I absolutely loved this restaurant. My friends and I were hanging out nearby after enjoying some really good food, and when we stopped in, everything was clean and the staff were genuinely kind and welcoming. It's the kind of place that makes you want to keep coming back and support a local business. The only reason my visit took an emotional turn was unexpectedly seeing the owner of a nearby construction business. Knowing what I know, I instantly felt uneasy and uncomfortable. In a small town filled with so many families and children, that feeling hit even harder. I immediately knew I would never support that business again. Thankfully, that experience doesn't reflect this construction business at all. The business itself was wonderful, and the employees made me feel welcome from the moment I walked in. We were so pleasantly surprised by this little Thai spot in Gualala on a weekend trip. We weren't expecting much but this place might actually be one of my favorite Thai restaurants I've been to in California. We got the pad thai with chicken and green curry with chicken and a side of brown rice. The brown rice was the fun kind with that great texture, super yummy with the green curry. Green curry was super flavorful and packed with veggies and chicken. Thai tea with coconut milk was a little sweet for me but still very very flavorful. Was staying at Rendevous Mendocino and was super surprised to hear there was an authentic Thai restaurant open at night nearby! As a Cambodian-American, Southeast Asian food is my favorite cuisine and Anchor Bay Thai was such a delightful surprise! Walking in to see gorgeous murals and warm lighting, the restaurant had a lot of seating and was pretty full on a Friday night. My partner and I were not too hungry but still ended up ordering 3 dishes which were larger than expected because we wanted to try them. When I saw all the ethnic ingredients like galanga and keffir leaves written in the menu, I knew it was going to be good. I will admit I was a little scared to see the Beef Larb salad & Tom Kha look different than expected but they were YUMMY! I loved how dank the salad was with strong fish sauce flavors. The Tom Kha was very home-y and deliciously spicy. The Thai BBQ chicken really took me back to my childhood with how smokey and juicy it was. I will say the unseasoned steamed veggies underneath was not as yummy but also I needed some plain veggies to balance the other strong flavors. From reading the reviews, it seems that one's experience is completely dependent on what day you go. For us? We went on a Tuesday night in November 2025. Arrived at 5:30 pm. The place was surprisingly busy for what we thought would be a quick, early dinner. Nearly all tables (maybe there are 15?) were full, and as the night went on: they all filled up. Problem #1 was there was only one waiter to work the entire front of the house. He was greeting and seating people, waiting on all the tables, taking take out orders over the phone and manning the cash register for the endless stream of takeout pickups. There was a second woman who was bussing tables and handing out menus, but not doing much else we could see and contributing nothing to expedite anything. It took 30 minutes before we were asked to order. Then when we did, we were told they were out of three of the 5 items wanted on the menu. How does a Thai restaurant run out of Pad Thai at 5:30? No more house salad? And then to top it off, we ordered two different beers, and when he brought them back 10 minutes later, we find out that one of the varieties we ordered was also out. Would we like something else? But our menus were taken so I'll just have what she's having, I guess. Giving 2 stars as the food was edible (nothing mind-blowing) and we did eventually eat. Getting the check paid was another ordeal of hunting down someone to help. It should not take 90 minutes for two people to each get served an entree and a beer, but on this night it did. read more

Good flavors, high prices. It has been awhile since my last review and I wanted to check in on our coastal Thai restaurant. My thoughts remain largely unchanged: it's a solid (if extremely pricey) Thai option. **Note** with Covid, they ate adding $1- $2 surcharges per entree that are not advertised on their websites menu. Ordered a smorgasbord of dishes (overkill for 2, but we love the variety of flavors): Duck Panang curry, chicken pad graw prow, tofu pad Thai, som tum (ie. green papaya salad) and a side of jasmine rice. I would 100% repeat on the tofu pad Thai and Som tum. Excellent flavors, textures and freshness. The Panang curry itself was rich and delicious, however, the quantity and quality of meat left much to be desired. I know that duck is a fattier meat, however, with the massive price difference ($25 versus $16... And that's before including the Covid-surcharge), I was expecting more than a bite or two of duck. Sadly, 80% of the 'meat' was inedible. With that being said, the flavors of the curry itself are worthy, just stick with chicken or tofu! read more

