I learned so much about swirls, different techniques, and methods for creating beautiful handcrafted soaps. What keeps bringing me back isn't just the wonderful atmosphere, but the staff as well. Everyone is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely passionate about teaching their craft. I especially appreciate that they teach you the right way--no shortcuts, with safety always coming first. They provide everything you need, guide you through the entire process, and by the end of class you walk away with your very own full loaf of handmade soap, ready to be cut into individual bars once it's cured. Raspberry picking was so much fun! For $20/3-pint flat (or $10/pint), we waded through the summer brambles and picked so many delicious magenta gems. We gobbled some raspberries straightaway at a shaded picnic table and made jam with the rest. A special shoutout to Josh, whose smiling kindness, excellent knowledge, and extra-thoughtful offer to split a full slushie into two cups for the little ones in our group made the visit even better. The store is wonderful, too, with homemade jams, jellies, and canned fruits and vegetables, olive oils and vinegars ($8/tasting), rustic merchandise, and a backroom bar featuring homemade wines ($20/5-wine tasting or $12/glass). Unfortunately, the experience at the order window completely changed the mood. We were standing there waiting to order, but the woman working the window repeatedly avoided acknowledging us. My girlfriend eventually had to ask if we could order, and the response she received was extremely rude and unprofessional. I work in the food industry as an executive chef, and one of the things I emphasize when training my staff is the importance of acknowledging customers and making them feel welcome. I completely understand having a bad day, but basic professionalism and customer service should still be expected. At that point, we just wanted to leave. We got our pie and ice cream and left instead of staying for the BBQ we had originally planned on having. It's unfortunate because we were having such a great day and were genuinely excited to spend more time there. Very disappointed lady came in as I was leaving, so I gave her a box. Prices are $5 per box, $30/half-flat (six boxes), $60/flat (12 boxes). Best strawberries anywhere, for real. The date shake was, pretty much exactly as advertised. It was a milkshake with dates. It was a nice shake: better than most milkshakes, I'd say. It tasted more...natural? But I'm unsure if the fact that 'date' was in the name had anything to do with it. The banana variant, however, was even better. I liked the kind of texture that the banana adds, and I would get it over the original date shake pretty much every single time. One thing is that it IS a tad expensive, but what isn't nowadays?
