Von's in Yucaipa has some plusses and minuses. Have shopped here for over 20 years. That being said, if you know how to use their "app', you can clip coupons to save money. If you don't, good luck. My biggest complaint is that in the last few months, they've cut back on checkers, which means LONG Wait LINES. July 3rd, they'd closed the self check area, and there were only 2 cashiers, which meant about a 15 min. wait. Secondly, their "deals" are so confusing, that it's really not worth the frustration of attempting to understand them. On multiple occasions, I've thought I was getting the "discount", but once I received my receipt, I was paying WAY more than I'd calculated. Because of these 2 issues, I'm leaning towards Stater Brothers bc their lines are short and fast, and their prices are easy to understand. read more

Ordered a personalized cake a little over a week in advance. Received confirmation that they received and accepted the order....Came to pick it up and said they didn't have it or make it. Wouldn't help. Wouldn't make it and all they said is no sorry and the person who bakes the cakes doesn't work on weekends. No care! Absolutely horrible customer service. My son was so upset he didn't get the cake he asked for. I called Stater Bros and they pulled a miracle for us (not exactly what we wanted but better than nothing). Don't come here for cakes. Well I've been shooing here for at least 18 years now, and I've always have problems with the deli part. They are rude and they don't want to help you. They don't care who came first nor they care to treat you right. It seems as if they are mad that you want something. Between my husband and I, we argue about who's gonna go, because we don't want to go through a bad moment, but we want some deli. And this last time a purchased an Amazon gift card, it was tampered, and I was a victim of a scam. They didn't care, they just threw this problem to Amazon and washed their hands and gave me a phone number to take care of the issue myself. They can't even look at the cameras and catch who did this? Nooo they wouldn't spend 1 minute of their time for a customer. I KNOW - NOBODY CARES ABOUT TOFU! What is up with the TOFU selection at Yucaipa Vons? There is rarely any tofu in the cold case! (EXTRA FIRM, FIRM, MEDIUM, SOFT, SILKEN) Are you selling out? Do you not stock enough? What happened to the inexpensive ($1.99) Franklin brand? It appears online, but there is NEVER any in the cold case. What day is it stocked? The customer service here is so bad it's unreal. I live 1 minute from here and every single time I shop here the cashiers are so rude and terrible. i've been accused of stealing almost every time i've come by that uptight lady with the butthole lips and black hair. she normally cashiers or watches everyone at self check out. she accused me of stealing and then refused to look at my receipt when i told her to check it. I didn't have a great experience--I was met with attitude from an employee (Emma I believe?) when I was just hoping to get some direction on where I could find some items. Met the same girl again when I was at check out--was kind of hoping I was just overthinking about her initial treatment of me so I tried to make small talk ("How was your day?")--didn't get a response back and as she was bagging my groceries she put her hands all over my produce. Went into Vons Yucaipa I just moved into the area and went to the deli counter waited 15 minutes and was never acknowledged. There were 6 employees walking around the deli area stocking and talking to each other. I finally asked if the deli was closed and the person that looked to be the lead person gave me a dirty look and said we will be with you in a minute. I have shopped at the Vons in Yucaipa, CA for a number of years as well as the one in Redlands, CA. As I live in Beaumont, I tend to travel to the Yucaipa location as it's a bit closer, however, I will now most likely stop going there and may shop elsewhere. For context, I have two Stater Bros markets less than ten minutes from me, but have chosen for years to drive to Vons because of the deli meat, specifically, Diestel Farms. During this past year (I can't remember how long it's been) there is a newer employee in the deli center who lacks good customer service. Several times I have left frustrated, feeling angry, disrespected, and confused- all because of this one employee. His name, I learned today only because someone else said his name, is Richard (he has never worn a name tag). Every time he fills my order I feel contempt coming from him. He is just barely polite (he NEVER uses polite terms such as please, thank you, you're welcome etc...) and there is always a layer of passive-aggressiveness just under the surface. Richard is seemingly off-put when he has to go to the back to get a ham or turkey that is not the case (never says, it's in the back, I'll be right back) and this is evidenced clearly by his body language. He never asks if I want something else, just