Avocado Toast with egg added
Jasmine G.

The interior was very cozy but small so we sat outside. The employee was nice but she was swatting flies in the pastry display which made me not want to order the bakery items. For two iced lattes, a kid's French toast with berries and an avocado toast with an egg we paid $40. The avocado toast was nothing to rave about. It lacked flavor.. The coffee was good but not the best I've had in San Antonio. The French toast was the best thing we had during the visit. The location itself is what brought us to this location as we wanted to have a morning coffee and allow our little one to have fun at the park next to the business. You do have to park in the garage as it is almost impossible to find street parking. But that's common in this area. They also will not validate your parking so be prepared to pay for your expected time here.

The latte was amazing (i.e. super smooth and flavorful), one of the best I've had. And the bacon, egg, and cheese croissant was so good. Perfectly flaky, warm, and packed with flavor from the bacon. Highly recommend trying both if you go!

Close to convention center - great place for coffee and a pastry or a more substantial breakfast (omelette, crepes, etc). Indoor and outdoor seating. Friendly staff!

Sucks about parking here, no free or validated parking but I guess that's downtown. Cheapest I found was the conference garage at 10 dollars full day but it is a bit of a walk 10 ish minutes. Service was great! They were out of ALL pastries by 1 pm. This was so sad but also weird because as I was walking up I saw a tray in the window but they took it away as soon as I ordered and put them away (but still in view, other customers pointed this out but they insisted they were out for the day) . I tried the matcha and the lemonade. Matcha was okay very average and same with the lemonade. I was surprised at the limited outlets but overall not a bad place to get some work done.

Brunch with my friends was amazing, we came on a sunny Sunday afternoon, the line wasn't too bad and the staff are very nice and will offer suggestions if you are indecisive because everything on the menu looks so good! Also, the coffee and matcha is amazing, I got an iced latte with oat milk and their honey Lavender syrup! my friends got matcha lattes, they loved them. The food is very fresh and high quality, it's safe to say anything you order is going to be bomb! I will be back.

First time here, I had no idea this cute little cafe was here. It's kind of hidden and tucked under a lot of trees, nestled in between the big parking structure and Bombay restaurant (at hemisfair park). It's very casual and although there's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, there are no servers. You order at the counter, receive a number, seat yourself, and they bring you your food. They have lunch and breakfast served all day. It's very light options. I ordered a dill chicken salad croissant sandwich and sadly I didn't taste any hint of dill. The croissant was too flaky for me and not moist or soft like a sandwich. The kettle chips were delicious though. I also ordered the tomato basil soup, it was ok. Service was wonderful and prompt. Overall good experience. I enjoyed my matcha with honey as well and the casual ambiance was the cherry on top!

Commonwealth Coffeehouse has been my go-to coffeeshop for years! My favorite location is their original one in the Alamo Heights area across from UIW, but their Hemisfair location has a much different charm than the other one does. This beautiful coffee house was built inside a historic building within the Hemisfair and everything from their indoor to their outdoor seating area is absolutely beautiful. They have the same food menu as their other locations, however I think the consistency in their food at this location is not the best (but I still love them). This location can get pretty busy during the early hours on the weekend, so keep that in mind. But if you are looking for a place to work or have a meeting during the week, I think they are the perfect spot. I highly recommend all their pastries, especially their chocolate croissants. The only tricky thing about coming here is the parking situation since you do need to pay for extra parking to come here, but that is obviously outside of their control.

Strawberry Nutella pastry

CommonWealth is a darling little coffee house offering up baked goods and specialty coffee drinks in a historic and cozy space. We stopped by for a cup of coffee and some breakfast bites and were so pleased with the experience. I ordered one of their specialty lattes, which was wonderfully made with smooth strong espresso and almond milk. For my breakfast, I got their avocado toast with scrambled egg whites added. It was served on an ample piece of bread with plenty of avocado, egg whites, seasoning, and micro greens. My husband ordered their strawberry nutella pastry. I had a bite and it was a delightful blend of fresh and flavorful strawberries, flakey pastry, and a generous drizzle of nutella--amazing! The service was friendly and prompt. Really, nothing not to love here. Get to it!

Chicken salad! So good!
Grace C.

The ambiance and food is phenomenal! The staff is super kind and helpful. I would 100% recommend this spot! The location is also so convenient being right by the hemisfare park! It's even a good spot for studying or just chatting with the gals over lunch!

Beautiful location. Pastries are freshly made. Dill Chicken salad is amazing! Potato leek soup is wonderful. Fresh brewed tea and delicious coffee. They offer a beautiful outdoor patio area that is very kid friendly as well as a great place to do some Work or read a book. Very private and calming. Employees were professional and nice. Highly recommend for breakfast or lunch

Turkey avocado sandwich with caprese salad
Mitzi M.

I went here for an event, but I was early, so I ordered lunch. Great decision! The turkey avocado sandwich was delicious, and the caprese side dish was so much better than chips or fries. Tip: they will serve you lunch even if it's not yet 11:00. The staff is very helpful and friendly. I got my food very quickly. I enjoyed my time here.

French omelet with chorizo and spinach and potatoes and toast on the side
Chaquille H.

I had heard good things about Commonwealth and they were all true! I had an early breakfast on this beautiful morning and it was delicious. The French omelet gives you options for your filings and I chose chorizo and spinach. My plate also came with breakfast potatoes that were super crispy and tasty toast. I had a chai latte to drink that was also delicious. Overall the service was great and sitting on the back deck was nice with the exception of the large number of birds. I will definitely be going back to Commonwealth and you should too!

Tasteful coffees and delicious croissant and ham and cheese crepe. It's a really cute restaurant with outside seating as well.

Ask the Community - CommonWealth Coffeehouse & Bakery

Is this place quiet enough to study at?

It certainly was when I went - on a Tuesday morning.

Is there a wait on Saturday's? Is there room for a group of six to sit together?

Hi, our home is a first cone first serve so there is space and wait is really dependent on the time. I would recommend 9 am. Warm regards

Do they validate parking for the parking garage?

I wish, but sadly they don't. A garage is adjacent to this location, but only first thirty minutes are free. There are a handful of "street" parking spots, but are labeled for other purposes.

However, when it was finally served, it appeared completely clear, which left me a bit confused about the preparation process. I originally stopped in for the prerolls, but due to a recent ban or restriction, they were unavailable. Unfortunately, the cashier didn't seem very interested in suggesting alternative products or helping me find a comparable option. Overall, the experience didn't leave much of an impression. Between the average drinks, limited product availability, and lack of engagement from the staff, I don't see myself returning.

I placed an order and walked to the coffee shop, only to be informed that they were bought out and didn't even have my order or the right ingredients to make it. Instead of a refund, they offered to make me a regular coffee which I declined. I took a long walk just to go there to pay $12 for coffee that didn't exist and a coffee shop that doesn't exist as of 2 weeks ago! They need to take their ordering down and website if they won't fulfill your order. It's absolutely stealing my money!!!!! We ordered a dozen plus 4 regular -- and first off, our dozen box looked like it had been thrown together from across the room. The box was just throw together rather than lined up gently (and without any parchment between the heavy, icing-covered donuts!) so by the time we got where we were going they were all stuck together and sharing icing flavors. Every haphazard donut stuck to the next. Unappetizing, I assure you. Secondly, after all that, they didn't even give us our four extra even though we paid for them.
