Supposedly in Texas you cannot Conceal to Carry. Head of security is over aggressive. I arrived at the W Hotel on official business working as a Private Investigator. I purchased a suite at the W hotel costing over a thousand dollars which made me an invited guest of the hotel and a paying customer; also making it possible for me to have access to all the common areas of the hotel. While conducting my investigation at the hotel I maintained being discreet and never making any visitor or hotel guest uncomfortable. Tom and his security staff confronted me and asked me what I was doing at the hotel because I was occupying a room that was part of a private event that to my knowledge was not private. I walked right past hotel staff no personnel stopped me or told me I could not enter to grab a drink at the bar. I then had a sit down conversation with Tom and he said that as long as I don't break any rules or hotel policy; he would help me out to the best of his ability. Tom ended up being conniving and called Austin Police Department. I am a licensed investigator and have a License to Carry (even though I do not have my handgun on my person at this time.) I had my hat in the back of my my pants over my shirt (being respectful of being inside.) Tom (Head of Security) called the Austin Police Department. The Austin Police Department searched, frisked and put me in handcuffs. After no sign of any weapon; Tom had me CTW (Criminal Trespass Warning) and the 8 APD officers escorted me up to my room and then out of the W. I lost over a thousand dollars (Room Cost & Bar.) I did not receive any type of reimbursement or compensation. I was also told I could never come back to the W. I am a professional business traveler originally from Texas. I am completely disgusted and disappointed that a head of security falsely claimed I had a gun just to get me to leave. read more

This hotel is simply beautiful, and well-located right off the heart of Austin's downtown district. The doormen were extremely courteous (as would be expected), the lobby was spotless, and the Lounge on the first floor was quite the place to see and be seen. I was in Austin for a wedding and stayed at this hotel for just a night, and let me tell you...the pool is awesome! It's not particularly on the big side, but the atmosphere and design of the outdoor pool just makes for a fun time. If you show up on a sunny day, be sure to relax and take some time there! In terms of the rooms, they're comfortably spacious. However, if you're not there with someone you're 100% comfortable with, the bathrooms are not meant non-couples. There is no bathroom door. The shower door is glass. The only privacy you'll get in this place is when you excuse yourself to use the toilet. Other than that though, very cool hotel and neat layout. read more

For a hotel that prides itself on providing excellent service to their guests, these clowns couldn't even notify us of a package that arrived via 24 hr FEDEX, saying they need another 24 hrs to notify guests of its arrival. How much intelligence do you need to understand if something comes via rush delivery...that maybe, you should let your guest know right away that it's waiting for them before letting them check out?! I'm quite sure if it was any matter regarding money coming to their hotel, it would have been addressed immediately. It was extremely disappointing that there was no accountability, and everyone who answered their phone was supposedly a "manager" who refused to offer a solution, except to offer to charge you further on your credit card on file. Not very 5-Star-oriented, very, very disappointed in the lack of professionalism and their acute ability in side-stepping their supposed brand "quality of service." Too many other better options in Austin that will provide superior services, without the pretentious and uncaring attitude. read more

