Salmon Pannini, Fries, and Sweet Tea.
Christie M.

The food was just okay. I ordered a salmon pannini. I was expecting a patty but the ball was fine. However, the sauce was missing so it was dry. The fries were fries. The sweet tea was mid. The service was good. The ambiance was pleasant. I will go there again and try another dish.

The after church crowd was here on Sunday and I completely understand why. The food was every thing it needed to be & then some. I ordered the shrimp & grits with a side of eggs. They serve breakfast all day and have a vegan menu. The restaurant is connected to an apartment building so be careful not to pass when looking for it. It has a black & white striped triangular umbrella hovering over it. The staff were kind and the atmosphere was extremely down to earth, but not ghetto. This is a great mom & pop shop that you should fed check out. Be sure to try a flavored lemonade or iced tea. They are tall and one was more than enough. I didn't notice any ASL speaking staff, it wasn't needed, but there is space for wheelchairs. There is also street parking so be mindful. Only downside, our table wasn't exactly clean when sat down, but it was obvious they were busy. Overall, this is a great place for brunch or Sunday takeout dinner.

My Entree = The Whitings Platter with two sides of Mac & Cheese and Green Beans.

Mt Brother and I visited this black owned establishment for the first time and was not disappointed. The workers were very kind. They greeted and sat us instantly. Very nice place and also very clean. We ordered the fried chicken wings appetizer and I got the whitings platter sided with green beans and Mac & Cheese. I also got an "Uptown". In other words, an Arnold Palmer that was really tasty. The food was very good. Literally no complaints. The pricing on the menu is very reasonable. What I loved is this establishment offers a true "Soul Food" experience. I plan to return again soon and I suggest you try it out if you haven't already. Thank you for a nice experience to the people of Vondas Kitchen.

Service was good...Just wish our server spoke up louder so we can hear her.. Black owned establishment.. Sweet tea isn't good at all, Nothing sweet about it, the strawberry lemonade is pretty good... The catfish and grits was good as well, fresh, hot, flavor and big portions.. Overall good place for breakfast and I will be back..

First and foremost super busy. Small homey feeling type of place. You can tell my the customers that it's the type of place that has regulars. Came in for some breakfast to go. Have the French toast with fruit on it. Delicious. The only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 was because I don't think I go the full experience getting my food to go.

Breakfast meal: Catfish, eggs, Parmesan grits, potatoes, fries.

Food was SO FRESH. Catfish was fried to perfection! First time here, will definitely be back. Customer service was great too.

Absolutely delicious for breakfast /brunch. I highly recommend the waffle topped with peach cobbler topping, the spicy chicken hash, and the Parmesan grits!

Fish and Grits

The best! I've had in awhile the fish was seasoned well and grits were good. I should have asked for soft eggs but, that's it. Everything was amazing!!

Vonda's Kitchen is my go-to spot in Newark! Vonda is a friend and a great chef and businesswoman. I took my Mom and wife to Vonda's for Mother's Day Brunch. I enjoyed my favorite shrimp and grits. Mom had crabcakes and my wife had fried whiting. I highly recommend visiting Vonda's if you are looking for an awesome, authentic soul food meal!

Has fire damage been corrected and Restuarant reopened?

I was there last Saturday (July 27th) and was not aware of any fire damage; my first time there. It was open but the awnings were being replaced.

How is the surrounding area. It's it safe to walk through?

Honestly its not the best neighborhood in the world, but its not the worst. Its directly across the street from an elementary school, down the street from a Church in one direction and a Masjid in another direction. I use to work around the corner… Read more

My husband ordered a hot chocolate with oat milk, rich and comforting, and my mom had a chai with oat milk. She enjoyed the flavor overall. Food-wise, my husband ordered the chorizo omelette and was very happy with it--hearty, well-seasoned, and satisfying. I had the salmon salad, which was delicious. The dressing was balanced and flavorful, the greens fresh, and the salmon was cooked and seasoned really well. I will note that the salmon portion was a bit smaller than what I'd seen in some Yelp photos, but the quality absolutely made up for it. My mom had the club sandwich, which was generously sized and filling. She also wasn't a fan of the soft-boiled egg that came with her dish, but that's more a personal preference--she's firmly in the "well-done only" camp. Our little one had eggs and fries and was clearly living her best life. A sweet highlight of the visit was when the owner kindly gave her a cookie on the house--such a small gesture, but it really made the experience feel warm and personal. The space itself feels like a true community gathering spot--comfortable, welcoming, and easy to settle into. It's a great place to work or linger, with free WiFi and a relaxed atmosphere that invites you to stay awhile. Overall, this spot feels cozy, thoughtfully run, and rooted in care. The food is well-prepared, the flavors are intentional, and the hospitality really stands out. We'd absolutely come back for brunch and a longer stay next time.

