I went here to meet some friends for a light dinner and some drinks on a Friday night. First of all the decor is modern and hip. It's a lounge with a restaurant that has a pretty good wine selection. I sampled the fancy cheese board that had some great flavors. I also had the scallops which were delicious. When we left the lounge was jumping. There was a DJ spinning some house music and the feeling of the place was classy and light. I'll definitely hit this spot up again on a Friday just for the lounge. read more

We could not imagine the W Austin not falling under this category . Though beauty and elegance could not be argued by anyone, who has visited this facility. For this price I was expecting a little more. The room was very small and uncomfortable. The bed had a mat under the sheets that would not stay in place so we kept trying to fix that all night. The AC would not cool the room like you would expect. We ran it constantly ant it barely made it to 70. The last annoying thing was the tiny bathtub "Japaneese soaking tub". I understand space in Austin is limited but this tub proves everything is NOT always bigger in Texas. read more

We recently stayed the night at the W for a staycation. We've been to the W bar multiple times and this was second time to stay there. Pro's -Great spa, spa staff is friendly, nice amenities, it's also perfect for a girls trip, we recently did this and had a whole room to ourselves with complementary champagne and we were able to have food delivered. -The rooms are nice and have a good view -As mentioned above, they have a good bar scene with a unique drink selection. Con's -The customer service was not the best, specifically room service. I called no less than 6 times, I got disconnected multiple times and they would never remember me and I'd have to repeat my order. Then they forgot a dish and brought a dish I never ordered. I, again, had to make 3 or so phone calls to get it fixed. -A small thing, but only one side of the bed had a plug, so the person on the other side couldn't charge a phone overnight on the dresser next to them (a pet peeve of mine). read more

Annoyingly dark. You can't see anything. The staff is mostly attentive, but get wrapped up in server-talk. I waited a good six or eight minutes to even give my order. It was not busy at 5:15 pm. Grey Goose and a Maker's Mark was $17 dollars - little high. We drank out on the patio. Nice tables. Too many people asking us if we were "OK?" Maybe it was a shift change, but it was disruptive to the conversation. I mean 6 to 8 times in 15 minutes with different people each time. Maybe it's just new staff? Drinks were high quality. Ambience at the bar was dreary and a bit scary - too much red. Need more light. Also, there are these walls of vinyl records and a set of turntables in the bar area. Do not be fooled. They are not to be mixed. The LPs are just decoration - a monumental waste in my opinion - and the turn tables are not for playing the 1,000 pus titles they have on the shelves. WTF? It makes it a vinyl graveyard. For no reason. Not cool. read more

The W has a reputation. For some reason people in Austin have given a trendy reputation. Don't fall for it. The staff are AWFUL. The prices are ridiculous. I have never hated a place more. I just spent $7000 over the weekend at this place. I literally wish I would have stayed at a Motel 6. I hope people wake up and realize this place is a rip off and the management has allowed their staff to start treating people here like dirt. read more

We stayed 2 days and 1 night...and felt like VIP's the whole time...the first class staff made sure of that, knowing our name, but not in a creepy way. + the spa was cozy & peaceful + the work out facilities was first class..YOU gotta see the art in there! + we drank in every bar the (secret bar won't be a secret for long"! + i usually take my own pillow...NO NEED..not here...we slept like babies! + the food was obnoxiously yummy...with stunning presentation! Just stayed the past couple of nights here. Overall, a good experience. Close to lots of good restaurants, shops, bars, cafe, etc. Very pretty inside and very attentive service. A little pretentious and trying too hard, but in a funny, endearing way. Good people watching. I wasn't a fan of the bathroom as there was no bathtub and no door! Without a door the bathroom is pretty chilly when you step out of your steamy shower! Also, compared to the rest of the place, I felt like the shower head should have been fancier. That may sound silly, but it seemed worthy of a multi-jet shower head instead of a basic style you'd find in a Motel 6. I'd definitely recommend this hotel to someone, but the next time I go to Austin I will stay somewhere else - just for variety. read more