assumes that's it, never asks what kind of slice or holds it up for me to look at, never smiles, is never friendly, and frequently goes well over what I ask for weight-wise. During the month of November, I asked for, I believe Honey Ham. When I got home I found it was Honey Turkey. As I live about 20-25 minutes away from the store and do not have time to go there on a weekday, we just sucked it up. The next week I asked him to please make sure it was ham and explained what happened. He didn't offer an apology or anything, but was rude and said in an accusatory way that I could have just brought it back in. Yes, that was true, but I wasn't angry about it, just wanted to let him know what happened and to please be careful. Honestly, he probably didn't want to go to the back and get the correct item. That would completely track with his usual demeanor. Today I asked for a ham, asked to see the slice thickness (very much irritated him), and then asked for another ham. I asked him for a half pound for him to please not go over that amount. During this visit, the contempt he has for me was plainly evident, yet I continued to be polite and respectful towards him. He sliced the ham and put it on the scale. It was .39 and he asked if that was good enough for me. The demeanor, word choice, tone, etc.. just were the last straw for me. I told him sure, fine that was fine. I let him know that every time I come in he is difficult and rude with me. I was extremely upset to the point of almost crying. It's been months, and every single encounter (about 2-3 times a month on average) has been with hostility. I am a polite person. I treat people with kindness. I am always extremely nice to people in service. He has an issue with me and maybe other women, but I will have to change locations, or stores in general in order to avoid having to continue to deal with this man- and it will be at a huge inconvenience to me as well as extra-expense (on top of what I was already willingly paying) for gas. I have NEVER written a complaint about a worker and while I have often wanted to about Richard, never have. However, I maintain that a customer should never leave the store feeling like crying because of the treatment they receive from an employee. read more

Getting there: This Von's is located right of Yucaipa Blvd. There is plenty of parking in front of the store. Experience: I went in here for a small purchase, but no ones seemed to ask if I needed help. I did ask a worker in the deli if they had a variation of an item and she shortly replied no, without looking at what it was I was asking her for. I luckily found what I was looking for, so I was able to get in and out. This location does have a lot of different items than other grocery stores. I became really excited when I found out this beauty: Honeycrisp apples. When I lived in Minnesota these were plentiful. I love the juicy and crispness of this apple as your mouth surrounds it and your taste buds are in heaven. 10/7/21 - I stopped going to this Vons a couple of months ago because of their practices. A couple of days ago, I went because I was in a hurry and it is the nearest supermarket. I was pleasantly surprised to see they were reorganizing the aisles and added a "clearance" section, presumably for damaged items. I thought maybe they actually listened to their customers and made a good change. Today I returned to do my daily shopping. I stopped by the bean aisle to get a couple of cans. The first can I picked up right from the front was badly...obviously dented. So was the second, the third, the fourth.... I counted 15 badly dented cans, all right up front. I only stopped because I got bored, but there were plenty more. It seemed that I couldn't find a can that wasn't dented. Why are there so many dented cans? Okay, I'm not the most intuitive person around, but that seems like a profane message to someone - either store management to me, or some store employee to management, or something. What is going on there?!!! How on Earth do you get so many dented cans? Is someone damaging them on purpose? Come on Vons....get your act together. 7/7/21 - I checked again to see if anything had changed and it had not. The dented cans of beans were exactly where I saw them yesterday. I wandered down the aisle a bit and saw a dented can of split pea soup on the front row. I went to buy a new box of Ezekiel cereal, but only found one left - the same torn-up box they keep putting in front that no one will buy. There were no other boxes to purchase, which leads me to think they are either out of stock or management is not stocking the new boxes to try to get the torn-up box sold first. When I picked up soy milk, I found the same slightly crushed-at-the-bottom corner carton that is always interestingly in the front. I grabbed the undamaged carton behind it. Now, I am not really even looking for or counting damaged items - these are simply observations I make picking up several items a day. Image if a complete survey