I ordered a latte and the chorizo omelette. The latte was smooth but the milk foam didn't quite blend in perfectly, and the art could be stronger. The chorizo in the omelette was really tasty and the potatoes were crispy and flavorful. But for me, there was too much cheese on top -- almost like eating a pizza! Great at first bite, but gets a bit heavy towards the end. Still, if you love quirky spaces and brunch plates that feel homemade, it's worth a stop.

It came on a mollete roll that was crispy on the outside, and everything worked well together. Definitely my favorite thing I got. The pastel de nata was also solid -- nice light, crispy crust with a smooth, creamy filling. The Brazilian cheese bread (3 for $1) wasn't great though. It was chewy but it didn't taste fresh, so it wasn't crispy and ended up being kind of dense. Same with the beef empanada ($2.99) -- I'd probably skip it. The filling was dry, crumbly, and didn't have much flavor, just plain ground beef. Overall, I won't be back in New Jersey anytime soon, but coming from California it felt really cheap for a local spot. If I do come back, I'd probably try a different place.

It's my favorite dish there, and it's consistently been excellent. As a special treat while driving back to New York from South Jersey, my family and I decided to stop at Tops Diner for dinner. Since it was a Saturday night and I know how busy they can get, I made a 9:30 PM reservation. After a two-hour drive, we arrived on time and were looking forward to a great meal. I ordered my usual Penne alla Vodka with grilled shrimp, while my kids decided to try something new: Pasta Alfredo with grilled shrimp and Amazon Fried Rice. The food arrived fairly quickly, but when the server brought my dish to the table, it came with grilled chicken instead of grilled shrimp. I informed the server that the order was incorrect, and he promptly took it back. A few moments later, the waiter who had taken my order came to the table with the dish and insisted that he had repeated my order twice and that I had confirmed it. I respectfully disagreed and explained that I never order chicken. Even my husband chimed in and confirmed that I always order the shrimp version. Despite this, the waiter continued to insist that the mistake was mine. It was frustrating because I didn't drive two hours and make a reservation to eat something I didn't order. Eventually, I received the correct dish, and as always, the Penne alla Vodka with grilled shrimp was delicious and exactly what I was looking forward to. Unfortunately, the interaction with the waiter left a sour note on an otherwise enjoyable meal. The food remains excellent, but being challenged over an obvious ordering mistake was disappointing and unnecessary.

First, the good -- fries traveled surprisingly well and still had snap. The Crispy Chicken Sandwich had solid flavor on first bite, and The X-Frango's size was generous enough to feel like you got your money's worth. But let's talk construction. The chicken sandwich came overloaded with coleslaw -- not the crisp, tangy kind, but the soggy, sliding-around sort that hijacks the texture of the whole thing. For a spot that bills itself as a craveable comfort fix, balance matters. The Mini Pudim? Cute in concept, but forgettable in execution. Because this was delivery, I'll cut a bit of slack -- texture always takes a hit in transit -- but for nearly $60, I expected more cohesion and less "eh." Would I Return? Not for delivery. I'd give them another shot in person, where crunch and heat can actually shine. Rating: TLDR: Snack Mania might scratch your fast-food itch, but if you're chasing comfort and quality, you're better off waiting 'til you can try it fresh off the line.

[12 pieces for $59.95] What was delivered was a joke! The total weight of the chocolates was approximately 8 ounces. That made them $120 a pound. They were simply packed loosely in a shipping box, so the box of truffles was shook and shaken all the way to our house and they looked terrible by the time they arrived. So an F for shipping. And the size, well as you can see they were nowhere as large as what was presented, as some were not even large enough to fill the space allowed in their packaging! For the most part they were smaller than a Lindor truffle. So another F for actual portion size in relation to what as presented on QVC. Finally the taste.... There was none. Shortly after, another couple came in and were told about 20 minutes. We were the only two parties waiting. When a table opened, the waitress began seating us, and the chef stopped her and asked the other (AA) couple if they were there first. He then told the gentleman, "I see you with family, and I'm not trying to start any problems." This was said while we were literally being seated, and nothing was said to us. It put us in an awkward and embarrassing position, as we would never intentionally skip ahead of anyone. As a Hispanic couple, the interaction also left us wondering if we were being treated differently, even if that wasn't the intention. Then the drink order added to the frustration. I ordered a hibiscus lemonade and my boyfriend ordered a regular lemonade. The waitress repeated it back incorrectly as strawberry, and I corrected her. About 10 minutes later she brought a strawberry lemonade anyway. When I said that wasn't what I ordered, the chef took the drink and handed it to the other couple who had just ordered a strawberry lemonade , saying it was freshly made and "they didn't want it." That was uncomfortable because I never ordered strawberry to begin with. Overall, the interaction felt dismissive and awkward. Mistakes happen, but the way this was handled -- especially the comments made -- left us feeling unwelcome. I hope this feedback helps improve communication and customer experience moving forward.
