I really love this coffee cafe, located in the Hemisfair district of San Antonio. I spent time here twice. Formerly a house, the interior of this cafe has a serene feel inside with comfortable seating. There is also seating on the front porch and a huge backyard patio deck. You order at the counter, which is right when you walk in the front door. Your order is brought to your table, wherever you may be sitting. On my first visit I had a croque monsieur, a deli ham and melted cheese sandwich with béchamel sauce between toasted bread. It was delicious and was served with potato chips. I also got a hot vanilla latte, served in a mug, which was absolute perfection. One thing I liked was the absence of laptop campers. I only spotted one on both of my visits. People come here to quietly socialize or just take a break from life for a few minutes. My second visit was mainly to get another one of those fantastic vanilla lattes but I also chose a chocolate croissant from their pastry case. The croissant, served on a nice dish, was fresh, flakey, and full of chocolate. I sat, relaxed, and felt like things didn't get much better than this. read more

Commonwealth Coffee was good, but not the best coffee experience I've had. The interior itself is very clean and has plenty of space inside to sit and relax, which I appreciated. However, parking was difficult and not very convenient. The coffee was good and smooth, but nothing that really stood out. It was solid quality, just not something I'd go out of my way for. One thing that surprised me was the price. My latte was listed at $7, but with all the extra charges for add-ons it quickly became $9+, which felt a bit pricey even coming from Chicago where coffee can already be expensive. What really affected the rating for me was the service speed. It was probably the slowest coffee service I've experienced. I waited about 15 minutes for two lattes, and there was only one other person ahead of me. For a simple order, that felt like a long time. Overall, it's a nice café with a clean, spacious atmosphere and decent coffee, but the pricing and slow service make it somewhere I'd visit occasionally rather than regularly. read more

The interior was very cozy but small so we sat outside. The employee was nice but she was swatting flies in the pastry display which made me not want to order the bakery items. For two iced lattes, a kid's French toast with berries and an avocado toast with an egg we paid $40. The avocado toast was nothing to rave about. It lacked flavor.. The coffee was good but not the best I've had in San Antonio. The French toast was the best thing we had during the visit. The location itself is what brought us to this location as we wanted to have a morning coffee and allow our little one to have fun at the park next to the business. You do have to park in the garage as it is almost impossible to find street parking. But that's common in this area. Sucks about parking here, no free or validated parking but I guess that's downtown. Cheapest I found was the conference garage at 10 dollars full day but it is a bit of a walk 10 ish minutes. Service was great! They were out of ALL pastries by 1 pm. This was so sad but also weird because as I was walking up I saw a tray in the window but they took it away as soon as I ordered and put them away (but still in view, other customers pointed this out but they insisted they were out for the day) . It's kind of hidden and tucked under a lot of trees, nestled in between the big parking structure and Bombay restaurant (at hemisfair park). It's very casual and although there's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, there are no servers. You order at the counter, receive a number, seat yourself, and they bring you your food. They have lunch and breakfast served all day. It's very light options. I ordered a dill chicken salad croissant sandwich and sadly I didn't taste any hint of dill. The croissant was too flaky for me and not moist or soft like a sandwich. The kettle chips were delicious though. I also ordered the tomato basil soup, it was ok. Service was wonderful and prompt. Commonwealth Coffeehouse has been my go-to coffeeshop for years! My favorite location is their original one in the Alamo Heights area across from UIW, but their Hemisfair location has a much different charm than the other one does. This beautiful coffee house was built inside a historic building within the Hemisfair and everything from their indoor to their outdoor seating area is absolutely beautiful. They have the same food menu as their other locations, however I think the consistency in their food at this location is not the best (but I still love them). This location can get pretty busy during the early hours on the weekend, so keep that in mind. But if you are looking for a place to work or have a meeting during the week, I think they are the perfect spot. I highly recommend all their pastries, especially their chocolate croissants. The only tricky thing about coming here is the parking situation since you do need to pay for extra parking to come here, but that is obviously outside of their control. read more

We stopped by for a cup of coffee and some breakfast bites and were so pleased with the experience. I ordered one of their specialty lattes, which was wonderfully made with smooth strong espresso and almond milk. For my breakfast, I got their avocado toast with scrambled egg whites added. It was served on an ample piece of bread with plenty of avocado, egg whites, seasoning, and micro greens. My husband ordered their strawberry nutella pastry. I had a bite and it was a delightful blend of fresh and flavorful strawberries, flakey pastry, and a generous drizzle of nutella--amazing! The service was friendly and prompt. I had heard good things about Commonwealth and they were all true! I had an early breakfast on this beautiful morning and it was delicious. The French omelet gives you options for your filings and I chose chorizo and spinach. My plate also came with breakfast potatoes that were super crispy and tasty toast. I had a chai latte to drink that was also delicious. Overall the service was great and sitting on the back deck was nice with the exception of the large number of birds. I visited this brunch spot on a Saturday afternoon, and it wasn't too busy. We placed our order quickly and received our food in no time. I had the French omelette with ham and bacon. The flavor was unique--smoky, almost reminiscent of barbecue, though it wasn't, which was a bit confusing (but not in a bad way). The potatoes and bread were a nice addition to the meal. The highlight, though, was definitely the coffee. I ordered a hot lavender and honey latte, half sweet, and it was absolutely delicious. My partner also enjoyed his food. While I wouldn't call this the best breakfast/brunch spot I've ever been to, it was far from bad. The place itself is adorable, but one downside is that there's no heat inside. We clearly caught them "off their game" this morning. With all the great experiences here, let me just focus on one poor item - the avocado toast. The bread was so tough that it was extremely hard to cut. It was only lightly toasted & not buttered (butter would have eased issue #1). The avo was not seasoned (just a dash of salt is all I expect). Finally, the smoked salmon was one, long bit (and honestly a scant portion for $4). Okay, the cappuccino was delicious, but I fear they were behind schedule this more as no baked goods were in the case and it felt like they were scrambling. For a coffee shop next to a convention center, you should have more than one person scheduled to open the shop. We opted for this CommonWealth location (at Hemisfair) since it's a short walk to the Convention Center. We dropped in for coffee and a light breakfast... and what a treat! As soon as you walk into this historic house-turned-coffee shop, you're greeted with the comforting aroma of butter and baked goods. (But mainly the smell of straight up butter.) Order your coffee drinks, French pastries, and breakfast at the counter, and find seating inside the house or on the back patio. I had the avocado toast ("Love Island" has me craving and eating this on the daily). You can add salmon or eggs atop your avo-toastie. They have signature latte flavors, which I opted for the "Sin Nombre" (it's a mix of their other signature flavors) with almond milk. The baked oatmeal, vanilla yogurt parfait, and french omelete (sans french bread), lunch soups, and lunch salads are the only GF food items, btw. No GF bread. We walked in, they took our order and got it to us pretty quickly. It can get a little crowded between the order and the pickup at this location as its in a hallway, but they get you in pretty quick. If you have something they have to craft, like a drink or a breakfast, you will get a placard and can wait indoors or outdoors while you wait. On a morning like today, it was nice to be able to sit and enjoy your coffee and have a chat about the show. The kids enjoyed their chocolate croissant and blueberry cream cheese pastry croissant. It was great - I would return there for a morning bite. The coffee was good, too. I enjoyed a nitro cold brew (no ice), and Liz enjoyed her 8-oz capuccino. We will come back. read more

We stopped by this coffee shop on our way to the Yanaguana garden which is a stones throw away. The coffee was pretty standard and satisfied my need for caffeine on a long touristy visit to the city. There was plenty of seating available inside and outside.
