Super attentive staff -- from the host, to the server (thank you, Mehdi!!!), to the bartender who came to our table to answer our wine list questions. Upscale, gorgeous restaurant. Even if you are just stopping in for a cocktail definitely worth the stop. We had my birthday dinner here, prices were fair and the food amazing. The calamari was life changing. My fiance had the salmon, and I had a steak. We ate while we watched the waves crash into the pillars at our feet. Over priced for what you get. We stayed next door at the breakers inn. We ordered clam chowder and flat bread. My husband chose spare ribs for his entree and I the Sardinian. The short ribs were not short ribs it was more of a pot roast. Typically short ribs are not fatty and usually have a bone/bones in. My Sardinia had 1 muscle and one clam and 2 shrimp and a chunk or two of cod. The rest was a mound of pasta for sure not enough for what we spent. Our bill was $140 and we didn't even order alcohol. The only thing that I would say was delicious was the flat bread!!! It was delicious I wished I would have had that for my meal only. read more

We had a previous dinner that was great last Oct. But last night the food did not have any flavor. Our calamari dipping sauces tasted like tomato sauce and the aioli was more like mayonnaise. The Caesar salad dressing tasted like mayonnaise also. My bouillabaisse was flavorless. We waited an hour and half to get our food We let our waiter know. A bit disappointing, overall, especially given the price. While the service was excellent, and the people were both knowledgeable and friendly, there were several things that put us off. To begin, we thought it was pretty bad they were all out of chicken. While they were also out of fish as well, the fish part made sense, as the fish is something that is locally brought in (as explained to us). The chicken, however, is something that should be a "standard" item, and they shouldn't be missing that. The calamari was only OK - it was a relatively small portion (at least compared to other places), and it was a bit rubbery. Disappointing for the location this place is in. The fish and chips, despite tasting good, were also lacking - it only came with ONE piece of fish, and the fries were a bit oily as well. Finally, the pork was relatively bland - it took tartar sauce from my fish and chips to make it "good." To summarize, this WILL be a "one-and-done" sort of place. My husband and I came to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Staff was welcoming, helpful, and friendly. We came just before sunset and enjoyed the beautiful view as we settled in. We started with a long island ice tea which was stiff and delicious. Then we got oysters on the half shell and calamari as appetizers. The presentation is great and the calamari comes with a sweet sauce and a savory sauce. I dont care for oysters but my husband had them with both sauces; he really liked the champagne sauce (which is really vinegary and garlicky). For dinner I had the Tipsy Sardinian which was so comforting and delicious, we both really enjoyed this. My Husband got the braised short ribs after reading the reviews about them, they were so good! Meat so so tender. He says it was one of the top 10 meals he has ever eaten. We cant wait to try more of the menue! read more

Wow! Went to inquire about 15 people for dinner at 5:00 on a WEDNESDAY. I was told we would have to buy out the restaurant for $7000. Yes, that's 7,000 for 15 people. Really disappointed in my second interaction in a few days at this restaurant. Beautiful place and decent food however we showed up with our friend traveling from out of town and there was no one on the patio. We were told only two dogs on the patio which is fine, but after being seated were also told we had to have drinks inside at the bar. The hospitality was not accommodating nor making any effort to get us to stay. They could have told us to be out at a certain time, and we would have, but again the patio and restaurant was empty at 6pm on a Friday night. We won't be back. read more

Stop here for drinks but definitely skip the overpriced and decidedly average food. Cocktails and location were great, but the food is a disappointment and service is struggling. Very overpriced for what you get. We were 4 ladies and when we asked our waiter, were assured that the $20 appetizer board would ample to share. 3 teeny-tiny slivers of cheese and a thimble full of tapenade. Not quite. This was followed by very average mains. I ordered the cod with sides of chard and mashed potato. Rock cod, not specified on the menu, was fine instead of true cod. It's local so that's a good thing. However, after the puny appetizer I burst out laughing at my "side" of chard - it was literally one half of a leaf! You really can't make this up. Things went from bad to worse when I then found tin foil in my mashed potato. My main was kindly removed from the bill, but with a needless explanation of how that was impossible, since they only wrap their potato in cling film, not foil. Our waiter was friendly but clearly overwhelmed, as we never saw him again after he delivered the mains. Our water glasses were empty the whole meal despite several requests. We had a bad experience in this building back in 2016 when it was the Sandbar, but tried it again under the new ownership. We felt the portions were small for the prices being charged, but the rumors about their new chef were proven true-- the quality was excellent. For daylight eating or a bar stop there is no other restaurant in Gualala with the river and seashore view this place offers from the bluff. read more

