I'm a regular of strings ramen going about Chicago looking for my favorite ramen. Heard a lot about Wabi Sabi. I ordered the Spicy Tonkatsu and it was absolutely delicious. The broth was a had a good amount of richness along with a good amount of fat. The Spicy Tonkatsu had the perfect amount of spice for my taste (I'm coughing and sniffing as I write this). Egg was cooked well though lacked the same richness as some other shops (also apparent by the tan of the egg white). Chashu was tender and fatty. The only complaint I really have was the noodles. A bit too tender and juicy for me when I prefer firmer more snappy noodles. Place Strings noodles in this broth and it'll be perfect to me but.. to each their own. read more

Great little place! My husband and I split the Creamy Shrimp Maki under the signature maki on their very cute/modern looking menu. I am new to sushi, so I wasn't really sure what to expect, and I was really delighted at how delicious it was. The plate was decorated using various sauces with beautiful flowers, and everything was fresh and tasty. I also had the spicy garlic ramen which was just about as spicy as I can handle (with a broth anyway), but seasoned very very well. My husband had the curry ramen, and he said it was maybe the best he's had in a while. Overall, the freshness was obvious, the seasoning was on point, everything was delicious, and the restaurant was cute and very clean. My favorite place to get sushi! My boyfriend also loves the ramen soup and I have yet to try that. My family and I love to order at least 8 orders of the shrimp tempura roll and it's amazing. I would definitely recommend this place. I think the only downside would be parking since it is pay to park, but definitely worth it! Most people just order take out, which is what my family and I do majority of the time. I also live in Albany Park so it's walking distance, which is a plus for me. Great amazing service as well. The place is exceedingly tiny and fills up fast. Still service is quick and friendly, and consistently good. The unagi nigiri was among the better I've tasted in Chicago, Plus they grill it fresh to order and the rich charcoal smell of burning eelskin should not be missed. The White Dragon Maki tasted sort of off and was kind of dry even under the sauces drizzled on it, leaving an unpleasant aftertaste in my mouth afterward. The gyoza were pretty good, not house-made, standard frozen-then-fried fare. Sadly, my quest for decent tonkotsu ramen continues. This is yet another establishment that serves weak, oily, shiro miso-tasting broth billed as tonkotsu. I have been craving some real ramen since I left Japan, but all the ramen spots in Chicago seem to be on Milwaukee, and it's a pain to find parking and wait in line. I found Wabi Sabi while browsing Ramen on Yelp, and thought I'd give it a try. The inside is small, but clean and beautifully decorated. I had the fried gyoza as well as the spicy black garlic ramen. The gyoza were perfectly fried, and the filling was delicious. The ramen was ok. It actually was not that spicy, and while the broth was good I had to add a little soy sauce to make it a little more flavorful, and I'm not one of those people who adds salt to everything. There also wasn't much garlic flavor in the broth itself. The pork belly inside the ramen was fantastic, tender, and not overly fatty. There was a spicy tonkatsu ramen on the menu and the waiter said that was REALLY spicy, but next time I come back I think I'm going to give that one a try, as well as checking out some of the sushi offerings. I love this place so much. Really. The spicy garlic miso ramen is one of my favorites. The broth is so flavorful and the noodles are delicious. Also, the portion size is great for the price. One of my other favorites is the cha-shu! The pork is so flavorful! Last time I was here we also tried the pork baos which are delicious as well, maybe they could use a little extra crunch besides the cilantro but either way they're good! Good food at an excellent price. Sometimes the service is a little slow, even when there's not a lot of people in the restaurant.

First of all, if you want a greasy bowl of flavorless ramen, this is the place to go! The noodles are literally the noodles out of packaged ramen. The flavor is just not there at all compared to other ramen places I've been. Also, it was INSANELY spicy, currently paying for it. I love spicy foods and have a pretty high tolerance, but holy balls with that a bowl of fire! The reason this is getting 2 stars instead of 1 is because the service was decent and friendly, and we had the pot stickers as an appetizer and they were delicious. But all in all, very disappointed with the ramen and probably won't be returning to this restaurant. read more

This place became a go-to for me as it was close by to where I lived. My roommates and have had their ramen multiple times and they're consistent with how they make it. Their rolls are fresh and nicely made but for some reason the thing I always get is the snow ball. I would recommend this place if you're in the area and craving sushi, otherwise nothing really worth going out of your way for. read more

