I've been going to V's since it opened a couple of years ago or so. It's clean and well appointed, with the pleasant little things that you'd generally expect (free bottled water, hot towels, shoulder massager applied towards the end of your cut etc). But I keep coming back because I get good haircuts there. The key to that is Jose, who is probably the best barber I've encountered in my 4+ decades. I like to call him 'The Professor', because he really is both a student and a master when it comes to hair. He's given great advice on adjusting my look when I've needed it, and always executes cuts efficiently and to perfection. It's worth calling with a day's lead time and requesting an appointment with him specifically (although I've also had numerous good cuts with other stylists). The overall barbershop itself is classy and looks like a spot to get a decent cut from, except that was not the case for me. I'm very particular with who I let cut my hair, but in a pinch for Valentine's Day, I decided to give this spot a chance since it's close enough to my job to get cut during my lunch break. Bad decision. Mert, I believe was his name, was very nice and gentle, but what I explained I wanted for a haircut is not at all what I got. I'm Jamaican and Albanian with longish (5" roughly) 3b curly hair (not anymore after this haircut) and requested to just have a low taper on the sides, and a lineup including beard. I said I may have some split ends, so maybe I'll trim very little off my hair just to keep it healthy. Mert proceeded to comb out my hair with a brush (1st mistake and I should've stopped him here) then completely buzz up the whole back of my head, and at that point, there was no turning back to correct this screw up. I let him finish in hopes that my haircut wouldn't look terrible, but the cut progressively got worse. I stopped him towards the end after he trimmed inches off the top of my hair to ensure I'd still have some curls left and not a buzz cut and had to have him blend my hair better because it looked terrible. I told him to just box line up the front corners and the cup line the sides into the beard.. this was the worst part of the haircut and it seemed Mert had never lined anyone up like this before. I was left with uneven sideburns and a screwed up mustache, I even had to lift the front of my hair because as he was "box lining me up" he was cutting off the curls that droop over my forehead. This is actually the worst haircut I've ever gotten, zero exaggeration. I typically don't leave reviews because I'm not one to complain, but if you're black/spanish with curly hair or want a typical shape up/edge up, this is not the spot for you. Take it from me and get your hair cut elsewhere, this place is a joke. I'm new to the area and was looking for a new barber so given the high reviews and modest price point, I thought I would give V's a try. Big mistake. My barber was Nick and he did such an incredibly poor job on my hair. I have a very simple ask, size 2 clippers on the side and the back with scissors on the top. I don't understand how one side of my head has shorter hair than the other. Furthermore, he went up far too high on the back so my hair on top looks like I have a bowl cut. Not to mention I have small hairs around my ears and other places that look completely out of place. $45 down the drain for this abomination. Needless to say I won't be returning. App deleted. I simply went in for a trim and small haircut. This guy Arnold or whoever seemed like he had no idea what he was doing. He used a razor blade and kept bumping it on one side of my head but didn't do that on the other. Horrible haircut I will never go here again. I never call and ask for correction I usually just leave but this was just bad. For almost $40 this is a joke, Although I do know they have decent barbers someone like this shouldn't be working here read more

Ok. Like the facilities. Manly haircut good. Problem arose when he cleaned up with a straight razor. A very dull razor. With cool/cold "foam". Went back home and took a shower, the back of my head stinging all the while. This shop was weighed, measured and found wanting. read more

I like the barbershop just fine. Jose was the person who but my hair and he is generally a nice person and does a good job. The barbershop is well kept and is well designed. However, be careful when setting appointments because they may not keep them. I made an appointment for Sunday Memorial Day weekend 2018 and they never showed up. The owner was in the back room and apologetically made an appointment the following Saturday at 11AM. I show up the following Saturday and Jose trying to hustle was finishing up his 10:30 appt and allowed a walk in to go ahead of me even though other barbers were free. Told me that I could wait if I want but that is the way it is. Extremely unprofessional and unexpected and very out of character. Not a special cut so I won't return! read more

