Good Mexican food is hard to find in the Tacoma area, but this place is one of the most authentic I've experienced. It is a small Hispanic owned restaurant that provides excellent service and a great menu. The ambiance reminds me of eating in a small family restaurant in Mexico. I tried the prawns a la diabla which included rice and refried beans. I also tried the beef asada burrito. Both of these menu items were fantastic. The beef was tender and very tasty. The prawns were also large and tender. I liked the ability to watch the chef prepare my food for takeout. There is plenty of seating inside the restaurant and also a small private party room. If you are seeking good authentic Mexican food, this place is definitely worth the trip.

Went to. Alley Liquidators up the street for some bargains now hungry! Stopped in here to have a Chile Rellieno Al la cart! Soooo delish ( snack before dinner at home ) Hubby had half lb of Carnitas with side of tortillas. See pix. The sauce for the Chiles if just sooo perfect and spicy!! Sauped up the rest with his tortillas. And those are so fresh too!!

Torts and tacos for dinner

Ok lots of people told me I should eat here and I finally did, pretty good food here not high end but down to earth. My torta was tasty as hell. The tacos are pretty bomb and the beans are really freaking good. It's always a good sign when the beans are impressive. If they had a bar it would be even better

Friendly service, recipes are good. Enchilada plate comes with a lot of food. Just wish there were more options to customize the enchiladas

Is the salsa sweet?

I not sure but food was amazing

Do they use natural or organic meat?

"Real" Mexican places serve what we'd call peasant food , the best! My grandmother could take a cheap cut of meat and turn it into sheer yumminess, as did her ancestors. So if…

It is a bit smaller, but food wise I will be back! We went for a dinner and it did not disappoint. Lines for the drive through are long, so we went inside to dine. Loved how sweet and patient the ladies were taking our order. You order your food first, and then they will bring it out for you. Little salsa bar, Coke drinks, huge flavorful portions will make you happy that you visited. I ordered the birria, and although I wished for more consommé, I think if you ask they would have given it. The burrito is epic. Overall so happy to have gone and enjoyed it!

We had adobada, asada and chicken tacos, added a side of fried onion and serrano pepper. The adobada meat was ok, chicken was good and our favorite was the asada. I didn't like the default salsa they put on the tacos, would've preferred just onion and cilantro. In fact I didn't like any of the salsas they offered, the green salsa was the only decent one and I'm sure the orange looking salsa was on its way out, it tasted and smelled funky. Customer service was great. We might come back just for asada tacos but maybe not.

Doing an update after not being in Moctezuma's for a long time…read more Someone gave me the impression that the food wasn't as good as it used to be and one of the last times I was here the wait to get seated was quite long. It's good that they are doing so well however. The parking lot always looks full. My last visit here was after a planned meal stop somewhere else fell through. I still wanted supper and I was in the vicinity and decided if I could get into Moctezuma's. I got in with ease (there was just me) and seated right away. I haven't had a taco salad in I don't know how long so I ordered one of those. I also got a small sized Spicy Cucumber Margarita. The taco salad was good, very satisfying as well as the chips and salsa that came along with it. The Margarita was great, very refreshing with the cucumber and spiciness blending together nicely. Service was prompt and friendly. I still have a good impression with what I had for this place from meals of several years ago and if you do precise timing (like early supper arrival time (4:30-5 p.m.) or lunch you are more than likely to find seating easier.

She was welcoming, attentive, and genuinely cared about making sure everything was right with my order. She treated me like I mattered, not like I was just another customer grabbing food and leaving. The tip I left was specifically for Alejandra because she earned every bit of it. She did far more than simply hand me a bag her kindness, professionalism, and willingness to help made a lasting impression. Great customer service like hers deserves to be recognized. Thank you, Alejandra, for making my experience such a positive one!

Our waiter, Mark, was incredibly attentive -- checking in regularly, keeping drinks topped off, and making sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed. Exactly the kind of hospitality that makes a meal memorable. We started with the Guacamole Sampler -- Traditional, Carlito's Way, and Austin Style -- served with warm housemade chips and their signature salsa. Every style had its own personality, and the flavors were spot‑on across the board. A fantastic way to kick off the meal. For my entrée, I went with the Seasonal Al Pastor Tamales, and wow... this dish is a true taste of the south. The ancho, guajillo, and achiote citrus slow‑roasted pork was rich and tender, perfectly balanced by cumin black beans, pickled pineapple, white onion, and serrano salsa. Every bite had depth, heat, and brightness. My wife ordered the Smoked Chicken Tomatillo Soup -- hominy, red bell peppers, carrots, onions, chipotle, buttermilk crema, cilantro, and blue corn tortilla strips. Served with fresh housemade sopes, it was comforting, flavorful, and beautifully layered. A perfect bowl for any season. We also shared the Navajo Fry Bread -- honestly, this should be listed under desserts. Warm, soft, slightly sweet, and absolutely delicious. The overall vibe was relaxed and inviting. It can get a bit noisy -- especially for someone like me who's hard of hearing -- but the energy is still warm and enjoyable. Cactus never disappoints. From the kitchen to the front‑of‑house, the team consistently delivers great food, great service, and a great experience. Hats off to the cooks and staff for another fantastic visit. We'll definitely be back.