If i could give a minus i would. This is a newer hotel but looks worn out. The bar scene is right off the lobby door so you have endless sloppy young drunks pouring out. The color scheme reminds me if what an underground bordello in Amsterdam would look and feel like. The no other option $35 parking REALLY! The mini-bar prices are over the top, which goes with the good reviews of this place. The bed was mediocre and thats what your there for. The staff believe that they are on some other state of mind where they make the guests feel as if you are beneath them..ha ha. Wheres the warm Tx hospitality? It saddens me to have to write this review but after last night's experience at the W it has to be done. As a local I've done everything at this W BUT spent the night. I've stayed at other W hotels and have been extremely impressed especially by the customer service where this hotel is seriously lacking. I regularly use the pool, spa, eat at Trace and use their Valet as well (which I don't know are hotel employees or contracted out honestly). No one seems to be on the same page here and if you are not staying the night even if you are dropping money there you are treated quite differently. The hotel reeks of pretentiousness lately. It's a newbie on the Austin scene and at a few hundred bucks a pop a night for a basic room they certainly act they they are the best in the game and they really could care less if you disagree especially if you don't have the money to back up your opinion. I may not roll up in an Aston Martin and demand get prompt service but when I'm here it's usually for a special reason and I'm spending hard earned money and expect to be treated accordingly. I've never felt like such a bum walking off the street into a hotel as I do at this place and it's not a welcoming feeling. Even calling the front desk to confirm a reservation and ask a question left me with a bad taste. Now for specifics. The valet last night tried to charge me a ridiculous amount for the service even though I was well under the "3 hour rule". They had the time entered in wrong and instead of checking with the restaurant or someone there he made me list all of the things we ate and drank for dinner.....really? Do I look like such a degenerate that I can't afford a meal at this place? That was a first. No vouchers are given at the restaurant for parking and we even double checked with our server during dinner, who said she would ask someone else, we were told there was a flat rate. So regardless there seems to be a lack of communication going on. Speaking of dinner, upon entering the restaurant absolutely no one greeted us. Everyone looked, but no one greeted.....We stood around awkwardly until the hostess arrived and instead of starting with "good evening how are you" it was "Do you have a reservation?" Cut right to biz....because if you don't have a reservation I don't have to be nice to you or make an attempt to accommodate you? We did have a reservation and were thus seated promptly at one of the MANY open tables where we received service from a woman who seemed like she REALLY did not want to be there. The food is always great and the drinks are OK. I don't know that i'll be going out of my way to bring out of town guests here again though. As far as the pool and spa go, both are nice. The employees at the spa seem to have their stuff together and are very helpful. The pool staff is about the same as the restaurant staff. Unless you're sitting in a cabana getting bottle service don't expect that "Above and beyond" service. I walked from the pool to the spa in my swimsuit and was promptly told I needed to put clothes on for the 10 feet I had to walk to then get undressed for a spa service.... The pool is very small and get's pretty crowded. It is a place to "see and be seen" but after all of the experiences tied together I'm good with not being seen there anymore. I had really looked forward to spending a date night, birthday, special occasion etc night at the W at some point. The location is fabulous. But I'll save my money and re-visit one of the many hotel options downtown Austin has to offer. read more

I stayed at the Westin for 2 nights and did not want to leave. I was greeted with champagne at check in and even got an upgrade to a great room on the 14th floor. The pool and view from our room were a few of the many highlights. I would recommend this hotel for a couples getaway or girls weekend. read more

From the moment we walked in the customer service has been phenomenal! Clean hotel, fresh bedding, clean bathroom and great smell overall.

We got a great rate online, so we were excited to upgrade our usual hotel experience at the W. I've never stayed before. Immediately, I was impressed by the elegant and neat-O surroundings. However the W Hotel in Austin contrived against us to prevent sleeping and that is just plain unacceptable. Complaints: 1.) The first night a very loud, metallic, clanging noise echoed out of our A.C. vent at least once an hour, all night. Don't stay in room 1222. We woke up every time making the next day t-i-r-e-d. They were cool about moving us to a new room. 2.) The house keeping, or "talent" as they refer to hotel staff, wake you up early and are persistent. The first morning it was 10 Am (which is early after a long night of clangey wake-ups), the second morning it was at 8:15 and then again at 8:40 (which is early after a night of drinking on vacation). 3.) When we decided to rise early after rude awakenings there was NO hot water in the shower. Like I said, we got a good rate, but if I hadn't we would have been extremely angry. read more

Was at the the W hotel for work meeting recently and being my first time in a W hotel I was pleasantly surprised. I had heard it was nice - but am fairly critical of 'nice hotels'. When you walk in you are immediately greeted and offered assistance - a major plus, the staff was attentive and friendly. The interior is modern, clean lines and trendy but beautiful in my opinion. The conference room we had we very convenient and well stocked. NOTE: I have yet to STAY in a room here - so I can only base my review off of the staff and meetings rooms which were well above par. Traveled from Dallas to have a staycation with my boyfriend while visiting friends. I made my reservation Wednesday online and called Thursday at 5:44pm to request and early check in and late check out for the weekend reservation. I spoke to a lovely young lady ( wish I remembered her name - the star is for her). She was very pleasant. She informed me that they are booked on Saturday and couldn't confirm the early check in but she did confirm my late check out for Monday. She was very apologetic about the being booked but I told her I completely understand. Service like hers is why I like the W. The W hotel stands out above the rest when it comes to customer service. I have stayed at the W hotel in Amsterdam , Atlanta , and multiple times in Dallas. The service fell short when I tried to get assistance with the WiFi that was not working. I called the front desk and spoke with Greyson. I first wanted to confirm my late check out before I logged on and started working ( yes, unfortunately I did have a some work to do while on my staycation ). I was informed that because they are fully booked they cannot do a late check-out. I then informed him that it was confirmed prior to me checking in. I called before I came in to make sure. The representative then went into a full explanation that the lady I spoke to may have provided info. that was inaccurate and that "puts them in a pickle often" . He informed me that I may have called reservations which they can not make those kind of promises. The number I called was 512-542-3600. I explained to the rep that as I understand I may have called reservation but the lady found my reservation and confirmed my late checkout. Greyson continued to explain she was not capable of granting that type of request. At this point I felt the best thing to do was grant a request that was guaranteed by a W hotel employee. Greyson felt the exact opposite. After explaining the reasoning why I requested late checkout( because I had work to complete) he finally inquired how late would I like to stay. I requested 2pm. He informed me late checkout is NEVER 2pm. He can do 12:30 or 1. I stated 1pm was great. After our long convo about why I shouldn't get what was confirmed. I let him know the internet was out. He provided the WiFi name I should look for and try again. I did and still nothing. I called back and he stated he would send someone up. After waiting over an hour I decided to leave and head to a friends home to complete my work which was a huge inconvenience considering I planned to finish my work enjoy the remainder of my stay. That was cut short. This was not an experience I normally receive from the W hotel . I was very disappointed! read more

