Plaza Barber Shop is a family-owned-and-operated, no-frills neighborhood barber shop that's been a fixture in the Morristown community since 1929. Four generations of the Russo family -- Joseph (who's manned his chair at Plaza Barber Shop for 63 years!), Joseph's son Gerry, Joseph's daughter Rosemary, and Joseph's grandson Albert -- provide quality haircuts at a very reasonable price ($20 for a basic razor/scissor cut). The Russos have fostered a very casual and friendly environment in the shop as well as a strong relationship with their customers and the community at large. The family has been very involved with local community service, religious organizations, and youth athletics organizations throughout the years -- so expect to witness Gerry holding court from his barbershop chair and sharing his opinion on local politics and community affairs while trimming the hair of some of Morristown's most esteemed citizens (and me). I'll admit that I was reluctant to return to Plaza Barber Shop for a haircut during the COVID-19 pandemic out of an overabundance of caution. Since re-opening last June, Gerry, Albert, and Rosemary have done a great job adopting new policies and procedures to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 to their customers including sanitizing all furniture and equipment between customers, requiring all customers to call ahead for an appointment, making sure each customer completes a contact survey and sanitizes their hands upon arrival, installing floor-to-ceiling plastic sheets between each station, and requiring all employees and customers to wear facemasks while they're in the shop. These actions -- along with receiving my second COVID-19 vaccination -- made me feel comfortable enough to venture back into Plaza Barber Shop after a year of haircuts performed by my wife -- lifting a metaphorical and actual weight off my shoulders. My regular barber was out of commission, and I was in town for a wedding. Did a quick search on Google and came across the Plaza. As it had some good reviews and I was overdue for a haircut, I decided to give them a try. When we got there,there was no one waiting and was seated in a chair immediately. As I like it high and tight, that's what I asked for. Unfortunately there was a miscommunication between myself and the barber. When he asked if I wanted it a little longer on top I told him no. I was thinking he was going to leave the front a little longer and keep the rest of the top of my head short. Well I was wrong he kept everything SHORT. I wound up with a crew cut instead of a high and tight. But I would still recommend this place. It wasn't entirely his fault. read more

Plaza Barber shop has been giving me basic crew cuts for about five years now. I always go early and Gerry always opens the shop at 8am, so he's the one who cuts my hair. I think their price of $15 is reasonable. His son Albert recently joined the shop. Sometimes a few people are in line ahead of me, the wait usually isn't too bad. Free wifi too. I came in here on the recommendation by my roommate. I wanted to grow out my hair, but then I chickened out and gave in to an impulse cut - I don't normally do that, especially when I don't know the barbershop. Like many guys, I just want to find a place that will give me a good, clean haircut with a little bit of style. This an old joint run by a family - they are friendly and treat the place more like a social gathering than a business, which is great! I asked to get short hair - 2 on the sides with a fade and 4 on the top. It was the longest haircut I've sat through. After what seemed ages, I was decently pleased with the outcome - it was a simple cut. BUT, when I went home and took a shower, I dismally realized that there was a chunk of hair at the back that wasn't cut. THAT SHOULD NOT EVER HAPPEN. I had to do a bit of diy with scissors myself. That really ticked me off. Not going back to this place. For 15 bucks plus tip, I'd rather not. read more

I went in because my favorite barber, Randy, was helping out recently. I love this place. The staff and owners were so nice. Free wifi too which was great when waiting for Randy to cut my hair. They don't take appointments so I did have to wait a bit. It was quite busy and seriously reminded me of a true Americana-type business. The owner of Morristown deli and a local vet were also getting their hair cut, so the gossip was flowing, but in a good way. I really enjoyed my time in there and look forward to coming back when Randy returns! read more

My son and husband both got hair cuts here and this is by far one of the worst places we have been. We have been to many places and gotten our fair share of bad haircuts somehow, but here the barbers are watching tv and having social hour while cutting hair. They did not listen as far as how short to cut and my sons hair was COMPLETELY crooked and different lengths. Had to go somewhere else to get it fixed. read more

Not impressed. The place is old, dirty, and has no air conditioning. The lady that cut my hair did a shoddy job, did not know how to clip my hair, and did not even bother to make any sort of friendly conversation or even a "how are you?" Thankfully, I only gave her a simple job of trimming the sides as I wouldn't trust this place with anything more complicated. I also had hair all over my neck when I got home. This place needs to clean up and try harder to make a more pleasant experience or drop their prices down a few bucks from $15. read more

Back to "old school" original barber shop. Nothing fancy, just back to the basics for a clean cut. No appointment necessary and if you have to wait it is only a few minutes, cash only ($15) and they will provide you a coupon if it's your first visit to see them again. Jerry took his time with my boyfriends hair, they chatted throughout and he left with a good cut, exactly as he asked the first time around, and the intention of coming back. I've been going to Jerry for many years. My son also goes there. This is an old-fashioned barber shop with a barber pole turning in front. Everyone working there is related. There are 3 generations under the roof. The most senior member is probably in his 70's, in great physical condition and does a great haircut. His son, Jerry is the fellow I usually have cut my hair. Jerry's son is there now and is also an excellent barber. There are 2 women, I believe 1 is Jerry's cousin and the other is Jerry's sister. In the winter, the senior barber, who was born in Italy, brings his citrus trees in and puts them in the barber shop window - there is a lot of sunshine throughout the day coming through the glass. In the summer, he has his tomato plants and whatever else he has. The atmosphere is very social. It's a great, friendly place with old-world ambiance and free wi-fi, television and air conditioning in the summer. It's a cash business, however, the prices are ridiculously low and the quality of haircuts and service is great! Like the old-time barber shops, anything you want to know about the area including the best restaurants, where to find Italian specialty stores, who to hire to have windows installed, who to get to paint your house - you name it - Jerry can provide for you. This is an entertaining, friendly barber shop full of old-time charm as well as great service and excellent haircuts for a more than reasonable fare. My son, who is an professional actor, lives in New York. He tried several barbers in the city and had disastrous results. Each time he came out to Jerry to have him fix the bad cut. He now takes the train to Morristown, gets a haircut, socializes a bit, visits with us, has lunch or dinner and takes the train back. Plaza Barber Shop, this is the best in town! read more
