We found street parking easily right around the corner and lucked out with no wait for a table. It's smaller inside so it can fill up fast. Service was a bit slow, you really had to flag someone down if you needed anything, even to order finally. We all pretty much ordered the deluxe mazeman. Portions were plentiful and the flavors were solid. Not the best I've ever had but it definitely hits the spot. The fried apps were delicious. Overall a decent place to pop into for lunch.

Was visiting UCLA and saw this was nearby. I always love a good mazemen, I think they rebranded from MoguMogu? The menu and taste is pretty much the same as I remember. I was feeling hungry so I got the deluxe, which comes with an extra boiled egg and chashu, wish there was a little bit more going on for the price but it still tasted amazing! I came with my vegetarian friend and he got the vegan mazemen, which looked really good for a vegan dish. Noodles weren't overcooked, flavor wasn't too salty or bland, and I love the amount of chives and green onion they give you. I always love when mazemen places give you a little rice at the end to scoop up all the remaining sauce, sometimes I enjoy it even more than the noodles lol. If you're in the area, would definitely recommend Wadaya!

I had no idea what a mazemen was so when this place popped up on social media I was scrolling on, my curiosity got the best of me! Dragged Bestie with me (we were due for a catch up anyway) and found ourselves here on a random Sunday opening hour. We arrived a few minutes early which was a good thing because we scored one of two of their reserved private spots. It's a small and simple place but well decorated. On one wall are instructions how to properly eat mazemen. That came in pretty handy for me, being a first timer and all! I took time to screen through their menu before coming through and knew I was going to end up with the Kyoto, but deciding on the apps were a little bit challenging. I eyed practically all of them, but practicality got the best of us and ended up with three. IKAGESO: Deep fried squid legs made to order! Battered crispy on the outside and great chew on the inside. Seasoning was perfect, didn't even need the dip. It did add to the taste, ditto adding a splash of lemon juice. Yum! CHICKEN KARAAGE: I've had my share of this from tons of other places. What makes it unique here is the sauce that topped it. There's a bit of a kick to it, but just to add flavor, not for heat. Each bite was crispy on the outside but tender and juicy on the inside. The mayo dip also helped elevate its overall flavor. Yum also! BAO BUNS: One was supposed to be spicy, and the other not so. We asked our server if we can have both not spicy and it was not a problem at all. The buns were so soft and fluffy and held the pork bellies so well. Add with whatever flavor concoction they made to pull all the elements together, and WOW. We almost ordered a second batch! KYOTO MAZEMEN: This bowl was put together so nicely, and it was a delight to look at! I stared at it for a minute since it was so nicely put together. So I followed the instructions down to the tee: took a picture first then took my time to mix it all together. Everything came together so well, and the poached egg added richness to the overall flavor. Noodles were a perfect above-al dente. There was an explosion of flavors with each bite! Halfway through, I added the umami vinegar (as instructed) and true to their word, added even more flavor. Once I was down to my last few bites, they gave a small portion of white rice to mix even more and bring some subtlety at the end. That's not a bad thing AT ALL. Total verdict: awesome first mazemen run! Bestie had a bowl of wonton soup. I got a taste of that and that was good as well. All washed down by yuzu lemonade which was well-blended cool and refreshing. FOOD: 5. SERVICE: 4. Friendly staff and service with a smile! VALUE: 4. PARKING: Private lot, 2 spots allotted for them. Street parking also available. OVERALL: 4.25. Totally worth the drive. Will keep them in mind should I be in the area again. Might go for a regular ramen then.

Fabulous flavor served up in a different format. Noodles taste like ramen, but are thick like udon. Be ready for scallions and garlic with a bit of spicy kick. Sooo good. We have been to the Costa Mesa location many times, LA is commensurate in terms of food quality and service. Not low carb friendly but worth the cheat day!

Really delicious Ramen noodles here! The noodles were so flavorful and fullfilling. All the ingredients blended together so well. Staff working here is very freindly and answers any questions. The Matcha drink was also very good.

