New customer yesterday. I asked for color and haircut. I needed my roots to match the rest of my blond hair. The result, after 40-45 minute- without not once being checked, was orange hair on top and the rest white! The guy said it was because my hair tended to red. I complained and he then applied a toner which luckily was kept 10 instead of 15 minutes like he had said - again he never checked me once - and my hair turned a disgusting shade of blue-grey. The haircut was a bare trim, though he said he would style my hair and finally he used the straightening iron without asking. Total: $100. This is in no way professional work. First and last time for me. Stay away from this place. read more

I don't live in the area anymore but I came into town to see my family for my birthday, so I made an appointment after not seeing him for years and he made my hair look absolutely spectacular! Should be 0/5 stars, but there isn't an option. I went to get my roots done and the guy (I think his name was Paul) BURNED MY SCALP! To the point where it was Scabbing and bleeding for days, it burned so bad that it felt as if he threw acid on my head--I was on the verge of tears since it was just so painful. He kept telling me it was normal but I call another Salon (Essence) and they told me it was definitely Not normal at all. He originally said it was $55 and ended up charging me $70, I didn't have time to argue so just paid and left. $70 for orange roots, white line across my hair, and a burned bloody scabby scalp--no thank you. Not to mention, my hair looked worse then it did when I came in. My roots are not blonde but ORANGE and he blended the bleach into my already blonde hair and it turned white. So I have a stripe of orange and white along with the rest of my blonde hair. When I came back to address my concerns I was very respectful and he was not at all. He was being very rude and making it seem as if I was over reacting. I didnt receive any refund or a fraction of what I paid or anything . I will never be returning again. Please avoid this salon like the plague. There are many other salons in the area for the same price and with much friendlier and honest staff. I had a highlights disaster at a different salon (one in San Jose) the weekend before (the kind of hair incident where you are so unhappy with it that it ruins your week...) and I decided to see Tex at Vpaula to see if we could make my hair brighter and fix the dullness that the other place had caused. It takes a very long time to find a place where the highlights actually look bright, and where it is very visible and different (not just a few that nobody notices). I have been Tex's client since 2003 when he was still on Castro Street in Mountain View. I have moved around in the Bay Area quite a bit and we now ended up in Los Gatos. Just got a haircut with my son from this place moments ago. I knew about this haircut place when we moved here to Mountain View about 10 years ago. Little did I know that the ownership had changed hands and the lady that owned this business sold it to Tex who actually told me that he bought it from her about 2.5 years ago. Tex mentioned that he used to have his business on Castro St. but ridiculous rise in this areas lease costs forced him to relocate to a more affordable area. I remember this place many years ago as being old and outdated, but since Tex moved his business here, he really did a great job renovating and modernizing the place to give it a more new and inviting look and atmosphere. Now back to the haircut experience. Tex did a great job making the whole experience relaxing and made you feel important. He totally surprised me by calling me over to have my hair washed out to save me the trouble from washing it out when I got home. (I think I must have impressed him when I told him I frequently make reviews of businesses I visit here in the area and almost anywhere I also go to as well). He mentioned that this service was usually reserved for his businessmen/businesswomen clientele who usually don't have time to go back home and shower off clean-cut hair. It was nice to be pampered for that brief moment. Results of our haircuts- Awesome!! Both of our haircuts came out the same as what I showed him in the picture. Most importantly, my 11 year old son was very impressed with his haircut and the lady that gave him it did a great job as well. While driving back from the haircut place in the car, I asked him if he'd like to go back there again for his next haircut and he gladly replied "YES" with a smile on his face. His next question for me was, "How long will it take for my haircut to grow long ago so that we can go back?" Definitely we'll be back again for another haircut. read more

I discovered this place on Yelp. Tex is awesome! I have pretty long and thick dark asian hair and I came in for a color and trim. I showed him a photo of what I wanted and he mixed the color. While I was waiting for the color to take, I mentioned that I wanted to get my nails done. They have a manicure station, but don't do gel, so he referred me to the nail salon next door. So I walked over, foil and all, and got my nails done. I killed two birds with one stone! I came back and sat in the dryer for 10min. They washed my hair and trimmed it. He blew dry and curled it. He took my "unkept for 5 months" look, and gave me a great fade & beard trim. Even though I met him for the first time, he was friendly and easy to talk to. My friend accidentally discovered this salon, when she needed to fix her hair color as soon as possible. Tex was the one who took care of her hair and after that she keeps going to his salon.