Not worth the price. Compared to other upscale hotels I've stayed that this one is very mediocre. Service is unhelpful, nobody offered to help with our luggage during check in, the rooms were ok, no coffee machine, asked for a plug adaptor and never got one. No free wifi, they made a mistake on our bill and didn't even apologize. You always feel unwelcome when going through the lobby. Would not recommend to anyone. read more

Horrible! We started off at the W for bachelorette party! Spa day to kick started it! Massage was okay, so loud outside of the door it wasn't relaxing. We were supposed to have a cabana by the pool with a cheese plate, it never happen! The W staff forgot to set that up for us. We had to find staff to get a locker to put our belongings. We had to find staff to get us a drink. Couple of the ladies didn't get their nails done because One a staff member called out, two staff friend cut in line and took someone appointment time. Stayed at W for a staycation with friend from CA, and they upgraded us to a suite! No extra charge, but it might be because we have a lot of Starwood points...either way we got to enjoy a better view! The hotel guest pool was being renovated at the time so I got to spend some time in the residential pool, which was lavish yet more homie feeling and less Miami beach feeling...though the hotel guest pool has a bar that's RIGHT there. read more

My husband surprised me with a weekend getaway. We got an upgrade on the room, which was a nice surprise. Accomodations were stunning and very luxurious. I did not enjoy the hallway leading to our room, which was not warm or inviting, verging on creepy (nothing on the walls, just a deep red color). I've watched too many scary movies I guess. Fantastic Hotel. Fantastic Service. This specific W hotel lives up to its "Whatever, Whenever" motto. Amazing concierge. They arranged many reservations and pick ups for us. We could even call while we were out to have them arrange transportation for us. Amazing staff. Wonderful Valet. The Acura service team were very sweet and went out of their way to accomodate our group. The rooms were spacious. W hotels (for stadard rooms at least) tend to normally not be set up very woman-friendly. (Not much closet space, not many drawers, not more than one mirror), bathroom opening up directly into room. This specific hotel's rooms: have a large entry, separate bathroom area, two mirror (although both in the bathroom area). However, the bathroom area does not have a door-- but it's still it's on separate area. The pool is great. A bit of a scene-- but still calm, beautiful, bright, with fresh spa water, a full bar, and clean bathrooms. The gym is FANTASTIC-- stacked weights, balls, new machines, bright, a huge windows. Beautiful spa/ lockerroom with a lounge. The bar scene at night is happening. I'm a chick from LA writing this, and nexty to Roial (a close by bar), this was probably the best bar scene in Austin. The security was also very nice. I can't say enough good things about this one specific property. It's also in a fantastic area (Lots of restaurants near by and across the street. Unfortunately, I did not get to eat at the restaurant. All in all, I had a positive experience. The one time someone was rude it was a bartender and a waitress (maybe manager?) who got upset tht we took fruit from the bar and asked if they should charge it to our roomm. However, I think this was an isolated situatio specific to those unhappy employees. This totally made up for my negative experience at ther W Scottsdale. read more