Tuesday lunch 12 noon uncrowded. Instant acknowledgement upon entering. A bottle of water was set on the table. By 12:30 pm the tables were filled. They quickly accommodated a party of 6. The food was delivered in a timely manner. Ordered edamame & Vegan Tokyo Mazeman. This was a first time having this latter novelty dish. The assortment of vegetables were visually appealing & intriguing. It came with a side of chili oil which I am a fan of. Initially I thought I put a bit too much chili oil on top. Uh oh, oil slick noodles? Next time I would apply it sparingly. By the time I mixed it all up & ate it, only a small amount of food remained. Just enough towards the bottom. Magically with impeccable timing a bowl filled with a rice ball was brought to the table. Added that inside the bowl. Mixed it up & oh what a very pleasant deconstructed flavor bomb ending.

Off the beaten path treasure! Food: - my goto is the Tokyo! Strong umami flavors throughout and QQ noodle consistency, poached egg adds another note of flavor - Don't forget to ask for the rice at the end to soak up all the juices!

This is the first time I've been here since they renamed the spot and it tastes just as good as when I had it. I ordered the Deluxe Bowl, Chicken Karaage, and Bao Buns and everything was pretty flavorful. Of course, my favorite was the Deluxe Bowl as it was tasty and filling. Service was pretty fast and efficient. Overall, great spot and would go back!

I was in the area so stopped by for their mazemen. It was delicious and tasty and the portions were very big. I struggled to finish the noodle and had to get the rice to go. Price is a little on the high side but makes sense for the quality of food. If you haven't had this style of ramen before, this is a great place to try!

The view from outside Wadaya by Sawtelle on a Friday evening. The place is packed, waiting outside

For those who know me, I have always been a fan of noodles. And ramen. And also mazemen, though mazemen has been a more difficult find for me. I did like the mazemen (in fact, it was my fave thing on the menu) at the now-closed Ninja Ramen in Houston, and wasn't sure where else to go get it. Well, as luck would have it, there is a great place by Sawtelle in the LA area! I was scrolling through Instagram and came across some well-edited videos that were done skillfully enough to really whet my appetite. So I bought into the hype and drove on over there. Parking - street parking. Should be plentiful enough though, the walk isn't bad at all, no matter what. This place definitely has a good rep. I did choose to go on a Friday evening for my introductory meal there, so naturally, the place was packed and completely full, with a sheet outside to sign your name to wait for a table to free up. The Sawtelle location is a bit small, but they make the most of their space to fit as many people as possible, and you can tell the service is experienced in turning the tables over quickly but also politely - as in, they don't force people out, they're just super efficient with it. My first time there, on a busy Friday night, perhaps I waited about 20 minutes? There was just one couple in front of me. Not too bad, in my opinion. So of course I ordered the deluxe mazemen here. I wanted to get the full experience! From their menu, the deluxe has sliced pork charsiu, spicy minced pork, poached egg AND a soft boiled egg, scallions, chives, minced garlic, seaweed, seaweed flakes, and a fish umami. Upon receiving, the server during both times I've dined there has asked if I'm familiar with how to make the magic happen with the mazemen (basically, mix mix mix), but also they have this homemade vinegar at each table that they recommend to add into it. I like this recommendation! And just in case, for reference at the Sawtelle location, they have the instructions drawn up in a fun way on one of the walls inside. It's quite cute. And I did take the recommendations to heart and mixed mixed mixed! Flavor-wise, the fresh sour notes of the vinegar blend well with the sauce for the noodles combined with the seaweed and seaweed flakes. Definitely enough sauce. In fact, Wadaya knows there will be excess sauce by the time the noodles are devoured, so towards the end of the meal, the server will stop by with a small ramekin of rice for you to dump into the remaining sauce, mix around to soak it up, and finish your meal off. And yes this is also part of the instructions on the wall so you aren't surprised by the sudden rice being given. Great way to finish off the meal! I've also tried the spicy homemade pork & shrimp wontons here - also tasty! The freshness is obvious. I'll have to try the soup version at some point, especially in this relatively colder weather during the winter. In essence, I bought into the social media hype and Wadaya did not disappoint. I obviously will be back. This hit on all the notes!

