Get the donuts (all of them if you can!) This was the one thing I needed to get to when I was visiting my friend in San Antonio and I was overly thrilled a Voodoo came to her town. So the actual Voodoo donut was good but nothing out of the ordinary. The star of the show was a flavor of the week or however often they change. Honey lemon Bavarian cream. Immediately I have to knock a star off because of the ambiance. Yes I get it, it's end of July and Texas is in a heat dome but damn was it hot in there! While in town on a work conference, I saw that Voodoo Doughnuts was around the block. The building is large - when I stopped in it was early afternoon and almost no line. We tried the Paradise and Maple Cream. The Paradise has pineapple chunks in the cream in the middle (so good!) and the Maple Cream was delicious! Why do landmark eateries feel the need to franchise? Sadly Voodoo Doughnuts, overpriced, funky and fun, works in Portland. It does not work in San Antonio. The space is cute, cleaner and better looking than Portland's original. It is in the middle of downtown. FIRST TIME VISIT! I'm a sucker for a good, glazed yeast doughnut. I'm a simple gal in that respect but walking into this shop of edible works of art, I was tempted to go rogue and face-plant myself into a scrumptious treat with sticky, crunchy and colorful textures. But... an obsession never wavers and I found myself wanting to test out their version of the classic glazed yeast, which they classify as a "raised" doughnut. My husband tried the Go-Tart which is decorated like a frosted Pop Tart and filled with a strawberry filling. He liked it! The chocolate milk I also got was delicious. Brand is Hiland. Incredible selection of of all types of donuts - cake, yeast, and filled donuts. We stopped by the San Antonio shop after the 4th of July drone show at the Alamo. It was pretty late and there was a line to the door but had a great selection of all types (probably 35+). Hubby said the Old Dirty Bastard donut was just okay, he isn't a big fan of super sweet things though. He also got a jelly filled and said it was pretty good. I got the c0ck and b@lls (costly at $5+) but it was quite large, (basically a long john with 2 cream filled at the base) it was very tasty and took me a couple days to eat it. Also got a powdered sugar cake donut for my mama. She said it was okay, nothing special. They also have a small selection of t-shirts, mugs and totes. Love the style of this location. They did a great job and the service & staff were nice and quick. The guy at the cashier was giving the best vibe & fashion style. Loved it. The space was funky and aesthetically interesting, somewhat hip and outlandish, with a chandelier and frills but a punk under root. Didn't wait too long to get our donuts and paid as soon as items were received. Also, coffee not refillable but it was $2.50 for a small cup/grande sized cup. Donuts range $3-4.50, not too bad for designer. Pretty fun donut joint, had all the fun and witty donuts you can choose from their signature voodoo with raspberry filling to other basic and extravagant ones. My first time here in Texas and was in the San Antonio area for the the University of Washington football game (Go Dawgs!) and found Voodoo Donuts. Let me tell. Don't let the long lines stop you. This was well worth the wait. Let me start with the service first. Very friendly and very pleasant, which is quite refreshing after the long line. Our server was Desiree D, lovely young lady. Now for the Donuts, we ordered 1/2 dozen which 2 were mine. I've had one so far (chocolate glazed) and saving the other for tomorrow. It's Daddy-Daughter time and we went downtown. It's Tuesday and it's free parking after 5pm. We stopped by @voodoodoughnut to buy some for breakfast after dinner at Double Standard. There were so many on display and on the menu and all were available. I bought the Mango Tango (a bit tart), Maple Cream, Caramel Macchiato (my favorite bite) and Bacon Maple Bar. So first and foremost this place is open late, so it already has my vote. We got here about 1:00 a.m. and there was a lot of people so we know that it's a late night spot. There isn't really a menu, which is a little bit inconveniencing, but I guess you just have to figure it out. When you're coming in, you can see the list of possible Donuts on the window. But there isn't one on the inside. But there are a few classes and display case that you can look at to see what you like and don't like. Sure you can just pick it up from there. The place is huge, used to be an old pizza spot but now it's a donut spot so there's plenty of room. There is indoor and outdoor seating. It's a really good Chill Spot if you want to sit around and eat pastries basically. You could actually have a pretty big party here!, give it a try. A lot of the donut names have really cool meaning for them, for example, there is a Marshall Mathers donut that has nothing but M&Ms on it. Which is pretty dope in itself. But there's so many combinations to try, is definitely working. Just be prepared to wait in line because it may be kind of slow but once you get there you're good. read more

I'm not sure how you don't give this place 5 stars. The attitude and location were great, and the staff super friendly. I've had the namesake donut a few times, plus various permutations of chocolate cake and soft donuts. I even liked the coffee, which is saying something. The line was out the building to the end of the pink railing and it took us about an hour to get to the front of the line but once to the counter the staff moved quickly to fill my order. You can't be in a hurry at voodoo because typically there is a line. My faves were the maple bacon bar and the voodoo doll. So many great choices for any donut lover including the infamous Homer donut. You guessed it, it's a replica of the Simpsons fave. Myself and two friends waited in line for about two hours on a Thursday evening. There was a line that was out the door once we arrived. Firstly, parking is something you should definitely plan through before your visit at Voodoo Doughnut. Trust me! We did a twenty minute walk to and from where we decided to park. Secondly, we were under the impression that VD would not be out of certain doughnuts nor milk and to our surprise, they were! No milk. No Buttermilk Bar. No Old Fashion. No Plain Cake. No to a few other doughnuts. Third, the STAFF. A gentleman assisted me and he was FANTASTIC. His customer service was GREAT. One of my friends; however, experienced bad customer service. She was ready to take off, but we persuaded her otherwise. VD was so busy. So so busy. I suppose since they had just opened..what do you expect. I ordered the Sprinkled Cake Doughnut and to my surprise was absolutely delicious! I wished I could have had milk to top it off, but maybe next time. This was something for my friends and I to do together and I am quite sure we won't be back any time soon - maybe when the hype dies down. Also! You couldn't see the open register on two of the sides. -Pick up cashier also had a line so it meshed with the regular line. (Confusing if you just walked in) -All of my donuts got thrown in one box and had no separation. There were people with allergies that could of been affected. - There's very little sitting in this location i counted 5 possible seating areas inside. This is the place to go if you want an indulgent donut experience. The regular menu is full of unusual choices, and there is a special donut as well. The maple bacon donut is delicious! I went to voodoo and got a maple glazed cake a cherry pop tart and a blueberry donut. I was going to eat the maple glazed cake and blueberry back at the hotel that night and the pop tart in the morning. The person who packed them put the pop tart on top of the maple glazed cake and the blue berry on top of the pop tart in a bag. When I tried to get them out the maple glazed cake came off on the bottom of the pop tart and the ice of the pop tart was all over the blue berry. It was a gooey mess that was not good to eat. What a waste. They should have put in a box and known not todo this. Can't say the donuts are any better than any other good donut place. I don't understand the hype around this place. read more