The entire scene is sorta touristy but if youre already staying at hotel its a good place to grab a drink. Overall I wouldnt go there in purpose is what Im saying as Austin has so many better non chain hotel var scenes. I might say have a drink and take a stroll down the street. Okay. So let me start out by saying that the W Austin has the best customer service around. Some of the best hotel service I've ever experienced, and that's saying quite a bit. The welcome area and lounge area are very well decorated with nouveau and eclectic decorum that is on the classy side of fun. Stamped metal, brushed aluminum, beautiful hardwood, marble and glass with lots of natural light and mood lighting give a polished look to accompany the fantastic customer focused personnel. Security is also top-notch with key coded elevators and doors and multiple personnel manning doors to the front and the lounge area where in the evenings a serious party may erupt at any time with dance music and lights. The room was good. Several good amenities, and the beds were comfortable. The view was crappy, but, I'm sure if we would've been on one of the higher floors it would've been pretty cool. The window shades didn't pull all the way closed so if we would've wanted to sleep in, that would've been a problem. They did not pass my toilet paper test with standard issue John Wayne toilet paper. They did wrap the extra roll in a woven pouch that was kind of cool, but come on guys, just a few cents extra would've meant that you really cared. The decorum on the floors is very institutional and outdated. It appears as if they are trying to be intentionally mod, but instead come off a little bit cheesy. The artwork in the room was also a little strange, looking like they took pictures of a homeless guy in a junkyard and then through it in a frame. Didn't really get it. Location, location, location. That's what this place is all about. It is in an absolutely perfect location. You are close to everything. Walking distance to 4th Street, and Congress shops and restaurants. Very close to the capitol, UT, Barton Springs and tons of shopping and eating destinations. So, if you stay at the W Austin, use the concierge and the valet. Talk to the people, they are worth it. Enjoy your proximity to everything. But, I've received better in room accommodations and amenities at an Embassy Suites. read more

First, I bought this room on Hotwire for a very good price. I was nervous since our party was 2 adults and a 9 and 11 year old. It could not have been better. While the hotel is certainly not built for kids, we had no negative issues. The room was clean. The beds were GREAT. The staff was friendly and always helpful. The valets were always quick with our car which was nice, since it was 100 degrees plus! The room itself is modern and plenty spacious for the 4 of us. The only odd part for a family, is the lack of a door into the bathroom causing the glass enclosed shower to be open and visible. It was just something we had to work around as a family. I am not sure where the negative reviews come from, but our experience was great. read more

My friends and I stayed here over the weekend of 9/28 and we had a mixed experience. The location was great and the staff was friendly until we had a few issues. I completely agree with previous review that the room are not practically set up. We had the bathroom set-up where the sink and shower were in the open room with no door and the commode was in the bank with a wonky sliding door. That bring us to Issue #1. The door slid off the track the first day we were there. Maintenace came up to fix it but the repair did not hold. We asked for someone to come up again and that never happened. Housekeeping: We had the "green package" which we expected meant that linens and towels would not been changed out, etc. Apparently what it actualy means is that housekeeping will not visit your room unless you ask. I thought they would at least come in to empty the trash and replenish the toliet paper and perhaps make the beds. We had to convince the front desk of this and one person we spoke to implied we would have to pay extra..really W hotel? for a roll of toliet paper? Parking is $29 a night? Luckily the valet guys were very sweet and suggested cheaper, alternate parking. Like right across the street for half the price. read more

Chic and fun hotel, staff is great. My late night burger via room service was delicious. I would have given it 5 stars if it wasn't for one rude bartender during happy hour. She refused my DL because it expired earlier this year, which I can understand, but then she did not want to take my permanent resident card. For non-US citizens this is a valid and official form of identification. For a hotel that attracts guests from all over the world, I would expect their staff to be a bit more tactful and realize that not everyone in Austin, TX, or the US is from here and will have a US drivers license. Maybe she was having a bad day? Anyhow, she called her manager and he took care of it. I got my drink and all was well in my world. *I'm 31 BTW. P.S. The shower was great and I loved all the mirrors in my room, that gets 6 stars! read more

Not a real big fan. I liked the atmosphere and the place was decorated high class, but for price, not worth it in my opinion. The room was tiny. Bed was comfortable. Amenities were limited but that maybe because of downtown location. Biggest thing that made me laugh was no coffeemaker in the room. I like my hot drink first thing when I wake up. I called down inquiring and they sent one up, but added a $10 fee. Seriously, after paying so much for the room. I will not recommend it to my friends when there are so many other great places to stay in downtown Austin (and they do not charge me for a coffeemaker, LOL). read more

The rooms are nice. It's expensive. My one big complaint is that the TVs in the rooms do not have MSNBC. I have to guess this is a political statement, because Fox News and CNN are available. MSNBC is one of the 3 largest cable news stations in the USA. So really.... unless you're making a political statement, you should have MSNBC in your line-up. read more
