacement cabin within 3 weeks of arrival during peak mountain season was difficult. We had to adjust our dates, but we did find a replacement cabin costing $600 more than our original. By the way, the cabin we originally booked was still available for bookings on their website...not sure if it actually sold or Volunteer Cabin Rentals cancelled our reservation to re-book at a higher rate. My advice would be if you rent with Volunteer Cabin Rentals is to have a plan "B" for when they call and tell you the cabin you rented is no longer available. read more

Staff very friendly and helpful and fixed any problems we had. Our cabin had a very, very steep driveway that I wouldn't think it'd be safe to drive if it were icy at all, you'd never make it up it for one, and driving it down it, could be tricky with ice. But in the summer, we thoroughly enjoyed our cabin, and having our own laundry machines, oven, and french press coffee maker (since I didn't think to buy any coffee filters for the machine.) Would definitely rent a cabin through them again. read more

For the price you can't beat the cabin I stayed in! $99 per night was the price for northern lights. The cabin was cute and the perfect size for 2 people. Really enjoyed my stay here. The hot tub outside was covered and perfectly hidden away. My only complaints were that the couch and chair in the living room were uncomfortable and the TV/VCR/DVD combo looks like it came out of the early 90's. My complaints were not a big deal though because I didn't spend that much time to in the cabin. Overall wonderful stay, convienient to town and I would come back. read more

I have a hard time reading reviews by people that search the cabins, look for cabins in the KIA price range, with KIA amendments, and then complain that it's not a Cadillac. We have rented at other places before and were not sold the bill of goods promised, this was NOT the case at Volunteer Cabin Rentals. The cabin was exactly as pictured on their website, The staff was wonderful and very helpful, our vacation was wonderful, and that was last year. This year we are coming back and staying at the same cabin and have no reason to expect anything other than a repeat of last year. You can't go wrong with VCR cabins, especially if staying in Wears Valley. read more

We rented "Honey Bear" and the cabin was very nice. The views weren't exactly as promised because of some over grown trees that need to be trimmed but it was still very nice. Great cabin if you have a bunch of kids and want an inexpensive rental. I'm sure we'll go back! read more

Will be coming back soon! My boyfriend at the time and I went for a week and stayed at Southern Nites, where he then proposed! We are now happily engaged and couldn't have stayed at a better place other than with VCR. The cabin was very clean and the jacuzzi tub and hot tub were a great ammenity. The staff was very friendly. The private balcony gave you a sense of being in your own little home on the country side. We definitely enjoyed our stay and will be back soon! read more

Cabin is gorgeous. Unfortunately, the entire site was advertised as motorcycle friendly. When I booked the cabin, I stressed that we had 5 motorcycles and I was worried about the incline. I repeated myself numerous times and was assured that the cabins catered to the motorcycle riders. Arrived at night. The most horrifying experience with steep climbs and hairpin turns. The seasoned riders were shaking when we finally arrived. Never again would I rent a motorcycle friendly cabin from this company. read more

We rented honey bear. Don't be fooled the cabin isn't exactly how it is advertised. One thing that I found was really unexceptable is how there is so much trash in the woods and we could see them clearly from our view, not only that but I could easily tell some things were outdated like the TV, furniture, and even the utilities. I disliked how the porch was tilted especially where the hot tub is. The lighting sucks especially in the kitchen it made cooking a lot more difficult. One of the pipes for the fireplace almost got caught on fire which kind of frightened me considering the fact that its gas, luckily my boyfriend turned it off and we never used it again. I booked this two months in advance and you think they would at least leave us a generous amount of supplies (toilet paper, kitchen utensils, etc..) There was no spatula and very few toilet paper rolls. None of the trash bins are secured so every time we throw trash the racoons always get in it which is a little annoying. We also couldn't get the washer and dryer to work until the very last minute, I know I could've asked them to help but I didn't really feel like asking and I shouldn't even have to, they should of taken care of it before we got there. Whoever is the owner of this cabin clearly doesn't know how to take care of a cabin. If I were the owner I would consider doing some refurbishing especially for guests because not only do you want their satisfaction but you should also consider their safety. We have been addressing some issues to VCR and I'm glad and quite surprised they took the time to solve them, if it wasn't for their services I would of made this a one star. They installed blinds for us and offered us lids for the trash bins. Overall it's a decent stay, not worth the money. I have been to the smokies several times to see my boyfriend, and let me tell you there are way better cabins out there for almost the same price as this one (better views, up to date furniture, etc..) This isn't really worth the money in my opinion. I don't ever plan to come back to this cabin nor will I do business with VCR unless I'm desperate for a place to stay. To me the company seems like a bunch of liars with how they advertise cabins. read more

Many years renting various cabins from Volunteer Cabin and not a bad experience to date. From small family weekend get-away to family reunions, the cabins I have rented have been clean, fully equipped, and with amazing views. Prompt and friendly service for any issues was also a plus. read more

We stayed at the Wild Turkey cabin. It has just been completely remodeled. Granite, 4k flat screens, new furniture, flooring, outside seating etc. Really nice. Volunteer cabins are awesome! We rented the "Little Feather" cabin which has one bedroom and a fold out couch. The cabin sleeps four and is just the right for four people. It has two TVs, a full kitchen and a dining room table that sits four. It also has a very nice porch,a BBQ pit and hot tub. Great place to unwind! read more

Let me start by saying the Grand Vista Lodge is a beautiful cabin and the view was gorgeous. That being said, upon check in, one of the ladies at the desk was very rude, rolling her eyes and barking at us for being early. A simple "can't check in early" would have been fine. Then she had to talk down to me for having 18 people when the reservation was for 20. She said the cabin was for only 17, so why do you let me reserve 20?? Finally we get checked in after being told the porch, hot tub and grill had not been cleaned but would be by 3pm. It was 3 days later when I called to remind them the hot tub had not been cleaned. The porch and grill were never cleaned. As far as the cabin, the furniture had not been dusted. There were cobwebs hanging from the ceiling fans, dust so thick on the shelving I could write my name in it and the kitchen table was so sticky (even after I washed it several times), we could not even play cards without placing cardboard down first. The ceiling in the kitchen was leaking water from a storm that passed through. The garbage cans still had trash from the previous renter that we had to empty ourselves. The ground outside the front porch was littered with trash and the windows looked as though they hadn't been cleaned in good while. The pool table needs to be re-felted and the ques replaced. Despite all of this, we still have an excellent time. Housekeeping and maintenance needs some work. read more

I invited friends from out of town for the weekend so I rented a cabin from Volunteer Rentals. I was completely disgusted with the cabin. It was in bad need of upkeep and repairs. The bedspreads and bath mats looked like they had been there for a long time and need to be replaced. There were dead bugs everywhere. The pots and pans weren't fit to cook anything in. We had brought groceries to cook but everything was filthy so we ate out the whole time. Moved the placemats on the table to play cards and the table was so greasy that we had to scrub it down to keep our arms from sticking to table, was walking in kitchen and my house shoe stuck to greasy floor. The extra blanket in downstairs had huge stain on it. Were afraid to sit in chairs on porch for fear they would fall apart. I have rented many cabins in the area before and have always been completely satisified, with no complaints. This was my first and last time to deal with this company. Was completely embarrassed that I brought my friends here. Had to clean spiders and webs off coffee pot before we could even make coffee. Just curious what the cleaning fee we paid was used for!! It sure wasn't used for cleaning!! read more