I always drive by Wadaya when I go into the office and after a few months I finally decided to try! I'm so glad I did. My husband and I grabbed lunch and we loved it! We both tried the deluxe mazemen, and shared the karage, and spicy wontons. The karage was super crispy and had a really good sweet sauce on it. The spicy wontons were also super delicious, though I wish they were a bit spicier. The mazemen was definitely the star of the show. It's best described as a "pasta" and you mix all of the ingredients to maximize the flavor. The poached egg on top brings all of the ingredients together similar to a carbonara. It's very unique and tasty. Definitely will be going back to eat my way through the menu!

i loved mogumogu, so i am happy to report that wadaya is just as great!! i haven't been able to find mazemen in LA outside of this place, so i always take people here to try it :) i love the vegan tokyo mazemen, it has my favorite toppings (brussel sprouts, kale, avocado) with ground soy meat. i was worried it wouldn't have the same effect without an egg, but it was still delicious! the noodles are thick and filling, and i love finishing off with some saucy rice. metered parking is available on the street, as its a bit further from the other spots in sawtelle.

All the workers answered my questions and even as the dinner rush came in, I never felt like I was pressured to hurry up. Huge kudos to them for this. There are lots of places to get ramen in Little Tokyo and I have my go to places, but now that so many other ramen places are popping up in the 626, the daunting task of driving to DTLA and finding parking have also factored into my decision to wander out. But as a J-fashion and anime fan, I'm just constantly thrown back into the Little Tokyo vortex. For this recent visit, I remember my friend hyping up the Anaheim Rakkan Ramen, so I thought why not? Came a bit later into the dinner rush, around 6-something PM and was seated immediately as a solo diner on a Friday night. It started to get a bit busier around the time I was finishing up. Seating is a bit tight inside with a couple of tables, counter bar seating, but they do have outdoors seating as well. Food came out efficiently and super piping hot. For my dinner, I got the: 1) Coffee Jelly: -One of my favorite, comforting Japanese desserts. If a bakery has it, I'll order it, and I felt a bit indulgent so I ordered it then. Staff asked if I wanted to have it at the end or just have it come out ASAP. I said ASAP and it was a good palate cleanser between the savory and sweet so I didn't get tired of the flavor. Not a super huge amount of coffee jelly (but makes sense since this is a restaurant and not a to go ordering counter at a bakery), but it was silky and had a good coffee flavor to it. You get a small "shot" of heavy cream milk to mix in and you can control how sweet you want it. Not bad. 2) Ramen Sushi Combo (Spicy Quartz Ramen + Aburi Salmon): -This comes with any signature ramen and any 2 pieces of sushi (extra fee for any upgrades) -I got their spicy quartz ramen, which is their creamy miso broth ramen made with your choice of chicken or pork chashu (I got pork), crispy fried garlic, seasoned egg, fried broccolini, and 2 pieces of nori. -There's LOTS of crispy fried garlic pieces in it. Every bite has a slight garlic after taste and it's nice to add a bit of crunchy texture to the ramen. -The broccolini is unique, I don't think I've ever had that with a ramen before and it's nice to have some greens too. - It's a seasoned egg, not a soft boiled egg, so don't expect that. It's not hard boiled all the way, but the flavor wasn't super strong for the egg. Not bad, but not the best. -The noodles are thicker egg noodles that had a nice chew and texture to it. However, the broth flavor wasn't that strong to me? If that makes sense. You get a good taste of creamy miso and a very slight kick, but I felt like the 2 small pieces of chashu and noodles didn't really take the flavor of the broth that well. Maybe I should have left my bowl of ramen soaking longer to get a better taste profile? Who knows. 3) Aburi Salmon (2 pieces): -I chose this with my combo and it doesn't incur an extra free. It's a seared salmon with mayo on top. -Not bad. Can never go wrong with aburi salmon. It's comparable to what you can get from Kura. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing or maybe my taste buds have been blasted by ramen spots with heavier, flavor intensive broths like Tenkaippin and Nagi. I don't mind going if someone else invites me and hopefully it's a better experience.

