My friend Patti O. told me to try this place. Actually I'm getting confused, it was Barbi B, but they have a Patti O, hence the name. The food is good, hearty, tasty, "Montrose Mexican" rather than Mexican, so I suppose Tex Mex, but a little less generic and made with love. The 5 star rating comes from me being supportive, because time and again, I've witnessed the neighbours to the East (the shopping plaza) being extremely un-neighbourly and un-Houstonian, if you will. And in a couple of cases, downright racist. That has no place in our world, in our city, and especially in Rainbowville Montrose, and those people who don't like sharing the urban space we are crammed into, and who don't like those who were born outside the USA and speak Spanish, should go and find a nation to live in that is more in keeping with their views, such as 1930s Germany as an example. read more

OH-EM-GEE!! I'm shocked at how low the reviews are for this place ! I stopped by here right between lunch and dinner time, so the place was pretty quiet at the time. This place is Houston's Hidden Gem! Everything is freshly made from tortillas, Birria meats, agua frescas, etc. I ordered everything I could from Guacamole, ceviche, Lamb and goat Birria tacos, agua frescas etc. Hands down best Birria tacos I've had. I don't eat beef and I love how inclusive they are to include other meat types asides from beef for the Birria tacos. Tacos were flavorful, esp eaten with their homemade spicy salsa and guac and consome. Let me tell you they DID NOT SKIMP ON THE MEAT OR PORTIONS!!! Next time I come here I definitely want to try the alcoholic drinks/beers that are served with the seafood and shrimp. Service was okay at the time just bc i went during a slow time. They gave great recs off the menu. If I have one advice to give the restaurant is to improve their menu quality/make it more organized. They have a lot of things that they offer that are not on the menu, adding that would be extremely helpful. My family is vegetarian and we had some AMAZING vegetarian dishes. We tried the chilaquiles torta, veggie burrito, huitlacoche enchiladas and the flor de calabaza quesadilla. Every plate was super flavorful, well seasoned and unique sometimes vegetarian Mexican food can be underwhelming or lack flavor, not here! This is the best vegetarian Mexican food in Houston! 10/10 recommend to any vegetarians, you won't be be disappointed. Howdy! Time for another exciting review from the land of Lorena! My girlfriend sent me a FB reel of this place, and she wanted to check it out, say less! We planned a girls brunch! Parking: We arrived, and were told parking was $5 for valet, or you can park in the adjacent lot for $5 as well. Parking on the street is also an option, so happy hunting for parking spot! Ambiance: At first glance the place was cute, but as we started to look around and truly soak it in, we noticed the decor really needed to be "vamped up ". For example, the gazebos sit up higher, and have severely rotting wood around the bottom of them as well as ripped cushions for seating. A lot of the hanging flowers and decor look sunburned, and old, etc... I'm sure it looked amazing when it all went up, but now it needs a "refresh". There was a mariachi band in the patio, and they were walking around and taking song request, we did not request a song, so I do not know if there is a fee request. The food : There are a variety of items on the menu, ranging from traditional Birria to tacos, tortas, mole etc. They also do have a large array of alcoholic beverages. We ordered a couple of Micheladas, Which were very good! I had the shrimp tacos. My girlfriend had the green Gorditas. Portion sizes on each dish we're good. However, the food was not very hot, it was warm to room temperature. I'm one of those weirdos so like my food scorching hot. Not a dealbreaker, though, as the food was still good and you could tell it was pretty fresh made. The complimentary chips and salsa were also very good. They come with a genuine mexican salsa. Came here for a birthday dinner and had a great time! The staff was super friendly, they speak both English and Spanish and provided great recommendations. The tortillas are freshly made out on the patio and the patio has fun photo op walls and little flower decorated gazebos. All very cute and lots of fun. The food was just as good as the ambiance! I tried the quesadillas flor de calabaza. Their green masa has a great flavor and adds more savory flavor to their dishes. I also really enjoyed that you get a giant mug when you order their agua frescas. I had the lemon con pepino and you could tell it was freshly made with little pieces of cucumber. So this is the famous spot that kept popping up on my TikTok feed. I'd been hesitant to visit since many TikTok-viral places end up being a bit overrated. I arrived around 9:45 a.m. for breakfast, only to find that breakfast items weren't on the main menu--which almost made me leave. Luckily, I asked, and they did bring out a breakfast menu. I ordered the Friday Plate while my guest went with the chilaquiles, and I added an atole de horchata to drink. While waiting, I tried the elote queso flameado, which was really good--the corn flavor stood out and made it worth it. When our main plates came, we had ordered our eggs sunny-side mid-temp, but unfortunately, they didn't get them