This is a pleasant surprise! Solid black garlic ramen (chasu, bamboo shoots, black fungus, broth and egg are all top notch, noodle is genetic but given the price it's good enough). Went in with my friend and got the Garlic Ramen. It was friggin delicious! the only thing I didn't like was the little white thingy they put in it. My friend got the Spicy one and couldn't eat it (she was hung over). She tried to eat it the next day and it tasted fishy, but it wasn't a fish ramen so I'm not sure why. If you're eating, eat it all in one shot!!!! The prices are on point. Some Ramen places charge too much and charge for adding stuff. The ramen on this menu are packed with plenty of tasty items! Very disappointing. I went in for dine in. And it was hardly any type of service whatsoever. It seemed that they were more preoccupied with takeout orders and phone orders as they totally ignored their customers while they were in the restaurant. The food was just somewhat OK but definitely subpar. The rice seemed a little stale the Ramen soup was nothing to write home about. Very bland nothing special about it. I've been meaning to check out Wabi Sabi for a while now and decided that New Year's Day was the day. You see, I am a New Year's baby and this birthday girl wanted some ramen. I won't lie, Wabi Sabi was not my first choice. I wanted to go to Wasabi or Blowfish but alas... they were closed for the holiday. My sister and I strolled on over and ordered two bowls of the black garlic ramen along with some crab rangoon (per my sister's request) and pork bao buns. We enjoyed the appetizers and happily scarfed those down. We also enjoyed our cold tea beverages. The ramen? It was ok. The pork was really delicious actually and all the accoutrements were there, but the broth was just sort of bland to me. Also, my broth turned this wicked violet color, which I assume is from the black garlic. The table next to me also ordered up the black garlic ramen and had similar commentary. The broth wasn't horrible, it just wasn't as flavorful or bodied as I would have liked it to be. The place itself is really cute. Our service was friendly and attentive. We appreciated the music being played. We saw a lot of sushi rolls being ordered so that might be something to consider for next time. Will there be a next time? Yes. I will give Wabi Sabi another go. I would even try the ramen again, just not the black garlic ramen. If you need a sushi or ramen fix... I think Wabi Sabi would fit the bill. read more

I was intrigued when I saw a review for this place on everyblock. I convinced my husband to go one weeknight just to check it out. I hadn't been by it (other than driving in the car when I noticed the location) so I didn't know what to expect. I was really glad/surprised to see a restaurant that put some effort into the general decor and ambiance. (Not to say that NONE do, but its not the rule in this neighborhood). Sometimes we're looking for a place to take friends or guests, and as much as we can love the dives or casual places you're sometimes just looking for something different. We're vegetarians so we can't really rate the fish. But everything we did have was really good. Edamame was normal (this ALWAYS tastes the same), and then a few of the vegetarian rolls. The presentation was nice, the waitstaff was attentive (without hovering) and friendly. Overall I was really pleasantly surprised. They don't have a whole ton of vegetarian options so we won't be able to go too often without getting burnt out, but its a really nice option to have. (HEY Wabi Sabi, so do you see me?? Don't forget us vegetarians! Maybe an entree, or a few more "interesting" vegetarian rolls that aren't just veggies rolled up. Think fun sauces or additions.) read more

Been eating at this place for a while. Good food, except our last time ordering takeout here was not great. We ordered Tempura Udon and Salmon Roe and was given Tonkatsu Ramen and Salmon Roll. When we called in the error, the person who answered tried to justify the mistake instead of acknowledging it and resolving the issue. I order from Wabi Sabi at least once a week. I drive there on my longer lunch breaks or I have them deliver to me. The lunch special is a great deal and they don't skimp out on you even though its a cheaper price. I suggest the spicy salmon. One downside is I always have to call them to order the lunch special because Yelp online ordering has a minimum of $15 for delivery. The price of the lunch special is 12.95. Also, when ordering on Yelp I cannot order 3 spicy salmons I have to order three different rolls for the lunch special. read more

Tonkotsu Ramen: Excellent ramen. The pork was so tender. Broth was super tasty. Egg was on point. I'm so excited to have good ramen in Albany Park! I've loved ramen long before it became a trend, but the great thing about this trend is the variety of places that I can venture to. Stopped in Wabi Sabi due to a ramen craving and ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen and Negi Saba Roll (Mackarel, Scallions & Lemon Juice). I tend to base my opinions of ramen on Tonkatsu, which is my favorite type of broth. The ingredients were fresh and flavorful, and the presentation was beautiful. The pork belly could have been seared a little more for more flavor, but the noodles were great; chewy and springy like they're supposed to be. I was a little disappointed in the broth though. Although it was the perfect creamy color and texture, it was pretty bland. The Negi Saba roll, however, was stupendous! Perfect ratio of rice to fish, balanced flavors and the mackerel was incredibly fresh and clean. Will definitely get this again. The service was attentive but void of personality but the restaurant is clean & modern and food definitely exceeds the norm. Definitely would recommend but I think I'll try the Black Garlic Ramen next time. read more

I'm going to make this short and sweet. The sushi is borderline awful. I eat a lot of sushi and been all over the city and this was grocery store quality. As someone mentioned below it's on par with Jewel sushi. I thought that was harsh based on other reviews until I ate the sushi. I did carry out, and walked the 5 minutes home. We ordered a lot, and could barely finish half. I hate to be a downer and I know business owners put a lot of heart and soul in the food, but good sushi really has two main things to focus on: taste and quality of the rice and the quality and taste of the fish. Both were severely lacking. The rice was mushy and flavorless. The fish was poor quality and tasted as such. The ingredients used in the rolls besides the fish tasted stale and offered nothing but to make the rolls more off-putting. I might give this place one more shot and am curious about the Ramen, but disappointed that a place so close to home was not a hit in my house. Also, on another note, and applicable to Wabi Sabi, I'm so tired of seeing 90% of rolls on a menu cater to the taste of American eaters (being an American myself): everything contains something tempura, or cream cheese, drenched in sauce, etc. Some rolls I get, but there's got to be some creativity without all the crazy flavors...I've seen other places do it. Everything was very good! Had the Tongkatsu Ramen and Godzilla roll. I didnt underatand the differences among the Ramen. The ingredients were the same for all but one, so you had to know the differences based solely on the names. Ask, and they will tell which is spicy and salty. Soup was hot and flavorful.
