I visited MOCA for an event with my organization and had a really good time overall. The atmosphere was great, and one thing I especially appreciated was the music. It was good and kept the energy up, but it wasn't so loud that everyone had to yell just to have a conversation. That's a huge plus for me. The service was a little slow when it came to the food and drinks, but no for everyone so that was my individual experience. The people at my table ordered at the same time I did and had almost finished eating before my wings finally arrived and it was basically the same with the drink. Not a big deal, but was something to note. Thankfully, the food was worth the wait. I ordered hot lemon pepper wings, but I believe they gave me three lemon pepper and three hot wings. They also brought hot sauce on the side, so it all worked out. Fries were good too. The biggest surprise of the night was my drink. We were ordering from the specialty cocktail menu, and what I got was basically a green apple martini. It absolutely changed my life. It was my first time trying one, and it was so good that I'll probably be ordering it again whenever I see it on a menu. Another bonus was the free parking available at the nearby post office, which is a major perk for that area. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and would definitely visit again. read more

Today, Pretty Girls That Brunch visited Mocha HTX (formerly 4214 on Almeda) with a reservation for 22 ladies that was made weeks in advance. We were seated on time, but unfortunately the service quickly fell apart. There was initially only one server for our large party, and while the drinks kept coming, the food did not. Only about 9 of our 22 guests ever received their meals. The rest waited for hours before leaving without food. As the organizer, I stayed behind hoping things would improve. After more than three hours, I was finally served cold French toast and bland chicken wings. I believe in supporting Black-owned businesses and understand the challenges that come with opening and staffing a restaurant. However, if a party of our size couldn't be accommodated, we should have been told beforehand so we could have made other plans. I truly hope Mocha HTX works through these growing pains because the space has a lot of potential. Unfortunately, after today's experience, I won't be returning. This establishment really let me down. I've always enjoyed the atmosphere and had great experiences here in the past, but this visit was completely different. Out of all the guests in the restaurant, my party was singled out and asked to move because of a table time limit. I was baffled, embarrassed, and honestly disappointed by how the situation was handled. It was noticeable enough that the table next to us actually asked why we were leaving, especially since we were clearly enjoying ourselves and having a good time. I spent $56 and left feeling unwelcome. Customer service and consistency matter, and unfortunately this experience fell far below expectations. Had a wonderful experience. Went for the live music; however, it ended before we got there so if you want to go for live music on Fridays it's from 6pm - 9pm. The DJs were good they set the vibes. Came here to support Spud Howard, Houston local artist, and his event. Moca HTX has a cool atmosphere. The consideration for both lighting and decor includes modern and antique elements (think Black Hollywood meets Gatsby), perfect for unwinding with friends or a simple date night suggestion. I believe there is a dress code, which you could possibly find on their website. Great energy from the live band and DJ all night. My bartender was attentive and shared their Happy Hour selections. I ordered the wings and sides... Quality and flavor, 7/10. He curated some really good cocktails though. That Old Fashioned was *chef's kiss* STRONG but smooth at the same time, probably one of the best I've had here in Houston. Parking isn't an issue. I went to Mocha HTX for Sound Orientation, and it was such a vibe! The DJs were amazing, and I had a fantastic time vibing out to the music. Once a table cleared up, I got seated inside with my cousin. The bartender whipped up a delicious ginger beer-based mocktail for me, and I have to say, it was superb--so refreshing! I tried the Yakamein, and it was absolutely delicious; I cleared the plate! It reminded me of a Nigerian dish called pepper soup but with not much pepper-- very flavorful broth with a good spice kick. The service was pretty good too, considering it was a busy Friday night. This review is looong over due. I love this location. Friday night live music and HH is bomb. I wish I knew the name of the young lady that was on 5/22 because she was amazing! Most nights, the owner is visible. If he is there, he is very attentive to the customers. The staff are always polite; the food is great (shrimp & grits, fish, veggie flatbread); the bar tender earns all of his tips lol. Thursdays they have live music, and this night one of my performers was singing here- so DOUBLE stoked. There was a short wait, but with the live music it was an easy distraction. The hostesses were quite accommodating and our waitress as well. They made sure we were comfortable and had sufficient space. Honestly, once in the main room there's not a bad spot. As far as the food, I was a little bummed they were out of seafood but I also had a taste for wings, which they had - so not bad. We both ordered wings- Cajun and lemon pepper and the order comes with fries + drinks (strawberry lemon drop and red wine). Needless to say,eeeverything was sooo good! I got pretty full after the second wing and some fries, but I kept wanting to eat MORE. The drinks were refreshing and on point. It was date night for us and I wanted to hear some live music so we decided to go to Moca. When we first arrived we spent a good amount of time looking for parking because we assumed we couldnt park on almeda. So we walked in with a quick check by security. He mentioned we could park on almeda or at the post office so we moved the car. It wasn't crowded..it was the perfect amount of people actually. We were sat right away and water brought to us in second of seating. Then our waiter disappeared for 15 minutes. He came back just in time to get happy hour specials. We had wings, crawfish crawfish bread, and eggs with shrimp on them. The food was pretty good. The service mediocre. The side car wasn't really a side car even after being made twice. The live music was awesome. She could sang!!! So remember when I said security told us we could park in front? After a very enjoyable night, we went outside and our car was towed. This was my first time having brunch at Moca. I've only come once before and hung out with some friends on the patio on a Saturday night. This establishment isn't bad but has so much potential to be better. I'm only speaking on my brunch experience. We came around 2PM for a birthday party. We were a large group so I understand that it takes some time to tend to us. We needed more servers to help with our party because there was only one and he did the best that he could. He was very nice and patient but occasionally would mess up orders here and there. We were told halfway through our visit that they ran out of certain ingredients (such as shrimp) so some people couldn't get their deviled eggs or shrimp and grits. It's only unfortunate because it wasn't very busy and it seemed early in the day to run out of items. We did order some drinks and I really enjoyed those, I got the MOCA spin on a French 75. I also was able to taste the deviled eggs before they ran out and it was pretty good. I was a little disappointed in the presentation of some of the meals. For instance the French toast was very underwhelming and not sure if it was a mistake but a full entrée of French toast ( 4 slices) was about $18 for some people, but then others were able to get a "side" of French toast (3 slices) for $5. Again, I think this restaurant has so much potential but I would definitely work on the service, the presentation and ensure the pricing properly represents what we are ordering. I will say they appear to have a good happy hour so I may come back and try that out another day. read more