On the weekends they have a live DJ. It gets pretty packed after 11. Dobt expect to sit down on the lounge sofas if your friends didn't save you a seat or if you didn't get there early enough. I had the truffle fries they were exactly like the ones from hopdoddy. The beef sliders were pretty good. I want to eventually go to the pool party but it's not open to the public on Saturdays or that's what I was told by the bouncers they have at the entrance. read more

They have something called a "cozy room" that they'll put you in without telling you that's super small and has only a queen bed. Have never had a hotel charge for a two bed room instead of 1. They used to have great service idk what changed this year but I'd recommend another hotel. read more

By far one of the most accommodating hotels I have ever been to. Checked into the hotel and received 2 glasses of champagne which was amazing after our 3 hour drive. We knew the W was a pet friendly hotel but I had no idea just how great they would be to my dog. We received a Barkbox upon arrival filled with toys, treats, and other goodies...they asked us if we needed a dog bed, water bowl etc...plus all of the hotel staff was extremely friendly towards my pup. The room was clean, bliss bathroom products (amazing!), and you can't beat the location. Concierge was helpful in our pet-friendly brunch search, bar staff was awesome as well. I am a huge fan and I don't think I will want to stay anywhere else when I come back to Austin :)! read more

Very cool, modern hip hotel. Very functional, clean and comfortable rooms. Spa is dirty, had no towels, no attendant in Men's locker area and therapist don't really have that much in the way of skills. My wife and I were both disappointed. Room service was a fail 3 mornings in a row. The either forgot to come, were late and every day got the menu wrong. I highly recommend the hotel but don't bother with the spa or room service. Finally made it to the W bar for happy hour. It's true.. decor is nice and comfy as to be expected from the W. However - the service was rather slow, the food nibbles [charcuterie & cheese plates] were uneventful and the waitress didn't know about what was on our plate - she had to get someone from the kitchen.. and expensive for what it is - I know - also to be expected but worth a mention the martinis were also average. Much better at Clive. and the people watching? lots of jeans/khakis with sports coats - enough said..OH and at least 1 person with loafers and no socks.. tho I'm a bit concerned this may be a resurgence of a bad trend. read more

My 5 star rating is tempered by the fact that I received a massive discount off list price, making this hotel actually affordable for me for the night. I understand it is uncouth to say what you get your rate for, but suffice to say it was well over 67% off advertised rates for the same day. If this hotel were at "rack rate", you can knock off as many as three stars from my review. Valet Parking was available and convenient. You can also park around the corner for a daily rate in downtown Austin and avoid the fees. In this instance I actually Ubered as I knew drinking may be on the agenda. Definitely a swank entry that does not fit in Old Austin... but Austin, the times they are a-changin'. Plenty of full length hipster beards were in sight and the employees all seemed to be much "edgier" than the Starwood Westin alternative closer to the Capitol. Room was spacious and very clean, wifi was free, and the floor I was on was high enough to block out the world for my evening. I will absolutely stay there again if the rate dips into "splurge" range again, but if it is a rack rate price... won't be paying as it would be 3x for the night to be that close to hipsters. read more

