Such amazing food! The ordering process was simple- walk in and up to the counter, place your food order, have a seat and let it be delivered! The restaurant was very clean and all of the staff involved were courteous and super pleasant. The gave us advice on their favorites and what the most popular items are. The beer was fresh and delicious, which is always a plus! I had the Shrimp PoBoy and some of my son's étouffée, we all shared on some gator bites and beignet too. The beignet was covered in such a thick amount of powdered sugar, it made every bite a little piece of heaven! The dudes had a fried shrimp plate and some catfish too. I didn't love the breading on the catfish, but the flavor was all the best. There's also a Louisiana hot sauce on the table as well as a shaker of "Slap Yo Mama" seasoning which was AMAZING to add the spice I was craving to my shrimp poboy. During lunch hours, you order at the counter, and you're given a number to put on the table of your choosing. Drinks and food are brought to you by wait staff. Menu seems limited to mostly fried foods and items that can be prepared in large batches (gumbo, jambalaya, etc..). The only fish option is fried catfish. I was unsure of what to order given my restrictive diet. I was offered a sampling of the etouffee, which I loved, so that's what I ordered. They also offered to grill the shrimp for my half po boy. The etouffee I received must have come from a different batch because it was ok.... but not as amazing as the sample. The shrimp po boy was good, and the shrimp tasted fresh. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. Definitely will come again. Heard a lot about this restaurant from family that lives close by. They recommended the Shrimp PO Boy sandwich which is fried shrimp on a hefty French bread. And the remoulade sauce that comes with the sandwich is no joke, smother that sandwich with as much tangy sauce as you can. If you're craving Cajun food, this is a must get. Was craving seafood gumbo so my friend and I drove from Nashville to give it a try based on the reviews. The seafood gumbo was cool. I wish they were gulf shrimp and I do prefer a little kick to my gumbo. My friend ordered the étouffée and said it was decent. The staff was friendly and attentive even though it was a fast casual type of environment. You order at the register and then get a number to take to your table. We tried Voodoo Gumbo for the first time tonight. we were seated promptly and well taken care of by the servers. The interior had a nicer feel than I thought it would, with fun twinkly lights and pretty New Orleans pics on the walls. They had a nice little draft beer selection with many local choices. Mine was perfectly cold in an actual Pilsner glass. We ordered, and while we waited the owner or manager came by to thank us for coming in. We told him it was our first visit so he offered us complementary beignets after our meals. Hubs had the shrimp po'boy and I had a fried shrimp platter. The shrimp were unbelievably tender and perfectly cooked. We tried both the cocktail sauce and the remoulade and both were great. He had regular fries and I tried hot fries, both were fantastic. We also received a complimentary order of beignets since it was our first time! I have come to really enjoy the catfish atchafalya here, listed under the specialties on the menu. It's a hearty dish with fried catfish served over a bed of fluffy rice and topped with étouffée plus your choice of a side. Perfectly comforting! On other occasions I've tried gumbo, jambalaya, red bean and rice, the alligator appetizer and the amaretto bread pudding- all tasty in their own right! More recently we came on a Thursday night and arrived a little before close (they close at 830 most days) and without realizing so which we felt terrible about. Due to the timing we found that they were out of a few things on the menu. The chef and staff were super accommodating and really tried to make everyone happy, which we all appreciated. Decent New Orleans fare, fast-food style. The jambalaya is a little short on meat and the gumbos are soupier than I like them. Very nice po boys, though. The bread on its own tends toward dry. Beignets are the best in Nashville, actually quite superior to the tourist fare one gets these days at Cafe Du Monde. Not on par with really good Big Easy restaurants by any stretch of the imagination, but for a Creole feel outside of that city, this is better than any other similar restaurant in Nashville. read more

If you picked it up and moved it to a strip mall anywhere in Louisiana, you'd walk in and feel that it had always been there. We discovered this place served Beignets so we went to some trouble to locate it beginning with calling to verify their hours and were they indeed serving Beignets? We received excellent directions and information re: hours etc. Interestingly enough the restaurant is located in a strip mall, but don't let that put you off. We were seated immediately and our server MaCayla announced that first time visitors receive...are you ready...a free order of Beignets....Yes!!! So happy, we felt loved, and MaCayla was an amazing, and beautiful soul who catered to our every need. She was Southern hospitality to the Nth degree and made us feel so welcome. We ordered an appetizer of alligator bites which honestly, tastes a lot like chicken. Very nice breading and not greasy. Entrees were an unpronounceable catfish (see online menu) and étouffée with rice which we split, remember we have Beignets coming. The fish tasted a bit like it was farmed but the étouffée was quite nice, and the shell fish were small but plentiful. My husband ordered red beans and rice which he said were very flavorful. We heard a story about a man from CA who drove there Just for the bread pudding, alas they were out when he arrives. So of course we had to try it. We all fought over bites, and agreed it was the best we ever had, anywhere. Now onto New Orleans to compare Beignets, not sure we will find the same measure of hospitality as we did from all the staff at Voodoo Gumbo! Yum. Delicious and authentic, this place takes you to NOLA! I've been once on my own as I live close, but I ordered takeout from them earlier this week for a meeting at work and it could not have been a better experience. Everything was hot, fresh and ready for pickup at the exact time I needed, which was great as it was for a meeting and clearly I was on a timeline for pickup and getting back to work. I cannot stress enough how many RAVE REVIEWS I received from my coworkers. They loved it! Highlights: shrimp poboy (whatever sauce is used is dynamite), chicken and sausage gumbo has great spice and the perfect amount of heat, seafood gumbo is light but filling, flavorful but not too spicy. Now I can say I have gator before. It was an experience. . Drink . - got me a cold refreshing michelob beer on draft with some lemon wedges to wash everything down. Well I am stumped here. Portions large- seafood lots but I think the salt machine is broken- everything was way to salty. It was good but the salt got to me. All night drinking water. Took me forever to come and finally tried the catfish and the seafood gumbo and the etouffe and fries. Very good except for the salt. Service was wonderful cheery and safety was first.