We had dinner here last Friday evening. We are two couples who visit this area every year and are always looking for good restaurants. We were pleasantly surprised with a very good dinner at the Vue Kitchen. The menu is diverse from the Calamari to the Dim Sum that we had for appetizers, along with two salads. For our main courses, we had the Short Ribs which were very tender and Osso Bucco which was falling off the bone. We also had a unique Fish and Prawn Linguini in a Vodka Sauce and the catch of the day which was Salmon. This is not an inexpensive café, the prices are similar to what you would pay in the bay area. We have been back to Vue several times over the past few months. Most recently today for lunch. Our service was timely, attentive and most friendly. Arturo represents this eatery very well. Food was quite good. I had the spicy Singapore pasta... very good. My wife tried a couple glasses of wine...not to her liking. Immediately replaced no charge. That is good service! Not many remaining dining options in Gualala. Cosy atmosphere, great vue, nice bar, but downhill from there. The server was gregarious and positive about every dish particularly raving about their award winning chowder. Unfortunately neither he nor the restaurant could deliver. As they say, "Don't BS a BS'r!" The prices are high, the portions small and the food mediocre at best. The lambchops were mostly fat. The Osso Bucco could not be finished. One item was never delivered (immediately deleted from the bill by the hostess) and the individual entrees were not brought to the table close to the same time. Oh, the chowder could have come from a can! My advice-- use the local grocery stores, have a pizza or spend a little more at St. Orres. In essence we 4 guys had the same bad experience as Christine C. and her 3 lady friends had in June. read more

Such a delicious dinner in a beautiful location! We started with the crab cakes which were fresh with herbs and light sauces. We shared the Sardinian, steak with chimichuri, and the fish and chips. The Sardinian had a perfect level of spice to cut the creaminess of the sauce, the tartar that came with the fish and chips was really great and the steak was cooked very well. We had clam chowder, calamari, salmon and rib eye steak. All the dishes were bland. They all needed salt. Low sodium PC, no salt on the table. The grilled salmon came with purple colored cauliflower too tough to eat and garlic mashed potatoes that were missing garlic and salt. The calamari was greasy, probably due to deep fryer not being hot enough. But it came with pesto toast that also was missing garlic. "Award-winning" clam chowder was really potato chowder, very few clams. Ribeye, served on bed of black rice, was tender. Rice was il dente. Including one glass of wine and two beers, total was $159.64. Service was above average. I tipped $50.00, mostly because I felt sorry for the staff. read more

We came to Vue for my best friend's birthday dinner after reading some great reviews about the popularity of this new restaurant. However, it was pretty disappointing... here's why: The food was mediocre. The calamari lacked flavor, the soup arrived lukewarm, and the caesar salad was drenched in dressing. We ordered the fries, which are nothing special and overpriced. The cheeseburger was decent, but the bun was stale. Of all the food we ate, the ceviche was probably the best. It should also be noted there is no cocktail menu (even though they had an entire bar full of alcohol), beer list, or wine by the glass list. Overall, the best way to describe the service is frazzled. The hostess left us waiting without menus for about five minutes (and we still did not get menus until we asked for them). The waitress only checked-in with us about every 15-20 minutes and in general felt very absent. She was kind and helpful, but again - frazzled. The view was beautiful, but we were so preoccupied by the lacking service and inadequate food, the view didn't seem to make up for the experience. It could be a fun place to sit at the bar and/or eat casual appetizers outside on the patio, but their dinner service was sub par. read more

This establishment was pretty much the only place open and the menu sounded good. We have no problem with enjoying a good meal and know that it can sometimes be a bit pricey for good food. The calamari appetizer was delicious-I loved the sauce, and the cut of the day-a ribeye steak-was also yummy. We were in Gualala on our honeymoon, and we walked into this restaurant after having spent a day at the beach. After buying art from a local vendor at the farmer's market, the artist told us her art was on display here, so we came by to take a peek. I went inside, (saw a bunch of open tables in the back as I was looking around,) then figured we'd eat here since it was our honeymoon, even though we were a little under- dressed, (a bit frumpy, but nothing revealing or anything with holes,) but we figured, it's Northern California, we'd be fine. We asked the red-haired host how long it would be to get seated on the patio, and he said he thought 15 minutes, but he'd check with someone. We sat and waited. He came back and said it would actually be a while. We asked how long, and he said, "A really long time." I said, "Ok, we'll sit inside," and he gave us a weird look, and said "That's also a really long wait." I asked how long, and he said "A reeaally long time, too long for you, probably. I said, "We can sit in the back, that's fine," having seen the many open tables in the back where a few people were sitting, and he said there was no room, so I said I thought I'd seen a bunch of tables back there, and he said he had to fit a table of 8 back there (even though there were many other tables...) We were getting a really weird vibe off the guy as if he really didn't want us there, so we pushed a little just to be sure we weren't crazy. "So there's nowhere we could eat here?" I asked. "You could open a tab at the bar," he said. (We realized he may have thought we were going to dine and dash?) No apology, no smile, no normal display of regret or anything. And we definitely weren't being rude, or anything! At that point, we politely declined, and left. When we exited, we checked in with each other, and both of us had separately gotten the same vibe of not being wanted there. We have never been treated like this anywhere before, so we were both kind of stunned and a bit offended. It felt very surreal. (And we've definitely dealt with being turned away from full restaurants before, so it's not like we're just offended that we didn't get a spot. It was the way we'd be turned away like we were second class citizens.) We managed to laugh it off and have a good evening elsewhere, but geez, we weren't *that* shabbily dressed. A weird honeymoon experience for sure. Go to the Gualala hotel or the pizza place next door to the hotel if you want a good meal with friendly staff. We were treated like normal people at both of those places. read more

