We were so bummed when Isacson closed in the city, but I came across this place and couldn't be happier when I walked in a found a fantastic fish market. The people there are so friendly and very clean. The selection of seafood is amazing! We tried the salmon, bronzing, red snapper and headless shrimp. All very tasty! I really Missed Issacson and Stein when they closed, I kind of wandered in the wilderness looking for a new fish store, I have had dalliances with Whole foods and Dirks but never really felt any sense of commitment. I recently discovered Wabash and my wandering days are over, I am totally in a monogamous relationship. This place has it all in the cleanest store I have ever seen, the seafood is beautiful and fresh, all of this with some of the friendliest and most helpful staff! Life is good again read more

It doesn't get any better... Jim the manager ran the Eataly fish counter. Not cheap, yet very high quality at reasonable prices. Rare I've seen better quality fish. Some of the fish is trophy quality. They take pride in what they do. Today I asked for Skate wing and Jim said he wouldn't sell it to me. He felt it wasn't the freshest. I smelled it and seemed fine. His fish cutter thought it wasn't fresh and Jim advised the same. Since Issac and Stein closed this is the spot. It doesn't have the raw wholesale put the boots on like Issac and Stein. Little more upscale - great service and quality with some interesting variety. Some down the middle basics and some exotic items they have like alligator etc. If you appreciate quality you'll be a loyal customer. read more

Have to order the day before since covid really wrecked their business which sucks. Give these guys some business! We need fish mongers to remain in the city. I ordered some Ora king salmon for Christmas Eve and just finished eating it and had to write a review. It was amazing. Unquestionably the best salmon I have ever purchased and no doubt served at some of best restaurants in the city. We planned to pan fry it but it looked so immaculate we sliced a bit off to try as sushi and it was so good we ended up eating 2/3rds of it as sushi. Will def be back to get this salmon and try out their other offerings. read more

I'm obsessed. So much gorgeous, fresh fish and excellent customer service! Selection includes salmon, snapper, skate, shrimp, oysters, mussels, trout, pike, tilapia, lobster, alligator meat, frog legs, etc., etc. Seriously so many options and at reasonable prices! Sandra helped me sort my life out, weighed, cut and labeled my choices according to my preferences. They offer free lemons to support your fish buys and also have an assortment of frozen and dry goods (including fun spices and salts) as well as a couple of awesome cookbooks. There is limited parking in front but some street parking to compensate. Avoid the gravel lot on the side though as they'll tow you (per the helpful note on the front door). Gruff and unfriendly. I used to buy quite a bit from Wabash, but it's gone downhill fast. The last order I placed was never fulfilled. They didn't call or email or anything. When I called to check on the order, they said someone else at the company probably got the order but that person doesn't work there anymore read more

An excellent place to hit when you're looking for more exotic seafood than you can find at the grocery. Because it's basically a restaurant seafood supplier, it isn't your typical fish shop. You walk into an office, stand next to accounts receivable and ask someone for whatever you're looking for. They'll call into the back and in a couple minutes you'll have what you need, cash only! My experience has always been great prices and super fresh seafood. I bought skate wing there and it was filleted beautifully (not a task I was looking forward to). read more

I love Wabash. They have a wide variety of freshwater and ocean catches. The menu can vary based on availabilty and the seasons of the seafood. Prices aren't too bad for good fresh fish. Some things will be surprisingly cheap, and some will be expensive. The retail shop keeps short hours. It's best to call and see what's available. Online menus aren't always accurate. read more

This may be the best way to get the freshest seafood in Chicago. This is restaurant quality seafood at cheaper prices than an organic or standard grocery store. It's so fresh. I highly recommend the red snapper, swordfish, poke grade tuna and oro salmon. It's all good. Sometimes they do get slammed and there may be a wait as they are having people in the back pull clams and oysters or filet fresh fish for you, but that's the best part of this - they are pulling fish from their wholesale shipments that just came in. If it's not out in the retail area, then it's generally in the back as the majority of their business is wholesale. I feel lucky to have found this place. Fantastic product at extraordinarily good prices. There's certainly no other fish market (and certainly no supermarket, even the expensive high-end ones) that can touch this place on quality. Seems like the vast majority of the fish are filleted that very morning, or sometimes even to order. And you're getting near-wholesale level prices. They also carry a lot of stuff that's pretty hard to find in Chicago, like razor clams and rock shrimp. There's not a seafood store I know if in the area that's even in the same league as this place. I was extremely disappointed when Isaacson & Stein closed, but this place is even better. Same great prices, but significantly better product (not that I&S was bad, it was good, it's just that the stuff here is fab), and a much more, er, sanitary environment. read more

I was excited to see a new seafood place in the west loop area. It's a shame that all the seafood markets have been sold to developers. I thought this new place would fill my needs. The wabash seafood place is a shoebox sized storefront. I went on a Saturday huge line of people. I thought the seafood was a bit expensive. The service was to slow and lay back with no sense of urgency. I prefer a market that you can pick your product have it weighed, a price tag put on, and have it rung up at the register. That would keep things flowing with efficiency. Unfortunately I feel they are not ready to handle people traffic, I will not be returning anytime soon. I should not have to spend an hour and thirty on a better part of Saturday. read more

This is such a gem! The fish was so fresh and so delicious! They have other fish not even in the display that they will go and cut for you. Everything is labeled if it is Farm raised or wild and they will tell you everything about each fish. The employees provide excellent service and are very helpful. They even let my daughter go back and see the lobsters and touch them too! We will be back often and encourage everyone else to stop and enjoy some of the best fish with reasonable prices! read more

This place is fantastic! They probably have whatever you are looking for and it's going to be fresh and delicious. I'm willing to bet that, if they don't have it, you're not going to find it anywhere else. Every time I visit, there are delivery trucks bringing in something fresh. The prices are reasonable, they pack your purchase in ice if you want, and then tell you to grab complimentary lemons on your way out. What makes the whole trip even better is the great staff. There is always someone (I assume one of the owners) to answer any questions you have and the people behind the counter are friendly and knowledgeable too.