right. It was disappointing since eggs should be one of the easiest things to nail. The meat was also quite chewy and hard to bite, which wasn't what I expected. On the positive side, the green salsa on the chilaquiles was excellent, and the plátano duro was full of flavor. The green tortillas were also a nice touch--just be careful, they break easily. Customer service was okay--nothing bad, but nothing that stood out either. Overall, it feels like the restaurant has the popularity and hype, but the food needs to catch up to the reputation that TikTok built for it. The food was tasted and was presented like having tacos at the park on a hot summer day. We had the birria verdes and the birria ramen. The food was served poorly. Why is the birria ramen in a ramen bowl that I could buy in the store? Service was terrible as the place had zero air flow there. The kitchen is in right of where people are sitting and it was so hot. They had air conditioners that weren't turned on. People began to complain and we see the inside was 85 degrees. The ambiance of the place was like eating in a very local spot, run down. However the back was nice but still very hot. Presentation of the place was so different from the actual food. We talked to one of the employees who made us Paloma's but she didn't know exactly what she was making. What an adorable patio and wonderfully friendly staff! I saw a video about this place on Instagram and was excited to try it. My bf and I went on a Wednesday evening, around 7 and there weren't very many people there. We sat outside, in an elevated gazebo with sheer curtains, fairy lights, and a ceiling fan. It was very romantic and we felt very special. There was a woman making green tortillas outside on a gridle and we got to see them lower a HUGE pot full of birria into an underground fire pit to cook for 48-hours. It was really cool. The menu isn't huge but there are many options. They specialize in birria and make it with goat and lamb, as well as beef. I got the goat and it was meltingly soft and bursting with flavor. I got it on some chilaquiles in red sauce. They make their chilaquiles the way I love it - every chip soaked in sauce and a healthy amount of birria and crema on top. It was DELICIOUS. My bf got a jumbo quesadilla with the lamb birria. It was also super good. We had some of their fresh aguas. I had the lime and it was so refreshing and not too sweet. He got the horchata and really loved it. It had just the right amount of cinnamon and sugar. We didn't try any of the alcoholic drinks but they looked really good. I am going to make it a regular spot when I want some good Mexican food and definitely a first stop when friends visit Houston! read more

I really wanted to enjoy this restaurant, but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. We waited 50 minutes for our food, and it never arrived. We ended up just paying for the 2 sodas we had and left. The staff seemed quiet, tired, and very inexperienced. It felt like we had to drag words out of them just to get basic answers. We did speak to the manager, who offered to bring the food out eventually, but by that point we had lost interest in eating there. The restaurant itself looked a bit cluttered and could really benefit from better ventilation -- it felt stuffy inside. pretty good spot for happy hour! They have some of the cheapest margs in town if you can make it to their happy hour. Now, the actual quality of these margs is questionable. I always feel so sick after a round of their margs. The food is decent, I love their pineapple salsa and chips. They get points off for questionable cleanliness of this place. Last time I was here, they had no functioning bathrooms because the plumbing was exploding out of the toilet, and gross smelling liquids was all over the floor leaking out of the bathrooms into the main hallway. However, the outdoor cabanas with the lights are beautiful at night and is def a selling point! First things first, the parking here sucks. There's a strip parking lot but there's other businesses on the lot so you're out of luck if it's full, you have to find street parking. Secondly, for how mediocre the food is this place is super busy. There's no reservation, no waitlist, you just have to wait your turn outside. The inside of the restaurant itself is HOT and humid. It's basically like you're sitting outside. I came in on a date and by the end of it we were both practically dripping in sweat. All that being said, the worst part by far is the food. I've had birria from a bunch of different places; homemade, food stands, food trucks, sit down restaurants. Good birria is good birria regardless of whether you get a quesabirria, a birria gordita, taco, birria ramen, etc. We ordered birria ramen just to play it safe and because it sounded pretty good. It was $16.99 and we maybe got 4 pieces of birria each. The ramen was spicy because it was tapatío flavored but the birria had absolutely no flavor. It was chewy and unappetizing. We ended up taking more than half of it home just to not waste the food. For $16.99 just go buy the $2 ramen at the grocery store and make the birria yourself it's probably cheaper and would taste better. The star of our meal was the pineapple agua fresca. Would I, in good faith, recommend this place? Probably not. It wasn't even worth taking a cute picture. read more