was done. It's been three days since the original review and nothing has changed. It's only one store and one section of one aisle that I originally complained. You think they would just send someone to remove the dented cans in the beans section, to at the very least shut up the retired guy with too much time on his hands, but I guess not. 7/7/21 - On 7/6/21 I posted a follow-up review on Vons - Yucaipa reference an original review on 7/5/21. I hit the "update" button on Yelp believing the original review would remain; however, the update completely overwrote the original post. In the original review, my concern was Vons - Yucaipa's obvious practice of re-stocking damaged items in the front row so that unwary customers would mistakenly buy the items and not discover the mistake until they got home and it was too late. The practice was obvious because daily I would place the dented cans of beans I found in the front row onto the top shelf and shove them all the way to the back. The next day, the dented cans would be right back up front on the original shelf. I called for Vons - Yucaipa to stop this deceptive practice and just place the damaged items in a discounted item bin. A store representative responded to my review (see below) advising that management was advised. The review below dated 7/6/21 was my follow-up check to see if anything resulted from my review. 7/6/21 - Yesterday, I wrote a review concerning an ongoing problem at Vons - Yucaipa regarding the re-stocking of dented cans (Please see the original review). A representative responded to the review and advised management had been advised of the situation. Today, I thought I would check to see if anything has changed. I was disappointed to find it had not (Please see the attached photos). I guess what bothers me the most is the deception involved in knowingly stocking dented cans with undamaged ones. I say knowingly, because it was fairly apparent the damaged cans were being re-stocked (Again, see the original post). That seems to imply intent to sell them as undamaged to the unwary. Customers take it as a given the items they are purchasing are undamaged. If mixing damaged items with undamaged ones and selling them at the same price is Company policy, then state that explicitly, so customers are at least aware because that is not the industry norm. To be fair, I have not checked canned items other than beans, but why would it only happen in that aisle? The reason dented cans are an issue, is if a can is dented the structure may have been compromised allowing in bacteria that could cause illness. Again...would Vons please just do the right thing and place the dented cans in the discounted items bin? read more

The Thanksgiving pre-cooked holiday meal came with no instructions- and was partially frozen when we picked up our order. So the fully cooked turkey took 4 hours to reheat to 165 degrees! Kiki (working the check-out register) was very rude to my wife and I. She told the bagger to charge us for 5 bags and the bagger replied we only needed 4 and she proceeded to tell the bagger that she's going to charge us for 5 so if she doesn't use the 5th bag fold it up and put it in another bag. How Rolled her eyes several times for no apparent reason. Not sure why she was treating us this way. Maybe we were discriminated. UPDATE: Kiki must of been having a bad day. Everything is expired! I hate doing shopping here! Last time i bought burgers and just before grilling i found out that it was expired 3 months ago! Also I bought expired yoghurt and cheese! Drive up and go service is a hard hit or a hard miss. I recently had a baby and this is my only option with my babies at the moment. Obviously with this service you are trusting who ever does your shopping for you has your best interest in mind. And almost every other time I pick up, my produce is bad. Ive opened moldy mushrooms and berries l, bruised apples and on one occasion, my melon actually had a hole in it with mold. Clearly smelled bad as soon as I drove off. But with babies, I can't just turn around and go into the store. Ive had my rotisserie chicken forgotten on more than one occasion and have been called to replace items that I know the store carries. Yesterday, I got a call saying they had no more Parmesan cheese? Just the packed kind. Really? It's bizarre to me and a waste of my time and money. We made an order through Insta cart for seafood, and the person working the seafood counter packaged and sold us bad Jonah Crab Claws that smelled of deterioration and decay when we received them. This is really concerning, and confusing because how can you literally not notice such a bad smell if you're someone who works in that part of the grocery store. I called and asked the meat department how to handle returns for bad food. The person that packaged our food just so happened to answer. While his instructions were fine, his nonchalant "sorry about that" seems very impersonal and carefree despite the serious illness that comes