I had great service at The W. The hotel is very trendy and clean with nice amenities. Free coffee bar in the Living Room each morning, a good workout room, and the best wet bar/outdoor patio area. The pool was never overcrowded (late February visit) and the surrounding bar area has great seating in the sun or shade. Spent a lot of time up there reading and sipping wine. All of the employees at The W were very friendly and accommodating. Good location too because it's close to just about everything including bars, restaurants, and the park. The one downside was that the walls are really thin so I could hear my neighbors' every movement and the doors shut really loudly, which kinda sucked at 2am when you're trying to sleep. read more

Went for the Cochon 555 Heritage event which was an incredible collection of food and drinks with the W Austin as the venue. Overall it is hard to judge the hotel but I would have to say it was slightly unimpressive. Compared to some of the other W hotels I have been to in Boston and New York the W in Austin seems uninspiring by contrast. The location is perfect for exploring downtown- right by Starbucks and Joe's coffee, and staff is nice at desk/Bell desk. The pool area is lovely but small and a nice place to lunch by the pool and rent a cabana (the food is not so good, but the servers were sweet). The hotel concierge was friendly and incredibly helpful in calling for last minute reservations for us and providing us with a extensive list of personalized suggestions. The maid service left a bit to be desired- our room was not cleaned at all one day, and the bottle of wine/glasses we shared on our first day were still sitting there and were never removed during our 4 day stay. read more

The W Austin was an extremely trendy hotel. Lots of music in the lobby and a very active lounge downstairs. I would say this hotel is marketed toward a younger, hip audience. The rooms were very spacious. Personally I was in single King room, and part of the trendy atmosphere means there is no door to the bathroom. This could be quite problematic if you are planning on having guests over while getting ready for the evening (unless your all very close that is). I am unaware of the room layout in a double. Outside the hotel, there are several options for food and nightlife within a very close walking distance. I would not mind staying in this hotel again in the future, and I would recommend it to anyone young at heart in the area. read more

Seriously, my only gripe/complaint about our stay, no coffee in the room or in the lobby. With the price of the room, that should be a given. On to the real review.... Valet/Arrival: We arrived to find a bit of car chaos at the valet area, yet we were greeted promptly by valet, keys passed off quickly, luggage out of car. All excellent. Kudos to the staff in valet. We rented a stinker of a car and it pooped out a few times, two apparently at the valet and parking area. After being stuck the first time while out on a day trip we spent an hour waiting for a jump. We found out the next day the rental car had to also be jumped by the hotel valet staff twice. Thank you valet staff for helping us out. Check In: Quick and easy, friendly person at check in. Bellman: Right on it, got our things up quickly and brought us an extra rack for our luggage. Answered all our questions even though the hotel was quite busy. Bath products: Bliss, loved them! F&B: Unpacked, thirsty and hungry, where to go? We headed to the lounge area, which was a bit confusing at first but we found a nice area inside where a DJ was spinning some wonderful tunes. I think it was still happy hour and we partook of appetizers and drinks for dinner. Hey, it's vacation. All were good and great service. We also appreciated the bubbly and strawberries in our room at arrival, thank you! Concierge: He was great, can't remember his name (wore glasses). He was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Always busy but took the time with each guest to answer questions. Noise: Looked like lots of special events at the hotel (weddings, etc) but soundproofing in the rooms, excellent. So quiet, easy to get a good night's sleep. Housekeeping/room upkeep: They were great. I called each morning when we were headed out and asked to have room made up while we were out. No problem. Done as requested. A few things in the room needed a touch up here and there. Next time I will probably request no snack tray in the room for more counter space. I did appreciate the baskets in the room to store things during our stay. Wifi: Fast. Also appreciated the bedside contraption that had every charger one could think of. No need to pull out cords and chargers this trip. Spa/Pool: Wanted to hit the spa but we were so busy during our first visit to Austin. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate when our busy vacation schedule opened up the day before leaving for going to the pool. No pool time for us unless we wanted to dress for a day at the beach in Washington State (coat, sweater, scarf). Just had to add that everyone we encountered at this hotel made for a great stay. We had so much fun in Austin we will definitely be going back, and plan to stay at the W Austin. Just hope to see coffee in the lobby during our next stay. read more

We hung out at the beautiful pool! And our bellman Dwayne was the friendliest and most help bellman ever! He filled up our ice chest and our ice bucket and told us all about the hotel and our room. He was there the next morning and attended to us as he loaded our car with his up attitude and friendly smile! Will definetly go back! read more