I have a picture of my brother eating here in middle school with us and then later on in his early 20's. Crazy time lapse, and truly shows what a favorite this place is and it's place in the community. As with all businesses in Little Tokyo, parking can suck (not as bad as K-town, but you're either paying or super circling around). Service is super efficient, welcoming and polite, as with their other locations as well. It's not the biggest restaurant, but none of the Shinsengumis I've been to have been particularly large. With this location, from my first visit, and all the subsequent visits, I always get their Hakata ramen, firmer noodles, since the longer I eat and enjoy the food, they'll soften a bit, less soup oil and less saltiness. I get all of the toppings that it comes with and I always add in a poached egg. Love the strong pork flavor since they stew their broth for so long and the tenderness of the chashu (sometimes I order more). Prices have definitely gone up and a slightly altered upgraded version of this ramen is almost $30 if you're not careful enough. Times have changed but how good this place hasn't. There's more ramen options now than there were like 10 years ago, but Shinsengumi is always a classic.

Since the pieces were large, it was slightly awkward to eat without any plates, and I was just catching the crumbs with my hand (didn't have the ramens at the time). Also got a yuzu beer to try and it was delicious, nice yuzu flavor with some tanginess. I had the shoyu with duck while my husband had the yama tonkotsu that came with fragrant black garlic oil. The tonkotsu is not one of those rich, milky, creamy ones and I personally like these lighter ones more. I also enjoyed the shoyu which had a pleasant depth of flavor, but it felt like it was relying too heavily on MSG for umami. Noodles came out chewy. Definitely not the best ramens I've had but are some of the better ones in LA. Our server was friendly, as were the rest of the staff. Service was quick. The restaurant decor feels straight out of Japan, an extra bit of fun. There's a $10 paid lot behind this block of buildings that's convenient for anything in this part of Little Tokyo.

We ordered a tonkatsu ramen and a tsukemen which had a choice of cold or hot noodles We did a hot noodle and both dishes were tasty! The tonkatau wasn't overly heavy but just enough to not be bland either which was perfect for my taste Interior was clean and service was awesome. We came on a Sunday early afternoon so we didn't have to wait. Parking is unfortunately just street parking but there's also a lot nearby if you're willing to pay. This place was also dog friendly and my small Maltese was allowed to sit with us even though there was no outdoor dining

PREMISE: I went to this location on a Wednesday evening at approximately 5PM for a party of two…read more WAIT TIME: We got seated right away! There was not anyone at the restaurant at the time, but people did start trickling in as more time elapsed. We got our food relatively quickly as well. FOOD: I ordered the spicy pork tsukemen ($23.45), which is their dipping noodle. The noodles are thicker than standard ramen, but in a good way! It comes with thick chashu (thick, fatty pork) slices and soft boiled eggs. If you haven't had tsukemen before, you essentially dip your noodles into the broth and then eat it that way. The broth is extremely flavorful and there are also pieces of chashu in it as well. The only critique that I have regarding this is the broth was lukewarm which made the dish taste slightly off. I've tried this dish at another branch and the broth was also lukewarm there, so I'm not sure if this is a location issue or a standard amongst all branches. Also, this dish does not really have any vegetables in this, but I also don't know if traditional tsukemen has veggies included. SERVICE: Service was quick and everyone was nice and doing their job. Didn't seem like the staff was slacking or messing around while there weren't many customers. They were very attentive to us, refilling our water immediately once they saw it was getting low, and being very attentive towards if we had any other concerns or if we needed anything else. PARKING: There technically is street parking but since it's in Little Tokyo, it's going to be very difficult to find it. There's $4-6 valet parking available nearby the location. There are a lot of people walking around though so just be safe. INTERIOR: It's not too big of a place but it's also not too small as well. It looks very well kept and clean. BATHROOM: Two gender neutral bathroom stalls that are both very clean and accessible. No issues here with them. TLDR: Overall, I thought the place was pretty good to eat at! I would definitely come back for the tsukemen (as long as the broth is warmed up until it's hot). A very good dish combined with great music (they have some great Japanese music variety) is definitely a spot worth coming to with friends !! :))