The only Thai restaurant around this area. The place is decorated with wall art. We ordered take out as the restaurant was going to close in about 25 minutes. They had a water dispenser with fruit and roses in it and the water had a lovely scent of rose. Overall, a nice place to have your meal. We ordered fresh spring rolls, the green papaya salad, pad thai with pork and the yellow chicken curry. The spring rolls were good with pickled veggies in it. The green papaya salad as ok, I would've like more tangier sauce to go with it. Pad Thai was ok although the pork was overcooked. Yellow curry had a lot potatoes as filler but overall not too bad. O M G ! We were just driving through along the PCH, and we were DYING for some good food on this chilly day. We had no service and there wasn't a building in sight. All of a sudden, I got a few bars, and this was the first place to pop up, only a few min away! As huge Thai fans, we were blown away with how delicious everything was. Thai Tea - 10/10 - the best we have EVER HAD., Panang curry 11/10, you could tell they care so much about their food. Also the Great White beer was nice and refreshing..it was cool to get a local Cali beer (from Eureka) - staff was so sweet too. Location: its in the anchor bay square right next to a barber shop and a merchandise store. Its on highway 1 itself so u can pick it up if u are on the way too. Ample parking right outside their doorstep. Busy: call ahead as they are super busy and have long wait time for picking up orders. We called ahead and the wait time was 45 mins for 2 dishes. They also are open only in the evening for limited hours so make sure u check the hours online. Order: we ordered penang curry chicken medium spicy and drunken noodles (pad ke mow) chicken spicy total $32. Huge portions but no side of rice with curry. Tip: they charge extra for rice so make sure u order rice with your curry. Deducting 1 star as they messed up our order and added an appetizer we never ordered (thankfully we checked the $45 bill) and even upon asking for cutlery they only put in 2 spoons. Not sure how to eat drunken noodles without fork :( Medium spicy was good for average folks so i suggest u order medium spicy if u r ordering first time. Yellow chicken curry with nearly raw onions, tomatoes (never seen them in yellow curry before) and the sauce so thin it might as well have been broth. Appies were good. We mentioned the poor mains to the server who seemed overwhelmed and hadn't bothered to check on us until it was time to go. (No action was taken, no apology.) This place deserves a five star! I have been to Thailand many times and this place tastes super authentic. The menu says they use real palm sugar and coconut milk so I figured I must get their curry! Here are my favorites: Tom Yum soup with pork, always consistent, very invigorating. Pad Thai, a crowd pleaser. I have to say that I'm not a fan of the beef with anything, just sayin'! My favorite proteins that I've had with dishes are pork or prawns. We had green and red curries last night and my pallet enjoys the green. "Curry in" and let me know which is your favorite! And for heaven's sake don't forget to order the jasmine rice which matches perfectly with the curries! On spice heat: I have never had anything here that was a spicy heat I couldn't take. Someone once told me that if you are far from home and you are looking for somewhere to eat and you find a Thai restaurant, you should go - and trust that it will be good. In any tiny town on the globe where you wouldn't expect it. This has served as a culinary compass for me anytime we are traveling and looking for something tasty - and it hasn't let me down yet. When we found Anchor Bay Thai Kitchen in the very tiny town of Anchor Bay (just north of Gualala), we gave it a try and ordered takeout. I'm so glad that we did. This Thai food - everything we ordered - was STELLAR. We spent over $100 on dinner and it was worth every penny. We ordered the the spring rolls with tofu (fresh rice paper rolls), deep fried prawns, crispy fried tofu, Som Tum salad with fresh green papaya, shrimp, peanuts, green beans and tomato in a lime dressing with fish sauce, Pad Thai, green curry with chicken, duck curry (red curry) and an order of white rice and of brown rice. It was a feast! Kids particularly love the Pad Thai and thank goodness I ordered two orders because they went through the first very quickly. So often Pad Thai is padded out with bean sprouts so you don't end up getting many noodles. This was the first restaurant experience where the quantity of noodles matched my kids' appetites and flavor profile was delicious - complex and traditional and everything you want from Pad Thai. It makes me emotional thinking about it! The green curry that I had was loaded with chicken and great vegetables - NORMAL THAI VEGETABLES like eggplant, green beans, bell peppers (sometimes restaurants get weird here and throw in things like carrots. But not here). And the brown rice was nutty and had a great bite to it. I am all about this dish. We should have ordered more than deep fried prawns because that was my favorite appetizer from all of the appetizers. Service at pick up was friendly and they double checked the order with me to make sure they didn't forget anything (which was really nice and something that doesn't always happen). They close at 7 pm so make sure you order before then - also they are closed on Mondays. Parking is easy - right in front. read more