On 7/22/18 I took a party of six here for dinner. VUE automatically added the "GRATUITY" for 6 or more which was $48 in my case to my itemized bill. On my charge slip I drew a line through the "TIP" space since it was already included. When I got my VISA bill VUE had added a second $48 anyway! I am disputing this charge via VISA. How many people look that closely at their charge bills and have saved the itemized restaurant bill and the customer copy of the signed slip? It is sad when a customer has to go to that effort to protect themselves. We are long-time Sea Ranch visitors and often eat in Gualala. This was the first and last time we will go to VUE. Their higher prices reflect their prime location overlooking the river and ocean. However their food was below the general level of quality and taste in this area. They don't even have a printed wine list and the server had to tell us what they offered and a general range of prices. We could not tell how much different wines would cost. It seems that they are exploiting a great location and are not concerned about repeat business. read more

I feel like a broken record; however, I have to give a shout out to Vue Kitchen once again. We went there last week and shared a local rock cod ceviche dish with housemade taco chips (not greasy or over-salted). The highlight of the meal was the special of fresh scallops. As anyone who cooks them know, they are tricky. These were PERFECT--succulent, juicy, seared perfectly and well-seasoned. We order them "medium rare," as seafood/fish is not great if overdone. Kudos to Chef John and owner David! We have decided you are the only local restaurant we will go to in the future...none other matches your quality. And the service by Kerry was good too. read more

A mildly disappointing dinner. First the positives: - The restaurant itself is a pretty cool structure, and the view out to the ocean is killer - No crazy wait for a table (though we did visit on a week night) - The crab dim sum appetizer was very tasty, only just a tad over fried near the top crunchy bits - The portion sizes were pretty solid, we didn't leave hungry - The strawberry parfait for dessert was delicious Now a few negatives: - Service was lackluster. There seemed to be confusion between the hosts and servers with the hosts regarding the wine list and possible specialty cocktails on the menu (there were none, they just had a full bar). Once we ordered, our appetizer showed up well before our drinks did. We also had to ask multiple times to get water for the table. There were just a ton of little hiccups that you wouldn't expect for a restaurant in this price point. There was one server working other tables who did seem to be more on his game, though we didnt interact with him much - The entrees. Neither entree really hit the mark. The catch of the day was severely under seasoned and the tarragon cream sauce advertised was definitely not creamy. The vegetable included was big slivers of carrot and celery too hard to cut with a fork which was weird when paired with a flaky (albeit under-seasoned piece of fish). The rice was good though. The sardinian? fish/prawn dish in the "spicy vodka sauce" was neither spicy, nor in a vodka sauce. It was more of a one note salty alfredo sauce. The portion size was good, but I would have definitely ordered something else had it been described as it was actually prepared - Cost. The catch of the day rang up at something like $36 and the alfredo fish pasta at something like $30. At that price point, you'd really expect to have excellent service and properly seasoned dishes. They do have some cheaper options (which other reviews have lead me to believe are pretty delicious), so maybe try those. Vue has the markings of a place that just needs to put a few more pieces together and it will be great. Next time I pass through the area I'll see how others have reviewed it since and drop in if it seems to be on the up and up. read more

We ordered takeout from here a couple days ago and it was one of the worst meals we have ever had. Don't make the mistake of wasting money trying this place out like we did. The chicken could not have possibly been more over-cooked. We tried to eat it and ended up having to throw it out. The stuffed squash was also terribly dry and just inedible. The stir fry was great compared to how bad everything else was, but I wouldn't get it again. The beet salad was actually good. I should add that we arrived early to pick up the food so that it wouldn't sit long. I'm not hopeful an in-house meal would be any better. We'll stick to other restaurants in Sea Ranch moving forward. Don't waste your time or money. It was surprisingly gross. read more