with seafood poisoning. When I arrived to return the rotting seafood, Mikayla was very helpful. She processed a full refund and a $15 gift card. However, the supervisor on the floor, Jonathan, was not concerned with the risks of selling bad food, similar to the guy who packaged it. He didn't even look at me, but did acknowledge the possibility of food poisoning with "sorry" when Mikayla requested a supervisor's approval for the gift card. Overall, I am concerned with few things. How long had the seafood been sitting there, like why wasn't it checked? Is this typical for other bad seafood to go unchecked? This has been my go-to grocery store for years now. Everyone knows my name and Mike the store manager is always quick to say hi. Today however, I received the best customer service I have ever had at this store. I ordered a cake from the bakery and when I came to pick it up it was not at all what I was expecting. I talked to Gail and she was so nice to get Kiki and Donna to look at my cake. Donna ended up taking it back to the bakery and spending the time to fix it. I wanted a patriotic cake. When I came to pick it up it had balloons on it. Donna made it into a flag. Pretty cool of them. So thank you and these ladies deserve raises or promotions. read more

I used to think Vons was superior to Stater Bros, and even though it cost a little more to shop there, it was worth it. NOW, however, I avoid Vons when I can in favor of Stater Bros. Ever since installing the self-checkout, Vons has gone way downhill. It used to be if there were more than five people in line, they'd open another check stand. Now, there's usually only ONE check stand open, and it's got 12 people in line because nobody wants to use the self-checkout. Not to mention that if you're making an alcohol purchase, you can't use self-checkout anyways. I still make my way in usually once a week, simply because they carry a few items I can't find at Stater Bros. There is a nice gentleman that's a checker (I think his name is Kevin?), and I feel awful that he, and other checkers, have stressful working conditions as they feel pressure to hurry customers through the very long line, and having to deal with customers who may be grumpy from waiting so long to get checked out by a human. It feels like Walmart now and I hate it. The past handful of times I've been in there I've left so frustrated. It surely has me questioning if those few items are worth going in for. If I stick to Staters, the cashiers are kind and helpful, and most importantly, human. (I'd give this store a 2.5 if there were half stars, because at least they have good selection and Kevin is nice.) read more

This is the only grocery store in town where I enjoy shopping. The staff is always so helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. They call you by your name and always say hello. I live so close to a Stater Bros in town but always go down the hill to Vons to get the more personalized service. Kim and Jennifer have are patient about answering questions about my medication and Monica and the other pharmacy tech's are wonderful and fun too interact with. I'm a little sad about the Vons that's closest to us. It's just not that great. The produce is always okay, but sometimes is really hit or miss. It's typically pretty clean, so no complaints there. I really enjoy a lot of the checkers, but there are a few odd ones in the bunch. There just isn't anything that makes me think it's trying to stand out as a great store. Sometimes my wife is nervous to walk in by herself because strange people hang around on the outside of the store. Come to find out, it's oftentimes the staff on their break. Smoking, and staring down customers as they walk in. I'm not an owner of a store. But if I did, I wouldn't allow my workers to sit out front smoking or even eating lunch. Worst delivery service ever. Horrible customer service. I placed an order for delivery due to being sick. The day of delivery the driver reached out to confirm the address then only 3 minutes later stated the delivery was cancelled due to the resident not being home. However I was home and have cameras showing no one tried to deliver. Called customer service and they said you have to contact the store. Called the store, spent 15 on hold to be told I'll transfer you to a manager then they just hung up on me. So I recalled customer service. Now they magically could reschedule delivery for me but I would have to wait another day. Fine they set it for 10-12. 12 comes and goes w/o delivery. Called customer service again. Then they say the store just started to pick the groceries. Why would they need to be repicked?! Either way delivery finally arrives and a majority of the items are missing or substituted however none of that is reflected on the receipt. So called customer service again. They tried to tell me to call the store. I told them they needed to do it. They called and said the products were no longer available. No other assistance was offered.
