Voodoo Queen Daiquiri Drive is your quintessential neighborhood dive bar and I am here for it. My friends recently put me on this spot and I am ever so grateful they did. I guess you can classify the area as EaDo. I don't remember a dedicated parking lot, but there is alot of street parking in the area. Looks can be deceiving. It has a divey look on the outside, with a little patio and picnic tables. Walking in, it was the complete opposite. I'm not saying it's upscale inside, but it's clean, has dim lighting with string lights, quirky decorations, random seating throughout, a couple of pool tables, a jukebox, etc. The NOLA vibes were there with all the frozen drink machines lined up behind the bar. We came pretty early in the night and the place was busy. We got lucky and was able to take up some space at the bar. Customer service was great. I knew coming in I was going to go for a frozen drink of some sort, but they got it all. It's almost like they had an identity crisis and just decided to put all the drink varieties on the menu. They have tiki bar type drinks that are rum forward. They have the tequila category with margaritas, palomas, etc. They have all kinds of draft and bottled beer. Then of course all the frozen concoctions. You can get them as is with one flavor, or get one of their mixes with extra shots of flavored liquor or tooters as they like to call it. I tried the Sexxx Waxxx. The name alone seemed intriguing. It was a mix of one of their mango drinks along with strawberry mixes. Delicious and it packed a punch as well. I took it easy and stopped after one. They also have food on deck. They got Po'Boys, chicken strips and other bar foods. My friends swore by the tator tots. I got a large order to share and even though they looked like regular tots, they seasoned and cooked them to perfection and they were addicting. I need to come back and try their other stuff as well. Food was great but what they don't tell you they put a $50 hold and you don't get it back for a week. $20 okay maybe but $50 is crazy considering my tab was $25 and I got charged for both. They say there's a sign but I couldn't even see it when they pointed out to me . Our whole giant group was mainly from out of town and they knew this so to not let ppl know is crazy. I can't believe it has taken me this long to finally try this spot. I am a sucker for frozen drinks, so I have certainly been sleeping on this place. A few things I would like to point out before you come here: The quality of service has declined dramatically. Be prepared for the staff to hog the pool tables. Fellas, if the boys invite you to this place after a long day of work and you look "too tired," you may be asked to leave. And for my ladies, if you take longer than three minutes in the restroom, no matter what the situation may be, you could be accused of doing drugs in front of everyone and be kicked out. Cool little daiquiri spot with a fun dive bar feel. They have a small parking lot next door and I managed to get a spot in there no issues. They have food and I tried the boudin balls which were delicious! It was quite busy in there and they only had 2 bartenders so service can take a while. Nut allergy warning: be careful of almond liqueurs. I kept to beer to be cautious. Indoor is large and outdoor has a few tables. Parking is street or a small lot with about 20 spots. Fun little dive bar. Two pool tables, air hockey, a photo booth, and some different seating. Large tater tots took about 20 minutes to come out, so food will be a little while if you order any. The tots were decently crispy and definitely sharable. Shrimp was OK. Drinks are fast if there's no line. Very reasonable drink prices ($6-9 for a 20oz goblet, $12-15 for frozens), and eight frozen cocktail options are great. The rotating IPA was the Brash Cali Green while I was there. After tax and tip I paid about $40 for three goblets and large tots. I would recommend they make bathrooms gender neutral or make it clearer if they are... I am extremely disappointed with my visit to this bar and I will NEVER return. Came here based on a recommendation with a group of friends and immediately felt unwelcome. The manager or owner, whatever she wants to call herself, already gave us side looks at the bar. Not sure if it was based on race or sexual orientation which would be crazy since she looked like she might possibly be lgbtq and a minority. One friend forgot their ID so they left to get it and upon arrival was turned away due to the top black barcode being taped together. The birthday was still visible and valid but they were still told to leave. They wouldn't even let them stay while we finished a round of pool. I called the "manager" racist and IMMEDIATELY they got upset and was in my face and was very aggressive. Thankfully the Mill was next door and the vibes were soooooo welcoming! We had a great time speaking with the bartender, playing pool, and even did karaoke. The unprofessionalism from this establishment is comedic, even in their responses to our reviews. Went to Voodoo Daiquiri Queen yesterday with my friend and had a really disappointing experience. There were people openly smoking pot outside, which clearly wasn't being enforced, but somehow my friend couldn't get in because her ID was expired by only a month. That alone would've been fine if it was handled respectfully, but the guy at the door was rude and had an ugly attitude about it for no reason. 1-Star Review I had an extremely disappointing experience. I ordered a drink based on the menu description, but it didn't match at all. I didn't drink it and politely asked for a substitute. Instead of helping, the woman behind the counter told me "no" because she "can't resell it," then took the drink and threw it away. I was still charged $35 for a drink I didn't consume, and when I asked about it, I was told I'd have to pay again for a different one. The staff was rude and unprofessional. We stopped by last Friday since the Cidercade had a line that was not even worth waiting on. We rolled in around 9:30 and it was decently crowded, but not too bad. The wait on drinks however was unacceptable. So slow. When I tried to get the larger size for the daiquiri they told me they only do one size (the small one). I asked about the bigger cup next to the one he had grabbed. He informed me that it was only for mixed drinks. Seems like a lost revenue opportunity and also a way to keep their line shorter. The daiquiri itself was pretty tasty, but I'm pretty sure it was a lack of alcohol and a good amount of sugar based drink. Will I be back? Plus it comes with a cool souvenir cup. I tried my friends "fresh juice" that was like $13, but I hated it. The chicken basket was amazing! great portions of everything. Went for a drink with a friend on a Thursday, they had just opened but there was a couple groups already there. They do have a lot of drinks, they were good but they are too sugary for me so I got a couple beers instead. The food was great. We got a chicken sandwich that could rival any chicken place! It was a huge sandwich in artisan bread, perfectly crispy with golden brown crinkle cut fries. We also got the loaded tots to share and we didn't finish half of those. A dive bar true to its name. The bartenders were friendly and helpful with suggesting drinks because their menu is pretty big. They have some really fun funky drinks. The 2 stars is because the employee outside (I guess the bouncer?) was really unfriendly and kind of spoiled our time. We had just come from celebrating our friend's bday so she had a few gifts. He refused to let her in with the gifts (2 were wine bags). Of course we could never open a bottle at their establishment so we offered to place it on another table or even on the ledge around the perimeter of the bar so it was out of reach and he could see it. He still refused, with no apology or sense of understanding. Even if he had simply said "I'm sorry, I know it complicates what to do with your gifts, but it's our policy", I don't think we would have had an issue or negative impression of him. We have been long-time fans of voodoo - from before the fire/remodel and even now during social-distancing safety measures. First, their frozen drinks are fantastic - my favorite is the Suntan Lotion. I am also obsessed with their BLT Po Boy and tater tots, although I've never had a bad food item.
