Called the day before to schedule a garbage disposal installation and was quoted $117/hour for labor + a charge of $25 for the first hour. The lady said that these jobs typically take an hour, so I quickly calculated that this should cost about $140 ($120 after the mailer coupon), sounds good! The plumber arrived the next day, did a pretty good job (although some time was wasted going back and forth several times trying to find the correct part size), but finished the job in 1 hour 7 min despite the back and forth. He was also very pleasant, which is the only reason I'm giving them 2 stars instead of 1. However, when he came back with a $200 bill 15 min later, I questioned where the discrepancy was. It turns out that they start the clock as soon as they arrive on your driveway, and the 15 minutes it takes to write up the bill is also charged at $117/hour. I called their office and expressed that I should only be billed for the time spent on the plumbing job, the driveway and admin/paperwork time should definitely not be on my dime, especially not at $117/hour. The moron over the phone had the audacity to say "Well maybe you he was at your door for 20 minutes waiting for you to open the door". No buddy, this wasn't the case and I have videos to prove that I answered the door in under 15 seconds. He then said "Bro, if you wanna be so cheap about it, go ahead it's fine." YOU'RE trying to charge your customers 40% more than the quoted price through shady business practices, yet I'M the cheap one? Riigggghhhht. Here's a free tip: why don't you be more transparent about pricing and stop trying to nickel and dime your customers, asshole! I was planning to hire them to replace my water heater because the plumber was very friendly, but after experiencing such unprofessional behavior from their management, I will never use this shady company again. Plumber was on time, while I rushed out at lunchtime to meet him. He spotted an extra issue of a leaking spigot, which I wasn't even thinking of. It was clear that he was on top of things, and not just padding his bill. He finished the job timely, and no problems with the job. I think the the charge was within reason, and around the initial hourly quote. Maybe slightly more, but I'm happy enough with the outcome, that I don't mind it. Full transparency, I had no intention on hiring Vortex because previously they basically ripped me off by taking over 6 hours to install a kitchen sink and 2 faucets (they charge over $100 per hour).... that was literally it, they didn't have to install a garbage disposal or anything else, AND on top of it the work turned out to be Mickey-Moused as one of the faucets is slightly crooked and the other started coming undone from the sealant 3 months later. Needless to say, it was a bad experience. HOWEVER, after dealing with being rescheduled (for not putting up notices) and then a cancellation on Vortex's part, I didn't want to encounter another possible reschedule due to not being able to line up the plumbing company I actually wanted with Vortex's arrival since Vortex has to come out anyway because they are the only ones who can shut off the water. So I decided to give them another shot and that's when we came across Paul.... and he was AWESOME!!! Super knowledgeable, experienced, and fast! The work was done in less than 2 hours. We had an emergency toilet back up situation on a Saturday night, it was a disaster and already had a plumber come out and say they weren't able to fix the problem and that we'd have to find somewhere else to stay. Luckily, Vortex Plumbing was able to send someone out, on a Saturday night, thank goodness! Their plumber, Eric, showed up and couldn't have been nicer and more helpful! He wore a mask the whole time, he was super knowledgeable, and very friendly. He took a look around the property and got right to work on the pesky toilet. I called Vortex Plumbing as my usual plumbing company was unable to come clear a clog for a couple of days and recommended I try Vortex Plumbing. They were able to come out the same day. I received a courtesy call from them informing me the plumber was running behind and wanted to make sure I was ok waiting a little longer. The plumber arrived and quickly got to work clearing the clogged drain. He ran a long snake down the drain three times to make sure he got all the crud out of the pipe. Once he was satisfied that the drain was clear, he cleaned up the tub and suggested trying a drain hair catcher to prevent the problem from happening again. He was very polite and courteous throughout his time in my home. Vortex Plumbing has a new satisfied customer. They were recommended by another plumbing company, provided excellent customer service, and has courteous and thorough employees. I will be calling them the next time I need a plumber. I had a few experiences Vortex and thought Russell was a good knowledgeable plumber, but the last experience with another Vortex plumber was terrible, and they don't care about their customers. Plumber came to check a soft spot on the ceiling and within less than 15 minutes determined it to be caulking rather than a leak, so no work was done. I asked for a bill and he didn't give me one saying that the office would bill me later but it would probably be nothing because they had another job in the area. I am not used to plumbers giving freebies, do I emailed Debra at Vortex to note what the plumber did and that I was expecting a bill from them. Never heard back from anyone, nor received a bill in the mail. Apparently they billed my HOA $285 for TWO HOURS of work for TWO PLUMBERS. I called and emailed Vortex several times and was promised a response on one Friday and then on the next Friday - basically they think that billing inquiries should take weeks to address. No sense of reasonable timeframes. Three weeks later no one called me. One of the times I called I actually got Debra on the phone and she said that she was aware of my concern but she was training someone and didn't have time to deal with me. How's that for customer service? No time to deal with a customer that she billed incorrectly. She never called back by the end of the week when she promised to, so in 5 days she couldn't find any time to deal with a wrong bill issue. I tried to get in touch with the owner via LinkedIn but was also ignored. There are plenty plumber around, so they don't have my business anymore, you can give them your business, but if anything goes wrong, they may not have time to deal with you. After all they have more important office stuff to deal with than to work with a wronged customer. read more

Super slow Mike and his helper (trainee) charged me for 2 hrs of job to replace a shower handle cartridge - (2 workers 2 hours $214 labor only). That includes 40 min trip to Home Depot which is across the street from my home on Euclid/Riverside, 30 min to check any more leak after job completion and writing the invoice - that's more than an hour! Patrick was the 4th plumber we had out to look at our slow draining sink. With the first 3, they ran the snake twice, a 75 foot camera line, offered to tear the wall out, remove a 2 foot section of the garage floor to get to a possible problem, do a hydro flush of the pipes. Some of these possible fixes would have cost up to $2,000.00. But Patrick came out and within minutes he saw that it was a simple solution. The style of hardware in the sink didn't have a plunger but a metal screen type. It has about a dozen circled holes. This type is usually used for commercial use to prevent unwanted items from going into the drain. Patric drilled the holes a little larger and the slow draining water moved much faster. It was a refreshing change to have a plumber that didn't try to flush my pocket book. Thank you Patrick! read more