I tried V's off a recommendation from my coworker. I was immediately impressed because they take online reservations. This is the first barber shop that I've been to that uses this technology. It's very helpful to cut down the wait time if you need a quick hair cut. I met with Jose for my appointment. He was wonderful. He asked my preference of how to style my hair and wanted to make sure everything was to my liking. He was very knowledgeable about how to cut my hair to make it look the best. They try to make the experience as comfortable as possible. They even let you choose what TV station you would like to watch during your appointment on the flat screen at every chair. I especially enjoyed the hot towel at the end which helped to capture any loose cut hair. read more

Still coming here as my regular spot. Would be good if they did a frequent flyer thing. Only improvement area is that they need to be a little more diligent with their scheduling commitments. Obviously people show up late and stuff, and in this business its difficult to stay on schedule, but as one of the only good haircut places that takes appointment that is a differentiator that they need to keep up. I've gotten good haircuts in the past here which is why I give it any stars. I called and asked what the wait was. Was told 3 people with 3 barbers which was about 20 minutes. I get there and there are 2 barbers. 3 people in front of me each go. Then a 4th goes ahead of me. Then a 5th and 6th, all who had gotten here after me. If this was going to be the case don't tell me otherwise and waste my time. Walk ins get no respect. Tip: book an appointment online in advance. You know a barber is good when you are willing to drive 25-30 minutes just to get there. V's is clean, the staff is well trained and professional and the place has that old school/classy feel to it. One of the main reasons I go there is Jose who is a true professional and you can tell loves his craft. His straight razor work is spot on and I have never had a bad experience there. I went to V's Barbershop in Chatham on a Sunday Morning. There was a line outside waiting for the shop to open. I was the last person in and waited about 20 minutes to get in the chair for a cut. My barber, Trish asked me what I wanted and I explained what I was looking for which was a fade and shape up. The actual cut itself was fine, but my shapeup was HORRIBLE. She pushed my hairline to far back. The overall shapeup was slanted plus uneven and she left random patches of hair on my forehead. When I realize how much of a horrible job she did, I went back and asked her to fix it. Her response was "do you want him to fix it" as she points to another barber. If she didn't feel confident in cutting my hair, she should have said so in the first place and told me to go to another barber. This is the second time I have been to this shop and I will never go back. This is the worst shapeup I have ever had and I had to wear my hair down all week just to hide my awful hairline. Do not waste your time unless you know the barber can do the job. V's Barbershop charged me $30 for a Supercuts quality haircut. I am disappointed. read more

Good haircut, but they rushed me and were unkind. The shop was nearly empty, yet they didn't really take sufficient time to do a good job. Barber tried to act nice, but would make rude remarks and didn't care a whole lot about my experience. I would advise them to make customer relations more important. This is an update to a review I wrote after having a pretty bad experience at V's in Chatham. I am writing it in an effort to be fair and give credit where credit is due. After posting my initial review, I was contacted by Jamie from V's apologizing for my experiencing and offering a gift certificate to make up for it. I took him up on the offer and I have gone back a few times since. My experiences have been much better and I plan on continuing to go back to V's. I was a little hesitant to try a new place with no reviews, but I bit the bullet because this place is close to my house. I was there on a Monday at 5:30 when the other barbershops in the area are usually pretty busy. There were only two people getting their hair cut, so I waited about 5 minutes for Jose. He is a perfectionist and highly skilled!! He asked how I wanted my hair and beard, made suggestions, and was meticulous. He used clippers and scissors on my hair and beard and then finished with a straight razor on the edges of my beard. Followed everything up with a hot towel, cold towel, aftershave and talcum powder. I tried V's and was pleasantly surprised. The appointment took about 20-30 minutes or so. I scheduled with Yelena. The pros... great facility, good cut, tvs, short massage, scheduled appts including late appts so I can go during work or after. The con... price is higher than I normally pay for a barber ($25 versus $16). I'm a pretty simple customer and I don't really need the extras, but that being said, I'm willing to pay the difference for a good convenient cut and I'm a happy customer now. read more

I really wanted to like this place and, generally, it is a great atmosphere with nice people. However, at the end of the day, you go there to get a haircut. In my case, I went to get my beard trimmed. I went once with a decent result. Then, I went to Jose, who butchered my beard. I had to go get it fixed and had to cut off several inches. Maybe they give good haircuts -- I don't know -- but I wouldn't trust my beard to them again. read more
