Great spot with a solid selection of oysters. Lived in NOLA for years and this place scratches the itch for creole and Cajun food.

Unfortunately, this was one of the worst seafood meals I've had in a long time. We started with the spinach dip, which was actually very good, and my husband really enjoyed his oysters on the half shell. I wish the rest of the meal had been on that same level. I ordered the peel and eat shrimp boil and specifically asked for the Cajun butter on the side. Everything in the boil seemed extremely overcooked. The eggs had the green ring around the yolks that you get when they've been boiled far too long, the corn was so tough and overcooked that it was nearly impossible to eat, and the sausage tasted very cheap and also overcooked. The shrimp were the biggest disappointment. Several had a green goo inside that was incredibly unappetizing, and after seeing that, I could barely continue eating the meal. Even the Cajun butter was disappointing. It tasted like butter mixed with the seasoning packet from instant ramen rather than a flavorful Cajun butter. I really wanted to like this place, especially since the appetizer and oysters were good, but my entrée was honestly awful. For a restaurant specializing in Cajun seafood, I expected much better quality and preparation. I left having barely eaten my dinner and feeling like the entire boil was a waste. read more

I got the seafood trinity, it was about $50 at the time I bought it. The crawfish were super flavorful, and had a nice spice which I enjoyed. I wish there was some extra seasoning that the food was in besides butter to add some more flavor as the shrimp didn't have much seasoning. The crab itself also didn't have much seasoning and I will say compared to other places I had a harder time getting the shells off with both the crawfish and crab than what I'm used to. Louisiana themed bar with Cajun style food. First off, wait staff was excellent. Great service, friendly, and very helpful. I got the Voodoo Chicken. It was good with added Louisiana hot sauce. There was drizzled balsamic (maybe a reduction) on top and I feel they could have done without it to maintain the flavor profile of the dish. It was served over a white steamed rice. Cajun Steamer sounds simple, but they have a large menu of Cajun food and steamed options. Being a bar, they have a lot of drink options too. The restaurant is decorated to fit the Cajun theme. There is a sports feel with TVs mounted everywhere. The day we visited they switched from music to sound from a football game. They are located in a shopping center. Parking was plentiful and close. The service here was some of the best we've had in the area. Our server was friendly and on top of anticipating anything we'd need. Our food came out quickly. Our server kept up with service even as the restaurant filled up. The name of the restaurant made me think it was a seafood boil spot, but they have a large menu of Cajun items. They have a nice mix of fried and steamed or grilled options. One can splurge or eat sensibly here. We started with Boudin Balls which were delicious and a little spicy. My House Salad had fresh veggies. My husband had a Cajun dish that he enjoyed. I was excited to see half orders of some dishes available and went with a half order of Melvin's Blackened Chicken. This was a nice combination of caramelized onions and balsamic vinegar. The mashed potatoes were delicious. The half portion was plenty of food for me. My little one wasn't going to be able to hang in long enough for beignets, but I'm trying them next time! We left excited about this spot. Sometimes I forget about this place because it's in the middle of a strip mall but if you're local and need a shrimp boil or some Cajun food, it's a good place to stop in on! We ordered the Blue Crab Claws and for some reason we pictured them differently. They were much smaller but pack a lot of flavor. It was a little more fishery than I like but it was good. Our kiddo loved the grilled cheese and fries. Really good fries! We had their shrimp basket and why we ordered half...I don't know why. We should have done the whole order. Shrimp was great and had a good breaded coating on it! Fries were delicious. Husb puppies and slaw was okay. Hurricane drink was good. Stopped in for dinner while on a business trip in Franklin. My colleague found it and it sounded fun! We ordered the alligator bites app which I forgot to get a photo of. I'd never had alligator and wasn't sure what to expect. Deep fried - No specific flavor but very chewy incase you're wondering! It was Margarita Monday so we got margaritas. mine (on the rocks) was mostly mixer but for $5 I hadn't expected different. My colleagues frozen one he said was strong. I got salmon which was well cooked and tasty. Rice was pretty standard and broccoli was crispy not overcooked! He got the fish with seafood stuffing and said it was really good. Looking for a lunch spot . We love Cajun and food googled it & found Cajun Steamer, said let's go. We sat ourselves and the server Porche , who was great , explained some of the meals. We started with gator bites and they were fried but good. My main meal was Catfish Pontchartrain ,a fish dish with a crab topping on it. Think it was in the Cajun specialties menu .But it was fabulous!! Definitely having it again when we go back. The wife had grouper tacos which she enjoyed and was a good portion of 3 big tacos. As someone from Southeast Louisiana, we were excited that there was a Cajun restaurant in Murfreesboro. First of all people should know that Cajun food is not all spicy and hot. That would be Creole food. Cajun food is seasoned. The portions are not very big if you want a bowl of gumbo or red beans and rice. We ordered the gumbo and asked the waitress for file' and she had no idea what we were asking for. My daughter ordered the boil crawfish. It was so over boiled and small that I was difficult to peel them. Once they were peeled, they were so spicy that they were unable. For the prices they charge, they need to do better. read more