I visited Moca HTX for a girls night out with good drinks and food. However, I did not realize the food menu was limited. This makes sense as this business is considered a lounge. I was able to make reservations which is convenient. We were seated at a booth which was crowded and there was difficulty maneuvering through the building. One aspect of this restaurant that was really concerning was the extremely loud music. This is not the place to visit to catch up with friends due to the loud music. We literally had to scream to communicate with one another. We left before ordering food or drinks as this establishment wasn't as expected. I'm not sure if I'll be visiting again. read more

I booked a reservation here at Moca HTX for my birthday. Upon arrival on 9/6 I was told there were no tables available and there would be a 30-40 minute wait - which was unsettling considering that I made a reservation. I spoke to the Hostess about the reservation to which she replied and told me I had no choice but to wait. After waiting a table became available however the table was only for 4. My reservation was booked for 6 people. With an attitude the Hostess told me this was the only table she had available and that if I wanted it I could find some extra chairs from the bar to carry over to the table. After retrieving my own chairs due to the lack of Customer Service myself and my party sat at the table. After 25 minutes of waiting we had yet to be greeted. After about 10 additional minutes of waiting and no acknowledgment from any member of staff, no food, or drinks we decided to leave. In total that was 1 hour and 15 minutes of horrible customer service in spite of the fact I Bad a reservation that was made 2 weeks prior and was not a pleasant way to start my birthday. side note the music was extremely loud and ear piercing you could not even hear the people at your table. read more

SLOW SERVICE JUST TO RUSH YOU OUT!! I want to start off by saying this was my first time here and the main reason I came was to support the Houston singer that was performing. Was met with a mild greeting from the very beginning.Very cute and clean place on the inside but customer service is very mediocre!! . Our waitress was very sweet, but it took a while before we could start ordering and had to tell her everything because honestly we didn't know when she'll be back. We ordered food and drinks which were not bad at all. Live music was amazing and was the highlight. Soon as we got done eating we were told we had to move for reservations, when we had reservations as well and told we could sit anywhere coming in. The lady was getting very antsy with us and I haven't even finished my drink. She didn't suggest another place we could sit or anything. She just kept coming up to our table trying to remove my drink and almost taking my water off the table. That was the most I've seen someone at my table the entire evening.It went from us enjoying ourselves to us being rushed out. It was embarrassing, even the people next to us looked uncomfortable. So much potential but they need to do better. People spend their hard earn money to come out and support just to be treated like whatever.