Cajun food is not a predominant food in the Nashville Metro Area, but there are a few choices. The absence of Yat's leads one to Voodoo Gumbo. When you live south of Nashville, you have to take your Cajun where it comes. That leads you to Cajun Steamer Bar and Grill. Let me say this, there's an emphasis on Bar. The Grill...meh. The selection of CSBG's menu is pretty nice. It's not just a gumbo and Po' Boy menu. There's plenty of things to choose from on the menu. So, long time looker, first time orderer...and last time orderer. First, let's start with the real world. Mistakes happen. You know it and so do I. Even Leo Getz in Lethal Weapon 2 knew it, when he said "The [screw] you in the drive-thru." Post COVID that's raised to take-out, too. I'd like to give props to the manager, Garrett. Garrett agreed to remake part of the order and to get the items left out. I'll take some of those props back because, after driving back to pick up the "fix," I was surprised to find that the order was still wrong when I got back home. I should have known that something was still gonna be wrong when the host came up for the redo and informed me I was wrong in expecting a side of fries with a po' boy. When I pulled up the menu online and showed him it did come with a side of fries, he admitted they maybe he was wrong and didn't know. Leo Getz would agree with me. Nonetheless, we move on to the food. CSBG doesn't hold a candle to Voodoo Gumbo. It is the equivalent of what McDonald's is to Ground or 5 Guys. The étouffée is a 4 out of 10. The po' boy is along the same rank. i could clearly see there were shrimp on the po' boy. As for tasting shrimp, nah. The shrimp and Grouper tacos need some guidance from Chile Burrito for flavor. I do give a solid 6 to the beignets. They could use more powdered sugar, but the caramel sauce lifted them a point. In the end, CSBG is for those who have never eaten at Voodoo Gumbo and just don't want to drive for good Cajun. read more

I've eaten at the Cajun Steamer on several occasions, but on the last two visits, we have been very disappointed. It seems as though the quality of the food has dropped significantly, and the service could be somewhat better. The last time we were there, we ordered their crab legs and let me say that I would never recommend those to anyone. They were mushy inside as though they had been cooked too long and where they hook to the knuckle itself, the meat was dark, almost black on the ends. So I would not recommend going there and ordering the crab legs. One last point, the crab legs were small and the meat portions even where it should've been was very skimpy. read more

Food is good. We go here when we're craving some Cajun food. For starters the seafood dip and mushrooms are a must. Both are delicious! Oysters are also yummy if that's your thing. For entrees we got shrimp and grits, mussels and sausage in white wine and Cajun sauce with a side of red beans and rice and corn and potatoes, the Trinity, and fried crawfish with a cup of ettoufet. This place has excellent beignets and that's pretty much it. It hurts me to give this place the review that I am, but it's honest. The jambalaya lacks flavor, the fried catfish tastes murky and dirty still, the fries are okay, and the rice was dry. This place definitely isn't the "Cajun" you'd want to pay for. It was mediocre. We came on a relatively quiet day and the service took forever, just to order drinks! The bar area is so loud with regulars that it's hard to hear. The place seemed clean, no issues there. But I wouldn't be coming back. The price for the quality is not right and if I wanted bad seafood, I would be returning. The beignets are excellent and I can say that they are tasty! So I have been going there throughout the years for what was a fairly good bowl of gumbo. They have changed owners and now you no longer get a dark roux for gumbo. This place was always way better than the Murfreesboro store. The gumbo, It's a thick base soup used like in an étouffée. Then they fill a bowl with mostly rice and little soup material. The spice is also gone. The place still has a great vibe which is good but me being raised in N.O. I am disappointed in the changes to the food now. Not bad but not New Orleans true flavors. Our waiter, I think his name was Juan (short male with a hat) and the blonde manager were amazing. Both were super professional and they stayed late for us to finish our food. I cant remember their names but they were great. The food was really flavorful and filling! The music provided people a variety of genres. The only downside was some of the younger bar staff members (2 of them) and their choice of clothing. When I first walked in, I thought I was walking into a hooters based on their shirts that showed their belly and really short shorts. Everything else was 5 Stars but that. This place has potential. We stopped in here and they have a fairly versatile menu. Our server recommended the peel and eat shrimp in "spicy water" so we went with that. It came with spicy corn and some potatoes. We also tried the fried pickles and the crawfish queso. The shrimp was quite bland. I asked for cocktail sauce and was disappointed to see (and taste) that it was a generic cocktail sauce that tasted much more of ketchup than anything else. The pickles were ok but came heavily battered and came with a side of spicy ranch (which was not) and regular ranch. The biggest disappointment was the crawfish queso. Boiling hot but so bland. I could tell there was a creamy sauce on my chip but not really what it tasted like. My husband enjoyed it, however. So maybe it was my own taste. The service was quick and SO friendly. However, the food we tried was just okay. I understand they serve a large local population and have quite a few bar regulars. I can see how they would meet this need quite well. My suggestion is if you're looking for a nice place to hang out with friends and have drinks with some food, this is your place! Flavor Explosion! Everything's was delicious. A quick takeout decision was like a quick trip to Louisiana. The tuna was phenomenal the sauces were incredible. The hush puppies were good and the dipping dive sure fresh. The chicken sandwich was crispy and flavorful. The gumbo and étouffée were in very small containers and were a bit on the greasy side. To be fair had I done this review in say 2013-2015 it would have been 5 stars - we loved this place Loved the Cajun food and the seafood and felt it was a good value for he quality and portion size. The fresh fish "catch of the day" was was a big hit as was the gulf shrimp , crawfish boil and the oysters But now in 2024 even with food prices increasing drastically it's hard to justify a "QUARTER of a PO'boy and cup of gumbo for $ 13.00 without tax or tip. Unfortunately this is no longer our go to place and until the seafood market or something changes, we will be preparing more Cajun dishes at home. read more
